In 2017, the Canadian Parks Council Climate Change Working Group, a team of federal, provincial, and territorial representatives, developed a Climate Change Adaptation Framework for Parks and Protected Areas, guiding practitioners through a simple, effective five-step adaptation process. This framework was adapted by Parks Canada into a two-day adaptation workshop approach, with 11 workshops subsequently held from September 2017 to May 2019 at Parks Canada sites in the Yukon, Quebec, Manitoba, Alberta, Nova Scotia, British Columbia, Newfoundland, and Ontario. Lessons learned from each workshop have been integrated into the approach, with the development of tools and guidance for each phase of the process, and a shareable, visual "placemat" that describes each step of the framework, acting as a map for those navigating the process. Bryophytes and lichens in the Old Annapolis Road Nature Reserve were surveyed, and 252 taxa in 131 genera are reported. This includes 37 liverworts, 86 mosses, and 129 lichens and allied fungi. Five species (one lichen, two liverworts, and two mosses) have a provincial conservation status rank between S1 and S3 (critically imperilled to vulnerable). Two lichen species are new to Nova Scotia, Arthonia caudata and Micarea misella. All species are new records for the reserve. The globally significant Caucasus hotspot of biological diversity holds a rich and largely endemic fauna of land molluscs. Georgia holds the majority of these regional endemics. Land molluscs are particularly sensitive indicators of habitat quality and faunal diversity. In this study, we examine the extent to which the existing network of protected areas (PAs) within Georgia captures the hotspots of endemic molluscan diversity. We collected and mapped the records of Georgian and Caucasian endemic species onto a 20 × 20 km2 UTM grid to identify the most important endemic areas in Georgia. We related these to the existing network of PAs. Less than half of the richest grid cells included significant PAs. Although those endemics with the smallest known ranges were better protected than the remainder, the incomplete state of knowledge means that our estimates of existing protection are surely optimistic. To date, the designation of PAs in Georgia has not used distributional data for invertebrates, although elsewhere they have been shown to be an effective aid to planning and management for conservation. Further surveys of molluscs and their monitoring in existing PAs can and should inform a systematic conservation strategy in Georgia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
