Abstract

Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) images of single molecular layers of F16CoPc, nickel tetraphenylporphyrin (NiTPP), and mixtures of NiTPP with F16CoPc and of NiTPP with CoPc are presented. NiTPP/F16CoPc spontaneously forms a well-ordered 1:1 structure and NiTPP/CoPc forms a two-dimensional bimolecular solid solution.

Abstract

It has been possible to identify the orbital mediated tunneling spectroscopy (OMTS) of a compound, vanadyl phthalocyanine, in both the tunnel diode and STM environment. OMTS can be used in both environments to assess electron affinities for adlayers on metal surface.

Abstract

High resolution scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) data are presented that clearly shows the individual metallotetraphenylporphyrins (MTPP) molecules and allows easy differentiation between NiTPP and CoTPP, even when mixed monolayer structures are studied. Infrared and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy both indicate that thin films of CoTPP, NiTPP and CuTPP may be vapor deposited onto Au without chemically modifying the deposited molecule.
