The radionuclide zirconium-89 can be employed for the positron emission tomography (PET). In this study 89 Zr excitation function via 89 Y(p,n) 89 Zr reaction was calculated by the TALYS-1.8 code based on microscopic level density model. The formation of 89 Zr was simulated using the Monte Carlo simulation code MCNPX to calculate the integral yield in the 89 Y target body for threshold up to 40 MeV incident-proton energy. The target thickness was based on calculation of the stopping power using the SRIM-2013 code matched to any incident-proton energy. The production yield of the 89 Zr simulated with the Monte Carlo method for the 89 Y(p,n) 89 Zr, 89 Y(d,2n) 89 Zr, nat Sr(α,xn) 89 Zr and nat Zr(p,pxn) 89 Zr reactions and the results were in good agreement with published experimental results for the optimum energy range. An experimental yield of 53.1 MB/µA for the 15 MeV proton-induced on Y 2 O 3 powder as a disk-target obtained for 1 h irradiation at the AMIRS cyclotron. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The 89 Zr, is one of the radionuclide with near-ideal properties for PET due to its suitable half-life and decay properties. The cross-section of 89 Zr via 89 Y(p,n) 89 Zr, 89 Y(d,2n) 89 Zr, nat Sr(α,xn) 89 Zr and nat Zr(p,pxn) 89 Zr, were calculated by the TALYS-1.8 code to predict the optimum range of charge particle energy. The Monte Carlo code GEANT4 was used to simulate the formation of 89 Zr in the target body. The simulated 89 Zr yield was in good agreement with published experimental results in the optimum energy range. Production of scandium-47 as a therapeutic radionuclide and mighty in single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) technique has been investigated in this paper. The excitation function of 48 , 49 , 50 , nat Ti(p,x) leading to the formation of 47Sc were computed using the TALYS-1.9 code to recommend the suitable energy range. Monte Carlo simulation code MCNPX was employed to estimate the integral yield based on the medium cyclotron. The target thickness was calculated using the SRIM code. A developed targetry system was designed and manufactured. An experimental yield for the formation of 47Sc was obtained on about 4.25 MBq/(μ A h) by the proton interaction on nat Ti-foil at 5 μ Ah total current beam. The Liquid–Liquid Extraction (LLX) method was employed for the separation of radiochemical impurities. Quality control was performed by γ -ray spectrometry.
