Residential care for children and young people is typically regarded as the least preferred option in out-of-home care by child welfare and protection practitioners. Increasingly, residential care is only used to place young people after multiple unsuccessful placements in kinship or foster care. Consequently, these young people often come into residential care with complex needs and entrenched emotional and behavioural difficulties. Coplacement of these young people in residential care has raised significant and persistent concern of peer victimisation while in residential care. Improved matching of peers within residential care may enhance safety and stability, a proposal for which young people themselves have expressed support. However, the matching of young people in residential care has received little attention in research. This article reports the qualitative findings of a multiinformant study, drawing on the first-hand experiences of 34 participants comprising eight young people and 26 practitioners in residential care, to identify the considerations they perceived as important when matching young people in residential care. Framework analysis of young people's and practitioners' perspectives identified three matching strategies that may more effectively address the concern of peer victimisation in residential care including (1) balancing risks and strengths; (2) steering into collective duty of care; and (3) involving young people in planning and transition. Implications of the findings directly point to the need to prioritise young people's rights to protection and participation, and to provide independent oversight to assist residential care organisations and the broader child welfare system to navigate the complexity in the practice of matching young people in residential care. This article draws on the lived experiences and perspectives of young people and practitioners in therapeutic residential care to examine what constitutes relationship-based practice. Eight young people and twenty-six practitioners across three residential care services in Australia participated in this qualitative study. Framework analysis identifies that personalised engagement, a delicate balance between care and control, and perseverance through turbulent times are conducive to relationship-based practice in therapeutic residential care. Relationship-based practice is also found to be employed in a unique historical and relational context that demands mindful navigation through three specific professional boundary issues including self-disclosure, over-identification and physical contact. Against this context, relationship-based practice in therapeutic residential care is considered a 'double-edged sword', offering practitioners copious opportunities to build connections with young people in informal environments whilst needing to mitigate multiple ethical ambiguities. Implications for practice include the need to safeguard the 'do no harm' priority whilst resisting defensive or detached practice. Intimate partner violence (IPV) routine screening is widely implemented, yet the evidence for pathways to impact remains unclear. Of the 32 abused women interviewed 16 weeks after antenatal IPV screening, 24 reported positive impact, six reported nil positive impact, and two reported negative impact. Using qualitative comparative analysis (QCA), key conditions for positive impact were care in asking, and support and validation from the midwife. Lack of these and lack of continuity of care were relevant to nil positive impact. Benefits included naming the abuse, connection, unburdening, taking steps to safety, and enabling informed care. Abstract Lack of education and training have been identified as common barriers nurses experience in implementing domestic violence screening. The reasons for the barriers are poorly understood. Participants were interviewed to determine if and how they screen for domestic violence, which patients are screened, and how pre-licensure education and current workplace training has influenced this practice. An exploratory qualitative design guided by Constructivist Grounded Theory was used. Eligible participants were contacted via a social media and sixteen agreed to participate in the study. Individual interviews were conducted utilizing an open-ended interview guide. Data collection and analysis were done concurrently exploring factors influencing screening behaviors. Six themes emerged from the interview data: Preparedness, Discomfort, Taboo, Disenchantment, Presumptuous, and Evolving Realizations. These findings suggest nurses are not being taught about screening for domestic violence., Findings also suggested work environment and peers influenced if and how diligently nurses screened. The findings point to an interpersonal or intimate nature to screening for domestic violence that is unique and may require highly interactive training throughout pre-licensure education and work orientation. “Coming out” is a process that same-sex attracted people undergo if they choose to acknowledge it to others. Minimal research exists examining the coming-out experience for same-sex attracted women in counselling settings. This qualitative study addressed the gaps in existing research by exploring counsellors’ perceptions of factors influencing same-sex attracted female clients to disclose their sexual orientation to a counsellor. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 counsellors from diverse clinical backgrounds. In their view, the main factors influencing disclosure were the perceived lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer (LGBQ) friendliness of a service or counsellor; the presence of LGBQ symbols within services; using gender-neutral language; and the level of a client’s self-acceptance of their sexual orientation. These findings suggest that the utilisation of culturally affirming models by counsellors working with same-sex attracted female clients can create a safe environment for disclosure of sexual orientation. Rationale Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a significant global public health risk causing premature death and morbidity that largely remains hidden. Understanding decisions about whether or not to disclose abuse when asked about it in health settings is important to ensuring that those experiencing violence are provided with access to services to support their safety and wellbeing. Objective This study tested a model for women's decisions to disclose IPV in response to routine inquiry as part of antenatal assessment. Methods Qualitative configurational analysis, suited to the study of causal pathways in complex social phenomena, was used to analyse interviews with 32 women who had experienced IPV in the past 12 months and who elected, when asked, to either disclose this to the midwife ( n = 24) or not to do so ( n = 8). Findings Multiple pathways to disclosure were identified. While no single factor was necessary or sufficient for a decision to disclose, direct asking and care, defined as showing interest and a non-judgemental attitude, were found to be key conditions. The absence of care was also central to decisions not to disclose, as were perceptions of relevance of the abuse at the time of assessment. Conclusion Confirming key elements of the original model, these findings highlight the importance of being asked about abuse in women's decisions to disclose, as well as the relational nature of this process.
