Introduction: Indonesia is a multi-linguistic country using the official language of Bahasa Indonesia. It is important to use formal language to collect research data without misinterpretation of study outcome and intervention effect with high accuracy. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze whether the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) instrument translated into the Indonesian version was reliable and valid for measuring depression in floods-affected communities. Methods: The forward-backward translation was used to translate the BDI-II from English to Indonesian version. We tested the reliability and validity including content and construct validity through exploratory factor analysis (EFA) with varimax rotation and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). We recruited 107 annual flood survivors in West Java, Indonesia as participants to test the psychometric testing. Results: The structures shown by the EFA are two factors, with Factor 1 representing negative cognitive-attitude domains and somatic symptom items consisting of Factor 2. The CFA concludes that the general factor model best fits the data on the basis Goodness-of-Fit Index (GFI)= 0.8; Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA)= 0.09; Standard Root-Mean-Square Residual (SRMSR)); Comparative Fit Index (CFI)= 0.81; Tucker–Lewis Index (TLI)= 0.79; and p-value χ2 = < 0.01, χ2/df: 1.82). Conclusions: The results showed that the BDI-II Indonesian version has good reliability and validity and can be used to measure depression status among people who suffer floods in community setting. Future studies need to be validated within multiple socio-cultural groups.

Background: Depression is a significant predictor of the quality of life among patients with coronary heart disease. Therefore, it is essential to explore the factors associated with depression. Illness cognition is considered one of the factors affecting depression. However, the relationship between illness cognition and the incidence of depression among Indonesian patients have not been widely investigated. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the correlation between illness cognition, consisting of the acceptance, perceived benefits, and helplessness variables, and depression in patients with coronary heart disease. Methods: This study employed a correlational research design with a total of 106 patients undergoing treatment at a hospital in West Java, Indonesia, selected using convenience sampling. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire, Beck-Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), and ICQ (Illness-Cognition Questionnaire). Data were analyzed using mean (SD), median, frequency distribution, and Spearman-rank. Results: 72% of respondents had no depression. Nevertheless, mild, moderate, and major depression suffered by 15%, 9%, and 4% of respondents, respectively. In terms of illness cognition, patients scored higher within the perceived benefits dimension (mean 20.13, SD 3.05), followed by acceptance (mean 18.22, SD 3.33) and helplessness (mean 13.20, SD 4.77), respectively. Background: Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) has a high recurrence in Indonesia. This condition may occur as a result of the failure of compliance with post-acute management following a heart attack by CHD patients. One of the causes is the lack of effective health education. Objective: The aim of this study was to identify the feasibility of the workbook in improving patients’ self-efficacy (SE) and quality of life (QoL). Methods: This research used a quasi-experimental with pretest-posttest control design. A pretest was done to the patients who were treated in the cardiac intensive unit, and a posttest was carried out at the end of the first and second month after the pretest. The population was all post-acute CHD patients who were admitted to the cardiac intensive unit in one of the referral hospitals in West Java, Indonesia. A purposive sampling was used and obtained 39 respondents who were divided into control and intervention groups. The intervention group was given a health education using a workbook, and the control group was given a direct health education. Self-efficacy was measured using a questionnaire developed by the authors, with high validity and reliability. A SF-12 instrument was used for measuring the quality of life. Data were analyzed using a descriptive quantitative analysis such as mean, Mann Whitney test, and Independent t-test. To estimate the effects of the intervention to QoL and SE, Kruskal Wallis test and One-way ANOVA were used. Results: The results showed that there was an increase in SE and QoL in both groups, either in the posttest 1 or posttest 2. The comparison of QoL in the pretest, posttest I and II obtained p=.452, .741, and .826, while SE between and within groups obtained p = .732, .220, and .009, respectively. Conclusions: Health education using the workbook was significantly more effective to increase SE than QoL of the CHD patients.

Depression has been related to poor quality of life and recurrence in CHD patients. It is important to explore factors associated with the depression to prevent problems and to assist with appropriate intervention. Furthermore, the determinants of depression in CHD patients in Indonesia are still unknown. This study aimed to identify the determinants of depression in CHD patients in Indonesia. This study was a quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach. Samples were recruited from outpatient care in a referral hospital in Bandung using a consecutive sampling technique for a-2 month period (n=101). Data were collected using a questionnaire package consisting of a demographic questionnaire, Beck Depression Index [BDI] (II), Zung Self-rating Anxiety Scale, Seattle Angina Questionnaire, and Spirituality Index of Well-Being. Background: Caring is the essence of nursing that is believed vital in improving the health and well-being of patients and in facilitating health promotion. Nursing education has a fundamental role in shaping a positive student’s caring behavior. Objective: This study identified the caring behavior of the final-year nursing students after completing a critical care nursing course unit by implementing assorted teaching-learning strategies. Methods: This study was a descriptive research using a comparative design. Samples were recruited from a group of 152 final-year students using a random sampling technique (n=76). Data were collected using a valid and reliable Indonesian caring instrument consisting of 32 items based on Watson’s ten carative factors. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics by calculating mean scores of students’ caring behavior. A paired t test was performed to evaluate the difference between caring behavior before and after completion of the course unit involving a diverse teaching learning strategies, such as face-to-face lectures in the class, quizzes and practicums, facilitated small group case-based discussions, and expert reviews. Results: Results showed that more than half of the students had negative caring behavior before (59.22%) and after (54.55%) participating in learning process. There was also a barely statistical unsignificance in the change of caring behavior following the course unit that involved various learning strategies (p value = 0.276). HIV-associated with neurocognitive disorder (HAND) is a major interest issues worldwide, as results from introduction of Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) and increasing life expectancy. However, previous studies have been limited by lack of a guiding framework. The purpose of this review was to provide a conceptual framework to guide studies of neurocognitive impairment in patients with HIV/AIDS. A literature search was conducted of articles published from 1998 through December 2015 using the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library and Ebscohost databases on evaluating the problem of neurocognitive impairment in HIV. This search resulted in a total of 36 articles. Evidence has indicated that there are neurobiological changes and brain abnormalities among people living with HIV/AID, which may affect cognitive functioning. Being infected by HIV and increased age are independently factors on HAND. However, there is remaining unclear the effect of HAART, is protective factors or risk factors of HAND and its consequence on quality of life among patients with HIV/AIDS. Considering the major issues in above, patient with HIV/AIDS is vulnerable population for developing HAND that might have been resulted to under report. Future studies focusses on exploring HAND is necessary especially from low income countries where the accessibility to HAART are limited.

Background: Anxiety and depression are problems faced by patients with chronic diseases such as patients with Coronary Heart Disease (CHD). Both of these can also worsen the condition of CHD patients, thus needs to be prevented and handled. It is stated that spirituality can enhance constructive coping skills in patients with chronic diseases. But how it relates to anxiety and depression in patients with CHD in Indonesia was still unknown. Objective: The study purpose was to identify the relationship of spiritual wellbeing with the incidence of anxiety and depression in CHD patients. Methods: The research used descriptive correlative quantitative with cross sectional approach. The instruments used to measure the variabels were Zung Self-rating Anxiety Scale, Beck Depression Inventory II, and Spirituality Index of Well-Being scale. Data were taken on 100 respondents within 3 months in outpatient cardiac unit with the consecutive sampling technique and analyzed by spearman correlation test. Results: The results showed mean of the anxiety; depression; and spiritual well-being respectively were 47.66; 43; and 60. Based on spearman test, spiritual wellbeing correlated with anxiety significantly p= 0.000(r=-0.371) and so was depression p= 0.000 (r=-0.571). Conclusions: There was a significant relationship between spiritual well-being with anxiety and depression with a negative correlation direction. The higher the spiritual well-being will be the lower the level of anxiety and depression. Thus nurses need to strengthen the spiritual aspects of CHD patients to prevent psychosocial problems.

Prevalensi Penyakit Jantung Koroner (PJK) terus mengalami peningkatan setiap tahunnya dan menjadi masalah kesehatan utama di masyarakat saat ini. PJK berdampak terhadap berbagai aspek kehidupan penderitanya baik fisik, psikososial maupun spiritual yang berpengaruh terhadap kualitas hidup pasien. Isu kualitas hidup dan faktor-faktor yang berhubungan didalamnya belum tergambar jelas di Indonesia. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi faktor yang memengaruhi kualitas hidup pada pasien PJK yang sedang menjalani rawat jalan. Faktor-faktor yang diteliti dalam penelitian ini meliputi jenis kelamin, tingkat penghasilan, revaskularisasi jantung, rehabilitasi jantung, kecemasan, depresi dan kesejahteraan spiritual. Kecemasan diukur dengan Zung Self-rating Anxiety Scale, depresi diukur dengan Beck Depression Inventory II, kesejahteraan spiritual diukur dengan kuesioner Spirituality Index of Well-Beingdan kualitas hidup diukur menggunakan Seattle Angina Questionnaire. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan kuantitatif deskriptif dan analitik multivariatedengan regresi logistic. Diteliti pada 100 responden yang diambil secara randomdalam kurun waktu 1 bulan di Poli Jantung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan faktor yang memengaruhi kualitas hidup pada pasien PJK adalah cemas (p) 0,002; Odd Ratio(OR) 4,736 (95% confidence interval(CI), 1,749 – 12,827); depresi (p) 0,003; OR 5,450 ( 95% CI, 1,794 – 16,562); dan revaskularisasi (p) 0,033; OR 3,232 (95% CI, 1,096 – 9,528). Depresi menjadi faktor yang paling berpengaruh terhadap kualitas hidup pasien PJK. Faktor yang memengaruhi kualitas hidup pada pasien PJK meliputi depresi, cemas dan revaskularisasi. Dari ketiga variabel tersebut depresi merupakan variabel yang paling signifikan berpengaruh, sehingga manajemen untuk mencegah depresi perlu mendapatkan perhatian lebih baik lagi dalam discharge planningataupun rehabilitasi jantung.

Penurunan kesadaran pada pasien cedera kepala berat akan menimbulkan risiko gangguan jalan napas sehingga perlu dilakukan intubasi endotrakeal untuk mempertahankan perfusi otak. Suctioning diperlukan untuk mempertahankan oksigenasi tetapi dapat menimbulkan penurunan saturasi oskigen, peningkatan TIK dan trauma jalan nafas. Tekanan suction yang tepat sangat diperlukan untuk mengatasi penurunan saturasi oksigen pada klien cedera kepala berat. Penelitian Quasi experiment ini bertujuan mengetahui perbedaan saturasi oksigen pada pasien cedera kepala setelah dilakukan suctioning pada tekanan 100 mmHg, 120 mmHg dan 150 mmHg. Desain penelitian menggunakan one group pre test and post test without control, yang dilakukan pengukuran berulang. Hasil penelitian didapatkan semakin tinggi penggunaan tekanan suction maka akan semakin terjadi penurunan saturasi oksigen. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan menjadi panduan dalam melakukan suction pada pasien cedera kepala berat dengan memerhatikan saturasi oksigen.

Karekteristik pasien diabetes melitus (DM) tipe 2 yang dapat memengaruhi kualitas hidupnya meliputi umur, jenis kelamin, tingkat pendidikan, sosial ekonomi, lama menderita DM, dan status pernikahan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui gambaran kualitas hidup berdasarkan karekteristik pasien DM tipe 2. Penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif ini melibatkan 89 responden yang diambil menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan kuesioner karekteristik responden dan Quality of Life Instrument for Indian Diabetes Patients (QOLID)yang terdiri dari 34 pertanyaan. Data yang terkumpul dikategorikan menjadi kualitas hidup tinggi/rendah berdasarkan nilai mean. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kualitas hidup (QoL) pasien DM tipe 2 secara keseluruhan adalah tinggi (56,18%). Berdasarkan umur, QoL tinggi terbesar adalah lansia (65,9%) dan QoL rendah terbesar adalah dewasa madya (53,84%). Jenis kelamin, QoL tinggi terbesar adalah laki-laki (58,97%) dan QoL rendah terbesar adalah perempuan (46%). Tingkat pendidikan, QoL tinggi terbesar berada pada perguruan tinggi (78,26%) dan QoL rendah terbesar berada pada SD (65%). Berdasarkan sosial ekonomi, QoL tinggi terbesar adalah penghasilan lebih dari >5 juta (87,5%) dan QoL rendah terbesar adalah 10 tahun (66,67%) dan QoL rendah terbesar adalah < 1 tahun (53,33%). Berdasarkan status pernikahan QoL tinggi terbesar adalah menikah (56,16%) dan QoL rendah terbesar adalah janda/duda (46,67%).
