This study focuses on 34 victims of aggression at the workplace, less than 48 hours following the incident of aggression. We compared victims who received an EMDR emergency protocol (URG-EMDR; n = 19) that we developed with those who received a method of intervention called eclectic therapy (n = 15). The results show that URG-EMDR therapy, provided within 48 hours, resulted in a greater decrease in perceived stress and a lower PCL-S score than eclectic therapy did. The scores were lower in both groups after 24 hours, and after 3 months, the drop was significantly greater among the victims treated with the URG-EMDR protocol; none of the EMDR-treated patients exhibited symptoms of posttraumatic stress.

This research aims at delimitating the realm of meditation as therapeutic care in the field of the health psychology. The authors concentrate on the most prolific current of these last years in research terms : the meditation in full consciousness. The objective is to define the concept of meditation and full consciousness, to then pay attention on the relevant psychotherapies and clinical studies in this domain. Meditation in full consciousness constitutes a very promising field of research for health psychology within the framework of care. Techniques such as MBSR, MBCT applied to the full consciousness turns out relevant and result in improvement of general health. However, studies on full consciousness are still at very early stage and more rigorous approaches on a methodological level and refined conceptual developments are necessary.

L'utilisation de la thérapie EMDR – Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing –, est novatrice dans le domaine de la douleur chronique. Si son efficacité tend à être démontré dans la littérature, son mode de fonctionnement diffère des psychothérapies classiques. L'objectif principal de ce travail s'est alors attaché à comparer le discours des patients durant l'utilisation de la thérapie EMDR en comparaison avec une thérapie de soutien, dans une Unité hospitalière de prise en charge de la douleur chronique. Quarante-cinq patients, répartis en trois groupes, ont alors bénéficié d'une prise en charge avec la thérapie EMDR (protocole standard), avec la thérapie EMDR (protocole douleur), ainsi qu'en thérapie de soutien. Tous les entretiens ont été retranscrits et analysés à l'aide du logiciel ALCESTE. Les résultats mettent en évidence que les classes sémantiques diffèrent entre les trois formes de thérapie, ainsi que la posture passive ou active du patient lors de la thérapie. Ces résultats nous amènent des indications supplémentaires sur ce qui se passe in fine dans différents types de psychothérapies. The main objective of this work is to compare the speech of patients during the use of EMDR vs. supportive therapy in a supported unit of chronic pain to the hospital. Forty-five patients divided into three groups received EMDR therapy (standard protocol), EMDR therapy (pain protocol) as well as supportive therapy. All interviews were transcribed and analyzed using the software Alceste. The results show that the semantic classes differ between the three forms of therapy, as well as passive or active posture of the patient during the therapy. Résumé Objectif Évaluer les effets de la psychothérapie EMDR dans la prise en charge de patientes souffrant du syndrome du sein fantôme (SSF) après mastectomie. Méthode Huit patientes souffrant de SSF ont bénéficié d’une prise en charge EMDR. Il s’agissait d’évaluer (avant, après, à 3 et 6 mois) les intensités de douleur et de sensation perçue (entre 0 à 10) des seins amputés, ainsi que les scores d’anxiété-état (STAI-état) et de dépression (CES-D). La réalisation de dessins et de coloriages a permis de rendre compte de l’évolution de la représentation mentale des seins mastectomisés. Résultats On observe une baisse significative ( p < .001) des perceptions sensorielles et douloureuses, ainsi, qu’une baisse des scores d’anxiété ( p < .001) et de dépression ( p < .01). Ces résultats restent stables après 3 et 6 mois. En ce qui concerne les résultats qualitatifs on observe un changement particulièrement manifeste du schéma corporel des seins mastectomisés. Objective This study seeks to evaluate the beneficial effects of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) psychotherapy in the treatment of Phantom Breast Syndrome (PBS) patients. The syndrome can be defined as the sensation of breast tissue including painful and non-painful sensations following removal by mastectomy. Method Eight PBS patients took part in the research and were given treatment with EMDR psychotherapy. Quantitative evaluations were carried out before the first psychotherapy session, after the final session and then three and six months after the treatment. The evaluation addressed perceived pain intensity (on a scale from 0 to 10) and perceived sensation (on a scale from 0 to 10) in the amputated breast or breasts, anxiety state (STAI-state) and depression (CES-D). Additional qualitative evaluations were also carried out with two of the patients through drawing and colouring of their breasts to express the change in mental representation of the amputated breasts between the start and the end of the EMDR treatment and of their perceptions of subjective sensations and pain in the breasts themselves. Results Non-parametric statistical analysis shows that following EMDR treatment, there is a significant reduction ( P < .001) in sensory and painful perceptions of amputated breasts. There is a similar decrease in anxiety ( P < .001) and depression ( P < .01) scores. The results all remain stable after 3 and 6 months. The qualitative results of the study of two of the participants show a particularly clear change in the body image of the amputated breasts. While these findings are encouraging and show the benefit of EMDR in the treatment of PBS, they should be treated with caution due to the small sample. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Résumé L’utilisation de la thérapie Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) étant novatrice dans le domaine de la douleur chronique, l’objectif principal de ce travail s’est alors attaché à comparer l’utilisation de la thérapie EMDR vs. une prise en charge éclectique, dans une unité de prise en charge de la douleur chronique, à l’hôpital. Quarante-cinq patients, répartis en trois groupes, ont alors bénéficié d’une prise en charge avec la thérapie EMDR (protocole standard), avec la thérapie EMDR (protocole douleur), ainsi qu’en thérapie éclectique. Les résultats mettent en évidence l’efficacité de la thérapie EMDR sur les composantes sensitives, cognitives, comportementales, émotionnelles mais aussi traumatiques de la douleur, avec une plus grande efficacité du protocole standard EMDR après 5 séances, et une diminution de la douleur qui se prolonge un mois après la fin du traitement. Introduction Chronic pain is a major healthcare issue. Additional costs involved in pain management each year in France amount to more than one billion euros. While painkillers have been proven effective in treating acute pain, their long-term use has negative side effects reducing their effectiveness. Psychotherapeutic schemes like hypnosis and cognitive-behavioural therapies also seem to show mixed results. Objective Considering that the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an innovative approach in chronic pain management, the main focus of this research was to compare the use of EMDR therapy versus eclectic healthcare in a hospital unit specialized in the management of chronic pain. Method Forty-five patients divided into three groups were treated by standard protocol of EMDR therapy, pain protocol of EMDR therapy and eclectic therapy. Results Results show the effectiveness of EMDR therapy on sensory, cognitive, behavioural and emotional but also traumatic components of pain, EMDR standard protocol being most efficient after five sessions, and a reduction of pain extending one month after therapy has been discontinued. Conclusion The interest in the of EMDR in chronic pain management then lies partly in its effectiveness in a few sessions, but also in clinical fast emergence and awareness that it allows to obtain from these patients. Résumé L’objectif de cette étude est de mettre à l’épreuve l’utilisation de la thérapie EMDR – eye movement desensitization and reprocessing – dans le traitement du syndrome du sein fantôme. Deux patientes ont été traitées avec la thérapie EMDR. Des évaluations quantitatives ont été réalisées avant la première séance, après la dernière séance et en suivi à trois et six mois, à travers l’intensité de la douleur et l’intensité de la sensation du ou des seins, mais également à l’aide de l’échelle STAI pour l’évaluation de l’anxiété et l’échelle CES-D pour les affects dépressifs. Des évaluations qualitatives viennent compléter ces mesures, à travers la réalisation de dessins et de coloriages de l’image des seins. La thérapie EMDR montre son efficacité à travers la diminution de toutes les mesures quantitatives effectuées, mais également un changement qualitatif et clinique dénotant une modification du schéma corporel des patientes et une diminution notable du syndrome du sein fantôme. Résumé: L’objectif de cette contribution sera de tester l’efficacité d’une nouvelle forme de prise en charge précoce des conséquences de viol. Issue d’une intégration de plusieurs protocoles EMDR d’urgence comme le Recent Traumatic Episode Protocol (R-TEP) de Shapiro (2009) et Modifed Abridged EMDR Protocol de Kutz et al. (2008), et inspiré par la pratique du débriefing psychologique, nous avons pris en charge sur la base d’une seule séance 17 femmes victimes de viols et prises en charge dans les 24 à 78heures après leur agression. Suivies après quatre semaines, puis après six mois, nous avons mesuré les effets de ce suivi psychologique sur la symptomatologie post-traumatique, la détresse psychologique, ainsi que sur certains indicateurs de la sexualité de ces femmes victimes, en référence à leur sexualité antérieure. Les résultats obtenus montrent qu’en une séance on assiste à une réduction intéressante des différentes mesures qui se révèle stable quatre semaines et six mois après la prise en charge, de la même manière que la sexualité semble réinvestie par les victimes. Si ce type d’intervention d’urgence ne se substitue en rien à une psychothérapie plus approfondie, sa contribution et sa pertinence dans le cadre d’une prise en charge immédiate ouvrent des perspectives intéressantes pour la prise en charge des victimes d’agressions sexuelles.
