This article traces the development of synthetic routes toward 1-indanones containing a β-quaternary carbon center. The recent advancement in the regio- and chemoselective formal (4+1) carbocyclization of chalcones with internal alkynes via rhodium(III) catalysis for the synthesis of 1-indanones is highlighted. A rhodium(III)‐catalyzed oxidative cyclization of chalcones with internal alkynes is reported, generating biologically important 3,3‐disubstituted 1‐indanones along with reusable aromatic aldehydes. This transformation features unique (4+1) reaction mode, excellent regioselectivity in alkyne insertion, broad substrate scope, allows for the construction of quaternary carbon centers, and is scalable. Steric hindrance from substrate and ligand probably controls the chemoselectivity of this carbocyclization. Importantly, this discovery enables a practical two‐step protocol switching the overall reaction of acetophenones with internal alkynes from a (3+2) to a (4+1) annulation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A copper-catalyzed approach for the synthesis of acridones via C–C bond cleavage and intramolecular cyclization using air as the oxidant under neutral conditions is described. Abstract: 3,4-Dihydroquinolin-2-ones are of great importance in the areas of pharmaceuticals. However, the direct intramolecular radical cyclizations of the corresponding amide compounds favor 5-exo products 2. Reports on the radical cyclization reactions producing 3,4-dihydroquinolin-2-one derivatives are limited. Herein, an efficient tandem reaction combining radical and ionic processes was developed, which provides a practical synthetic strategy for the synthesis of substituted 3,4-dihydroquinolin-2-ones from simple and readily available precursors under neutral reaction conditions. The article presents information on organic compound 2,6-Dibenzhydryl-8b,8c-diphenyl-2,3,5,6,8b,8c- hexahydro-2,3a,4a,6,7a,8a-hexaaza-1H,4H-cyclopenta[def]fluorene-4,8-dione. This compound contains four fused rings, viz two nearly planar imidazole rings and two non-planar triazine rings. The triazine rings each have a chair conformation. This compound has been used for various purposes including explosives, slow-release fertilizers, cross-linkers, iodogens, stabilizers of organic compounds against photodegradation and as reagents in combinatorial chemistry.

The title compound, C21H23IN4O8, is a glycoluril derivative with five fused rings. An iodo­benzene ring is fused to a seven-membered ring which binds two of the N atoms from separate rings of the glycoluril system. The other N atoms are linked via methyl­ene groups to form an eight-membered ring with two ether O atoms separated by an additional methyl­ene group. 2-Aryl benzothiazole formation from aryl ketones and 2-aminobenzenethiols under metal- and I2-free conditions was described. Various 2-aryl benzothiazoles were selectively obtained in good yields using molecular oxygen as oxidant. DMSO played an important role in this transformation. Functional groups such as methyl, methoxy, fluoro, chloro, bromo and nitro groups were tolerated under the optimized reaction conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
