Increasing water pollution due to anthropogenic activities prompts the quest for an effective water treatment method. Polymeric materials have gained attention as adsorbents for water purification. Membranes are majorly made from homopolymeric materials. However, recent studies have focused on using copolymeric materials for improved performance. In this review, the basics of copolymerization including various types of copolymers, synthetic approaches, and their applications in various water pollutants removal are discussed in detail. Advances in water treatment technology using copolymeric materials as adsorbent/membranes in the last 4 years are covered with insights into the future outlook and areas of improvement in terms of copolymer composites for water treatment. Studies from the literature did not only reveal effectiveness of copolymer as a flocculant/antifouling materials and in removal of selective toxic metals, oil, and microbes but also demonstrated recyclability of the copolymer sorbents/membrane. Full exploration of unique copolymer textural and structural properties could lead to great advancement in water treatment process. Historically, the recording of information over paper has always been regarded as the most important factor for maintaining records of human activities and spreading civilization. The present work is focusing to formulate hydride paper polymer sheets (HPPSs) using two fluorescence dyes (4-(2,6-diphenylpyridin-4-yl)-N,N-dimethylaniline) (F1) and (4-(2,6-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)pyridin-4-yl)-N,N-dimethylaniline) (F2) for the production of secure hybrid paper polymer sheets each with a different concentration. Mechanical properties, including tensile strength (MPa), Young's modulus (MPa), elongation (mm), folding endurance, and tear resistance (mN m2/g), were determined. Furthermore, a topographical study was carried out using field emission scanning electron microscopes (FE-SEM). In comparison with native paper and polymer films, HPPSs demonstrated a significant improvement in mechanical properties. The fluorescence behavior of applied dyes was evaluated in both solution and solid states with UV–vis and photoluminescence (PL). The results confirmed that excitation of F1 and F2 dyes occurred at 393 nm and 448 nm and emission at 505 nm and 496 nm, respectively. Additionally, the third concentration (3% w/v) of both dyes was observed in solid state to achieve excellent resolution. In the first image, a note is shown under normal light, and in the second image, a picture is shown of the fluorescent security markings under UV light at 365 nm. Based on the results obtained, it is proven that the developed high stable as well as excellent mechanical security HPPSs can be used for paper-based information security due to their optical properties. Further, the density function theory (DFT) calculation was performed in order to identify the composition of the excited and ground states. In previous work, our group discovered a phenomenon in which a mixed polymer-salt or mixed micellar aqueous two-phase system (ATPS) separates into its two constituent phases as it flows within paper. While these ATPSs worked well in their respective studies to concentrate the target biomarker and improve the sensitivity of the lateral-flow immunoassay, different ATPSs can be advantageous for new applications based on factors such as biomarker partitioning or biochemical compatibility between ATPS and sample components. However, since the mechanism of phase separation in porous media is not completely understood, introducing other ATPSs to paper is an unpredictable process that relies on trial and error experiments. This is especially true for polymer-polymer ATPSs in which the characteristics of the two phases appear quite similar. Therefore, our group aimed to develop semiquantitative guidelines for choosing ATPSs that can phase separate in paper. In this work, we evaluated the Washburn equation and its parameters as a potential mathematical framework to describe the flow behavior of polymer-salt and micellar ATPSs in fiberglass paper. We compared bulk phase fluid characteristics and identified the viscosity difference between the phases as a key determinant of the potential for phase separation in paper. We then used this parameter to predict the phase separation capabilities of polyethylene glycol (PEG)-dextran ATPSs in paper and control the composition of the leading and lagging phases. We also, for the first time, successfully demonstrated the phase separation phenomenon in hydrogels, thereby extending its application and potential benefits to an alternative porous medium.

This article describes two cases in which the advantages of the ESEM have been exploited in unanticipated ways. First, we have found that etching occurs as the electron beam scans the surface of uncoated polymers in the ESEM. The surface topography caused by this etching, as seen in ESEM images, reflects the morphology of crystalline structures in the polymers. This technique has been valuable in the study of such textures in polymers. The second application is related to our use of the ESEM in support of research on the deinking of paper. In this effort we have learned that an unconventional contrast mechanism can be used during ESEM imaging to distinguish between inked and non-inked areas of newsprint. Under usual operating conditions, ESEM imaging does not distinguish between inked and non-inked areas. However, at relatively low sample chamber pressures the non-inked areas appear brighter than inked areas in ESEM images.

The development of new materials for use in advanced distribution transformers is required to improve their heat resistance rating, operational safety, and reliability. The combination of polymer and nanoparticles is the preferred approach to improve the thermal stability of materials. In this study, the thermal stability of laboratory-prepared meta-aramid insulation paper modified with polyphenylsilsesquioxane (PPSQ) was evaluated. The results showed that the thermal stability of the modified insulation paper was superior to that of the unmodified paper. Molecular dynamics simulations were used to analyse the internal mechanism of the performance improvement achieved by modification with PPSQ. From a microscopic perspective, the addition of PPSQ provided a relatively larger structural space for the meta-aramid fibre and increased the free volume of the entire system, which tightened the meta-aramid fibre molecular chains, increased the density of the structure of the paper, and enhanced the mutual permeability between meta-aramid fibre chains. Therefore, the stress can be better transmitted, the performance loss such as phase delamination was effectively prevented, and the bonding between the meta-aramid fibres was strengthened.

Inkjet-printed paper-based volatile organic compound (VOC) sensor strips imaged with polydiacetylenes (PDAs) are developed. A microemulsion ink containing bisurethane-substituted diacetylene (DA) monomers, 4BCMU, was inkjet printed onto paper using a conventional inkjet office printer. UV irradiation of the printed image allowed fabrication of blue-colored poly-4BCMU on the paper and the polymer was found to display colorimetric responses to VOCs. Interestingly, a blue-to-yellow color change was observed when the strip was exposed to chloroform vapor, which was accompanied by the generation of green fluorescence. Conventional migration testing for long-term storage at ambient temperature with Tenax® was applied to a recycled paperboard as well as to the same paperboard with a polyethylene or polypropylene film in between. Test conditions were from the European Union plastic Regulation 10/2011, that is, 10 days at 60°C, but previous standard conditions of 10 days at 40°C were also applied. The results were compared with the migration into real packs made of the same packaging material containing six test foods and stored over 9 months. For the direct contact, simulation at 60°C overestimated the maximum migration of the saturated hydrocarbons in the real packs by 73%. Simulation reflected hardly any effect by the plastic films and resulted in an overestimation of the maximum migration into the real packs by a factor of 5.1 and 27 for the polyethylene and the polypropylene film, respectively. Analogous simulation was performed with polenta (corn semolina) instead of Tenax®. Three main causes for this deviation were identified: (i) at 60°C, migration reached beyond n-C₃₅, whereas it ends at about n-C₂₄ in reality. (ii) Tenax® is a far stronger adsorbent than foods, resulting in almost complete extraction. (iii) The significant barrier effect of polypropylene films at ambient temperature is lost at increased temperature. The suitability of such simulation for the prediction of long-term migration is questioned.

A ternary hierarchical hybrid Ni@Co x S y /poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-reduced graphene oxide (Ni@Co x S y /PEDOT-rGO) is rationally designed and in situ facilely synthesized as electrocatalyst to construct a binder-free sensing platform for non-enzymatic glucose monitoring through traditional electrodeposition procedure. The as-prepared Ni@Co x S y /PEDOT-rGO presents unique hierarchical structure and multiple valence states as well as strong and robust adhesion between Ni@Co x S y /PEDOT-rGO and GCE. Profiting from the aforementioned merits, the sensing platform constructed under optimal conditions achieved a wide detection range (0.2 μM ~ 2.0 mM) with high sensitivity (1546.32 μA cm -2  mM -1 ), a rapid response time (5 s), an ultralow detection limit (0.094 μM), superior anti-interference performance, excellent reproducibility and considerable stability. Furthermore, the sensor demonstrates an acceptable accuracy and appreciable recoveries ranging from 90.0 to 102.0% with less than 3.98% RSD in human blood serum samples, indicating the prospect of the sensor for the real samples analysis. This review focuses on one of the most exciting applications area of conjugated conducting polymers, which is tissue engineering. Strategies used for the biocompatibility improvement of this class of polymers (including biomolecules' entrapment or covalent grafting) and also the integrated novel technologies for smart scaffolds generation such as micropatterning, electrospinning, self-assembling are emphasized. These processing alternatives afford the electroconducting polymers nanostructures, the most appropriate forms of the materials that closely mimic the critical features of the natural extracellular matrix. Due to their capability to electronically control a range of physical and chemical properties, conducting polymers such as polyaniline, polypyrrole, and polythiophene and/or their derivatives and composites provide compatible substrates which promote cell growth, adhesion, and proliferation at the polymer-tissue interface through electrical stimulation. The activities of different types of cells on these materials are also presented in detail. Specific cell responses depend on polymers surface characteristics like roughness, surface free energy, topography, chemistry, charge, and other properties as electrical conductivity or mechanical actuation, which depend on the employed synthesis conditions. The biological functions of cells can be dramatically enhanced by biomaterials with controlled organizations at the nanometer scale and in the case of conducting polymers, by the electrical stimulation. The advantages of using biocompatible nanostructures of conducting polymers (nanofibers, nanotubes, nanoparticles, and nanofilaments) in tissue engineering are also highlighted.

Cellulose has received much attention as a emerging smart material, named as electro-active paper (EAPap), which can produce a large bending displacement with applied external electrical field. In spite of many advantages over other reported electro active polymers, there are some issues to be addressed: its actuator performance: (i) sensitive to environmental humidity, (ii) humidity dependent displacement output of the actuator and (iii) degradation of performance with time. In present paper, we have successfully developed the highly durable EAPap actuator working at ambient condition with large displacement output. To improve the performance and durability of EAPap, nanoscaled PPy layer into cellulose EAPap was formed by in-situ polymerization technique. Cellulose-PPy-IL nanocomposite based EAPap actuator showed nearly 100% improvement of the actuator performance compared that of pure cellulose based EAPap actuator systems.

The re-oxidation capacity of partially reduced heptamolybdo-pentavanado-phosphate polyanion (HPA-5(red) or heteropoly blue) by ozone in water and aqueous acetone solution has been examined under conditions simulating pulp bleaching process. Two oxidation stages/phases were revealed indicating the presence of two reactive states (forms) of catalyst in ozonation solution. The bulk of HPA-5(red) (ca. 90%) was completely recovered within a few first minutes of ozonation ([HPA](red)=0.5 mM; 0.39 mmol O(3)/min), whereas residual catalyst portion reacted very slowly (two orders lower rate) with ozone. Addition of organic solvent was shown to have a favorable effect on HPA-5(red) re-oxidation by ozone (k of 0.29 min(-1) vs. 0.43 min(-1) for ozonation, respectively, in water and 10%v/v acetone solution; pH 2), being evidently the principal reason for high efficiency of solvent-assisted HPA/O(3) pulp bleaching approach. Among biomaterials used as implants in human body, sutures constitute the largest groups of materials having a huge market exceeding $1.3 billion annually. Sutures are the most widely used materials in wound closure and have been in use for many centuries. With the development of the synthetic absorbable polymer, poly(glycolic acid) (PGA) in the early 1970s, a new chapter has opened on absorbable polymeric sutures that got unprecedented commercial successes. Although several comparative evaluations of suture materials have been published, there were no serious attempts of late on a comprehensive review of production, properties, biodegradability, and performance of suture materials. This review proposes to bring to focus scattered data on chemistry, properties, biodegradability, and performance of absorbable polymeric sutures.

Biopolymeric coatings were prepared and applied onto paperboard to improve its water barrier property. To prepare whey protein isolate (WPI)/cellulose-based films, WPI and glycerol were dissolved in water with glutaraldehyde (cross-linking agent) and cellulose xanthate. The solution was cast, dried, and insolubilized by entrapment of WPI in regenerated cellulose. Films were combined with beeswax (BW) into a bilayer coating system and then applied onto paperboard by heating compression. Another coating solution consisting of poly(vinyl butyral) (PVB)/zein was prepared by dissolving poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and zein in 70% ethanol with glutaraldehyde and butyraldehyde (functionalization agent). The PVB/zein solution was applied onto paperboard after BW was sprayed. The structure of the PVB/zein-based coatings was analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The water vapor barrier property of coated paperboards was evaluated by water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) measurements. From the FTIR spectra, PVA functionalization after cross-linking and efficient acetalization into PVB were confirmed. WPI/cellulose and PVB/zein coating treatments improved the water barrier properties of paperboard by decreasing the WVTR by 77-78%. Although the BW coating was more efficient (decrease of WVTR by 89%), bilayer coatings composed of BW and polymer coatings had a stronger barrier effect with a decrease of WVTR to 92-95%, hence approaching commercial attributes required to ensure water vapor barrier in paperboard-based food containers (10 g/m(2).day). These results suggest that surface coating by biodegradable polymers may be utilized for the manufacture of paperboard containers in industrial applications.

Information on industrial paper obtained from special purpose heat-resistant and fire-resistant fibers by the method of fiber swelling is presented. Pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy were used for characterizing specks in cellulose pulp, polymeric materials and pitch formed during the cellulose extraction and paper production in the Brazilian mill. Three samples were analyzed and the pyrograms and infrared spectra obtained were compared. The results showed that the analytical pyrolysis more effectively differentiated between impurities (dirt specks) when compared to the infrared spectroscopy.

Cellulose-based materials represent a renewable, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly alternative to plastic from fossil resources. Nanopaper is a strong and lightweight material formed from cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs). Paper and nanopaper have been considered as excellent alternatives to plastics for use in agriculture and for packaging applications. However, common for both paper and nanopaper is their hydrophilic character, and consequently, poor water-resistance properties. ORMOCER®s are a class of inorganic–organic polymers with excellent barrier and protective properties used for a range of coating applications. Here we present ORMOCER®-coated paper and nanopaper. The coated papers and nanopapers are characterized, both in terms of their morphology, hydrophobicity, and mechanical properties. We demonstrate that the pressure used during the pressing and drying of paper and nanopaper influence their tear and tensile—properties, and that the morphology of the coated nanopaper differs significantly from that of the coated paper. While the ORMOCER® was impregnated within the porous network of the paper, a well-defined two-layered morphology was obtained with the coated nanopaper. Further, the biodegradability of the nanopaper with and without coating was assessed. The degradation study demonstrated that both the pressure used during the pressing and drying of the nanopaper, and the composition of the ORMOCER®, influenced the rate of degradation. Taken together, ORMOCER®-coated paper and nanopaper are promising for the preparation of materials that are both water-resistant, renewable, and biodegradable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Viscometric Degree of Polymerization (DPv or DP for short) is a well-established method used in the transformer industry to track degradation of the paper insulation used inside transformers. The DP method works well for both new, unprocessed paper, and for aged paper. But in recent years it has become an established fact that there are unclear issues related to measurements of DP on new paper after factory drying. This phenomenon has been observed for different paper types, paper dried using different drying methods, different types of pulp and measurements made at different laboratories. Cigré has recently published a reference paper on the subject [1], written by experts from different transformer manufacturers, paper manufacturers, independent laboratories and utilities. It is further noted in Cigré brochure 738 (WG D1.53) that at times, new paper after factory drying does not dissolve well in the Cuen solution used for DP measurement. This difficulty introduces tremendous uncertainties in the average DP numbers reported by laboratories for such papers. The materials utilized in paper packaging are derived from natural plant fibers, making them both environmentally friendly and biodegradable. However, traditional paper has been vulnerable to water and oil, which has limited its widespread use. In this research, a low-fluorine acrylate emulsion with a short carbon chain (CNF-C 6 FA) was created by employing carboxylated nanocellulose (TOCNF), dodecyl phenol ethoxylate, and sodium dodecyl sulfate as emulsifiers through semi-continuous seed emulsion polymerization. When combined with a specific amount of polyvinyl alcohol, this emulsion is applied to the paper surface to enhance the paper's hydrophobic and lipophobic properties. The findings revealed that paper coated with 5 g/m2 of CNF-C 6 FA achieved an oil-proof grade of 10 and a Cobb value of 13 g/m2, signifying a significant enhancement. It was discovered that TOCNF, acting as an emulsifier, not only maintained emulsion stability through steric hindrance, three-dimensional network structures, or vacancy effects but also conferred exceptional waterproof and oil-repellent properties to the paper. This can be attributed to TOCNF reinforcing the fluorocarbon groups in a directional arrangement, resulting in a dense and smooth coating layer on the paper's surface. The utilization of TOCNF as an emulsifier to produce environmentally friendly, waterproof, and oil-proof paper presents a promising approach for its high-value application. The functional paper holds significant potential in some special fields, which has achieved great development. Nevertheless, using cellulose paper to fabricate functional paper, which integrates transparency, robustness, flexibility, shape memory, and sustainability, remains a challenge. Herein, the vitrimer precursor was vacuum impregnated into cellulose paper and then in-situ polymerized to develop a vitrimer-cellulose paper (VCP) with transparency, shape manipulation, robustness, and sustainability. Taking advantage of the vitrimer's dynamic performance, the resulting VCP demonstrated excellent optical transparency (transmittance of 84%, haze of 75%), enhanced mechanical strength (tensile strength of 80.5 MPa), chemical resistance, thermal-triggered shape manipulation, and reprocessing. Noteworthily, VCP possessed outstanding light management capability with effective light propagating and scattering performance. Furthermore, VCP laminate showed increased mechanical property with the increased layers, and it can be reprocessed to a bulk composite after crushing. Aminoalkylalkoxysilane copolymers (co-AAAS) have the ability to simultaneously deacidify and strengthen paper documents. Nevertheless, despite enhancing the tensile strength, they generally fail to improve the folding endurance of the degraded groundwood pulp-rich papers. Focusing on that specific type of papers, several ways to overcome their lack of reinforcement were investigated. Promoting the polymerization of AAAS using catalysts and thermal steps was one of them. A monitoring with FTIR spectroscopy showed that the thermal step was the most efficient in speeding up the hydrolysis and polycondensation of 3-aminopropylmethyldiethoxysilane (AM) monomer in aqueous solutions. The progress of the two-steps reaction in terms of degree of polymerization of AAAS polymers was then studied in-situ after heating the paper, using Cross Polarization—Magic Angle Spinning 29Si solid-state NMR, and was shown to be enhanced as well. The other optimization route explored was to stabilize the paper before treatment. Our previous research had shown that the presence of oxidized groups in paper hampered the strengthening. Sodium borohydride, a known bleaching agent in paper conservation, was used prior to the AAASs treatment to decrease the amount of carbonyls in paper. The reduction and the thermal step were compared in terms of the mechanical properties (folding endurance and tensile strength) upon AAASs treatment of several lignocellulosic papers, including three newsprints dated 1911–1923. The use of sodium borohydride led to a significant improvement of the folding endurance of the samples, an unprecedented result. Due to the limitation of storage condition, paper cultural relics are constantly subject to human damage and natural aging, requiring rescue protection. In this study, a series of nanocellulose/calcium carbonate microcapsule/fluorineacrylamide styrene/acrylic copolymer composite protection materials were prepared and used as an efficient selfhealing composite coating for paper cultural relics protection. CaCO3 microcapsules were prepared by interfacial reaction method and doped into the polymer materials to obtain the self-healing composite coating. The properties of composite protection materials were studied via the self-healing experiment, dry heat accelerated aging test, and reversible experiment. The effects of composite protection materials on simulate paper cultural relics were analyzed. The results show that when the amount of hollow calcium carbonate microcapsules was 0.500 g, the composite protection materials had good comprehensive performances. There is broad interest in producing electrospun films embedded with biological materials. It is well known that electrospinning requires careful control of the process conditions, especially the environmental conditions such as relative humidity (RH). Given that commercial electrospinning systems are expensive (> $10,000) and are typically too large to be used in standard biological safety cabinets (BSC), we designed and built a miniaturized electrospinning box (E-Box) that will fit inside a BSC, and the RH can be easily controlled using simple instrumentation (gas cylinder, regulator, needle valve, rotameter). It uses an inexpensive computerized numerical control machine to control the spinneret positioning and collector rotational speed-all the parts for the device (except the syringe pump and voltage supply) can be purchased for approximately $1000. We demonstrate the usefulness of our design in optimizing the production of Escherichia coli-embedded pullulan-trehalose films to be used as rapidly dissolving biosensors for environmental monitoring. At a fixed electrospinning recipe, we showed that decreasing the RH from approximately 48% to 22% resulted in the average fiber diameter increasing from 240 (± 11) nm to 314 (± 8) nm. We also demonstrate the usefulness of our design in performing sequential electrospinning experiments to evaluate process performance reproducibility. For example, from just 1 mL of a polymer solution, we produced 16 electrospun films (approximately 3 cm by 8 cm each)-from those films we hole-punched approximately 80 biosensor discs which were then used in subsequent experiments to determine the amount of two different biocides (Grotan BK and triclosan) in aqueous samples. This review article covers all types of paper-based humidity sensor, such as capacitive, resistive, impedance, fiber-optic, mass-sensitive, microwave, and RFID (radio-frequency identification) humidity sensors. The parameters of these sensors and the materials involved in their research and development, such as carbon nanotubes, graphene, semiconductors, and polymers, are comprehensively detailed, with a special focus on the advantages/disadvantages from an application perspective. Numerous technological/design approaches to the optimization of the performances of the sensors are considered, along with some non-conventional approaches. The review ends with a detailed analysis of the current problems encountered in the development of paper-based humidity sensors, supported by some solutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Lignin, the second most abundant biopolymer on earth and with a predominantly aromatic structure, has the potential to be a raw material for valuable chemicals and other bio-based chemicals. In industry, lignin is underutilized by being used mostly as a fuel for producing thermal energy. Valorization of lignin requires knowledge of the structure and different linkages in the isolated lignin, making the study of structure of lignin important. In this article, lignin samples isolated from two types of reactors (autoclave reactor and displacement reactor) were analyzed by FT-IR, size exclusion chromatography, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and Py-GC-MS. The average molecular mass of the organosolv lignins isolated from the autoclave reactor decreased at higher severities, and FT-IR showed an increase in free phenolic content with increasing severity. Except for molecular mass and molecular mass dispersity, there were only minor differences between lignins isolated from the autoclave reactor and lignins isolated from the displacement reactor. Carbohydrate analysis, Py-GC-MS and TGA showed that the lignin isolated using either of the reactor systems is of high purity, suggesting that organosolv lignin is a good candidate for valorization., (© 2023 The Authors. Strength properties of paper are of great significance in terms of its mechanical performance and are attributed to cellulosic fibers. When filler is used in papermaking, the cost and strength properties get reduced but optical properties are improved. So far, modification of fillers using chitosan (CH) is not explored in such a way that all aspects of wet-end of papermaking get covered. The novelty lies in showing the effect of CH as filler modifier at various doses on different fillers and the wet-end application of modified fillers at different doses along with other additives used in papermaking. The impact of addition of modified fillers on end paper properties is also analyzed. Here, CH was applied to modify fillers characteristics so that the ash in paper can be increased without compromising the strength properties. Three different doses (0.25%, 0.50% and 1.00%) of CH were added to the fillers. The addition of modified fillers to bleached mixed hardwood (BMHW) pulp increased the filler retention in paper while the reduction in strength properties was found to be less and in some properties even an increase was observed. Campylobacter jejuni is recognized as the most common species in the genus Campylobacter that causes foodborne diseases. The main reservoirs harboring C. jejuni are poultry products, which are associated with most illnesses, creating a demand for effective detection methods to achieve point-of-need diagnostics. We developed an easy-to-use, hybrid paper/polymer-based microfluidic device that integrates paperbased DNA extraction, isothermal nucleic acid amplification, and lateral flow detection. Overall, the recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) reaction was completed in 20 min and demonstrated 100% specificity to C. jejuni, including 2 reference strains and 6 wild strains isolated from the agroecosystem, 9 other Campylobacter subspecies strains, and 11 non-Campylobacter strains. The limit of detection (LOD) was 46 CFU/mL with DNA extracted on the cellulose paper. The sensitivity was reduced to 460 CFU/mL on the integrated hybrid paper/polymer-based microfluidic device. This device could detect C. jejuni spiked at concentrations ranging from 101 to 10² CFU/g in chicken meat after an enrichment of 5 to 10 h. For C. jejuni levels of >10² CFU/g, it managed to confirm positive results immediately, without bacterial enrichment. RPA reagents and primers remained stable on the paper platform at 22°C for 12 h. After lyophilization and storage on paper, the RPA reaction showed consistent sensitivity for 3 days, and the LOD was reduced to 103 CFU/mL when storage was extended to 25 days. The use of this hybrid paper/polymer-based microfluidic device enabled detection of Campylobacter in foods with high specificity and sensitivity, demonstrating its potential as a reliable point-of-need diagnostic platform for on-site conditions due to its low cost, portability, and simplicity.
