What’s Up With Everyone?

- Abstract
The purpose of this review is to analyze the use of natural language processing in the research of mental disorders in adults, such as depression, anxiety, and grief. A search was conducted in four relevant databases (PubMed, IEEE, ScienceDirect, and LILACS) to identify studies published in Spanish and English from 2017 to 2022, with no restrictions on the country of origin. MeSH terms and free-text terms were used to identify research on the application of natural language processing in the detection of mental health conditions, such as anxiety, depression, and grief. In total, 136 related studies were found, of which 32 were selected for this review. An increase in the use of natural language processing in public health was observed, especially between the years 2020 and 2022. Furthermore, it was noted that social media is a frequently used source of data in these studies, and supervised machine learning models are the most common for detecting depression and anxiety. Natural language processing can enhance the detection of mental health issues in public health. While supervised learning methods are the most common, deep learning-based algorithms offer innovative perspectives, and it is expected that this technology will continue to grow to improve the detection and treatment of mental disorders. It is crucial to continue researching and developing these technologies for their application in public health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: empirical work on the use of social networks and mental health has gradually been published, so it is essential to understand it in the context of COVID-19 given the use of social networks and the mental health problems that resulted from the global pandemic. Objetive: to analyze the 91 empirical articles indexed in PubMed and WoS, which investigated the manifestations of mental health issues in social media and their relationship with COVID-19. Methodology: the study uses the literature review and includes the mental health topic analysed, objective of the article, methodology, region and country of the study, conclusions and their validity. Results: Asia and North America were the regions that published more articles. The most studied social media were Twitter (37.4%), Facebook (17.6%) and WeChat (14.3%). Twitter, Facebook or Instagram were rated positively as information tools (91%, 80% and 83.3% respectively), while WeChat and Weibo had lower percentages (45.6% and 50%). Conclusion: most articles have highlighted the positive use of social media as an information tool that helped to obtain real-time information on government plans and measures, which reduced the stress caused by the uncertainty of COVID-19.

REASONING in children , *HEALTH policy , *UNIVERSITIES & colleges , *ADULTS , *MENTAL health - Abstract
Mental health is a dynamic state, expressed in daily life through the behavior and interaction of an individual and groups, in which the available emotional, cognitive, and mental resources are deployed to live, work, interact and contribute to the society. The main objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence of the reasons for consultation of the population of the department of Quindío and the north of the department of Valle del Cauca who attended the Integral Psychology Center of a Colombian higher education institution between 2020 and 2022. The sample consisted of 404 consultants who agreed to participate in the study through informed consent. By gender, the most prevalent reasons for consultation were emotional problems in women (22.4 %), and school problems in men (22.4 %). The main reason for consultation in children is school problems (37 %) and in adolescents it is emotional problems (25.5 %). In adulthood, the most common reasons for consultation are marital relationship problems (between 6 % and 23.7 %), and bereavement (23.5 %). The findings suggest the need to plan regional prevalence studies and to carry out a judicious review of public health policies, to include other problems that may be the object of clinical attention as priority intervention.

- Abstract
Background: Common mental disorders are among the leading contributors to the burden of disease in Chile and Latin America. Gender and socioeconomic position are important social determinants of mental health. Objective: This study is aimed at determining the role of the double burden of paid job and unpaid domestic work in the association of social determinants with common mental disorders. Methods: Secondary analyses of a sample representative of the employed or recently employed Chilean population between 2009-2010. Logistic models were used to determine the association between the variables of interest and positive screen for common mental disorders. Results: Positive screen for common mental disorders was two times as frequent in women, compared to men, but the association between gender and the outcome was not observed when controlling for the double burden of paid and unpaid work. Income was associated with common mental disorders only among men. Conclusions: The distribution of the double burden of paid and unpaid work, which is more frequent among women, could contribute to the higher frequency of common mental disorders among them. It is important that social and labor public policies address this issue, to reduce the gap experienced by women with respect to paid work, and to foster co-responsibility in domestic and care tasks. Objective. To describe the characteristics and experiences of family caregivers of persons with mental disorders in a highly complex institution. Materials and methods. Mixed method, explanatory study, with an initial quantitative and then qualitative sequence. The quantitative phase was carried out using validated instruments: characterization sheet of the person with chronic illness-family caregiver dyad; the Nkongho Caregiving Ability Inventory (CAI), and the Zarit burden scale. The qualitative phase was conducted with a hermeneutic phenomenological approach; the information was collected through in-depth interviews to understand the needs of the caregivers. Results. The caregivers were mostly women, mainly mothers and daughters, home-occupied and self-employed, with basic primary education, low socioeconomic level and low caregiving skill level; a significant number of caregivers perceived some degree of overload. The themes identified in the analysis of the interviews were: feeling fear before the disease; the experience of caregiver fatigue; losing one's job: another cost of the disease; fear of delegating care; love: a support for the caregiver; needing support to care. Conclusions. The caregiver experiences a complex situation associated with the high demand for care, and conditions under which mental health impairment progresses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study shows the results of the application of a new virtual reality program, designed to raise awareness of stigma towards people with mental health problems. Specifically, the software, called Inclúyete VR, shows first a person who is suffering from hallucinations (graphically represented by “monsters”) and, later, different psychosocial rehabilitation programs that are used for the social inclusion of people with severe mental disorder. A sample of 12 psychologists who were currently taking the Master of General Health Psychology use Inclúyete VR. The results obtained showed that stigma was reduced in a statistically significant way in these professionals. Likewise, they valued with more than 8 points (on a scale of 1-10) the interest and usefulness of the program. The importance of these results and future lines of research are discussed.

- Abstract
People vulnerable to mental health problems during the COVID-19 outbreak include hospitalized patients and frontline health professionals; mostly reported discomforts include: insomnia, anxiety and depression. Under strict infection measures, non-essential personnel such as clinical psychiatrists and psychologists are strongly discouraged from entering isolation wards; therefore, frontline healthcare workers become the main personnel providing psychological interventions to patients in hospitals without knowing how to mitigate patient distress. Health personnel do not receive adequate care for due to lack of time, stigma associated with using mental health services and fear of unwanted intervention. Remote care tools such as tele-psychiatry and online psychological intervention have disadvantages for conditions requiring physical examination. The National Health Commission of China released guiding principles to reduce the psychosocial effects of the COVID-19 outbreak recommending the creation of mental health teams. In this article we present the data obtained by a mental health team in a COVID-19 hospital of the Mexican Institute of Social Security, showing differences in emotional discomfort and diagnoses of mental disorders in patients in isolation and in frontline health personnel, suggesting the need for teams made up of psychiatry and psychology staff with face-to-face on site assessments.

- Abstract
The literature has studied the effects of previous epidemics on the mental health of the population. In the context of the current COVID-19 pandemic, it is of interest to study what has been published regarding this issue, considering that unlike recent epidemics, the current one has occurred worldwide, with higher numbers of contagion and mortality, with periods of longer social restrictions, altering various dimensions in the life of the population. The different implications of the COVID-19 pandemic with mental health and psychiatric diseases were collected in a general form, using the literature published in PubMed during the first months of the pandemic. The literature shows that the current pandemic has negatively influenced various dimensions of mental health in the general and specific population. Other implications reviewed are: alcohol and drugs, grief, patients with previous mental disorders, social networks, mental health services, telepsychiatry, among others. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Identifying in Brazilian and international scientific literature, the mental health repercussions caused by the new coronavirus (COVID 19) in nurses working on the front line of healthcare systems since the pandemic outbreak in Wuhan. Methods: An integrative literature revision was made in April 2020 into the following databases: Virtual Health Library, Brazil (BVS); Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), USA; Scopus, and CINAHL. Results: Nine papers were included in the final sample; they highlighted the scarcity of material resources in the hospitals and the prevalence of higher levels of mental health suffering in the nurses compared to the other professional workers on the frontline. Conclusion: It is evident that the mental health of nurses handling the Covid-19 pandemic is a topic that needs more attention not only from researchers but also from health managers and other authorities in charge of health policies.

Objective: to describe the experiences of members of families that have children with mental disorders. Method: qualitative research, with the hybrid oral thematic history method carried out with eight family members in a Specialized Educational Service Center. Data were collected from March to May 2017, via semi-structured interviews. Results: two categories emerged: Emotions, feelings and difficulties experienced by family members of children with mental disorders; and, Support for family, social and health support for children with mental disorders. The family reported tiredness, exhaustion, guilt and insecurity, revealing important changes in the family dynamics following the diagnosis of mental disorder. Final considerations: family members lack information about mental disorders; need to adapt the family routine to attend to the child; and require support from family, friends, teachers and other professionals so that they can take care of their child. Aim: to analyze the structure, bonds and support network of a family that lives with a person with mental disorder through the construction of the genogram and ecomap. Method: a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive study, conducted with two people from a family living with a person with mental disorder, in a hospital located in Rio Grande do Sul. A semi-structured interview guided by the Guide for Evaluation and Family Intervention was used. The analysis consisted of the construction of the genogram and ecomap, with the aid of genealogy software. Results: family bonds are weak. The support network is centered on emergency, outpatient and inpatient services; there is a precariousness of substitute services and places for social reintegration. Conclusion: the implementation of the genogram and ecomap in care for people with mental disorders are tools that help in the planning of care and interventions in the family context.
