Aberrant interoceptive accuracy could contribute to the co-occurrence of anxiety and premonitory urge in chronic tic disorders (CTD). If it can be manipulated through intervention, it would offer a transdiagnostic treatment target for tics and anxiety. Interoceptive accuracy was first assessed consistent with previous protocols and then re-assessed following an instruction attempting to experimentally enhance awareness. The CTD group demonstrated lower interoceptive accuracy than controls but, importantly, this group difference was no longer significant following instruction. In the CTD group, better interoceptive accuracy was associated with higher anxiety and lower quality of life, but not with premonitory urge. Objectives. This study examined whether self-rated health is an independent and significant predictor of mortality in people with diabetes, using data collected in the Wisconsin Epidemiologic Study of Diabetic Retinopathy. Methods. Participants were asked to rate their health in comparison with others their age. A proportional hazards model was used to regress survival time on self-rated health and a number of covariates measuring physical health. Results. People with younger onset diabetes (n = 891) who rated their health relative to their peers as 'worse' or 'don't know' were no more likely to die than those rating their health as 'the same' or 'better' when physical health status was controlled. In contrast, those with older onset diabetes (n = 987) who rated their health as 'worse' or 'don't know' were almost twice as likely to die as those rating their health as 'the same' or 'better' when physical health status was controlled. Conclusions. Self-rated health is a significant predictor of mortality in people with older onset diabetes but not in those with younger onset diabetes when physical health status is controlled. A study of self-evaluation of quality of life compared 987 people who were diagnosed with diabetes after age 30 (older onset) and 891 diabetics diagnosed before age 30 (younger onset). Younger-onset diabetics were no more likely to die in the six-year follow-up period, regardless of how they rated their health and quality of life. Older-onset diabetics, however, had noticeably higher mortality rates if they rated their health as poorer than their peers. Fifty-five percent of those older-onset diabetics who rated their health as worse than their peers had died before the end of the follow-up period, compared to only 35% of those who rated their health the same as or better than their peers. The ratings of worse health provided by younger-onset diabetics were accounted for by complications from diabetes. The reference groups older-onset diabetics considered their peers was unclear.
