This thesis deals with alternative forms of education, particularly with home education and community learning and development. The first part of the thesis defines the key terms and deals with contemporary theories of upbringing. The thesis also deals with the philosophical point of view of child's upbringing and tries to pin down the principle of upbringing. Furthermore it describes a family as a medium of child's upbringing and describes its functions. In the same way a school as an institution and its function in child's upbringing are described. The thesis discusses primary education. The second part of thesis is dedicated to alternative forms of education, mainly the individual education. The thesis explains the term individual education and describes the home and community learning and development in the Czech Republic and throughout the world. Furthermore the thesis brings up advantages and disadvantages of such forms of education. The last part deals with the children's socialization within families, which bring them up at home.

The thesis discusses the Chinese community in the Czech Republic and focusses in detail on the social factors influencing their lives and integration into Czech society. The thesis determines the composition of the Chinese community, its way of life, values, family factors, the relationship with the majority society and the degree of integration. The thesis is trying to familiarize the reader with the Chinese minority and help towards a better understanding. The aim of the research is to obtain more detailed information and specific examples for each of the themes from the Chinese, long living in the Czech Republic.

The thesis draws attention to the mentally disordered healthcare with the diagnosis of schizophrenia. It describes basic social services, with a focus on legislation and social workers' competencies and code of ethics. It deals with the methods of social services regarding schizophrenic patients. It defines the reasons for inception of schizophrenia and possibilities for patients' reintegration into the society. It deals with the concept of schizophrenia, examines the types of schizophrenia and possible treatments. In addition, it points out the importance of social workers involvement while working with mentally disordered people. Due to the fact that schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder, I decided to work as an intern in the therapeutic community Mýto. Based on my experience, I attempted a deeper analysis of this therapeutic residence.

This dissertation deals with the position of foster-mother in SOS children's villages. The first part focuses on the legislative background of the operation of these facilities for foster care in the context of the development organization SOS Children's Villages in the Czech Republic and the international organization SOS Kinderdorf International. It discusses the problem of Czech SOS Children's Villages, when foster-mother is responsible for the child entrusted to foster care, which is the difference from the Czech villages than villages in the other countries. The second part analyzes the role of the SOS foster-mother. It offers a reflection on the meaning of the concept of the archetypal mother and changes of maternal role. The dissertation maps a question of motivation and readiness for fostering.Step by step are described SOS foster-mothers's career stages and are development cycles of SOS families. The work deals with the controversial topic, such as support for an SOS foster-mother. It introduces the concept of an integrated following educational community youth, boarding facilities for teenagers and young adults from the SOS villages. Abtract Title: The role of social worker at an elementary school Name of student: Bc.Helena Valentova Department of study: Social Policy and Social Work Thesis supervisor: Doc. PhDr. Oldřich Matoušek, CSc. Opponent work: Martin Malotová The thesis is focused on the role of social worker at an elementary school. It is a comprehensive characterization of the profession including history, descriptions school of social work in several national systems of education (for example USA, England, Finland, etc.), analysis of target groups and content of school social work, which is supplemented by examples from practice. The empirical part of the work aims to determine whether the elementary schools in Praque are interested in introduction of position of school social worker and reasons of introduction. Other aims are to map the situation in solving educational problems at Prague's elementary schools, the views of the respondents to content of the activity school social worker and his authorization and also to map out how many of Prague's elementary schools have already established. The respondents were directors of the elementary schools, educational consultants and experts in prevention. This Bachelor Thesis deals with free time activities of families with small children. The theoretical part describes a community as a place providing the possibility of spending free time. Then I describe free time as a value from many different standpoints. The last chapter of the theoretical part is the characteristic features of the community centre and the descrtiption ot its activities. The practical part deals with the research work whether families spend their free time in the community centre or they fill their free time with own activities. The result of the research ( in the town of Tábor and its surroundings) shows that the majority of the families has experience with the community centre and that the first contact with the centre is in the antenatal courses. Whereas swimming with children does not mean the entrance to the community. The parents organize swimming themselves.
