Simple Summary: Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) has been used as a supplement for skin nourishment, hair growth promotion, and hair quality improvement. Myo-inositol (MI) plays a role in various physiological processes in animals. The aim of this study is to assess the effects of MSM and MI as feed additives on the hair quality of poodles. Compared to the control, supplementation with MSM and MI decreased scale thickness, increased the contents of hair sulfur, and regulated gut microbiota and fecal metabolites. In conclusion, MSM and MI enhanced hair smoothness, suggesting potential benefits to fecal microbiota and the metabolic profiles of poodles. In conclusion, MSM and MI supplementation enhanced hair smoothness and appeared to positively influence fecal microbiota composition and metabolic profiles in poodles. This study aimed to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation with methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) and myo-inositol (MI) on hair quality, fecal microbiota, and metabolome in poodles. Thirty-two adult poodles categorized based on initial body weight and sex were randomly assigned to four groups. These groups (designated the CON, MSM, MI, and MSM + MI groups) received a basal diet, the same diet supplemented with 0.2% MSM + 0% MI, the same diet supplemented with 0% MSM + 0.2% MI, or the same diet supplemented with 0.2% MSM + 0.2% MI, respectively. The study lasted for 65 days. During the entire study period, body weight, average daily weight gain, feed intake, energy intake, and fecal output were normal in all the animals and did not differ significantly among the treatment groups. Hair scale thickness was lower in the MI and MSM + MI groups than in the CON group on Day 65 (p < 0.05). An amino acid analysis of the hair revealed higher sulfur content in the MI and MSM + MI groups on Day 65 than on Day 0 (p < 0.05). Moreover, the poodles in the MSM, MI, and MSM + MI groups presented significantly lower levels of Proteobacteria_unclassified and Candidatus Phytoplasma than did those in the CON group. The relative abundance of Gammaproteobacteria_unclassified was greater in the MSM and MI groups than in the CON group (p < 0.05). The MSM group presented a greater abundance of Glucerabacter than the CON group (p < 0.05). Compared with those in the CON and MSM + MI groups, the abundances of Paramuribaculum and Hafnia in the MSM group were greater (p < 0.05). The abundances of Enterobacter and Kineothrix were greater (p < 0.05) in the MI group than in the CON and MSM + MI groups. The poodles in the MI group presented significantly greater abundances of Bacteroidales_unclassified, Halanaerobium, Mycobacterium, and Erysipelotrichaceae_unclassified than did poodles in the CON, MSM, and MSM + MI groups. Fecal metabolomics analysis revealed that MSM, MI, and MSM + MI treatment markedly affected carbohydrate metabolism. MSM + MI treatment also influenced lipid metabolism. Myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) is a prevalent inherited mitral valve condition. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical manifestation of the cardiac condition MMVD in Poodles. Using ultrasonography (USG), this study examined the characteristics, progression, diagnosis, and treatment of MMVD in an 11-year-old Poodle. This case study was conducted at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, utilizing a Chison Ebit60 with an 8–12 MHz curvilinear probe. The dog was positioned in the right parasternal recumbency position, and the long axis (RPLA) and short axis (RPSA) views were obtained. In the evaluation and diagnosis, B-Mode, M-Mode, and Color Flow Doppler (CFD) modes of ultrasonography were performed. The dog presented with coughing, and the physical examination revealed a grade 3–4 murmur. Based on B-mode cardiac monitoring, sinus arrhythmia, mitral valve thickness, and prolapses indicate MMVD. Mitral regurgitation was indicated by a decrease in heart rate and an increase in the left ventricle internal dimension (LVIDd) on the M-mode. Meanwhile, CFD's representation of turbulent flow confirmed mitral regurgitation results. The rise in blood pressure confirmed the presence of hypertension. Class B2 MMVD in Poodles has consequently been diagnosed in this case.

From blood samples, biochemical parameter measurements were carried out. The values of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), ammonia and fasting serum bile acids were high and the blood urea nitrogen (BUN) value was low. Ultrasonographic examination, shunted vein in the liver to the vena cava caudalis, that is colour Doppler observed the extrahepatic shunt and turbulent flow in this shunted. Depending on clinical, laboratory (hemogram and biochemistry) and ultrasonographic observations, portosystemic shunt (PSS) was diagnosed and controlled one month after the treatment was recommended. The medical treatment included a hepatic formula diet (liver care), lactulose 0.5 ml/kg three times a day, metronidazole 15 mg/kg twice a day, S-adenosyl Methionine 15 mg/kg once a day, 400 international unite (IU) vitamin E once a day for 30 days. When turbulent flow is observed in the shunted vein in the liver to vena cava caudalis, ultrasound examination with color Doppler can help diagnose portosystemic shunt. After the treatment, clinical improvement was observed and clinical symptoms of hepatic encephalopathy including seizures and tremors, disappeared completely. Determination of turbulent flow with colour Doppler and decreased portal flow velocity with portal hypertension with PW-Doppler ultrasonography are important for the diagnosis of the portosystemic shunt. It was concluded that medical treatments might help before surgical treatments in portosystemic shunts.

Cheyletiellosis is a highly contagious infestation caused by Cheyletiella mites, particularly in pets. This clinical case report was performed to give information about canine cheyletiellosis in 45-days-old Poodle puppies showing mainly pruritus and dandruff symptoms. Mites were detected in stereo microscopic examination of hair and skin scraping samples collected from dogs brought to a private veterinary clinic in Kocaeli province of Turkey. All collected materials were preserved in eppendorf tubes containing 70% ethanol and sent to the parasitology laboratory for species identification. Mite preparations for microscopic examination were prepared, and the species causing infestations in puppies was identified as Cheyletiella yasguri. This case is the first canine cheyletiellosis report in Kocaeli province of Turkey, and also the first C. yasguri infestation in Poodle breed dogs in Turkey. Symptoms of pruritus and dandruff were successfully resolved in a short time with the single dose spot-on formulation of selamectin administration, as well as routine combing of puppies and environmental cleaning. The number of studies on C. yasguri, which can cause infestations in humans, is limited in Turkey. Considering the increase in human dermatitis cases caused by Cheyletiella species, it is concluded that more comprehensive studies on the prevalence of cheyletiellosis in pets are required. O complexo Lúpus Eritematoso (LE) é constituído por um conjunto de dermatopatias autoimunes que pode se manifestar em duas apresentações clinicas principais: o Lúpus Eritematoso Sistêmico (LES) e o Lúpus Eritematoso Discóide (LED). O diagnóstico clínico do LED muitas vezes é um desafio, devido à variedade de sintomas que pode ocorrer tanto no lúpus, como em outras patologias dermatológicas, fato este que interfere na rapidez do diagnóstico e consequentemente no tratamento e melhora do paciente. Este trabalho tem como objetivo relatar a importância do exame histopatológico no diagnóstico definitivo para o tratamento e prognóstico favorável de paciente canino, poodle com LED. Foi atendido na Policlínica veterinária metropolitana – HVM, um cão da raça poodle, com lesão em região do focinho tendo passado por tratamentos anteriores sem resultado aparente, foram feitos exames laboratoriais e citológico para que fossem descartadas outras dermatopatias. Após resultado inconclusivo na citologia, foi solicitado o histopatológico, para definição do diagnóstico exato e exclusão de outras dermatopatias. O histopatológico confirmou o diagnóstico de Lúpus Eritematoso Discóide. Foi instituído tratamento com corticosteroides na dose de 1,0mg/kg, vitaminas antioxidantes e protetor solar. Após 10 dias houve o aumento da dose para 2,5mg/kg, que é a dose imunossupressora. O animal apresentou resposta com diminuição da região crostosa da lesão em plano nasal.

The end to end encryption of connections over the internet have evolved from SSL to TLS 1.3 over the years. Attacks have exposed vulnerabilities on each upgraded version of the cryptographic protocols used to secure connections over the internet. Organisations have to keep updating their web-based applications to use the latest cryptographic protocol to ensure users are protected and feel comfortable using their web applications. But the problem is that, web applications are not always standalone systems, there is usually a maze of systems that are integrated to provide services to the end user. The interactions between these systems happens within the controlled internal private network environment of the organisation. While only the front ending web application is visible to the end user. It is not often feasible to upgrade all internal systems to use the latest cryptographic protocol for internal interfaces/integration due to prohibitive cost of redevelopment and upgrades to infra and systems. Here we define an algorithm to setup internal & external firewalls to downgrade to a lower version of the cryptographic protocol (SSL) within the internal network for the integration/interfacing connections of internal systems while mandating the latest cryptographic protocol (TLS 1.x) for end user connections to the web application. Eletrorretinograma (ERG) é um meio diagnóstico objetivo, não invasivo e capaz de avaliar a função retiniana, detectando precocemente, em diversas espécies, lesões nas camadas mais externas. Tem como uma das principais indicações a avaliação pré-cirúrgica em pacientes portadores de catarata. A determinação dos valores normais do ERG é indispensável quando se objetiva, pela mensuração dos valores, o auxílio no diagnóstico das degenerações retinianas, mesmo quando apresentam opacidade de meios (catarata). Este estudo teve como objetivo padronizar os valores das respostas do eletrorretinograma em cães da raça Poodle portadores de catarata madura ou hipermadura, submetidos ao mesmo protocolo de sedação, adaptação ao escuro e eletrodo, utilizando aparelho portátil BPM 200. Em todos os animais, o exame oftalmológico precedeu o ERG. Os animais foram separados em quatro grupos de acordo com a faixa etária: um a três anos (GI), quatro a sete anos (GII), oito a 11 anos (GIII) e 12 anos ou mais (GIV). Foram mensuradas a amplitude pico a pico (pico da onda-a até o pico da onda-b) e o tempo de culminação da onda-b na resposta de bastonetes, máxima resposta e resposta de cones. Cães com respostas atenuadas ou extintas foram excluídos deste trabalho. Observou-se diminuição das amplitudes das três respostas quando se comparou GI com os demais grupos. Houve aumento do tempo de culminação da onda-b na comparação da resposta de bastonetes de GI com os outros grupos. O tempo de culminação da onda-b na máxima resposta e resposta de cones manteve-se praticamente inalterado nos quatro grupos testados. Concluiu-se que houve alteração dependente de idade nos parâmetros eletrorretinográficos, com diminuição da amplitude na resposta de bastonetes, máxima resposta e resposta de cones, enquanto que, no tempo de culminação da onda-b, apenas a resposta de bastonetes foi estatisticamente significante nos animais submetidos ao mesmo protocolo na execução do ERG.Electroretinogram (ERG) is an objective and noninvasive diagnostic tool for the evaluation of retinal function, capable to detect early, lesions of the outermost layers in several species of animals. Peak-to-peak amplitude (peak of a-wave to peak of b-wave) and b-wave implicit time were measured in rod response and in maximal response and cone response. Dogs with decreased or absent responses were excluded from the study. GI presented decrease in amplitudes of the three responses and increase in b-wave implicit time of rod response when compared with the other groups. B-wave implicit times in maximal response and cone response were practically unaltered in all four groups. It was concluded that there was age-dependent changes in electroretinographic parameters, with decreased amplitudes in rod response, maximal response and cone response. Delay in b-wave implicit time was observed in rod response and unchanged in the two others tested responses of animals subjected to the same ERG protocol.

A 13-year-old neutered male Poodle dog was presented with a third eyelid mass in the left eye. The dog had undergone local resection of the mass about a year prior in a private practice. On cytological examination, the mass was diagnosed as adenocarcinoma. Although lung and lymph node metastases were suspected, based upon the computed tomographic results, exenteration was performed to relieve chronic pain and to improve the dog’s quality of life. Exenteration carried a good prognosis with no tumor recurrence until 1 year and 10 months after surgery, when local recurrence occurred near the left zygomatic arch. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of the present study was to establish normal electroretinogram (ERG) parameters using 56 normal eyes of four dog breeds common in Thailand: poodle, Labrador retriever, Thai ridgeback, and Thai Bangkaew. Standard ERG findings were bilaterally recorded using a handheld multi-species ERG unit with an ERG-jet lens electrode for 28 dogs under preanesthesia with diazepam, anesthesia with propofol, and anesthesia maintenance with isoflurane. There were significant differences in the mean values of ERG amplitudes and implicit times among the four dog breeds (p < 0.05) except for the b-wave implicit time of the photopic 30 Hz flicker response with 3 cd.s/m² (p = 0.610). Out of the four breeds, Thai Bangkaew had the longest implicit time (p < 0.001) of scotopic low intensity responses, b-wave of scotopic standard intensity responses (3 cd.s/m²), a-wave of the higher intensity response (10 cd.s/m²), and a-wave of the photopic single flash response (3 cd.s/m²). For the b/a ratio, only the ratio of the Cone response was significantly different among the different breeds. In this summary, normal ERG parameters for four dog breeds were reported. Data from the investigation supported the hypothesis that determination of breed-specific limits of normality for ERG responses is necessary for individual clinics and laboratories. Progressive rod-cone degeneration (PRCD) is one of several groups of inherited progressive retinal atrophy in dogs. This study aims to describe the characterization of phenotypic appearance and demonstrate the responsible gene mutation, including analysis of the allele frequency of PRCD in Poodle dogs in Thailand. All 10 Poodles with clinical signs of PRCD were identified by a history of progressive vision loss, an abnormal obstacle test, and fundic appearance. Genetic testing of PRCD gene mutation using the Polymerase Chain Reaction and Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism technique was performed in all dogs. The result confirmed that all 10 dogs were affected. The affected Poodles had presented age at first examination at 8.9 ± 2.33 years. Typical findings of retinal changes were bilateral retinal degeneration with tapetal hyperreflectivity, retinal vessel attenuation and optic disc atrophy. The electroretinogram from 7 affected dogs revealed non-detectable wave amplitude and implicit time in the session of rod responses in all dogs whereas small wave amplitude of cone response was recorded in 4 dogs. Histopathological examination of an affected eye revealed the collapse of the nuclear and photoreceptor layers. A prevalence of carriers in 50 Poodles was 12% while the allele frequency of mutant allele was 0.1 Gentis finding of PRCD in Poodles in Thailand corresponds to the previous reports whereas the age onset of dogs presented from this disease and the age at complete blindness are much later than previously reported. Para avaliação radiográfica da silhueta cardíaca têm sido propostos inúmeros métodos de mensuração com a finalidade de tentar diminuir a subjetividade da avaliação empírica. O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar o valor de VHS (vertebral heart size) em cães da raça Poodle, amplamente difundida em nosso meio, através do método de mensuração proposto por Buchanan e Bücheler¹. Foram selecionados trinta cães clinicamente normais, machos e fêmeas, com idades variando de um a seis anos. Os animais foram submetidos ao exame radiográfico do tórax nas projeções látero-lateral direita e ventro-dorsal. As radiografias foram avaliadas de forma empírica e posteriormente foram realizadas as medidas propostas por Buchanan e Bücheler¹ para a silhueta cardíaca e para a profundidade e largura do tórax. A avaliação empírica não demonstrou alterações radiográficas relevantes em vinte e um dos trinta cães (70%). 80% dos animais tiveram suas medidas de VHS menores ou iguais a 10,5 vértebras. Os valores de VHS obtidos apresentaram distribuição normal, com média de 10,12 vértebras e desvio padrão de 0,51, sendo o valor mínimo encontrado igual a 9,2 vértebras e o máximo igual a 11,1 vértebras. Os valores da razão profundidade pela largura do tórax também apresentaram distribuição normal, com média de 0,84 e desvio padrão de 0,09, sendo o valor mínimo encontrado igual a 0,64 e o máximo igual a 1,04. 40% dos cães tiveram valores de VHS superiores ao valor médio de 10,12 vértebras obtido neste trabalho o que sugere que esse valor seja rigoroso para ser utilizado como limite superior para essa raça. Para que 96,67% dos animais desse estudo tivessem valores de VHS considerados inferiores ao limite superior, esse deveria ser igual a 11 vértebras. Desta forma sugerimos com base nos dados observados nesta amostra, que o intervalo de 10,5 a 11,0v seja considerado como limite superior para cães da raça Poodle com razão de profundidade e largura do tórax de 0,84 (+ 0,09), já que observamos valor superior a 11,0v em apenas um animal.
