Simple Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the outcomes and prognostic factors for multicentric lymphoma in 38 small breed dogs (weighing under 15 kg) treated with combination chemotherapy with vincristine, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, and prednisolone between January 2014 and May 2020. Significant factors for longer mean survival time in the complete remission group included being under 10 years old, no cardiovascular heart disease, and no prior hospitalization due to chemotherapy side effects. These results will help confirm the clinical characteristics and outcomes in small breed dogs with lymphoma and provide insights into the most effective treatments and prognosis for these animals. Lymphoma is one of the most common malignant tumors in dogs. Combination chemotherapy with vincristine, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, and prednisolone (CHOP) is the most effective treatment for multicentric lymphoma. Previous studies have evaluated the response of large dogs to CHOP treatment and identified prognostic factors; however, studies on small dogs are lacking. In this study, we investigated the outcomes and prognostic factors for small dogs with multicentric lymphoma treated with CHOP. The responses of patients to CHOP treatment were assessed, and 54.3% were evaluated as being in complete remission (CR), 31.4% in partial remission (PR), and 14.3% in no remission (NR). The overall response rate was 85.7%. The median survival times for CR, PR, and NR patients were 683 days (85–1496 days), 241 days (15–777 days), and 119 days (61–308 days), respectively. Among the CR patients, survival was longer under the following conditions: age under 10 years (p = 0.011), no cardiovascular heart disease (p = 0.046), and no history of hospitalization due to side effects from chemotherapy (p = 0.002). Objectives: To evaluate prognostic factors in pT1b renal cell carcinoma (RCC) patients for which no specific studies have been conducted on. Methods: The data of 270 patients diagnosed with pT1bN0M0 RCC at 2 institutions between January 1998 and June 2010 were retrospectively analyzed. Univariate and multivariate analyses using Cox proportional hazard models were used to identify pathologic and clinical factors that influenced prognosis. Five-year recurrence-free survival and cancer-specific survival were analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method. Results: The median follow-up period was 55.5 months, and the mean patient age was 55.2 years (range: 26-80). There were 12 cancer-related deaths, and tumor recurrence was noted in 22 patients between 8 and 120 months after surgery. Sites of metastases included the lung in 13 patients, bone in 5 patients, and other sites in 4 patients. Five-year recurrence-free survival and cancer-specific survival rates were 91.2 and 93.5%, respectively. Multivariate analyses revealed that the presence of microvascular invasion and tumor necrosis independently predicted prognosis. Conclusions: Microvascular invasion and tumor necrosis were found to be independent prognostic factors in pT1b RCC. This result will help urologists to provide patients with more accurate prognoses, and patients with confirmed microvascular invasion and tumor necrosis will require closer follow-up. © 2014 S. Summary Background In children with antenatally detected hydronephrosis caused by ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) stenosis, the main challenge is preserving renal function by identifying children who require early surgical intervention from those for whom watchful waiting may be appropriate because of the potential for spontaneous resolution without a significant loss of renal function. Objective To assess the impact of initial cortical transit time (CTT) on technetium-99m mercaptoacetyltriglycerine (MAG3) diuretic renogram on the need for surgery in children with antenatally detected unilateral hydronephrosis caused by UPJ stenosis. Study design We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 33 patients with antenatally detected unilateral hydronephrosis caused by UPJ stenosis who were managed at our institution between 2006 and 2014. Delayed CTT was defined as the absence of activity in the subcortical structures within 3 min of tracer injection on a MAG3 scan. The surgical indication includes symptomatic UPJ stenosis, seriously deteriorating hydronephrosis with parenchymal thinning on serial USG, split renal function <40%, or progressive deterioration of split renal function (>5%) on a MAG3 scan. This study analyzed and compared the initial level of Society for Fetal Urology grade, anteroposterior diameter (APD), split renal function, drainage pattern on a diuretic renogram, and CTT with the need for surgery. Results Of the 33 children, 16 were classified into the delayed CTT group and 17 were placed in the normal CTT group. During the follow-up period (mean 31.8 months), surgery was needed in 75.0% (12/16) of patients in the delayed CTT group and in 5.9% (1/17) of those in the normal CTT group. Multivariate analysis showed that delayed CTT on initial MAG3 scan and APD on initial ultrasonography were independent predictive factors of the need for surgery. Discussion In this era of conservative management of antenatally detected hydronephrosis caused by UPJ stenosis, it is critical to identify which measurement on an image study is the most reliable for predicting the need for surgery by reflecting functional deterioration. In this study, multivariate analysis revealed that CTT on the initial MAG3 scan was an independent predictive factor of the need for surgery. In addition, CTT showed high negative predictive value for surgical need in children with antenatally detected unilateral hydronephrosis caused by UPJ stenosis. Conclusion CTT on an initial MAG3 scan may be a useful predictor of the need for surgery in children with antenatally detected unilateral hydronephrosis caused by UPJ stenosis. Purpose: This study aims to evaluate whether preoperative serum albumin-to-globulin ratio (AGR) could predict the prognosis of patients with urothelial bladder cancer (UBC) after radical cystectomy (RC).Materials and Methods: A total of 176 patients with UBC who underwent RC in a tertiary hospital between 2008 and 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. The AGR was calculated as albumin/(total protein - albumin). In addition, the AGR was divided into two groups for the time-dependent receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis. Survival was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier analysis and compared using the log-rank test. Cox proportional- hazards models were used for multivariate survival analysis.Results: The best cutoff AGR value for metastasis prediction was 1.32 based on the ROC curve analysis. Patients who had lower pretreatment AGR (<1.32) values composed the low-AGR group (n = 57; 32.4%). On the other hand, the remaining patients (n = 119; 67.6%) composed the high-AGR group. The patients in the low-AGR group had more advanced stage tumors compared with the patients in the high-AGR group. The Kaplan-Meier curves revealed that the patients in the low-AGR group had significantly lower rates of metastasis-free survival (MFS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS). The multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that preoperative AGR was an independent prognostic factor for MFS and CSS.Conclusion: In this single-institution retrospective study, lower preoperative AGR values demonstrated a poor prognostic effect on MFS and CSS in patients with UBC who underwent RC.
