In this study, the mixture of NaOH and deep eutectic solvent (DES) ChCl:UA-TA was firstly used to pretreat waste tomato stalk (TS). The effects of pretreatment time, pretreatment temperature, NaOH dosage, and DES dose were investigated, and the synergistic effects of dilute NaOH and DES combination pretreatment were tested on the influence of enzymatic saccharification. It was found that the relationship between delignification and saccharification rate had a significant linear correction. When TS was pretreated with NaOH (7 wt%)–ChCl:UA-TA (8 wt%) in a solid-to-liquid ratio of 1:10 (wt:wt) at 75 °C for 60 min, the delignification reached 82.1%. The highest yield of reducing sugars from NaOH–ChCl:UA-TA-treated TS could reach 62.5% in an acetate buffer (50 mM, pH 4.8) system containing cellulase (10.0 FPU/g TS) and xylanase (30.0 CBU/g TS) at 50 °C. In summary, effective enzymatic saccharification of TS was developed by a combination pretreatment with dilute NaOH and ChCl:UA-TA, which has potential application in the future. Deep eutectic solvent (DES) pretreatment plays an indispensable role in destroying the natural anti-degradation barrier structure of lignocellulose. Here, the cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and glycerol were used to synthesize novel DES and introduced to the pretreatment process to facilitate the enzymatic hydrolysis efficiency of rape straw (RS). The results showed that the delignification and xylan removal could extremely reach 46.1% and 52.7% under optimal conditions (molar ratio of 1:6, 200 °C, 90 min), respectively. It also resulted in 171.4 mg/g higher accessibility, 7.2% higher crystallinity, and 122.3 m2/g lower lignin surface area in RS concerning morphological changes of deconstructed and porous cell wall structure. Ultimately, the reducing sugar yield of RS was increased from 27.4% to 67.9% after pretreatment with this type of DES. This study exploited a novel DES for facilely reducing the recalcitrance of lignocellulose and a promising process for efficient saccharification using renewable biomass. To decrease alkaline dosage and increase the enzymatic saccharification of sugarcane bagasse (SB), dilute mixed alkali salts soaking (0.5% K 2 CO 3 , 0.068% K 2 SO 3 ) in an autoclave at 100–125 °C for 10–60 min was attempted to pretreat SB. The increased pretreatment severity at elevated temperatures resulted in the increase of delignification and enzymatic saccharification. It was found the optimum pretreatment temperature and pretreatment time were 120 °C for 40 min. Furthermore, FTIR, XRD and SEM characterized the porosity, morphology, and crystallinity changes of the pretreated SB samples. After the enzymatic in situ saccharification of 50 g/L SB in dilute K 2 CO 3 /K 2 SO 3 (0.35% K 2 CO 3 , 0.048% K 2 SO 3 ) media for 72 h, the reducing sugars and glucose could be obtained at 32.94 and 20.18 g/L, respectively. Finally, the SB-hydrolysates containing 20 g/L glucose were used for ethanol fermentation in the presence of dilute alkali salts. After 48 h, the ethanol yield was 0.394 g ethanol/g glucose, which represents 77.25% of the theoretical yield. In conclusion, an effective process about the biomass pretreatment, enzymatic saccharification and ethanol fermentation was successfully demonstrated in “one-pot” media containing low loading of alkali salts K 2 CO 3 /K 2 SO 3 . Pretreatment of bamboo shoot shell (BSS) by a combination of alkalic salts with hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) was evaluated for its delignification effect and for its ability to enhance enzymatic saccharification of pretreated solids. By comparing different alkalic salts, the combination of 9% Na 3 PO 4 ·12H 2 O and 0.3 g/g H 2 O 2 (ASHP) was identified as an effective system that showed the highest delignification of 87.7% and the total reducing sugar yield of 97.1% when pretreated BSS at a solid to liquid ratio of 1/20 (w/w) at 80 °C for 2 h. The delignification effect and the disruption of the lignocelluloses structure by this novel pretreatment method were deduced to be the main reasons that led to enhanced enzymatic saccharification as supported by the chemical composition analysis and the results of SEM, FTIR and XRD analyses of the untreated and alkalic salt pretreated BSS.
