Objectives: To develop and validate a nomogram for predicting ≥ 3 metastatic axillary lymph nodes (ALNs) in early breast cancer with no palpable axillary adenopathy by clinicopathologic data, contrast-enhanced (CE) lymphatic ultrasound (US), and grayscale findings of sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs). Materials and methods: Women with T1-2N0 invasive breast cancer were consecutively recruited for the CE lymphatic US. Patients from Center 1 were grouped into development and internal validation cohorts at a ratio of 2:1. The external validation cohort was constructed from Center 2. The clinicopathologic data and US findings of SLNs were analyzed. A nomogram was developed to predict women with ≥ 3 metastatic ALNs. Nomogram performance was assessed with the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and calibration curve analysis. Results: One hundred seventy-nine from Center 1 were considered the development cohorts. The remaining 90 participants from Center 1 were internal cohorts and 197 participants from Center 2 were external validation cohorts. The US findings of no enhancement (odds ratio (OR), 15.3; p = 0.01), diffuse (OR, 19.1; p = 0.01) or focal eccentric (OR, 27.7; p = 0.003) cortical thickening, and absent hilum (OR, 169.7; p < 0.001) were independently associated with ≥ 3 metastatic ALNs. Compared to grayscale US or CE lymphatic US alone, the nomogram showed the highest AUC of 0.88 (0.85, 0.91). The nomogram showed a calibration slope of 1.0 (p = 0.80–0.81; Brier = 0.066–0.067) in validation cohorts in predicting ≥ 3 metastatic ALNs. Conclusion: Patients likely to have ≥ 3 metastatic ALNs were identified by combining the lymphatic and grayscale US findings of SLNs. In this study, we studied the performance of the 2022 American College of Rheumatology (ACR)/ European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR) classification criteria for Takayasu's arteritis (TAK) as compared to the 1990 ACR classification criteria in a Chinese population. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, accuracy and the area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUC) of the above two criteria were compared. The sensitivity (92.6%), positive predictive value (95.6%), negative predictive value (94.6%), accuracy (95.0%) and AUC (0.981) of the 2022 criteria were superior to those of the 1990 criteria (45.7%, 91.5%, 70.5%, 75.0% and 0.874, respectively), and the difference of AUC was statistically significant (Z = 5.362, P < 0.001). In addition, we included new imaging modalities in the 1990 criteria, whose sensitivity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, accuracy and AUC were significantly improved, but still lower than those of the 2022 criteria, the difference in AUC was also statistically significant (Z = 2.023, P = 0.043). The 2022 criteria for TAK exhibited superior performance compared with the 1990 criteria and may be more appropriate for the Chinese population. Background: Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MP-MRI) has high sensitivity for diagnosing breast cancers but cannot always be used as a routine diagnostic tool. The present study aimed to evaluate whether the diagnostic performance of perfluorobutane (PFB) contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is similar to that of MP-MRI in breast cancer and whether combining the two methods would enhance diagnostic efficiency. Patients and methods: This was a head-to-head, prospective, multicenter study. Patients with breast lesions diagnosed by US as Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) categories 3, 4, and 5 underwent both PFB-CEUS and MP-MRI scans. On-site operators and three reviewers categorized the BI-RADS of all lesions on two images. Logistic-bootstrap 1000-sample analysis and cross-validation were used to construct PFB-CEUS, MP-MRI, and hybrid (PFB-CEUS + MP-MRI) models to distinguish breast lesions. Results: In total, 179 women with 186 breast lesions were evaluated from 17 centers in China. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) for the PFB-CEUS model to diagnose breast cancer (0.89; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.74, 0.97) was similar to that of the MP-MRI model (0.89; 95% CI 0.73, 0.97) (P = 0.85). The AUC of the hybrid model (0.92, 95% CI 0.77, 0.98) did not show a statistical advantage over the PFB-CEUS and MP-MRI models (P = 0.29 and 0.40, respectively). However, 90.3% false-positive and 66.7% false-negative results of PFB-CEUS radiologists and 90.5% false-positive and 42.8% false-negative results of MP-MRI radiologists could be corrected by the hybrid model. Three dynamic nomograms of PFB-CEUS, MP-MRI and hybrid models to diagnose breast cancer are freely available online. Conclusions: PFB-CEUS can be used in the differential diagnosis of breast cancer with comparable performance to MP-MRI and with less time consumption. Purpose: To validate the feasibility of S-Detect, an ultrasound computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system using deep learning, in enhancing the diagnostic performance of breast ultrasound (US) for patients with opportunistic screening-detected breast lesions. Methods: Nine medical centers throughout China participated in this prospective study. Asymptomatic patients with US-detected breast masses were enrolled and received conventional US, S-Detect, and strain elastography subsequently. The final pathological results are referred to as the gold standard for classifying breast mass. The diagnostic performances of the three methods and the combination of S-Detect and elastography were evaluated and compared, including sensitivity, specificity, and area under the receiver operating characteristics (AUC) curve. We also compared the diagnostic performances of S-Detect among different study sites. Results: A total of 757 patients were enrolled, including 460 benign and 297 malignant cases. S-Detect exhibited significantly higher AUC and specificity than conventional US (AUC, S-Detect 0.83 [0.80–0.85] vs. US 0.74 [0.70–0.77], p < 0.0001; specificity, S-Detect 74.35% [70.10%–78.28%] vs. US 54.13% [51.42%–60.29%], p < 0.0001), with no decrease in sensitivity. In comparison to that of S-Detect alone, the AUC value significantly was enhanced after combining elastography and S-Detect (0.87 [0.84–0.90]), without compromising specificity (73.93% [68.60%–78.78%]). Significant differences in the S-Detect's performance were also observed across different study sites (AUC of S-Detect in Groups 1–4: 0.89 [0.84–0.93], 0.84 [0.77–0.89], 0.85 [0.76–0.92], 0.75 [0.69–0.80]; p [1 vs. 4] < 0.0001, p [2 vs. 4] = 0.0165, p [3 vs. 4] = 0.0157). Conclusions: Compared with the conventional US, S-Detect presented higher overall accuracy and specificity. Objective: To assess the diagnostic value of transrectal shear wave elastography (SWE) for detecting prostate cancer (PCa) in peripheral zone and compare it with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Materials and Methods: Two hundred twenty-one patients suspected of PCa were enrolled, in which 172 patients of them underwent both SWE and MRI. Elastic value was measured in the area prepared for systematic biopsy and suspicious lesion detected on B-mode or SWE, histopathological result was compared for each biopsy. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), and accuracy were derived by obtaining optimal threshold from receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. The correlation between the stiffness of PCa and Gleason scores, prognostic grades, and percentage of cancer in biopsy were evaluated by Spearman rank correlation. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to determine predictors for diagnosing PCa. The diagnostic capacity of MRI and SWE for detecting PCa and clinically significant PCa in the peripheral zone were assessed by comparing area under curve of ROC curve. Results: A value of 42 kPa was used as the cutoff for differentiating benign from malignant prostatic tissue; the sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV, and accuracy were 78.97%, 90.67%, 71.30%, 93.66% and 88.03%, respectively. Rank correlation analysis revealed that the stiffness of PCa had a correlation with Gleason score, prognostic grade, and percentage of cancer in biopsy. On multivariate analysis, the age, free prostate-specific antigen (PSA), PSA density, SWE, and MRI were independent predictors for diagnosing PCa. There was no statistical difference for diagnosing PCa between SWE and MRI (p = 0.259). However, for clinically significant PCa, the diagnostic capacity of SWE was a little higher than MRI (p = 0.013). Conclusions: SWE may provide additional information for PCa detection, which could increase the positive rate of PCa in targeted biopsy and reduce unnecessary biopsy. We investigated the diagnostic performance of qualitative and quantitative ultrasound criteria for anterosuperior acetabular labral tears (ALTs). In all, 118 people with ALTs (120 hips; case group) and 31 asymptomatic volunteers (42 hips; control group) at Peking University Third Hospital between August 2018 and November 2019 were consecutively included. The labral cleft, labral heterogeneous echogenicity, labral plump morphology, paralabral cyst and labral focal hyperechoic area were used as the qualitative criteria. The anterosuperior labral cross-section area (CSA) was measured as the quantitative criterion. The diagnostic utility of the quantitative and qualitative criteria were explored with magnetic resonance imaging as the diagnostic gold standard. Labral heterogeneous echogenicity was the most sensitive criterion for diagnosing ALTs (up to 80.00%), and the specificity of diagnosing ALTs with paralabral cysts, labral focal hyperechoic area and subcortical cysts of the femoral head and neck was as high as 90.48%-100%. The labral CSA in the case group was 0.27 cm2 (0.21-0.39 cm2), which was significantly larger compared with the control group (0.18 cm2 [0.14-0.23 cm2]; p < 0.001). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.802 for diagnosing ALTs according to the labral CSA. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and diagnostic accuracy of the combined qualitative criteria for diagnosing ALTs were 90.00%, 71.43%, 90.00%, 71.43% and 85.19%, respectively. Labral heterogeneous echogenicity is a sensitive criterion for diagnosing ALTs, and paralabral cysts, labral focal hyperechoic, area and subcortical cysts of the femoral head and neck are specific criteria. The CSA of the anterosuperior acetabular labrum measured by ultrasound can be used as a quantitative criterion to diagnose ALTs. Subspine impingement (SSI) has been increasingly recognized as a source of hip pain and a cause of failed femoroacetabular impingement treatment as a kind of extra-articular hip impingement. However, ultrasound findings of SSI have not been extensively explored and validated. To determine the ultrasound imaging manifestations associated with SSI, including the osseous and soft-tissue injuries adjacent to anterior inferior iliac spine (AIIS) and to investigate the diagnostic value of ultrasound for SSI. Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI) patients who underwent arthroscopic treatment were retrospectively evaluated. All the FAI patients were divided into the SSI group and non-SSI group according to the clinical diagnosis. The preoperative ultrasound and CT findings were assessed. The sensitivity, specificity, and positive predictive value of indicators were calculated and compared. Receiver operating characteristic curve were also used. The bone morphology type III, heterogeneous hypoecho in anterosuperior joint capsule and the direct head of rectus femoris (dRF) tendon adjacent to AIIS on the Standard Section of dRF in ultrasound were associated with SSI. The AUC of the ultrasound composite indicators was 0.750. The AUC and PPV of CT low-lying AIIS for the SSI diagnosis was 0.733 and 71.7%, which could be improved when CT was combined with the ultrasound composite indicators with AUC=0.831 and PPV=85.7%. Bone morphology abnormalities and soft-tissue injuries adjacent to the AIIS through sonographic evaluation were associated with SSI. Ultrasound could be used as a feasible method to predict SSI.
