Background: Death is an abstract concept that extends over life. Although it is a natural part of life, people have difficulty coming to terms with it. Objective: This study was investigated the effect of fear of COVID-19 on nursing students' attitudes towards death and the care of dying patients. Results: The study is descriptive and cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 250 nursing students from two universities in Turkey. The data were collected using Demographic Characteristics Questionnaire, Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S), the Death Attitude Profile (DAP) and Frommelt Attitude Toward the Care of the Dying Scale (FATCOD). Conclusion: Female students have more fear of COVID-19 than male students. Students with a high fear of COVID-19 have more positive attitudes towards death and caring for the dying individual. While it was determined that the COVID-19 pandemic affected nursing students in many ways, it was concluded that the fear of COVID-19 had an effect on attitudes of nursing students related to end-of-life care and death. AIM: One of the most common problems in individuals receiving neurotoxic chemotherapy is neuropathy. The study aimed to evaluate the peripheral neuropathy and the relationship between neuropathy, disability, and anxiety in patients receiving neurotoxic chemotherapy. METHODS: The sample of the study consisted of individuals with cancer in the chemotherapy unit of a city hospital between March and July 2021. The study was conducted in 180 patients who underwent at least three cycles of neurotoxic chemotherapy and agreed to participate. The Introductory Information Form, Brief Disability Questionnaire, Beck Anxiety Inventory, and Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events were used to collect data. RESULTS: The prevalence of peripheral neuropathy in patients undergoing neurotoxic chemotherapy was 73.3% in this study. According to the severity of peripheral neuropathy, disability and anxiety scores of the patients showed a significant difference (p < .001). A positive, moderate significant correlation was determined between the scores for anxiety and disability. The variables affecting the neuropathy levels of individuals receiving chemotherapy were determined as marital status (odds ratio=0.239), number of cycles (odds ratio=0.125), and anxiety levels (odds ratio=1.076). CONCLUSION: The results of the present study indicated that the frequency of neuropathy was high and the severity of neuropathy was associated with anxiety and disability levels. Purpose: This study was conducted to determine nursing student attitudes towards ageism, their willingness to care for older adults, their level of care quality perception, and to examine the relationships between them. Material and Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study. The study was conducted at four different universities in Turkiye. The population for the research consisted of fourth-year students studying in the nursing departments of four different universities in 2020 - 2021 academic year. Data were collected using the Student Information Form, Ageism Attitude Scale, Elderly Patient Care Inventory, and Caring Behaviors Inventory-24. In the data analysis, independent samples t-test, ANOVA and Spearman Correlation were used. Results: Students had positive attitudes towards ageism. There were positive relationships between ageism with perception of care quality and willingness to care for older adults. It was determined that there was a positive and statistically advanced relationship between the willingness to care for the elderly and the attitude of ageism (r=0.48; p<0.001). It was determined that there was a positive and significant relationship (r=0.49; p<0.001) between age discrimination and the level of perception of quality of care. There was no statistically significant relationship between students' willingness to care for the elderly and their caring behaviors (r=0.18; p>0.05), but there was a significant relationship between the sub-dimension of commitment (r=0.24; p<0.05). Conclusion: The increases in students' positive attitudes towards ageism, their perception of the quality of care and willingness to care for the elderly are positive in parallel. Aim: This study aimed to investigate the effects of web-based education on nursing students' learning of the nursing process. Method: The study was conducted in a nursing faculty. The population of the study consisted of 90 students. The control and implementation groups were determined by drawing lots. The traditional classroom education method was used in the control group for teaching the nursing process. In the implementation group, web-based education was used in addition to traditional classroom education. "Identification Form", "Nursing Process Knowledge Form", "Visual Analog Scale", "Nursing Process Assessment Form" and the software program developed on the web were used to collect data. Means, standard deviation, number, percentile, independent two samples t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, chi-square test and Brunner-Langer test were used in the analysis of the data. Results: The mean age of students was 20.77±2.25 in the implementation group and 20.70±1.35 in the control group. Of the students, 77.3% in the implementation group and 89.1% in the control group were females. According to 63.3% of the students, the nursing education they received was sufficient. The students in the implementation group were satisfied with the education method used in teaching the nursing process (p<0.005) and their nursing process application skill scores were higher than those of the students in the control group. Conclusion: The web-based education positively contributed to nursing students' learning of the nursing process and improved the nursing process application skills of the students in the implementation group at higher levels. Researchers aim to examine mediating variable role of health literacy in the relationship between fear of contracting Covid-19 in women and use of holistic complementary alternative medicine. The study was conducted as descriptive cross-sectional. The researchers collected study data by conducting an online questionnaire from 285 women between April 01 and June 30, 2021. In our study, a significant relationship was found between education level and health literacy, having a chronic illness, not being able to find a permanent job and fear of Covid-19 (p < 0.05). Positive correlation exists between fear of contracting Covid-19 and Holistic Complementary and Alternative Medicine Practice (correlation between HCAM Practice β=.21). When health literacy variable is included, the level of relationship decreases (β=.18). The researchers determined that as the level of health literacy increased, the women resorted to HCAM practices less despite their fear of contracting Covid-19. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to determine the meaning of death for nursing students and their attitudes toward dignified death principles. The descriptive study was conducted with nursing students studying at a state university in Turkey. The data were collected using the Personal Information Form, the Personal Meanings of Death Scale (PMDS), and the Assessment Scale of Attitudes toward the Principles of Dying with Dignity (ASAPDD). A positive and low-level significant relationship was determined between the students' age and the scores for the PMDS subdimensions and the ASAPDD. It was found that the students had positive perceptions of death and adopted the principles of a dignified death. It was determined that an increase in the students' perceptions of death positively affected their adoption of the principles of a dignified death. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences and needs of family caregivers of stroke patients who require physical restraints. The themes and sub-themes that emerged included "the reason for the use of PR" (disruptive behaviors of the patient and personal reasons of caregivers), "the turmoil of having to use PR" (inevitableness, comparing benefits and harms, the emotional effect of PR, and physical effects), and "unmet needs and suggestions" (unmeet needs and suggestions). Objective: The determination of nutritional knowledge and nutrition literacy among nursing students will enable nursing departments to establish the needs and solutions to enhance nutrition education in their education programs. Therefore, this study is aimed to evaluate the nutrition literacy and nutrition knowledge level of nursing students. Method: The study data were collected with 'Information Form', 'Anthropometric Measurements', 'Nutrition Knowledge Level Scale for Adults', and 'Evaluation Instrument of Nutrition Literacy on Adults'. Analyzes were performed using descriptive and nonparametric tests. Results: The score of nutrition knowledge is 56.6 ± 6.8 and 50.5% of them have a good nutrition knowledge level. The total nutrition literacy score is 28.6 ± 4.4 and 91.6% of them have a sufficient nutrition literacy level. It was no significant difference between students' characteristic features and nutrition knowledge score and nutrition literacy total score (p > 0.05). There was a statistically significant positive correlation between the nutrition knowledge score and the nutrition literacy total score and the nutrition literacy sub-sections scores (p < 0.05). Conclusion: It has been determined that the nutrition knowledge and nutrition literacy levels of nursing students correlated with each other. To improve students' nutrition knowledge levels, as well as to improve their nutrition literacy and prevent non-communicable diseases nutrition lessons should be included in the curriculum. Background: Primary school teachers play an important role in furnishing children with basic knowledge about health literacy and awareness of COVID‐19. This study was conducted to determine the levels of health literacy and COVID‐19 awareness among preservice primary school teachers and the factors associated with this. Methods: The sample of this cross‐sectional and correlational study consists of 978 preservice primary school teachers studying at 4 major universities in Turkey. The participation rate was 90.14%. Data were collected with 3 questionnaires, the Descriptive Characteristics Form, the Health Literacy Scale, and the COVID‐19 Awareness Scale. Results: The mean score of the Health Literacy scale was 105.16 (SD = 13.04). The mean scores of the Contagion Precaution Awareness, Awareness of Following Current Developments, and Hygiene Precaution Awareness subscales of the Coronavirus Awareness Scale were 34.27 (SD = 6.19), 12.94 (SD = 4.34), and 11.69 (SD = 3.60), respectively. It was determined that the total health literacy score was affected by gender, school, and grade/year (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior) and that COVID‐19 awareness was affected by gender, age, grade/year, school, having contracted COVID‐19 or not, and being vaccinated or not in the various subscales (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Preservice primary school teachers' health literacy was found to be sufficient with a moderate level of COVID‐19 awareness. We recommend planning interventions for preservice primary school teachers that will improve their health literacy and COVID‐19 awareness, taking influential factors into account when doing this planning. Purpose: To determine the relationship between nurses' cognitive flexibility and happiness and the factors affecting them. Design and Methods: A Nurse Information Form prepared by the researchers, a Cognitive Flexibility Inventory, and the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire Short Form were administered to 722 nurses working at the Istanbul Medical Faculty Hospital. This was a descriptive and cross‐sectional study. Results: Nurses' cognitive flexibilities had a positive and significant relationship with happiness (p < 0.05). The power of explaining happiness was R2 = 28.6% for cognitive flexibility. Conclusion: Regarded as a significant factor for people's happiness, the impact of cognitive flexibility on nurses' happiness was examined in this study. Purpose: The aim of the research is to determine the relationship between the gender role approaches and the sexual care attitudes, beliefs, and self‐efficacy of nursing students. Design and methods: This cross‐sectional study included 109 nursing students. Findings: A negative correlation was found between the Gender Roles Attitude Scale and the Sexual Attitudes and Beliefs Scale (p < 0.001). A positive correlation was found between the Gender Roles Attitude Scale and the self‐efficacy in clinical performance scale total score and its assessment, diagnosis, planning, and implementation subscales (p < 0.05). Practice implications: This study is considered to be useful to specify the education and awareness strategies that will contribute to better preparation of the nursing students for sexual health services. Results: The most commonly used diagnoses by students included impaired sleep pattern, lack of knowledge, and risk of infection. However, it was observed that none of the students made any diagnoses related to the activities of controlling body temperature, working and playing, or expressing sexuality. Conclusions: It was concluded that the students did not collect enough data related to the activity of expressing sexuality, had difficulty collecting data related to elimination, and had a moderately negative perception of nursing diagnoses. Purpose: This study aims to examine the effect of nursing students' life satisfaction and psychological well‐being on their perceived happiness levels. Method: The study, which was designed as a descriptive and cross‐sectional study was carried out in Turkey with 264 students of nursing. Findings: Students' life satisfaction and happiness (r = 0.722), psychological well‐being and happiness (r = 0.743), and psychological well‐being and life satisfaction (r = 0.689) were found to be positively and highly correlated. Students' gender and perception of income status and general health status affected their happiness levels. It was revealed that life satisfaction and psychological well‐being predict happiness (63.6%). This study aimed to examine the relationship between nursing students' perception of spiritual care and their attitudes towards death. This cross-sectional study was conducted in Turkey between March and April 2021 with 601 nursing students using the Google Forms questionnaire. The "Spirituality and Spiritual Care Rating Scale (SSCRS)" and "Attitude towards Death Scale (ATDS)" were utilised to assist with data collection and analysis. While there was no relationship between the students' total SSCRS and total ATDS scores, there was a positive relationship between the total SSCRS and the Neutral Acceptance–Approach Acceptance Subscale (r = 0.129, p = 0.002), and a negative relationship between SSCRS and the Fear of Death and Avoidance of Death Subscale (r = − 0.097, p = 0.017). Providing support in terms of spiritual care and viewing spiritual care as related to nursing were related to the total SSCRS score. Alcohol use, viewing spiritual care as related to nursing, self-perceptions of spirituality, and fear of death were associated with the total ATDS score (p < 0.05). It is recommended that spiritual care and death perceptions be addressed more comprehensively in the educational curriculum of nursing students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Barriers to palliative care can also be seen during the nursing education period. Assessment is needed to determine whether the training program for palliative care in nursing education is effective. Objectives: This study was conducted to determine validity and reliability of The Palliative Care Self-Reported Practices Scale (PCPS) and The Palliative Care Difficulties Scale (PCDS) in Turkey. Methodology: This study comparative study included a correlational method to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of PCDS and PCPS. The sample group of the study was composed of 346 nurses and nursing students. The data were obtained by using the Nurse/Nursing Student Information Form, PCDS and PCPS. Results: The total Cronbach α of the PDCS was .81, the total factor loading was 0.64-0.92 and the total variance was 68.8%. The total Cronbach α of the PCPS was 0 .91, the total factor loading was 0.58-0.87, and the total variance explained was 76.5%. As a result of the PDCS factor analysis, we determined the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin coefficient as 0.74, the Barlett test χ² as 1903.117 and as a result of the adolescent form factor analysis, we determined the KMO as 0.89, and the Barlett test χ² as 3711.049. Conclusion: This study suggests that PCDS and PCPS are valid and reliable instruments for measuring palliative care difficulties and self-reported palliative care practices. ABSTRACT: Background: Medication administration via enteral tubes is a complex and key application for which nurses in intensive care units are responsible. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate drug administrations via enteral tubes by nurses in intensive care units. Methods: This research was conducted using a descriptive and cross‐sectional research design. The study was conducted with 289 nurses at intensive care units in hospitals in İzmir, Turkey. The data of the study were collected with the ‘Sociodemographic Information Form’ and the ‘Enteral Medication Administrations Questionnaire’, which was designed in accordance with the literature and consists of questions on interventions before, during and following medication administrations via enteral tubes. Results: It was found that more than half the nurses (62.3%) use nasogastric tubes for medication administrations and that all of them use the enteral way for the administration of medications in the form of tablets, while 58.8% use this method to administer the medications in the form of enteric‐coated tablets. It was determined that approximately half the nurses (52.6%) apply more than one medication separately, and a majority (84.1%) use tap water to wash the enteral tube. Conclusions: Enteral medication administration practices are inconsistent. Some nurses use unsafe practices and may therefore compromise patient care. Relevance to clinical practice: Conduction of education programmes on medication administration via enteral tubes for intensive care unit nurses is important in improving nurses' knowledge. Breast cancer and cervical cancer are important causes of cancer‐related mortality in women all over the world. The present study was conducted in order to investigate the distribution of cervical and breast cancer risk factors in women and their knowledge and behaviours about cancer screening methods. The study is cross‐sectional in nature. It was conducted with the participation of 1,886 women in Turkey. Data were collected through a questionnaire. The knowledge and behaviours of women aged 40 and over about breast cancer or cervical cancer screening methods were investigated according to the education level; results showed that the rates of those who knew and did breast self‐examination were significantly lower in illiterate women. Besides, the rates of women who did breast self‐examination were significantly lower in those who were aged 40 and over, and the rates of those who had clinical breast examination and Pap smear test were significantly lower in women aged 39 and below (p < 0.01). This study identified the most notable breast and cervical cancer risk factors as low education levels, high number of deliveries, short breastfeeding period, obesity and low socio‐economic level.
