1. Association of vitamin D receptor gene polymorphisms with risk of cutaneous melanoma. A meta-analysis based on 40 case-control studies.

Introduction. Previous studies on the association of vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphisms with cutaneous melanoma risk reported conflicting results. Objective. To obtain a more precise assessment of the associations, we performed a meta-analysis of previously published studies. Material and methods. We searched for eligible studies in the PubMed, Embase, and CNKI databases. A total of 40 case-control studies with 1,144 cases and 2,925 controls were included. Results. The pooled analyses suggested a significant association between the FokI C>T and BsmI G>A polymorphisms of the VDR gene and susceptibility to melanoma. However, we found that the VDR TaqI T>C, EcoRV A>G, ApaI G>T, and Cdx2 G>A polymorphisms were not associated with melanoma risk. Conclusions. The meta-analysis suggests that VDR FokI C>T and BsmI G>A polymorphisms are significantly associated with melanoma risk, while TaqI T>C, EcoRV A>G, ApaI G>T, and Cdx2 G>A polymorphisms are not associated with melanoma risk.
