Background: Anticipatory grief is common among family caregivers of cancer patients and may be related to caregiver burden, family resilience, psychological capital, cognitive appraisal, and coping strategies. The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating role of cognitive appraisal and coping strategies in the relationship between caregiver burden, family resilience, psychological capital, and anticipatory grief among caregivers of cancer patients. Methods: This study surveyed from January to September 2023 among 265 caregivers of lung and breast cancer patients in two public hospitals. They completed measures of caregiver burden, family resilience, psychological capital, cognitive appraisal, coping, and anticipatory grief. AMOS software was used to model the data with Bayesian structural equation modeling. Results: Bayesian structural equation modeling results showed that caregiver burden had a direct effect on anticipatory grief. The chain mediating effects for cognitive appraisal tendency and coping tendency between caregiver burden, family resilience, psychological capital, and anticipatory grief, respectively. Coping tendency acted as a mediator between psychological capital and anticipatory grief. Conclusions: The relationships between caregiver burden, family resilience, and psychological capital with anticipatory grief are embedded in the mediating effects of cognitive appraisal and coping. Early identification and intervention for caregiver burden, family resilience, psychological capital, cognitive appraisal, and coping methods may prevent anticipatory grief in caregivers of cancer patients. Background: Despite physical and emotional distress in patients with gynecologic malignancies, palliative care (PC) is underutilized. Objectives: We characterize referral practices, symptom burden and functional status at the time of initial PC encounter for patients with gynecologic cancer. Design: Data were extracted from the standardized Quality Data Collection Tool for Palliative Care (QDACT-PC). We describe symptom burden and performance status. Results: At initial specialty PC encounter, patients with gynecologic cancers reported a mean of 3.3 moderate/severe symptoms. Outpatients experienced the most moderate/severe symptoms (mean 3.9) versus inpatient (mean 2.1) or home (mean 1.5). A total of 72.7% of patients had significantly impaired functional status (palliative performance scale [PPS] <70) at initial encounter. Inpatients had a more impaired functional status (mean PPS 48.8) than outpatients (mean PPS 67.0). Conclusions: The symptom burden for gynecologic cancer patients at initial PC encounter is high. We aimed to examine the relationship between body image and the meaning of life among women with breast cancer. The analytic sample included 142 women with breast cancer, and data were collected using a standardized questionnaire through face-to-face interviews. We used Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, Pearson test, Spearman and Mann–Whitney U test to determine the relationship between the research variables. We found an association between the mean score of body image and the mean score of the meaning of life. As the average score of body image increases, the score of the meaning of life increases (p < 0.05). Findings indicated that the body image score increases by increasing the score of the meaning of life and its dimensions, especially existential vacuum and acceptance of death. Simple Summary: This pilot study aims to identify the physical, mental, social, psychological, and health needs encountered by cancer survivors in order to propose and facilitate appropriate and tailored responses. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of the first multidimensional studies investigating this topic in Italy. Data show that the quality of life of cancer survivors is affected by cancer and its treatment, reporting more frailties than the general population, especially those over 65 years old. These findings could help develop multidisciplinary planning of survivorship care for the transition of patients from oncological management to primary healthcare. In Italy, dedicated studies are lacking, so we aimed to investigate the physical, mental, social, and health difficulties encountered by these patients. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study on breast or colorectal cancer survivors (people 5+ years free from it and its treatments) using an ad hoc survey including validated questionnaires (Grauer–Palombi, SF-36, PREDIMED). Participants were recruited within the Oncology Unit of the "Policlinico Tor Vergata", Italy. Results: A total of 62 patients (80.6% females; years range: 37–87) agreed to be interviewed. A profile of cancer survivors was drafted: an overaged person with multiple co-morbidities, not well-nourished, adhering to the Mediterranean diet, reporting critical conditions as for physical and functional status. The mean number of co-morbidities was 3.6 ± 2.4 SD, with a statistically significant difference between age groups (under and over 65). Compared to the general population, the sample showed more frailties, especially when >65. The risk of having multimorbidity (four or more co-morbidities) significantly increased in those over 65 (OR: 4.72; CI: 1.43–15.59). Conclusion: There is an urgent need for survivorship care planning for the patient-centered continuum of care. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between depressive symptoms and second primary cancer (SPC) in U.S. cancer survivors. Cancer survivors from the 2005–2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) were included in this cross-sectional study, and depressive symptoms were defined by the Patient Health Questionnaire 9 (PHQ-9). The association between depressive symptoms and SPC was assessed via multiple logistic regression, restricted cubic spline (RCS), sensitivity, and subgroup analyses. This study involved 2315 participants representing >15 million noninstitutionalized U.S. residents. Multivariate logistic regression fully adjusted for confounders revealed that cancer survivors with a PHQ-9 score ≥ 10 had a greater risk of developing SPC than those with a PHQ-9 score of 0–4 ([OR] = 1.88, 95% [CI] = 1.20–2.89, p = 0.005). The RCS showed a linear positive correlation between the PHQ-9 score and SPC (p for overall = 0.017). The robustness of this association was subsequently confirmed via multiple interpolation of missing data and different cluster-level methods (namely weighted linear regression) as sensitivity analyses. Furthermore, subgroup analyses confirmed this correlation was stronger in participants with sleep duration <7 h (p for interaction = 0.036). Moderate to severe depressive symptoms in cancer survivors were associated with an increased risk of developing SPC, especially at <7 h of sleep. • Depressive symptoms may be positively associated with the risk of second primary cancer (SPC). • This study utilized NHANES data to provide a representative analysis of the U.S. population, providing broader implications for public health and policy. • Improving depression is a potential prevention strategy for SPC. BRCA1/2 previvors – individuals who have a genetic mutation that increases their lifetime risk of developing breast or ovarian cancer – have unique information needs. Previvors can experience distress and uncertainty when these needs are not met, which can have negative consequences on their physical and psychological health. Previous research suggests meeting previvors' information needs is one way to combat these potential harmful effects. However, limited past research has examined previvors' perceptions of the helpfulness of information. Therefore, through surveying 101 previvors, this study explored previvors' perceptions of the (un)helpfulness of information, what (lack of) barriers previvors face to finding desired information, and the information sources they utilized. A thematic analysis revealed that previvors generally viewed information as helpful (through empowerment, coping, camaraderie, and action) but not always (evident in information overload). Previvors also reported several barriers (such as "the healthcare system in general", exclusivity, and uncertainty), while others reported a lack of resistance to finding desired information. Additionally, frequencies were calculated to find that various healthcare providers, support groups, and friends and family were common information sources. Taken together, these results offer a psychosocial model for understanding the previvor information journey, displaying how the themes are interconnected and unique for each previvor. Purpose: While the unmet healthcare needs are still being improved upon, the wellbeing of cancer patients has increasingly become a prime concern in Malaysia. The objective of this study is to ascertain the trend of unmet supportive care needs, post-traumatic growth (P T G), coping strategies, and social supports among patients with breast cancer over the three time points of treatment: T1 at early diagnosis, T2 for three months after diagnosis, and T3 for six months after diagnosis. Methods: A total of 240 cancer patients participated in this prospective cohort study, with follow-up visits from October 2019 until July 2021. Data were collected using several instruments: Brief COP E, the Source of Social Support Scale (SSSS), the Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory - Short Form (P T GI-SF), and a Malay version of the 34-Item Shortform Supportive Care Need Survey (SCNS-SF34). Results: The results indicated a significant change from T1 to T3 for all domains of the unmet needs (p-value < 0.001), except for the sexual domain. A lower SCNS-SF34 score resulted from more unfavorable social support. The P T GI-SF results indicated a trend toward meeting the unmet needs, and a higher SCNS-SF-34 score predicted a considerably higher P T GI-SF score. Background: Death anxiety is a negative consequence of cancer that influences the quality of life of many patients. This study determined the predictors of death anxiety and the contribution of the sense of coherence to this disorder among Iranians with cancer. Methods: The present research was a descriptive-analytical study that examined cancer patients referring to one of the educational hospitals in Tehran, Iran. Two hundred eligible patients selected by purposeful sampling filled out a clinical and demographic questionnaire. The data were analyzed by the SPSS 20 software. Results: The correlational results revealed a negative and significant relationship between death anxiety and a sense of coherence (r = −0.610). Likewise, age, gender, marital status, occupational and economic circumstances, and cancer type were among the variables that correlated with death anxiety and predicted 85% of this psychological state. Conclusion: The researchers recommend mental assessment in oncological care to identify psychological challenges to realize the ultimate goal of palliative care, i.e. improving patients' quality of life. While many cancer patients who use tobacco try to quit post-diagnosis, some prefer to quit without using tobacco treatment, despite evidence against unassisted quit attempts. This study aimed to understand the rationale for some cancer patients' desire to quit tobacco without assistance. Thirty-five adult cancer patients who currently used tobacco and declined tobacco treatment because of the desire to quit unassisted provided data via a standardized questionnaire and a semi-structured interview. The sample was predominately White, non-Hispanic (85.71%) and female (68.57%). The most common cancer site was gynecological. Key themes that emerged from the interviews were: self-reliance, willpower, social norms, and negative attitudes toward tobacco treatment. The most frequently endorsed barrier to tobacco treatment was " I know others who have quit without tobacco treatment" (82.86%). This study with cancer patients identified affective, cognitive, and personality factors related to quitting unassisted, and social and systemic reasons to not use tobacco treatment. Breast cancer is considered one of the most frequent causes of morbidity and death in women. Individuals' response to information regarding health threats and illness can influence the adjustment of the treatment to existing conditions including the issues of non-completion of treatment or non-attendance at medical appointments. The study aimed to examine the relationship between illness perception, body image dissatisfaction and (mal)adaptive coping styles in breast cancer patients. A sample of 197 patients with diagnosed breast cancer hospitalized at the Center for Oncology and Radiology, Kragujevac, Serbia, was surveyed. The instruments included sociodemographic questionnaire, a Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire (BIPQ), a Body Image Scale (BIS), and a Mini-Mental Adjustment to Cancer Scale (Mini-MAС). Results showed that 52% of the variance of maladaptive coping style in women who underwent mastectomy was explained by the negative illness perception, while body image dissatisfaction reflected through this connection (CFI >.95, GFI >.95, RMSEA =.01, SRMR =.08). Similar results were found in patients with breast-conserving surgery but with lower percentage (36%) of variance explained (CFI >.95, GFI >.95, RMSEA <.02, SRMR <.05). If confirmed by further studies, these results would suggest that patients who underwent mastectomy tend to be more dissatisfied with their body image, have tendency to perceive illness as threatening and resort to maladaptive coping styles. However, any form of appearance modification, including breast-conserving surgery, carries the risk of body image dissatisfaction, and consequently the risk of maladaptive coping behaviors. Our results suggest that health professionals and public policies should put an additional focus on the assessment of the patient's body image dissatisfaction, to improve the health and wellbeing of the affected women. Background: Although fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) is the most important factor affecting the life quality of young breast cancer patients, and it may be affected by the patient's personality, marital relationship and communication, there is a lack of research on the relationship between adult attachment, self-disclosure and FCR in patients. This study investigated the current situation of FCR in young breast cancer patients, its correlation with adult attachment and self-disclosure and its influencing factors, in order to predict the impact of adult attachment and self-disclosure of patients to spouse on FCR. Methods: A survey was conducted on 126 breast cancer patients at our hospital using the General Information Questionnaire (GIQ), Fear of Progression Questionnaire-Short Form (FoP-Q-SF), Experiences in Close Relationships inventory (ECR), and Distress Disclosure Index (DDI). The study analyzed the status of FCR among young breast cancer patients and its correlation with adult attachment and self-disclosure, along with its influencing factors. Results: Among the 126 young breast cancer patients, 50 had a FoP-Q-SF score <34 (normal group), while 76 had a FoP-Q-SF score ≥34 (FCR positive group), with an FCR incidence rate of 60.32%. Univariate analysis showed statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of FoP-Q-SF score, ECR score, attachment anxiety score, attachment avoidance score, DDI score, age, educational level, employment status, per capita monthly income, and treatment method (p < 0.05). Correlation analysis revealed that FoP-Q-SF scores were positively correlated with attachment anxiety score, attachment avoidance score, ECR scores and negatively correlated with DDI scores (p < 0.05). Linear regression analysis indicated that age, per capita monthly income, treatment method, attachment anxiety, attachment avoidance and self-disclosure level were negative predictors of FoP-Q-SF scores in young breast cancer patients (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The incidence rate of FCR among young breast cancer patients is high. There is a positive correlation between adult attachment and the level of FCR, and a negative correlation between the level of self-disclosure and FCR. Patients with lower per capita monthly income, more complex treatment methods, higher level of attachment anxiety, higher level of attachment avoidance and lower DDI scores had higher FoP-Q-SF scores. Background: Keratinocyte carcinoma (KC) is a common malignancy characterized by a high recurrence rate and considerable psychological distress. The incidence of KC is increasing in China, raising concerns about its psychological consequences and adverse effects on quality of life. Demographic and clinical factors are thought to influence mental health outcomes in these patients. Nonetheless, data on the prevalence of anxiety in Chinese patients with KC and the factors associated with this anxiety are notably lacking. Therefore, a comprehensive investigation into the anxiety of patients with KC is imperative. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of anxiety in patients with KC, a disease that can significantly affect a patient's appearance and overall quality of life. Understanding the level of anxiety in this population is critical to developing targeted interventions, improving treatment outcomes, supporting mental health, and improving patient care practices. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at China's largest dermatology hospital from November 2017 to September 2022. A consecutive sampling method was used to recruit participants. Anxiety status was surveyed by the Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS). Explanatory variables were surveyed by demographic data questionnaires. Non-parametric test and Chi-square test analyses were used to compare the differences between groups. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to identify factors associated with anxiety. Results: A total of 192 patients with KC were included. The median score of SAS was 35 (IQR 16.25). The prevalence of anxiety in patients with KC was 20.8%. Females (p = 0.008), under 60 years old (p = 0.011), living in rural (p = 0.010) or urban areas (p = 0.029), having fewer than three children (p = 0.016), with a history of skin diseases (p < 0.001), with a history of long-term oral medication (p = 0.001), and experiencing pain or itching (p = 0.001) had SAS scores that were significantly higher than their counterparts. Conclusion: This study showed that the prevalence of anxiety was very high among Chinese patients with KC, especially among women, young patients, rural residents, patients with fewer than three children, and individuals with a history of skin disease, long-term oral medications, or symptoms of pain or itching. Tumor mutation profiling (MP) is often conducted on tissue from biopsies conducted for clinical purposes (diagnostic tissue). We aimed to explore the views of patients with cancer on who should own tumor biopsy tissue, pay for its storage, and decide on its future use; and determine their attitudes to and predictors of undergoing additional biopsies if required for research purposes. In this mixed methods, cross-sectional study, patients with advanced solid cancers enrolled in the Molecular Screening and Therapeutics Program (n  = 397) completed a questionnaire prior to undergoing MP (n  = 356/397). A subset (n  = 23) also completed a qualitative interview. Fifty percent of participants believed they and/or relatives should own and control access to diagnostic tissue. Most (65.5%) believed the government should pay for tissue preparation. Qualitative themes included (1) custodianship of diagnostic tissue, (2) changing value of tissue across time and between cultures, (3) equity regarding payment, and (4) cost-benefit considerations in deciding on additional biopsies. Background: Although there are a growing number of studies investigating the benefits of music therapy interventions with patients diagnosed with cancer, few studies have taken an approach that specifically examines indices of perceived well-being in women with breast cancer. Overcoming these challenges can be an important step in the recovery process. Purpose: The purpose of our study was to know the positive influence of responsive music therapy through gong sounds, emitted live, on different areas of well-being of women with breast cancer. Methods: Four individual sessions of responsive music therapy with live gong sounds were conducted in which three women (M = 54; SD = 5.57) participated both in the music therapy program and in the completion of the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy – Breast (FACT-B) and a semi-structured interview with ad hoc designed questions about perception of qualitative aspects. Results: The results showed that the music therapy sessions significantly improved, p =.043 < 0.05, various domains of perceived well-being in women with breast cancer. Discussion: This article highlights several key benefits associated with music therapy and various indices of well-being in women with breast cancer, identifies the limitations of the study, and discusses the findings. It is considered necessary to replicate this practice in future studies that include a larger sample and age range over longer follow-up periods. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in unprecedented changes to cancer care in many countries, impacting cancer patients' lives in numerous ways. This study examines the impact of changes in cancer care on patient's health-related quality of life (HRQL), which is a key outcome in cancer care. The study aims to estimate patients' self-reported HRQL before and during the pandemic and identify predictive factors for their physical and mental wellbeing. Method: The study employed the large-scale Outpatient Cancer Care (OCC) Patient Experience Survey, including the Veterans RAND 12-Item Health Survey, to evaluate cancer patients' experiences and HRQL before (January to May 2020) and during the COVID-19 pandemic (May to July 2021). Paired t-tests were conducted to compare differences in Physical Component Scores (PCS) and Mental Component Scores (MCS) before and during the pandemic. Multivariable linear regressions were employed to investigate the factors (sociodemographic, clinical, and patient-reported experience) influencing PCS and MCS during the pandemic. Results: PCS decreased significantly during the pandemic, while MCS remained stable. Lower PCS contributors included older age, more telehealth visits, self-reported hospitalization, and a longer time since the last cancer diagnosis. Higher PCS was associated with urban residence, higher MCS during the pandemic, and perceived active Healthcare Provider (HCP) involvement. For MCS, lower scores related to female gender and more telehealth visits, while higher scores were associated with being white, higher education, high MCS before the pandemic, and perceived active HCP involvement. Conclusion: The OCC Patient Experience Survey provides a unique patient level data set measuring HRQL pre- and post- the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The study highlights challenges faced by cancer patients during the pandemic, with a significant reduction in PCS. However, the stability in MCS suggests effective coping mechanisms. Sociodemographic, clinical, and telehealth-related variables play a complex role in shaping both PCS and MCS. Perceived HCP involvement emerges as a crucial factor correlating with higher PCS and MCS. Navigating the post-pandemic era necessitates interventions fortifying patient-provider relationships, optimizing healthcare support systems, such as telehealth services, and prioritizing mental-well-being given its impact on both PCS and MCS. Background/Objective: Few Spanish mindfulness interventions have been evaluated in Latinx patients with cancer. We culturally adapted a mindfulness intervention for Spanish speaking Latinx patients. The objective was to measure feasibility and acceptability as primary outcomes, with changes in anxiety, depression, and sleep as secondary outcomes. Method: Spanish-speaking Latinx patients with breast cancer (n = 31) were randomized, between April 2021 and May 2022 to either intervention or wait-list control groups. The mindfulness intervention consisted of 6-weekly 1.5-hour sessions remotely delivered by a novice facilitator. Cultural adaptations included language, metaphor, goal, concept, trauma informed, and acknowledgement of spirituality. Feasibility was benchmarked as 75% of participants attending their first session, 75% of participants completing 4 of 6 sessions, and scoring ≥ 4 on a 5-point Likert feasability scale measuring ability to implement changes after 6-weeks. Acceptability was measured as scoring ≥ 4 on a 5-point Likert scale measuring usefulness and relevance of the mindfulness intervention for each session. An intention-to-treat, linear mixed model with repeated measures analysis examined changes in anxiety, depression, and sleep at week 6 and 18 (3 months post intervention). Results: All three feasibility benchmarks were met with 75% of first session attendance, 96% of participants completing 4 of 6 sessions, and 94% scoring ≥ 4, on the feasibility scale (Mean (SD) = 4.3 (0.6)). Acceptability scores for both usefulness and relevance questions were ≥ 4 across all 6 sessions. Anxiety was significantly reduced at 3 months (−3.6 (CI -6.9, −0.2), P =.04), but is of unclear clinical significance given the small change. Depression scores declined, but not significantly, and there were no changes in sleep. Conclusion: This culturally adapted, remotely delivered mindfulness intervention using a novice facilitator was acceptable and feasible and demonstrated associated reductions in anxiety amongst Spanish speaking Latinx patients with breast cancer. Introduction: There is a need for a validated Vietnamese translation of the colorectal cancer subscale (CCS) of the functional assessment of cancer therapy–colorectal (FACT-C) questionnaire to assess colorectal cancer-specific concerns of Vietnamese persons with colorectal cancer post-surgery. Objectives: This study aims to translate and validate the CCS of FACT-C questionnaire in Vietnamese persons with colorectal cancer post-surgery. Methods: The nine-item CCS was translated following the functional assessment of chronic illness therapy (FACIT) translation methodology guidelines. Psychometric properties of a Vietnamese version of the CCS were evaluated with a sample of 135 participants who were randomly selected from three hospitals in Vietnam, utilizing a multistage sampling method. Construct validity was examined through confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and reliability was assessed using Cronbach's α coefficients. These measures aimed to validate the psychometric properties of the Vietnamese nine-item CCS version. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze participant demographics with SPSS. Results: The translated version demonstrated equivalence to the original English version. CFA results for the CCS Vietnamese version indicated that all 9 items were consistent with a unidimensional questionnaire (χ2 = 69.669, p >.05, df = 27, χ2/df = 2.58, RMSEA =.074, CFI =.917, TLI =.901, SRMR =.057). The Cronbach's α coefficient was.86, indicating high reliability. The Correlated Item-Total Correlation for the 9 items ranged from.39 to.76. Conclusion: The nine-item CCS Vietnamese version demonstrated appropriate translation, establishing its validity and reliability in measuring colorectal cancer-related concerns within the health-related quality of life among Vietnamese persons post-surgery. Background: Cancer is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally. Dyspnea, affecting up to 60% of cancer patients, exacerbates physical and psychological distress, reducing quality of life. This study aims to explore the relationship between dyspnea and factors such as age, sex, clinical diagnosis, and treatment lines in cancer patients, with the goal of improving understanding and management of this debilitating symptom to enhance patient care and quality of life. Methods: This study employed an observational, cross-sectional, and descriptive approach to investigate patients with oncological disease at the University Hospital of Salamanca between March 2021 and April 2024. A convenience sample was selected, including patients over 18 years old with a pathological diagnosis of cancer, experiencing any degree of dyspnea, and who consented to participate by signing the informed consent. Exclusion criteria included lack of consent and clinical conditions that prevented an interview. The studied variables encompass sociodemographic (age, gender, diagnosis, tumor stage, number of treatment lines) and clinical aspects (daily activities, degree of dyspnea, functional capacity, physical performance), evaluated using the Barthel Index, the mMRC Dyspnea Scale, the ECOG Scale, and the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB). Data were collected through semistructured interviews and medical records, and analyzed using specialized software. This research has ethical approval CEiM Code 2023 12 1472, Reference 2024/01. Results: The mean age was 66.82 years. Lung cancer was predominant (60.2%), with most patients in stage 3 (65.7%) and receiving three treatment lines (68.7%). Higher age, advanced disease stage, and more treatment lines correlated with lower Barthel and SPPB scores, and higher ECOG and mMRC scores, indicating worse functionality, physical performance, and greater dyspnea. No significant correlations were found between gender or pathological diagnosis and the studied variables. Conclusions: Advanced age, higher disease stage, and more treatment lines are associated with decreased functionality, poorer physical performance, and increased dyspnea in cancer patients. Gender and specific cancer diagnosis do not significantly affect these relationships. Addressing dyspnea is crucial to improving the quality of life and physical performance in this population. Background: Spiritual care for patients at the end of life is an important element in their holistic care. The aim of this study is to assess the opinions of cancer patients with limited prognosis about the importance of faith in fighting illness and the factors contributing to a better adjustment to illness and to their self-reconciliation and spiritual well-being. Material and Methods: This study used a specially designed questionnaire for cancer patients with limited prognosis. The 30 respondents were patients with an estimated prognosis of less than 1 month, cared for in a unit with palliative and home care beds. Results: The patients emphasized the importance of family as a supporter in the fight against disease (90%), followed by faith (66.7%) and a care team (63.3%). The most common concerns expressed were related to the course of their disease, family distress, fear of death, and the Russian–Ukrainian war. Conclusion: Family and faith represent important factors in supporting and caring for a patient at the end-of-life. Background: Opt2Move is a theory-guided moderate and vigorous physical activity (MVPA) promotion trial that uses multiphase optimization strategy (MOST) methodology to evaluate the individual and combined effects of four intervention components in a full factorial experiment among young adult cancer survivors (YACS; N = 304). All participants will receive the core mHealth MVPA intervention, which includes a Fitbit and standard self-monitoring Opt2Move smartphone application. YACS will be randomized to one of 16 conditions to receive between zero and four additional components each with two levels (yes v. no): E-Coach, buddy, general mindfulness, and MVPA-specific mindfulness. Objective: The primary aim is to determine the individual and combined effects of the components on MVPA post-intervention (12-weeks) and at 24-week follow-up. The secondary aim is to examine how changes in MVPA are associated with patient-reported outcomes, light-intensity activity, sedentary time, and sleep duration and quality. Potential mediators and moderators of component effects will also be examined. Results: Results will support the selection of a package of intervention components optimized to maximize MVPA to be tested in a randomized controlled trial. Purpose: This study investigated changes in psychological and physiological indices in cancer survivors who participated in a forest therapy camp in Korea. Methods: A total of 37 cancer survivors (19 and 18 in the experimental and control groups, respectively) participated in this study. Over a 2-night and 3-day period, the participants in the experimental group took part in a forest therapy camp that included activities such as gymnastics, walking, five-senses experiences, and meditation. Both groups completed self-report questionnaires that measured their stress levels and profile of mood states, both before and after the forest therapy camp. Blood samples were collected to measure the levels of cortisol, serotonin, and natural killer (NK) cells. Results: After the forest therapy camp, the experimental group exhibited reduced stress levels (p = .031) and a significant improvement in total mood disturbance (p = . 047) when compared with the control group. The level of serotonin also significantly increased (p < .001). However, in contrast to the prediction, a significant increase in cortisol was noted in the experimental group relative to the control group (p = .016). Moreover, no significant difference in NK cells was noted between the two groups. Conclusion: Forest therapy can be easily applied to cancer survivors. The positive psychological effects of the forest therapy camp were confirmed by improvements in stress and mood states and the increased level of serotonin in forest therapy camp participants. Background: Familism, the cultural value that emphasizes feelings of loyalty and dedication to one's family, has been related to both positive and negative outcomes in Hispanic cancer survivors. One potential source of observed inconsistencies may be limited attention to the family environment, as familism may be protective in a cohesive family whereas it can exacerbate distress in a conflictive family. Purpose: The current study explored the associations of familism with general and disease-specific health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in Hispanic men who completed prostate cancer (PC) treatment, and whether family cohesion may help explain these relationships. Methods: Hispanic men treated for localized PC (e.g., radiation, surgery) were enrolled in a randomized controlled stress management trial and assessed prior to randomization. Familism (familial obligation) was assessed using Sabogal's Familism Scale and family cohesion was measured using the Family Environment Scale (ranging from high to low). The sexual, urinary incontinence, and urinary obstructive/irritative domains of the Expanded Prostate Cancer Index Composite – Short Form measured disease-specific HRQoL. The physical, emotional, and functional well-being subscales of the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy – General captured general HRQoL. Hierarchical linear regression and the SPSS PROCESS macro were used to conduct moderation analyses, while controlling for relevant covariates. Results: Participants were 202 older men on average 65.7 years of age (SD = 8.0) who had been diagnosed with PC an average of 22 months prior to enrollment. Familism was not directly associated with general and disease-specific HRQoL. Moderation analyses revealed that greater familism was related to poorer urinary functioning in the incontinence (p =.03) and irritative/obstructive domains (p =.01), and lower emotional well-being (p =.02), particularly when family cohesion was low. Conclusions: These findings underscore the importance of considering contextual factors, such as family cohesion, in understanding the influence of familism on general and disease-specific HRQoL among Hispanic PC patients. The combined influence of familism and family cohesion predicts clinically meaningful differences in urinary functioning and emotional well-being during the posttreatment phase. Culturally sensitive psychosocial interventions to boost family cohesion and leverage the positive impact of familistic attitudes are needed to enhance HRQoL outcomes in this population. Breast cancer is especially prevalent among women. It can affect patients' sexual function, body image, and marital relations. The aim of present study was to investigate the relationship between body image and sexual function among women with breast cancer. This case–control study was done online on patients admitted to the clinic of breast cancer in 2021 in Jahrom, Iran. The sample consisted of 222 women (111 with breast cancer who had undergone mastectomy and 111 without breast cancer). To collect data, two questionnaires, female sexual function index and body image scale, were used. p < 0.05 was significant. Sexual dysfunction among women with breast cancer was 91%. The most common disorder was sexual arousal. Comparing sexual domains: desires disorder (OR: 3.11, 95% CI: 1.63–5.49), arousal disorder (3.31, 95% CI: 1.16–9.45), orgasm (OR: 4.08, 95% CI: 1.57–10.55), vaginal lubrication (OR: 2.68, 95% CI: 1.06–6.76), sexual satisfaction (OR: 2.65, 95% CI: 1.11–6.36), and painful intercourse (OR = 2.03 95% CI = 0.95–4.35) saw a decrease in the women with breast cancer group compared to the control group. The body image concern among women with breast cancer (51.56 ± 15.09) compared to the control (45.80 ± 16.82) was significant (OR = OR: 2.66, 95% CI: 1.22–5.81). Women with breast cancer undergo problems in sexuality and are afraid of their body image. Moreover, there is a correlation between sexuality and body image. Therefore, it is necessary to inform patients about the effects of treatments and the side effects of breast cancer on sexuality. Sexual dysfunctions are highly prevalent among women with breast cancer, and have been associated with body image. This study examined the relationship between body image and sexual function among women with breast cancer. Purpose: Few studies have specifically targeted symptom management interventions for adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors. A greater understanding of AYA cancer survivors' experiences with cancer treatment-related symptoms would help develop age-appropriate oncology symptom management interventions. The purpose of this qualitative analysis was to explore AYA cancer survivors' experience with cancer treatment-related symptoms. Methods: Nineteen post-treatment AYA cancer survivors (18–39 years old) who self-reported moderate–severe cancer treatment-related symptom severity participated in video conferencing or telephone interviews. The questions in the interview guide queried participants to share their experience with cancer treatment-related symptoms. Inductive content analysis was used to identify themes from the interviews. Results: The themes that emerged from the interviews included (1) cancer treatment-related symptoms negatively affected AYA cancer survivors' quality of life (e.g., symptoms served as a reminder of cancer recurrence possibility); (2) AYA cancer survivors' attitudes and feelings about communicating cancer treatment-related symptom concerns to clinicians (e.g., patient–clinician communication was bolstered when AYAs perceived that symptoms were being taken seriously); (3) AYA cancer survivors are interested in oncology symptom management clinical trials, but logistical challenges are barriers to participation; and (4) AYA cancer survivors are interested in nonpharmacological treatments for symptom management. Conclusion: Results highlight the burden of cancer treatment-related symptoms on day-to-day life among post-treatment AYA cancer survivors. Future work is needed to identify nonpharmacological symptom management interventions, strategies to improve patient–clinician communication about symptoms, and strategies to increase the visibility and accessibility of symptom management clinical trials for AYA cancer survivors. Purpose: Reproductive health (RH) is a critical issue among cancer survivors worldwide. However, in developing countries where RH services for patients with cancer are often lacking, reproductive concerns among adolescent and young adult (AYA) survivors remain uncertain. In this study, we assessed the reproductive concerns of AYA cancer survivors in a resource-limited context of Uganda. Methods: We collected data from AYA cancer survivors at two facilities in Uganda using an interviewer-administered questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were calculated, one-way analysis of variance was used for intergroup comparisons, and multiple regressions were used to test for predictors of reproductive concerns. Results: A total of 110 AYA cancer survivors, with a median age of 20 years (interquartile range [IQR], 18–22), were interviewed. More than half (53.6%) of the respondents were males. The median time since cancer diagnosis was 19 months (IQR, 13.0–35.0). Almost all (91.8%) respondents had a future desire to have children, but only 15.5% received reproductive counseling. The mean total score for the reproductive concern subscales was highest for the fertility concern, followed by the information-seeking and health-related concerns. Reproductive counseling, desire to have children, and respondents' age were the factors influencing reproductive concern. Conclusions: The study shows a strong desire for biological parenthood with very low reproductive counseling among AYA cancer survivors, who remain concerned about their fertility, information needs, and health. Purpose: Assessing patient and guardian experiences regarding their history of ovarian tissue cryopreservation (OTC) years after initial procedure. Methods: Cross-sectional follow-up telephone survey. A questionnaire developed by The Pediatric Initiative Network of the Oncofertility Consortium, modified to assess intent and attitudes regarding OTC, tissue access knowledge, financial burden of tissue storage, and intent to use tissue, was utilized. Interviews were conducted for those who underwent OTC at a metropolitan children's hospital between 2013 and 2022. Results: Of 60 eligible patients, 39 interviews were completed. Contacted patients were 3–28 years old, with minors accompanied by guardians. Average age at OTC was 8.5 years old, and 5.1% (2/39) were deceased at the time of contact. All interviewees underwent OTC for fertility preservation before gonadotoxic treatment. Seventy percent of patients (7/10) and 48.1% (13/27) of guardians stated they would use frozen tissue for pregnancy, with 50% (5/10) of patients and 59.3% (16/27) of guardians not understanding tissue access. Regret occurred in 10% (1/10) of patients and 3.4% (1/29) of guardians. It was associated with 10.8% (4/37) of tissue discard due to failed storage payments. Financial concerns occurred in 29.7% (11/37) of interviewees. Overall, 92.3% (36/39) would recommend OTC, and 94.9% (37/39) would repeat their choice to undergo OTC. Conclusion: Follow-up after OTC is essential to patient understanding of tissue status, access, and payments. Most do not regret OTC, except in cases of financial burden leading to tissue discard. Purpose: We investigated the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of an adolescent and young adult (AYA)-aged South African childhood cancer survivor (CCS) cohort. Methods: Participants completed the Minneapolis-Manchester Quality of Life adolescent and adult forms. The overall Cronbach's alpha coefficients were 0.81 (adolescent form) and 0.92 (adult form). The scale-level content validity indexes were acceptable (0.88 and 0.89 for the adolescent and adult forms, respectively). The total domain and overall HRQoL scores were calculated. Results: Sixty-two survivors completed the adolescent form and 30 completed the adult form. The median age was 17.5 years (range 13–34 years), and the median time from diagnosis was 12 years (male:female ratio 1:1.2). Risk factors for poor physical functioning included age at study visit (p = 0.015), solid tumor diagnosis (p = 0.012), radiotherapy (p = 0.021), and surgery (p = 0.006). Six or more late effects impacted most domains negatively; severe late effects (p = 0.020) decreased physical functioning. Lower socioeconomic status was associated with poorer physical (p = 0.006) and cognitive (p = 0.047) functioning. The adult form cohort had poorer psychological (p = 0.014) and social functioning (p = 0.005) and body image (p = 0.016) than the adolescent form cohort. Conclusion: Older age, radiotherapy, surgery, solid tumor diagnosis, and the number and severity of late effects negatively influenced HRQoL in AYA-aged CCSs. Provider empathy is a crucial component in establishing therapeutic provider–patient relationships. The benefits of increased perceptions of empathy can support patient psychological adjustment to their cancer as well as patients' comfort and confidence in disclosing to providers, ultimately promoting patient engagement. Guided by the disclosure decision-making model, this manuscript explores how perceptions of empathy influence patient psychological adjustment and how those variables influence patient disclosure efficacy. The model ultimately predicts patient sharing and withholding of information during the medical interaction. This study tested a mediation model to investigate how current (n = 111) and former (n = 174) breast cancer patients' psychological adjustment mediates the relationship between patient perceptions of oncologist empathic communication and efficacy to disclose health information to their oncologist and their disclosure enactment in sharing and withholding. Overall, former patients compared to current patients had more positive perceptions of their oncologist's empathic communication, had better psychological adjustment, felt more self-efficacy to disclose to their oncologist, and shared more and withheld less information from their oncologist (p <.05 in all cases). Structural equation modeling revealed good fit to the data for both current and former patients such that more perceived empathic communication was associated with more efficacy for disclosure, which was associated with more sharing and less withholding. Additionally, there was an indirect relationship from perceptions of empathic communication to disclosure efficacy through patients' psychological adjustment to the diagnosis. Results reinforce the importance of providers' empathic communication for cancer patients' psychological adjustment because patient sharing and withholding of information remain crucially important to achieving holistic care across the cancer trajectory. The relationship between emotion regulation (cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression) and HRQoL in cancer patients is currently gaining momentum, yet, no research to date has investigated the nature of this relationship. The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderating role of social support in the relationship between ER and HRQoL in Nigerian cancer patients. Participants included 361 cancer patients (female = 56.79%, mean age = 41.61, SD 15.47) conveniently drawn from the oncology unit of the University Teaching Hospital, Nigeria. They completed the measures of Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General (FACT-G), emotion regulation and Perceived Social Support. The moderated regression analysis via PROCESS procedures for SPSS Version 3 was used for data analysis. The results showed that cognitive reappraisal significantly predicted HRQoL (β = 2.12, t = 4.39, p =.000). Social support also significantly predicted HRQoL (β =.73, t = 4.57, p =.000). Most importantly, social support moderated the relationship between cognitive reappraisal and HRQoL (β = −.034, t= −4.23, p =.000), but not between expressive suppression and HRQoL (β = −.015, t= −1.61, p =.10). The moderation slope revealed that cognitive reappraisal significantly predicted HRQoL particularly at lower and moderate levels of social support. These findings reveal that the effect of emotion regulation on HRQoL depends much on an individual's level of perceived social support. It also means that social support boosted the positive impact of emotion regulation on HRQoL. Simple Summary: Oropharyngeal carcinoma (OPC) and its treatments can negatively affect patient quality of life (QoL). This study focused on assessing the impact on QoL in OPC survivors using the EORTC QLQ-C30 and EORTC QLQ-H&N35 scales before treatment and in the first and third years after treatment. Of 72 patients treated for OPC, 51 completed all questionnaires over 3 years. A variable deterioration of the QoL scores was detected prior to treatment. Most items of QoL worsened significantly after treatment and during the first year and improved in the third year. Advanced-stage cancer and definitive chemoradiotherapy treatment showed the worst scores. Patients treated with an open surgical approach exhibited significant deterioration compared to transoral surgery. This prospective long-term study in a homogeneous group of OPC survivors showed that although QoL was generally good, patients needed a long period of time to recover from both cancer and treatment effects. Background: Although there is evidence that cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)-based group interventions can improve quality of life (QoL) in women undergoing treatment for breast cancer (BC) little is known about factors that mediate and moderate these effects. We examined a) the mediating role of benefit finding on QoL changes after a Cognitive Behavioral Stress Management (CBSM) intervention, and b) whether this mediation effect differed based on baseline optimism in the first year following surgery for BC. Methods: We used data from a prior CBSM trial in 240 women with stage 0–3 BC who completed measures of benefit finding (Benefit Finding Scale, BFS), QoL (Functional Assessment of Cancer Treatment, FACT-G), and optimism (Life Orientation Test-Revised) at baseline (2 – 10 weeks post-surgery), 6-months and 12-months after randomization. CBSM-related changes and mediation and moderation effects were assessed using latent growth curve models. Results: We found CBSM increased benefit finding (b = 2.65, p < 0.01), emotional (b = 0.53, p < 0.01), and functional QoL (b = 0.71, p < 0.05) over time. CBSM-related changes in emotional QoL were mediated by increased benefit finding (indirect effect = 0.68, 95% bootstrapped CI: 0.17, 1.56) but only among participants with low to moderate optimism at baseline. Conclusion: CBSM intervention improved emotional QoL over the first year of breast cancer treatment by increasing benefit finding among women who reported low trait optimism suggesting those who will most likely benefit from improving benefit finding during this stressful period. Background: Family caregivers of terminally ill and dying people do not only experience varying levels but also different dimensions of caregiver-related strain and burden. The aim of the study was to develop a short multidimensional screening tool for the detection of burden in family caregivers in palliative care. Methods: Family caregivers of cancer patients newly admitted to specialist inpatient palliative care (N = 232) completed questionnaires on psychological burden, quality of life, social support and need fulfillment. A latent class mixture model was used to identify discrete classes of family caregivers related to their multidimensional caregiver burden. Multinomial logistic regression analyses were performed to identify the most predictive items from a set of established questionnaires. Results: Four latent classes of family caregivers were identified: Currently stable caregivers (37%), Caregivers with unmet needs (20%), Psychologically burdened caregivers (30%), and High-risk caregivers (13%). Each of these classes describes a different risk profile of multidimensional family caregiver burden, although family caregivers exhibit high levels of distress across all classes. From a set of 48 items, we identified eight items that predicted the class membership best. These items represent the items of the novel multidimensional screening tool: The 8-item Screening Tool for Family Caregiver Burden in Palliative Care (CAREPAL-8). Except for social support, the items maintained fidelity to the conceptualization of multidimensional caregiver burden used in this study. A preliminary classification system was developed, which has yet to be validated. Conclusions: This study represents the first step in the establishment of a practical, self-administered screening tool that might help healthcare providers to tailor caregiver care according to their burden in daily practice. BACKGROUND: Complementary and alternative medicines (CAM) are being uses more often with cancer patients. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate attitudes, use and influencing factors of CAM among cancer patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: This descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted on 407 cancer patients in Turkey. The study was conducted during July-September 2021 using a Questionnaire that included a Complementary, Alternative and Conventional Medicine Attitude Scale (CACMAS). Pearson's Chi-Squared Test, Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis, and logistic regression were all utilized. RESULTS: The findings revealed that 76.2% of the participants stated that they used CAM methods while undergoing cancer treatment, and 65.2% of those who did so kept from sharing this information to medical professionals. Phytotherapy was the most common CAM method used by patients. The use of CAM was found to be significantly higher among those who were 55–64 years of age, married, secondary school graduates, non-smokers, CAM users before their cancer diagnosis, and who had a family history of cancer (p < 0.05). The participants' average CACMAS scores were 112.20±16.53. Among those who used CAM during treatment, non-smoking, overweight-obese participants had higher CACMAS scores (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Due to the high prevalence of CAM usage among cancer patients and possible interaction effects with chemotherapy medications, it is important for healthcare professionals to assess and educate cancer patients regarding CAM use. Background: Quality of life (QoL) is an important determinant of physical and mental health. QoL in head and neck cancer tends to deteriorate due to changes in the physical, functional, psychological aspects. EORTC-QLQ-H&N35 is an instrument that measure the QoL specifically in head and neck cancer patients. EORTC-QLQ-H&N35 give a numeric value to QoL of patients with high value correspond to better QoL. Objective: The aim of present study was to find out the cut-off points of numeric values of EORTC-QLQ-H&N35 to categorize QoL impairment into different categories (normal, mild, moderate, and severe). Present study also aims analyze the QoL among head and neck cancer patients under these new categories. Methodology: Total 205 patients of head and neck cancer visiting to the outpatient unit were enrolled in this study. Hindi version of EORTC-QLQ-H&N35 was used to evaluate the QoL. Total 9 classification schemes were created with different cut-off points to classify the global QoL score into normal, mild, moderate and severe categories. QoL data was then analyze using the scheme having highest F value in ANOVA test. Results: Classification scheme having cut-off values 76–100 for normal QoL, 51–75 for mild QoL impairment, 26–50 for moderate and 0–25 for severe QoL impairment found to have highest F value (729.915) in ANOVA test. The mean QoL score among total 205 patients were 60.08 ± 19.06. Based on the new classification scheme, QoL was normal in 46 (22.4%) patients whereas QoL was impaired to mild level in 76 (37.1%) patients, to moderate level in 76 (37.1%) and to severe level in 7 (3.4%) patients. Role functioning, emotional functioning and social functioning was impaired to severe level in 4 (2.0%), 13 (6.3%) and 3 (1.5%) patients respectively. Conclusion: EORTC-QLQ-H&N35 offer a comprehensive review of QoL in head and neck cancer patients. Simple Summary: Quality of life significantly affects health outcomes in cancer patients. However, evidence of an association between diet quality and quality of life in cancer survivors is sparse in Mediterranean countries. The aim of this study was to evaluate the associations between an a priori diet quality index, the Healthy Eating Index-2015 (HEI-2015), and quality of life, assessed through a validated questionnaire targeted at women with a breast cancer diagnosis. A higher HEI-2015 score was positively associated with summary quality of life score and inversely associated with symptom scores. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) represents one of the most concerning aspects for cancer patients. The Healthy Eating Index (HEI) is an a priori diet quality index directly associated with health outcomes and HRQoL in cancer survivors in North American populations. We evaluated, in a Mediterranean population, the baseline associations between HEI-2015 and HRQoL in 492 women with breast cancer recruited in a DEDiCa lifestyle trial. Dietary data were obtained from 7-day food records; HRQoL was assessed through the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Core 30 (EORTC QLQ C30) and the C30 Summary Score (SumSc). Analysis of variance and multivariable linear and log-gamma regression models were performed. Mean and standard deviation for HEI-2015 score was 68.8 ± 11.2; SumSc was 81.5 ± 12.9. Women with lower HEI-2015 score had higher BMI, were more frequently exposed to tobacco smoke and had fewer years of education. Patients with a HEI-2015 score greater than 68.7 (median value) showed a significant increase in SumSc of 4% (p = 0.02). HEI-2015 components also associated with SumSc were beans and greens (β = 1.04; p = 0.02). Weak associations were found for total vegetables and saturated fats. Background: Psychological factors such as anxiety and mood appear to influence acute postoperative pain; however, there is conflicting evidence on the relationship between preoperative psychological parameters and the severity of postoperative pain. In the context of the stressful setting of initial surgery for breast cancer, we conducted a prospective observational study of patients who were scheduled to undergo initial breast cancer surgery. Methods: The objectives were to examine the potential associations between predefined preoperative psychological parameters and (i) Self-reported pain scores at discharge from the postoperative acute care unit, (ii) Cumulative perioperative opioid consumption at four hours postoperatively and (iii) Self-reported pain as measured during the first seven days after surgery. Patients completed the following questionnaires during the three hours prior to surgery: the Spielberger State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI State and Trait), the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), the Cohen Stress Questionnaire (CSQ), the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS A and D), and the short-form McGill Pain Questionnaire. Postoperative pain experience was assessed using patient self-reports of pain (SF Magill Pain questionnaire on discharge from the postanaesthesia care unit and a pain diary for seven days postoperatively) and records of analgesic consumption. Results: Pre- to postoperative self-reported pain was significantly different with respect to the STAI State, Cohen score and PCS for both low and high values (p < 0.001), but only patients categorized as having low STAI Trait, HADS A, and HADS D values achieved significant differences (p < 0.001). A significant positive correlation was demonstrated between preoperative state anxiety (STAI) and the most severe pain reported during the first seven days postoperatively (r = 0.271, p = 0.013). Patients who were categorized preoperatively as having a "high value" for each of the psychological parameters studied (HADS A and D, STAI State and Trait and PCS) tended to have greater perioperative opioid consumption (up to four hours postoperatively); this trend was statistically significant for HADS D and HADS A only. Using a linear regression model, state anxiety was found to be a significant predictor of postoperative pain based on self-reports during the first seven postoperative days (standardized β = 0.271, t = 2.286, p = 0.025). Conclusion: Preoperative state anxiety, in particular, is associated with the severity of postoperative pain experienced by women undergoing initial breast cancer surgery. Background: Patient reported outcomes (PROs) are being used frequently in clinical practice. PROs often serve several purposes, such as increasing patient involvement, assessing health status, and monitoring and improving the quality-of-care at an aggregated level. However, the lack of representative PRO-data may have implications for all these purposes. This study aims to assess the association of non-administration of (not sending an electronic invite to PRO) and non-response to (not responding to PRO) electronically administered PROs with social inequality in a primary healthcare cancer rehabilitation setting. Furthermore, it examines whether the workflows surrounding PRO have an impact on non-administration and non-response. Methods: This is a cross sectional study using routinely collected data from electronic health records and registers including cancer survivors (CSs) over 18 years booked for an initial consultation in a primary healthcare cancer rehabilitation setting using PROs for systematic health status assessment. During the study period two different PRO platforms were used, each associated with different workflows. Non-administration and non-response rates were calculated for sociodemographic characteristics for each PRO platform. Crude and adjusted odds ratios were calculated using univariate and multivariate logistic regression. Results: In total, 1868 (platform 1) and 1446 (platform 2) CSCSs were booked for an initial consultation. Of these, 233 (12.5%) (platform 1) and 283 (19.6%) (platform 2) were not sent a PRO (non-administration). Among those who received a PRO, 157 (9.6%) on platform 1 and 140 (12.0%) on platform 2 did not respond (non-response). Non-administration of and non-response to PROs were significantly associated with lower socioeconomic status. Moreover, the workflows surrounding PROs seem to have an impact on non-inclusion in and non-response to PROs. Conclusions: Non-administration of and non-response to PROs in clinical practice is associated with determinants of social inequality. Clinical workflows and the PRO platforms used may potentially worsen this inequality. It is important to consider these implications when using PROs at both the individual and aggregated levels. Objective. Due to various long‐term consequences of the disease, cancer survivors (CS) can experience incompatibilities between areas of life (work, family, household, leisure time, and disease) that can be associated with reduced satisfaction with these areas of life. To be able to assess such incompatibilities quantitatively, a six‐item instrument (INCOMPAT‐CS) was developed and psychometrically evaluated. Methods. Based on relevant theories, a multidisciplinary team developed the items of the INCOMPAT‐CS. Descriptive analyses, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, as well as validity and reliability assessments were conducted using survey data from n = 293 CS collected as part of the CARES study. Incompatibilities between areas of life were measured with the newly developed INCOMPAT‐CS instrument. Results. A one component solution with satisfactory model fit (normed χ2 = 1.90, RMSEA = 0.06, CFI = 0.99, and TLI = 0.97) was identified in exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. The INCOMPAT‐CS demonstrated acceptable internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.790) and high test‐retest reliability ρ = 0.569 (p < 0.001). Convergent validity could be demonstrated (CR = 0.858 and AVE = 0.506). Hypothesis‐consistent correlations with role and social functioning measures further indicate convergent validity. Conclusions. The INCOMPAT‐CS is useful to assess incompatibilities among areas of life in CS quantitatively. Moreover, it helps to reveal the areas negatively affected due to incompatibilities. This short instrument can be useful in aftercare or psychosocial support interventions to detect incompatibilities and work towards reducing them as a consequence to increase CS' wellbeing. Objective: This study aims to assess the clinical effectiveness of combining mindfulness‐based stress reduction (MBSR) with exercise intervention in improving anxiety, depression, sleep quality and mood regulation in patients with non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods: A total of 60 patients with NSCLC who had not received surgical treatment were selected using convenience sampling and divided into an intervention group and control group, with 30 patients in each group. The control group received conventional psychological nursing care, whereas the intervention group received a combination of MBwSR and exercise therapy. Before the intervention, a questionnaire was completed to collect the basic data of the two groups. Further questionnaires were administered at 6 and 8 weeks after treatment to assess anxiety, depression, sleep quality and other items included in the five‐item Brief Symptom Rating Scale (BSRS‐5). Results: No significant differences between the intervention and control groups were identified in terms of personal and clinical characteristics (p > 0.05). No significant differences were determined in the BSRS‐5, Self‐Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Self‐Rating Depression Scale (SDS) or Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) scores between the intervention and control groups before the intervention. However, 6 and 8 weeks after the intervention, scores were significantly lower in both groups (p < 0.001). Significant differences in the BSRS‐5, SAS, SDS and PSQI scores were identified between the two groups at different time points (p < 0.001). Background: The mental and emotional health of persons diagnosed with cancer is frequently affected. The acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is one of the psychological interventions that has proven successful in easing these psychological symptoms and enhancing cancer patients' psychological well‐being. Methods: A two‐arm randomized controlled trial study was utilized, 30 eligible clients with colorectal cancer were chosen randomly and were given ACT therapy at a 1:1 ratio. ACT was delivered in six sessions for 3 weeks, followed by 3 months follow‐up. Results: The table shows a statistically significant increase in the mean scores of the mental health and its flourishing level among the study group than those of the control group. Cognitive impairment was significantly decreased among the study group than for those in the control group. Conclusion: The ACT‐based interventions may be a promising approach for improving mental health and cognitive function in cancer patients, particularly those with advanced disease. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate associations among social determinants of health (SDOH), stress, interleukin-6 (IL-6), and quality of life among non-Hispanic Black and Hispanic cancer survivors. SAMPLE & SETTING: Individuals who had completed cancer treatment and did not identify as White (N = 46) were recruited through community partnerships in western Massachusetts and a state cancer registry. METHODS & VARIABLES: This descriptive crosssectional study used questionnaires and morning salivary samples to collect data between June 2022 and September 2023. RESULTS: Most participants were breast cancer survivors, were female, identified as African American or Black, and reported moderate levels of stress and low physical activity. Cortisol levels were higher among African American or Black participants, those with lower body mass index, and those with less consumption of fruit and vegetables. Higher symptom experience was associated with higher IL-6 levels. No associations were identified between IL-6 and cortisol or perceived stress and cortisol levels. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING: Incorporating SDOH in self-reported outcomes, including health behaviors and associated biologic indicators, can facilitate early identification and interventions to improve symptom experience and health outcomes of cancer survivors. To examine the associations between demographic/medical and geographic factors with follow-up medical care and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among cancer survivors during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Cross-sectional survey. An online survey was sent to cancer survivors between May 2020 and January 2021, exploring their experience with SARS-CoV-2, follow-up care, and HRQoL. PolicyMap was used to geocode home addresses. Both geographic and demographic/medical factors were examined for their associations with SARS-CoV-2 experience, follow-up care, and HRQoL (FACT-G7). Geographic data were available for 9651 participants. Patients living in the highest area deprivation index (ADI) neighborhoods (most deprived) had higher odds of avoiding in-person general (odds ratio [OR] = 7.20; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 2.79–18.60), cancer (OR = 8.47; 95% CI = 3.73–19.30), and emergency (OR = 14.2; 95% CI = 5.57–36.30) medical care, as well as lower odds of using telemedicine (OR = 0.61; 95% CI = 0.52–0.73) compared to the lowest ADI group. Race/ethnicity was not associated with follow-up care after controlling for ADI. The effect of ADI on HRQoL was generally in the expected direction, with higher ADI being associated with worse HRQoL. ADI influenced follow-up medical care more than age, race/ethnicity, or health insurance type. Healthcare providers and institutions should focus on decreasing barriers to in-person and telemedicine health care that disproportionally impact those living in more deprived communities, which are exacerbated by health care disruptions like those caused by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Simple Summary: Communication by health professionals impacts the mental health of cancer patients. This research sought to further explore this matter by studying the possible relationships between communication and a patient's depression, anxiety, quality of life, coping strategies, and perception of their state of health. A total of 177 patients diagnosed with cancer answered a battery of questionnaires on these aspects. Our findings show that oncologists are better at delivering a cancer diagnosis than other healthcare professionals and that communication by them can impact patients' mental and health variables. We believe that there is a need to implement better communication strategies among all healthcare professionals to facilitate the task of breaking bad news to patients. This will have a positive impact on patients' emotional states and health while reducing stress and burnout among the healthcare professionals themselves. The field of healthcare is increasingly adopting a humanistic perspective in the physician–patient relationship. One of the more salient aspects being studied is the communication between the two. This study serves a dual purpose. Our initial aim was to study how a cancer diagnosis is disclosed to patients by different physicians (GPs/other specialists/oncologists). Secondly, we set out to study how the way in which oncologists normally communicate with their patients impacts variables such as a patient's anxiety, depression, coping mechanisms, and perception of both their health and their quality of life. A total of 177 patients answered a battery of questionnaires on sociodemographic and disease data: the SPIKES protocol, the EORTCQLQ-COMU26, and the ADAF screening questionnaire. The analyses recorded medium or high scores for some of the steps in the SPIKES protocol when delivering the diagnosis, and significant differences were observed for some of them among different physicians. The level of a cancer patient's satisfaction with the communication by oncologists was related to their levels of anxiety, depression, vulnerability, and perception of their health and quality of life. Few studies have examined the distinct reproductive concerns (RC) of men and women in the adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer patient population. The purpose of this mixed-methods study was to explore and differentiate the RC of AYAs. Participants completed the Reproductive Concerns After Cancer (RCAC) scale and participated in a semistructured interview. Interviews were deductively coded based on an analytic schema derived from the RCAC. After identifying participants through the electronic health record, 27 younger AYAs, ages 12–25, enrolled in the study. Four inductive themes emerged and differed by gender. These include differential temporality, acceptance, and openness to alternatives, partner influence, and parental/guardian influence. AYA men reported fewer RC (M = 49.4, SD = 9.6) compared to AYA women (M = 56.8, SD = 8.4). Oncofertility care providers are advised to account for short- and long-ranging concerns based on AYAs' gender. Purpose: To determine the trajectories of spiritual distress and religious involvement among cancer patients during chemotherapy. Methods: A prospective longitudinal study was conducted over 15 months with quarterly data collection, in a total of with five cut points. Data collection was applied a questionnaire that embraced sociodemographic characteristics, clinical profile, Spiritual Distress Scale, and Belief into Action Scale. Regarding, data analysis was performed univariate, bivariate, and multivariate statistics, and the study was approved by the Ethics Committee. Findings: From the 322 cancer patients at the beginning, the attrition rate was 17.5% in the last time point. Most of participants were women (56.6%), with an average age of 60.3 years, and had a religious affiliation (93.7%). Statistically significant values were found of spiritual distress and religious involvement across the five cuts. At the end of 3 months after starting chemotherapy, the highest value of spiritual distress and the lowest value of religious involvement were reached. Conclusions: Cancer patients who are submitted to chemotherapy, after 3 months of treatment experience the peak of spiritual distress and the lowest value of religious involvement. This critical period for nurses' is required a massive approach regarding spiritual and religious needs. Implications for nursing practice: Therefore, knowing the trajectories of spiritual distress and religious involvement during a certain period allows for the anticipating of planning of nursing therapeutic interventions in order to promote spiritual health and spiritual well‐being outcomes in cancer patients. Cancer diagnosis and treatment can be physically arduous, disrupting patients' social and work lives. Understanding the extent of these problems is key to addressing patients' needs, but specific psychosocial challenges have not yet been well studied in resource-limited settings. A qualitative study was conducted in the capital and two regions of Ethiopia with the aim of exploring psychosocial challenges among cancer patients. A total of 14 in-depth interviews (IDIs) and 16 focus group discussions (FGDs) were done with cancer patients, health professionals, community representatives, and religious leaders. Four separate interview guides were used to facilitate the interviews and discussions. All transcribed documents, field notes, and reflexive memos were entered into NVivo 12 software, and deductive thematic analysis using the social-ecological model was applied to summarize the main findings. At an individual level, emotional distress, suicidal risk, denial, and refusal of treatment were identified immediately after diagnosis while hopelessness, feeling depressed, and fear of death were commonly reported psychosocial challenges during the course of treatment. Involvement of family members in major treatment decisions was recognized at an interpersonal level. Our result also revealed that cancer patients had strong social support from family members and close friends. In the community, traditional medicine and religious rituals were considered an alternative treatment for cancer. The findings indicate that counselling and psychoeducation are crucial for cancer patients, family members, and close friends. Post-gastrectomy syndrome (PGS) and body weight loss (BWL) decrease quality of life (QOL) and survival of the patient undergoing gastrectomy. We have introduced perioperative and post-discharge continuous nutritional counseling (CNC) to prevent BWL and improve QOL after gastrectomy. In the present study, we evaluated the effect of CNC on QOL using the Post-gastrectomy Syndrome Assessment Scale-45 (PGSAS-45). Eighty-three patients with gastric cancer (GC) who underwent curative gastrectomy between March 2018 and July 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients received either pre-discharge nutritional counseling alone (control group, n = 45) or CNC (CNC group, n = 38) after gastrectomy. QOL at 12 months after gastrectomy was compared between the two groups. In QOL assessment, change in body weight (−7.98% vs. −12.77%, p = 0.0057), ingested amount of food per meal (7.00 vs. 6.07, p = 0.042) and ability for working (1.89 vs. 2.36, p = 0.049) were significantly better in CNC group than control group. Multiple regression analysis showed that CNC was a significantly beneficial factor for abdominal pain subscale (p = 0.028), diarrhea subscale (p = 0.047), ingested amount of food per meal (p = 0.012), Ability for working (p = 0.031) and dissatisfaction at the meal (p = 0.047). Background and objective Different degrees of self-transcendence exist in lung cancer patients, which can stimulate patients' self-awareness and promote them to face negative events in life positively, thus improving patients' quality of life and treatment outcomes. However, there are few reports on self-transcendence in lung cancer patients in China, and the related influencing factors have not yet been clarified. This study aims to investigate the current situation of self-transcendence in lung cancer patients and explore its risk factors, so as to provide a theoretical basis for clinical intervention decision-making. Methods 243 lung cancer patients who were admitted to the Department of Lung Cancer Center of West China Hospital, Sichuan University from September 2023 to February 2024 were enrolled as the study subjects; general information questionnaire, self-transcendence scale, Herth hope scale and social support scale were used for the investigation. The influencing factors related to self-transcendence of lung cancer patients were analyzed. Results The total mean score of self-transcendence in lung cancer patients was (44.73±8.94); the total mean score of hope level was (37.60±4.98), and the total mean score of social support was (41.31±7.27). Self-transcendence was positively correlated with hope level and social support (P<0.001, P<0.001). Education, hope level and social support were influencing factors of self-transcendence in lung cancer patients (P<0.05, P<0.001, P<0.05). Conclusion Self-transcendence in lung cancer patients was at a low level and was influenced by hope level and social support. Healthcare professionals should pay attention to improving the hope level of lung cancer patients, carrying out targeted psychological interventions, and at the same time guiding them to enhance the perception of social support, so as to promote the realization of self-transcendence in patients. Background: Oncology patients receiving chemotherapy are at a high risk for developing infections. Identifying factors that predict infection practices among these patients can help improve the quality of care provided. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to infection prevention in oncology patients receiving chemotherapy. Methods: A cross - sectional study was conducted among 170 patients with cancer. Results: The majority of participants had a low to moderate level of knowledge, with high levels of attitude and practice related to infection prevention. Knowledge was a significant predictor of attitude and practice, while attitude was a predictor of infection prevention practices. Knowledge and attitude emerged as mutual predictors, which could explain 23% of the variation in practice toward infection prevention (R 2 = 0.230, P =.00).
