Objective: To assess and compare alterations in the morphology and function of platelets occurring in gestational diabetes and healthy pregnancies. Material and Methods: A retrospective study was performed of 77 pregnant women: 42 cases with gestational diabetes and 35 healthy controls. The two groups were compared in terms of demographics and platelet parameters derived from complete blood counts. Results: The mean platelet volume (p=0.001) and HbA1c (p<0.001) were significantly increased in the patients with gestational diabetes. The mean platelet volume was well correlated with the platelet distribution width (rs=0.404, p<0.001) and the platelet count (rs=0.355, p=0.002) Conclusion: The mean platelet volume and other platelet parameters may significantly aid the identification of diabetic pregnants at risk for vascular complications. The role and possible clinical relevance of these changes during diabetic pregnancy need to be investigated in further studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: In the present study, we investigated the demographic, clinical, laboratory, birth information, treatment method and maternal-fetal outcomes of pregnant patients who were diagnosed with chronic immune thrombocytopenic purpura. Methods: Hospital records of 24 women with the diagnosis of chronic immune thrombocytopenic purpura and their 26 pregnancies in the obstetrics department were retrospectively analyzed. Results: All the patients had immune trobositopenik purpura diagnosed before pregnancy. The mean age of the cases was 29.50±7.03 years (17-42), mean parity was 2.88±2.86 (0-10), mean gestational age was 36.00±3.40 weeks (27-39), respectively. The cases were admitted to our clinic with causes including the beginning of birth pains (65%), preterm labor (15%), premature rupture of membranes (4%), mort fetus (4%), headache (4%), abruptio placentae (4%), gestational hypertension (4%) and intrauterine growth restriction (4%). Although 15 (57.6%) patients were treated prednisolone during pregnancy, others did not receive any treatment. The mean platelet counts of patients before and after delivery were 62,226±38.04/mm3 and 70,061±22.93/mm3, respectively. Ten cases (40%) with the mean platelet counts 28,240/mm3 received treatments containing platelet apheresis, fresh frozen plasma, random platelets or combined treatments in order to increase the platelet count. Eleven cases (42%) were born vaginally and 15 (58%) by cesarean. The birth with cesarean section was performed according to obstetric causes in fourteen cases (93%). None of the patients experienced postpartum complications. The mean platelet count of newborn babies was 201,521±95.46/mm3 (range, 35,900-446,000) and none of them experienced hemorrhagic complication. Conclusion: Although women with immune thrombocytopenic purpura carry the risk in pregnancy, birth and after birth, maternal and fetal outcomes are better than expected by appropriate treatment. Objective: The purpose of this study is to evaluate selective fetoreduction in two twin pregnancies which have one of abnormalities Case: 28 and 34 years old two patients have 18 and 16 weeks gestation and one of abnormal sibling, respectively. Vertebral anomaly and oligohydramnios were found in the first case, and the encephalocele was found in the second case. Transabdominal ultrasound guided selective fetoreduction was performed in both anomaly fetuses, and no complications were occurred in early period. Preterm labor was occurred in both cases at 32 and 35 weeks of gestation. The first case was delivered vaginally, and the second case due to previous cesarean section was delivered abdominally. The babies were 1700 g and 2400 g, respectively. There was not found a problem in infants in the first 3 months of postpartum period. Conclusion: Due to potential risks of multiple pregnancies for mother and fetus, we think that selective fetoreduction is useful for the anomalous one of sibling twin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: We aimed to retrospectively analyze the cases of partial and complete hydatidiform mole in our clinic. Methods: In the present study, hospital records of 89 patients with gestational trophoblastic disease between January 2015 and January 2018 was obtained and evaluated, retrospectively. A total of 89 patients' records were examined. Patients were divided into two groups; 76 patients with complete molar and 13 patients with partial molar pregnancies. Age, gravida, parity, abortus, blood groups, β-HCG, ß-HCG values before vacuum curettage, serum thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), free thyroxine (T4) and free triiodothyronine (T3) values, and histopathological findings of the patients were recorded from the existing records. Results: The total number of births was 3,927 between January 2015 and January 2018. The incidence of gestational trophoblastic disease was 22.6/1000 births. When the age distribution of the women included in the study was examined; the mean age was found as 29.55 ± 9.79 years. In the study, the mean values of beta HCG were 229082 ± 354929.69 mIU / ml and 258017.47±379942 mIU/ml in patients diagnosed with partial mole and complete mole, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of beta HCG values (p = 0.784). When thyroid function tests of the cases were examined, it was found that 13.4% (12) had hyperthyroidism. In accordance with the histopathological results vacuum-curettage materials of the patients, it was observed that 85.4% (76) of the cases were complete mole and 14.6% (13) were partial mole. Conclusion: Thyroid function tests were influenced in view of examinations and treatments in molar pregnancy cases. In these cases, it is required to evaluate thyroid function tests before anesthesia. Patients should be informed about performing β-hCG follow-ups after curettage and it should be explained that if there is no follow-up, life risk may occur. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: H1N1 Influenza made a great impact a worldwide, as well as in Turkey, in 2009. Clinical experiences have shown that it had a more serious prognosis in pregnant women. In this report, we summarize the cases of 16 pregnant women with H1N1 Influenza. Methodology: The study included 16 pregnant women hospitalized in Dicle University Hospital with complaints of fever, sore throat, cough and myalgia between October and December 2009. The diagnosis of pandemic H1N1 Influenza was confirmed on nasopharyngeal specimens using real-time reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in all patients. Patients who had the same complaints but were not diagnosed as H1N1 Influenza were excluded. The epidemiological, clinical, diagnostic, and outcome features of the patients were recorded. Results: The median age of the patients was 27 years (range 18-41 years). The mean gestational age was 25.4 weeks (range 5-38 weeks). Two cases were twin pregnancy. Two cases had co-morbid diseases including asthma and anemia. The most frequent admission symptoms were fever in 13 cases (81%), cough in 12 cases (75%) and dyspnea in 6 cases (37,5%). Antiviral treatment (oseltamivir 75 mg p.o. bid) was applied in 15 cases. Four cases needed intensive care monitoring and two of them died (12.5%) because of severe respiratory insufficiency. Conclusion: Patients with late gestational age, the presence of co-morbid disease, and multiple pregnancy have poor prognosis. Immediate intervention with antiviral treatment is associated with reduced severity of the disease and duration of hospital stay. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
