The present study describes two endogean carabid species of Typhlocharis Dieck, Typhlocharis rochapitei n. sp. and Typhlocharis crespoi n. sp., belonging to the T. diecki species group and to the T. outereloi species group, respectively. The work provides diagnostic characters and in particular, the structure of male genitalia. Affinities to putative relatives and keys for the identification of the diecki (all species) and outereloi (Portugal) species groups are also given.Se describen dos nuevas especies de carábidos Anillini endogeos (Coleoptera: Carabidae) de Portugal, Typhlocharis rochapitei n. sp. y Typhlocharis crespoi n. sp., pertencientes a los grupos diecki y outereloi, respectivamente. Two endogean carabid species of Typhlocharis Dieck, 1869 in the T. silvanoides species group are described, Typhlocharis carinata n. sp. and Typhlocharis paulinoi n. sp. T. carinata is characterized by the elytron with four discal setae and one subapical seta, the abdominal sternum II with a median carina, more developed near the posterior margin, stronger in male than in female, the median lobe of aedeagus strongly sickle–shaped and the parameres bisetulose, each with a large apical seta and a short sub–apical seta. T. paulinoi is characterized by the elytron with three discal setae and one subapical seta, the abdominal female sterna II and III without any fovea, the internal sac of median lobe in central area very difuse with one lateral sclerite and the right paramere bisetulose, with a large apical seta and a short sub–apical seta. Affinities to putative relatives and a key for the identification of the seven known species belonging to the silvanoides group are also given., Se describen dos nuevas especies de carábidos endogeos de Typhlocharis Dieck,1869, del grupo de especies T. silvanoides: Typhlocharis carinata n. sp. y Typhlocharis paulinoi n. sp. T. carinata se caracteriza por sus élitros con cuatro sedas discales y una seta subapical, el esternito abdominal II con una carena media, más desarrollada cerca del margen posterior, más fuerte en el macho que en la hembra, el lóbulo medio del edeago más falciforme, y los parámeros bisetulados, cada uno de ellos con una seda apical grande y una seda subapical corta. T. paulinoi se caracteriza por sus élitros con tres sedas discales y una seda subapical, los esternitos abdominales femeninos II y III sin fóvea alguna, el saco interno del lóbulo medio de la zona central muy difuso, con un esclerito lateral y el parámero derecho bisetulado, con una seda apical grande y una seda subapical corta. También se tratan las afinidades con especies supuestamente emparentadas y se da una clave de identificación de las siete especies conocidas del grupo silvanoides.

Three endogean carabid species (Coleoptera: Carabidae, Anillini) from Portugal, Geocharis fermini n. sp., Geocharis bivari n. sp. and Geocharis quartaui n. sp. are described. The work provides diagnostic characters of these species, and in particular, the structure of male genitalia. Affinities with closely related species are discussed and ecological data are also included. Faunistic notes on Geocharis olisipensis (Schatzmayr, 1937) and a key for the identification of the species occurring in Portugal north of the Tajo River are also given.Se describen tres nuevas especies de carábidos Anillini endogeos (Coleoptera: Carabidae) de Portugal: Geocharis fermini n. sp., Geocharis bivari n. sp. y Geocharis quartaui n. sp. Nesta comunicação, vamos descrever a situação portuguesa à luz do modelo de Intervenção Precoce Baseada nas Rotinas. Após uma breve descrição da situação legal e da prática (com base nos estudos disponíveis), apresentaremos os resultados de uma formação desenhada com o objetivo de melhorar os objetivos dos Planos de Intervenção através da Entrevista Baseada nas Rotinas (EBR; McWilliam, 2010). Os resultados sustentam a validade social da formação, a sua eficácia na promoção da qualidade dos objetivos e a importância da EBR enquanto moderador dos resultados da formação. An attempt to obtain a consistent spatial model of natural potential vegetation (NPV) for the mainland Portuguese territory is reported. Spatial modeling procedures performed in a Geographic Information System (GIS) environment, aimed to operationalize phytosociological expert-knowledge about the putative distribution of potential zona1 forest communities dominam in the Portuguese continental territories. The paradigm for NPV assumed was that of RIVAS-MARTINE(1Z9 76) and RIVAS-MARTINEeZt al. (1999), which presupposes, for a given territory, a univocal correspondence between a uniform combination of bioclimatic stage and lithology' gi ven a biogeographical context, and a unique successional sequence leading to a single climax community (i. e. a vegetation series (VS)). Information issued from both literature and a team of phytosociologists possessing detailed knowledge about Portuguese vegetation, namely about forests and its seria1 vegetation, was acknowledged as a starting point for the construction of such a habitat-vegetation correspondence model. First, a bioclimatic map concerning the "Worldwide Bioclimatic Classification System" (WBCS) of RIVAS-MARTINE(1Z9 81 -2004), obtained by multivariate grostatistical interpolation issuing from the work of MESQUITA(2 005), was set. Severa1 partia1 matrices, one for each biogeographical Province, combined such habitat statements to VS. Initial incoherence due to vagueness of statements led to an important amount of both superimposition of VS and habitat gaps in the matrices. Further rearrangement of the table according to known field distribution of VS by experts allowed setting an approximate univocal correspondence VS-habitat. Finally, an intersection of bioclimatic, lithology and biogeographic maps yielded over a thousand habitat combinations to be associated each to a single VS through implementation of the matrices as a set of rules. Again, inconsistencies were solved likewise, but this time by direct observation of the map by experts. Keeping of phytosociological consistency and fidelity to information on actual vegetation field distribution was always mandatory during the process

A succinct review of the application of the Habitats Directive in Portugal is presented. Since 1971 until 2000 Portugal has defined approximately 8,8% of its territory as national protected areas. With the application of the Habitats Directive nature conservation policies extended to more than 17,4 % of the territory increasing by 98% and the knowledge on vegetation community’s habitats was certainly deepened. Including special protection areas (Birds Directive) the Portuguese territory under one or more conservation status totals 21,5%. Finally, the support given by the Portuguese Phytosociology Association – ALFA in the detailed description of the Directive habitats is divulged, showing the importance, usefulness and efficacy of phytosociologic studies, Applicazione della Direttiva Habitat in Portogallo. Viene presentata una succinta revisione dell’applicazione della Direttiva Habitat in Portogallo. Tra il 1971 e il 2000 il Portogallo ha definito come aree nazionali protette circa l’8,8% del suo territorio. L’applicazione della Direttiva Habitat ha significato un aumento del 98% delle aree sottoposte a protezione legale, raggiungendo il 17,4% circa del territorio e un approfondimento della conoscenza degli habitat delle comunità vegetali. Includendo le zone speciale di protezione (Direttiva Uccelli) si totalizza il 21,5%. Nelle conclusioni si evidenzia il ruolo della Associazione Portoghese di Fitosociologia (ALFA) nella descrizione dettagliata degli habitat della Direttiva, dimostrando l’importanza, l’utilitá e l’efficacia degli studi fitosociologici.

Several specific and infraspecific taxa with different occurrences in the continental portuguese area are referred in the present work. In the light of these behaviours, the climatic and geomorphological variability of the North of Portugal has been important environmental factors to explain the floristic diversity in this part of the country. In this case, the taxa analysed are Teucrium salviastrum Trigonella polyceratia subsp. amandiana, Ononis viscosa subsp. breviflora var. breviflora, Ononis viscosa subsp. pedroi, Digitalis amandiana, Myosotis welwistchii and Myosotis secunda. Because of the appropriate management of the floristic richness, a multivariate statistic routine is applied on a Geographical Informatic System (GIS) the chorological, geomorphological and climatic characterization for each one are described in this paper. The geological substrate and the altitudinal classes are focused for the geomorphological approach, as well as two biogeographic classifications are used to correlate the occurrence of the taxa and their bioclimatic preferences. In the light of this analytical scheme, every taxa is geo-referenced upon an environmental cartography (elaborated by the Instituto para a Conservação da Naturaza). The results obtained are pointing out the floristic progressive differentiation between the atlantic bioclimatic influence and the mediterranean one, both bioclimatic influences decisive to understand the floristic behaviour of the North of Portugal. En el presente trabajo se hace mención a diferentes taxones específicos e infraespecíficos con distribuciones diversas en el territorio portugués continental. En este sentido, la intensa variabilidad geomorfológica y la intrincada bioclimatología del Norte de Portugal constituyen, ambos, factores ambientales decisivos para comprender el comportamiento florístico de esta parte del país. Los taxones analizados en esta aportación son: Teucrium salviastrum Trigonella polyceratia subsp. amandiana, Ononis viscosa subsp. breviflora var. breviflora, Ononis viscosa subsp. pedroi, Digitalis amandiana, Myosotis welwistchii y Myosotis secunda. De modo a poder contribuir eficientemente en la gestión de la riqueza florística, se procede a la aplicación de una rutina programática multivariada, basada en un sistema de información geográfico (SIG), a partir del cual cada uno de los taxones estudiados es georeferenciado sobre cartografía ambiental (confeccionada y publicada por el Instituto para a Conservação da Naturaza, del Ministerio del Ambiente portugués). Los resultados obtenidos confirman el efecto gradual de transición entre el área de influencia bioclimática atlántica y la mediterránea, ambas determinantes para comprender el comportamiento florístico del Norte de Portugal.
