A metal-free electrochemical oxidative difluoroethylation of 2-arylbenzimidazoles was accomplished, which provided an efficient strategy for the synthesis of MeCF2-containing benzo[4,5]imidazo[2,1-a]-isoquinolin-6(5H)-ones. In addition, the method also enabled the efficient construction of various difluoroethylated indolo[2,1-a]isoquinolin-6(5H)-ones. Notably, this electrochemical synthesis protocol proceeded well under mild conditions without metal catalysts or exogenous additives/oxidants added. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Here we report a simple and efficient method for the preparation of CF2H‐substituted pyrido[4,3,2‐gh]phenanthridines under photoredox conditions. The reactions are triggered by addition of a CF2H radical to a carbon–carbon double bond to form three different types of bonds via a cascade radical difluoromethylation/cyano insertion/cyclization. This difluoromethylated transformation exhibits good functional group compatibility, leading to the construction of the desired ring‐fused phenanthridine derivatives in moderate to excellent yields. A radical nitrohalogenation/cyclization of various enynes with tert -butyl nitrite has been developed that conveniently introduces useful nitro and halo groups into organic compounds. The visible‐light‐promoted difluoromethylation and trifluoromethylation/cyclization of β, γ‐unsaturated oximes has been successfully accomplished with fluorinated sulfones as the difluoromethylation and trifluoromethylation reagents. The reaction was proposed to proceed through a sequence comprising CF2X‐radical generation, fluoromethyl radical addition, single electron oxidation, and intramolecular cyclization to afford the corresponding di and trifluoromethylated isoxazoline derivatives in an overall redox‐neutral process.
