Trauma-informed design (TID) is a practice that aims to create environments that promote healing and well-being for children who have experienced trauma. TID draws on evidence-based research from disciplines such as brain science, biology, social work, and architecture to identify and minimize potential trauma triggers and design buildings that foster a sense of safety, comfort, and choice. Four recent projects, including a school, a shelter, a mental health facility, and a retreat, showcase the principles of TID in youth-centered settings. These projects prioritize privacy, transparency, connection to nature, and the integration of art to create spaces that affirm and support the healing process. [Extracted from the article]
