Os objetivos deste trabalho foram: determinar o padrão de resistência/suscetibilidade de 20 genótipos de aveia a 40 isolados de Puccinia coronata f. sp. avenae, coletados em três municípios do Rio Grande do Sul; o padrão de virulência/avirulência desses isolados contra os genótipos de aveia; e indicar genitores para a geração de populações com elevada resistência à ferrugem-da-folha. Os padrões de resistência de Puccinia coronata f. sp. avenae e o de virulência/avirulência dos isolados foram determinados pela avaliação da reação desencadeada pela aspersão dos isolados deste fungo em plântulas de genótipos de aveia. A seleção de genitores foi baseada no índice de complementação de cultivares, proposto neste trabalho. Os genótipos que expressaram resistência ao maior número de isolados foram FAPA6, URS20, UPFA20, CFT1 e FAPA5, ao passo que os genótipos UFRGS15, UPF15, UPF18, UPF19 e UPF16 evidenciaram suscetibilidade ao maior número de isolados. Os cruzamentos mais indicados entre os genótipos estudados são: FAPA6 x Albasul, URS22 x FAPA6, CFT1 x URPEL15 e CFT1 x UFRGS19. The objectives of this work were: to determine the resistance/susceptibility pattern of 20 elite oat genotypes to 40 isolates of Puccinia coronata f. sp. avenae; to determine the pattern of virulence/avirulence of isolates collected in three counties of Rio Grande do Sul to the oat genotypes studied; and to indicate potential parents for the generation of populations with high crown rust resistance. The resistance pattern of oat genotypes and the virulence/avirulence of the fungi were determined by the analysis of the reaction incited by the inoculation of Puccinia coronata f. sp. avenae isolates into seedlings of oat genotypes. The selection of genitors was based on the cultivar complementation index proposed in this work. Genotypes expressing resistance to the larger number of isolates were FAPA6, URS20, UPFA20, CFT1 and FAPA5, while UFRGS15, UPF15, UPF18, UPF19 and UPF16 were susceptible to a higher number of isolates. The following crosses are indicated: FAPA6 x Albasul, URS22 x FAPA6, CFT1 x URPEL15 and CFT1 x UFRGS19.

A seleção indireta visando ao incremento no rendimento de grãos pelos seus componentes primários bem como a resistência ao acamamento podem representar estratégias eficientes a serem adotadas para otimização do ganho genético em trigo. Nesse sentido, o objetivo do trabalho foi evidenciar caracteres que possibilitem identificar genótipos de elevado rendimento de grãos e resistentes ao acamamento através de seleção indireta. O experimento foi conduzido no Centro Agropecuário da Palma, em Capão do Leão/RS, utilizando dezenove genótipos de trigo em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com três repetições. Nas condições deste estudo, o peso hectolítrico pode ser empregado de maneira eficiente na seleção indireta, visando ao incremento no rendimento de grãos, no peso médio de grãos, número de grãos por espiga e no peso de espiga. O caráter peso de espiga evidenciou elevado efeito indireto sobre o rendimento de grãos, podendo ser empregado na seleção indireta pela facilidade de mensuração. A linhagem TB 951 é indicada como excelente fonte de resistência ao acamamento em trigo, podendo contribuir para elevar o comprimento de espiga, o número de espigueta por espiga, o peso de espiga e o número de grãos por espiga. The selection in yield primary components and lodging resistance with goal of increasing grain yield can represent efficient strategies for optimizing genetic gain in wheat. In this sense, the objective of the present work was to detect characters that enable the identification of high grain yield potential and lodging resistant genotypes through the use of indirect selection. The experiment was conducted at the Centro Agropecuário da Palma, Capão do Leão/RS, consisting of nineteen wheat genotypes arranged in random block design with three replications. In this work conditions the hectoliter weight can be efficiently used through indirect selection aiming increasing grain yield, average grain weight, number of grains per ear and ear weight. The character ear weight showed high indirect effect on grain yield and can be used for indirect selection due to its ease of measurement. The line TB 951 is indicated as an excellent source for lodging resistance in wheat, and can contribute to increase ear length, number of spikelets per ear, ear weigh and number of grain per ear.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) A cultura da soja (Glycine max (L.) Merril) apresenta grande importância econômica para o Brasil. A ocorrência de condições climáticas desfavoráveis na pré-colheita de sementes de soja, após a maturidade fisiológica, pode ocasionar danos e afetar negativamente a qualidade das sementes. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar a qualidade fisiológica de sementes de diferentes cultivares de soja com diferente teor de lignina no legume e tegumento submetidas a deterioração por umidade em pré-colheita. Além disso, foram selecionadas quatro cultivares contrastantes para dano por umidade para determinar a expressão relativa de genes envolvidos na via de biossíntese da lignina, deposição de pectina e na resistência a deiscência do legume. Foram conduzidos experimentos utilizando 17 cultivares de soja. No estádio fenológico R5.2, foram coletados os legumes e realizadas análises de expressão gênica, onde os genes alvos estudados foram: F5H, SCPL, CAD, POD, ALDH, COMT, CCR e CSE que codificam enzimas da via de biossíntese da lignina, PE (deposição de pectina no legume) e os genes SHAT1-5 e NST1A são fatores de transcrição relacionados à deiscência do legume. Em R8, foi realizada simulação de chuva onde ocorreu durante três dias consecutivos, tendo como acumulado 150 mm. Após maturação plena foi realizado o teste de germinação, tetrazólio, teor de lignina no legume e no tegumento. A quantificação da expressão gênica relativa foi realizada pelo método do 2-ΔΔct, sendo o gene endógeno β actina como referência e a cultivar BMX ZEUS como amostra calibradora. No conjunto de 17 cultivares, foi possível identificar as cultivares com maior teor de lignina, onde pode ser destacada a cultivar BRSMG715A com tegumento preto, seguida da cultivar BRSMG 800A com tegumento da cor marrom e a cultivar de tegumento amarelo, a cultivar BRS 388 RR. Em relação às cultivares com maior teor de lignina nos legumes, podem ser destacadas as cultivares M8210, BRS 388RR e BRS Jiripoca. Nas avaliações da qualidade fisiológica por meio da análise de tetrazólio, as cultivares com maior dano por umidade foram BMX ZEUS e BRS 511 e com menores danos foram BRS 388RR e BRS Jiripoca, e as cultivares que apresentaram maiores prejuízos com vigor e viabilidade foram as cultivares BMX ZEUS e BRS 511. As cultivares com menor qualidade fisiológica de sementes, foram aquelas com menor teor de lignina no tegumento e legume. Na análise de expressão gênica relativa foi observado que as cultivares com maior teor de lignina, apresentaram maior expressão relativa dos genes da via de biossíntese de lignina e do gene SHAT1-5 de resistência à deiscência mais expressos na cultivar BRS 388RR com maior teor de lignina, e menos expressos na cultivar BRS 511 com menor teor de lignina. The soybean crop (Glycine max (L.) Merril) has great economic importance for Brazil. The occurrence of unfavorable climatic conditions in the pre-harvest of soybean seeds, after physiological maturity, can cause damage and negatively affect seed quality. The objective of this work was to evaluate the physiological quality of seeds of different soybean cultivars with different lignin content in the pod and seed coat submitted to wheathering deterioration in pre-harvest. In addition, four cultivars contrasting to the wheathering deterioration tolerance were selected to determine the relative expression of key genes involved in the lignin biosynthesis pathway, pectin deposition and genes involved in resistance to pod dehiscence. Experiments were conducted using 17 soybean cultivars. In phenological stage R5.2, the pods were collected and to relative gene expression analyzes. The target genes of the lignin biosynthesis pathway (F5H, SCPL, CAD, POD, ALDH, COMT, CCR and CSE), pectin deposition (PE) and transcription factors related to pod dehiscence (SHAT1-5 and NST1A). In R8, a rain simulation was carried out during three consecutive days , having accumulated 150 mm. After full maturation, the analysis of germination, tetrazolium, lignin content in the pod and seed coat was performed. The relative expression was performed using the 2-ΔΔct method, with the endogenous β actin gene as reference and the cultivar BMX ZEUS as the calibrator sample. Within the set of 17 cultivars, it was possible to classify the cultivars with the highest lignin content, where the cultivar BRSMG715A with black seed coat can be highlighted, followed by the cultivar BRSMG 800A with the brown seed coat and the cultivar with yellow seed coat being the cultivar BRS 388 RR, in relation to the cultivars with the highest lignin content in pod, the cultivars M8210, BRS 388RR and BRS Jiripoca can be highlighted. Regarding the physiological quality of seed evaluations through tetrazolium analysis, the cultivars with the greatest damage by weathering were BMX ZEUS and BRS 511 and with the least damage were BRS 388RR and BRS Jiripoca, and the cultivars that showed the greatest damage to vigor and viability were the cultivars BMX ZEUS and BRS 511. The cultivars with the lowest physiological seed quality were those with the lowest lignin content in the seed coat and pod. Regarding the results of relative expression, it was observed that cultivars with higher lignin content had higher relative expression, and the other group with lower relative expression compared to BMX ZEUS cultivar, consequently the genes of the biosynthesis pathway of lignin and the dehiscence resistance gene SHAT1-5 were more expressed in cultivar BRS 388RR with higher lignin content, and less expressed in cultivar BRS 511 with lower lignin content.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) A soja é uma das principais culturas produzidas no âmbito mundial,e as produtividades obtidas a campo têm aumentado consideravelmente nas últimas décadas no Brasil. Para avaliar o ganho genético de caracteres agronômicos, fenológicos e bioquímicos, cultivares de soja lançadas entre 1966 e 2011 foram avaliadas nas principais regiões de cultivo do Brasil. Os ensaios foram conduzidos em 25 ambientes (local x ano) na região Sul, 14 na região Centro-Oeste e em oiton as regiões Norte e Nordeste, nas safras agrícolas 2016/17, 2017/18 e 2018/19. Os melhores preditores lineares não viesados (BLUP) de cada caractere foram obtidos via metodologia de modelos mistos. Os BLUPs e os anos de lançamento das cultivares foram utilizados nas análises de regressão para obtenção das taxas de ganho genético. As taxas de ganho linear para o rendimento de grãos na região Sul foram de 15,31, 13,83 e 14,13 kg ha-1ano-1(0,42, 0,36 e 0,39% ano-1) para o conjunto completo, precoce e médio de cultivares, respectivamente. O modelo quadrático também mostrou uma tendência de aumento nas taxas de ganho nos últimos anos da série histórica, embora o ajuste não foi significativo. Além disso, as novas cultivares apresentaram maior estatura de planta, teor de óleo, rendimento de óleo e proteína, e menor peso de mil sementes, período vegetativo, ciclo total e teor de proteína comparativamente às cultivares mais antigas, embora houve diferenças significativas entre as macrorregiões 1 e 2. Na região Centro-Oeste, as taxas de ganho linear para o rendimento de grãos foram de 17,55, 13,58, 21,84 e 20,83 kg ha-1ano-1(0,62, 0,47, 0,77 e 0,69% ano-1) para o conjunto completo, precoce, médio e tardio de cultivares, respectivamente. As novas cultivares apresentaram maior teor de óleo, rendimento de óleo e proteína, e menor teor de proteína e inserção de primeira vagem comparativamente às cultivares antigas. Também houve tendência de redução do ciclo e período vegetativo ao longo dos anos. Em relação às regiões Norte e Nordeste, não foram identificados ganhos significativos para a maioria dos caracteres avaliados. Os resultados obtidos evidenciam que os programas de melhoramento têm sido eficientes ao longo dos anos na melhoria da produtividade e de caracteres de importância em soja nas principais regiões produtoras do Brasil, e que platôs de produtividade ainda não foram alcançados. Soybean is one of the main crops produced worldwide, and the on-farm yields has increased considerably in the last decades in Brazil. To evaluate the genetic gainfor agronomic, phenological and biochemical traits, soybean cultivars released from 1966 to 2011 were evaluated in the main regions of soybean cultivation in Brazil. The field trials were conducted in 25 environments (site-year) in South region, 14 in Midwest region, and eightin North and Northeast regions in 2016/17, 2017/18 and 2018/19 crops seasons. The best linear unbiased predictors (BLUP) of each trait were obtained using a mixed linear model. The BLUPsand years of cultivar release were used in the regression analysis to obtain genetic gain rates. The linear gain rates for seed yield in South region were 15.31, 13.83 and 14.13 kg ha-1year-1(0.42, 0.36 and 0.39% year-1) for the full, early and medium sets of cultivars, respectively. The quadratic model also showed a trend to increase the gain rates in the last years of the historical serie, although the fit was not significant. In addition, new cultivars presented more plant height, seed oil content, and oil and protein yield, and less seed weight, days to flowering, days to maturity and seed protein content than old ones, although there were significant differences between the macroregions 1 and 2. In the Midwest region, the linear gain rates for seed yield were 17.55, 13.58, 21.84 and 20.83 kg ha-1year-1(0.62, 0.47, 0.77 and 0.69% year-1) for the full, early, medium and late sets of cultivars, respectively. The new cultivars presented more seed oil content, oil and protein yield, and less seed proteinand lower first pod insertion than old ones. There was also a trend to reduce days to maturity and days to flowering over the years. Regarding the North and Northeast regions, were not identified significant gains for the most of the evaluated traits. Theresults shown that breeding programs has been efficient across the years to improve soybean yield and important traits in the main producing regions of Brazil, and that a yield plateau has not been reached yet.

A Artemisia annua é uma planta que produz artemisinina e diversos outros compostos através de seu metabolismo especializado, utilizados comercialmente para o controle da malária. Diversas pesquisas têm sido desenvolvidas para aclimatação e melhoramento desta espécie no CPQBA/Campinas e UTFPR/Pato Branco. O presente estudo objetivou correlacionar os caracteres fisiológicos, agronômicos e fitoquímicos com o teor e rendimento de artemisinina na seleção e melhoramento de A. annua L. Para a seleção das melhores plantas foi utilizada Seleção Massal Estratificada com 30 estratos e 33 plantas por estrato. A primeira seleção de plantas foi realizada utilizando critérios agronômicos com roguing subsequente das plantas não selecionadas e bordaduras. Fatores bióticos e ambientais impactaram a avaliação das plantas, restando 138 plantas com sementes viáveis, nas quais foram realizadas as avaliações fisiológicas, agronômicas e fitoquímicas (cromatografia de camada delgada) e selecionadas 50 plantas para análise de teor de artemisinina e ácido dihidroartemisínico em HPLC e perfil fitoquímico de óleo essencial por GC-MS. As análises estatísticas de média foram realizadas utilizando a plataforma R, análises de correlação com o software Genes e índices de seleção com o aplicativo GGE Biplot. Os testes e análises de artemisinina com TLC apresentaram correlação positiva fraca com as análises de HPLC. O programa IMAGEJ apresentou alta eficiência na quantificação de artemisinina por TLC. Os caracteres fisiológicos não apresentaram correlação com teor (ART) e rendimento (REND) de artemisinina. Entre os caracteres agronômicos, peso seco de folha (PSF) e Biomassa apresentaram correlação negativa fraca com ART e os caracteres PSF, Biomassa, diâmetro de caule e ART apresentaram correlação positiva com REND. Entre os caracteres fitoquímicos, ácido dihidroartemisínico apresentou correlação positiva fraca com ART, Cis-cadin-4-en-7-ol correlação com ART e REND, rendimento de óleo (OLS) correlação com REND e ART correlação com REND. A análise de média dos genótipos por caracteres morfológicos apresentou média 62% maior para o caractere 1,8 cineol nas plantas de caule roxo, comparada com as verdes. O teor e rendimento médios de artemisinina dos genótipos analisados foi de 0,73% e 26,15 kg.ha-1, respectivamente. O desempenho no teor e rendimento de artemisinina dos 20 melhores genótipos, classificados em teor de artemisinina por HPLC, foram de 29% e 27% superiores, respectivamente, comparado aos 50 genótipos analisados. O teor médio de óleo essencial por planta foi de 0,72%, com rendimento médio de 26,37 kg.ha-1. Os componentes principais do óleo essencial da variedade CPQBA 3 foram a cânfora, germacreno D, trans-cariofileno, trans-β-farneseno e 1,8 cineol. Artemisia annua is a plant which produces artemisinin and various other compounds by its specialized metabolism, used commercially to malaria control. Several researches have been developed to acclimatise and improve this species in CPQBA/Campinas and UTFPR/Pato Branco. The present study aimed to correlate the physiological, agronomic and phytochemical characteristics with the content and yield of artemisinin (ART e REND) in the selection and improvement of A. annua. For the selection of the best plants it was used the Stratified Mass Selection with 30 strata and 33 plants per stratum. The first plants selection was performed using agronomic criteria with subsequent roguing of the unselected plants and borders. Biotic and environmental factors impacted the viability of plants evaluation, leaving 138 plants with viable seeds, in which the physiological, agronomic and phytochemical evaluations were performed (thin layer chromatography – TLC) and selected 50 plants for analysis of artemisinin and dihydroartemisinic acid content in HPLC and essential oil phytochemical profile by GC-MS. The statistical analyzes of mean were performed using the R platform, correlation analyzes with the Genes software® and selection indexes with the GGE Biplot app. Tests and analyzes of artemisinin with TLC showed a weak positive correlation with HPLC analyzes. The IMAGEJ program showed high efficiency in the quantification of artemisinin by TLC. The physiological characters showed no correlation with ART and REND. Among the agronomic characters, leaf dry weight (PSF) and Biomass presented weak negative correlation with ART, and the characters PSF, Biomass, stem diameter and ART showed a positive correlation with REND. Among the phytochemical characters, dihydroartemisinic acid presented weak positive correlation with ART, Cis-cadin-4-en-7-ol correlation with ART and REND, oil yield (OLS) correlation with REND, and ART correlation with REND. The average analysis of the genotypes by morphological characters showed a 62% higher average for the character 1.8-cineole in the plants of purple branch, compared to the green ones. The average of artemisinin content and yield of the analyzed genotypes was 0.73% and 26,15 kg.ha-1 (D.B.), respectively. The artemisinin content and yield of the 20 best genotypes, classified in artemisinin content by HPLC, were 29% and 27% higher, respectively, compared to the 50 genotypes analyzed. The average oil content per plant was 0.72%, with an average yield of 26.37 kg.ha-1 (D.B.). The major components of CPQBA 3 essential oil were camphor, germacrene D, trans-caryophyllene, trans-β-farnesene and 1.8-cineole.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) Em um programa de melhoramento genético varios fatores influenciam na seleção de cultivares, basicamente pelo elevado número de genótipos em avaliação e pela reduzida capacidade experimental em fases iniciais do programa. Nesse contexto, o presente trabalho foi dividido em quatro partes. O primeiro estudo objetivou identificar locais chaves para avaliação e seleção de genótipos de soja nas nas macrorregiões 1 (M1) e 2 (M2), em gerações com pouca disponibilidade de semente. O conjunto de dados consistiu em 22 genótipos de soja cultivados em 23 locais por 3 anos. As análises GGL + GGE e G vs. GE foram usadas. As localidades Chapada-RS e Maracaju-MS foram os locais mais representativos e discriminantes macrorregiões 1 e 2, respectivamente. A identificação das localidades chave é fundamental para a avaliação, onde o número de locais de ensaio pode se resumir a um único local por macrorregião sojícola. O segundo estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a precisão experimental de diferentes métodos de análise estatística para ensaios com elevado número de genótipos de soja. Foram usados dados de produtividade de grãos de 324 genótipos de soja, avaliados em 6 repetições. Os dados foram analisados considerando os delineamentos de blocos ao acaso, látice triplo e uso do método de Papadakis. Os indicadores de precisão experimental do método de Papadakis são mais favoráveis, quando comparados com os delineamentos de blocos ao acaso e látice triplo. Pode-se usar duas repetições e analisar os dados, usando o delineamento de blocos completamente casualizados ou método Papadakis, sem redução da precisão experimental. No terceiro estudo foi avaliado o desempenho produtivo, a adaptabilidade e a estabilidade de cultivares modernas de soja, em ensaios multiambientes. Foram avaliados 46 cultivares em oito ambientes, nas microrregiões de adaptação 102, 201 e 202, na safra 2014/2015. Ocorreu interação genótipo x ambiente complexa, com alterações do ranqueamento de cultivares entre os locais. Dentre os genótipos avaliados a cultivar NA 5909 RG, parental das RILs no ensaio GWS, esteve presente entre genótipos de maiores médias produtivas, apresentando também elevada adaptabilidade e estabilidade. O quarto estudo teve três objetivos: avaliar a precisão da SG na soja; identificar o efeito da estrutura intrapopulação na precisão da seleção genômica; e, comparar a eficiência da seleção fenotípica e genômica na soja. Foi utilizado o modelo BayesB com validação cruzada para dados fenótipicos e genótipicos de 324 genótipos de soja. Avaliou-se a precisão do GS para caracteres fenotípicos com dados genotípicos de 5403 marcadores SNPs. Os resultados indicaram que a precisão genotípica foi semelhante, considerando, ou não, a estrutura da população. Se observou que a estrutura da população não afetou significativamente a precisão dos modelos para os caracteres avaliados. Constatou-se que com esta metodologia torna-se possível reduzir pela metade o tempo de seleção e aumentar a eficiência de seleção em 123% para produtividade de grãos. In a breeding program, several factors influence the selection of cultivars, mainly due to the high number of genotypes under evaluation and the reduced experimental capacity in the initial phases of the program. In this context, the present study was divided into four parts. The first one aimed to identify the core locations for evaluation and selection of soybean genotypes in the macro-regions 1 (M1) and 2 (M2), in generations with low seed availability. The data set consisted of 22 soybean genotypes grown in 23 sites for three years. The GGL + GGE and G analyses versus the GE analysis were used. The locations Chapada-RS and Maracaju-MS were the most representative sites and discriminant macro-regions 1 and 2, respectively. Identification of the core location is fundamental to evaluation, since it is where the number of test sites can be summarized to a single site by soybean growing macro-region. The second study aimed to evaluate the experimental accuracy of different statistical methods used to analyze the assays with large numbers of soybean genotypes. The grain yield data from 324 soybean genotypes, evaluated in six replicates, were used. The data were analyzed by using the randomized block design, triple lattice design, and Papadakis method. The experimental accuracy indicators of the Papadakis method were more favorable when compared to those of the randomized block and triple lattice designs. Two replicates could be used when analyzing the data without reducing experimental accuracy: a randomized complete block design or the Papadakis method. In the third study, the productive performance, adaptability, and stability of modern soybean cultivars were evaluated in multi-environment assays. A total of 46 cultivars were evaluated in eight environments, in the adaptation micro-regions 102, 201, and 202, during the 2014/2015 harvest. Genotype × complex environment interactions occurred with changes in the ranking of cultivars between the sites. Among the genotypes evaluated, the cultivar NA 5909 RG, parental to the RILs in the genome-wide selection (GWS) assay, was considered to be among the genotypes with higher mean productivities, and it also showed high adaptability and stability. The fourth study had three objectives: to evaluate the accuracy of genomic selection in soybean, to identify the effect of intra-population structure on the accuracy of genomic selection, and to compare the efficiencies of the phenotypic and genomic selections in soybean. The BayesB model with cross validation was used for analyzing the phenotype data from the 324 soybean genotypes. The accuracy of GS for phenotypic characters with genotypic data of 5403 SNP molecular markers was also evaluated. The results indicated that the genotypic accuracy was similar, irrespective of consideration of the population structure. It was observed that the population structure did not significantly affect the accuracy of the models for the traits evaluated. It was verified that with this methodology it is possible to halve the selection time and increase the selection efficiency by 123% for grain yield.

A introdução de genes Rht, oriundos principalmente de programas de melhoramento da Ásia, Europa, Estados Unidos e México permitiu o avanço da cultura do trigo (Triticum aestivum L.) para áreas consideradas marginais. Nesse contexto, este trabalho se propõe avaliar a capacidade de combinação, heterose e heterobeltiose em um dialelo 8x8 afim de verificar o efeito pleiotrópico (único gene controla diversas características do fenótipo), ou seja, além da estatura, quais os componentes de rendimento que estão sendo alterados quando cultivares de maior estatura são cruzados com as linhas anãs CD 0827, CD 0985 e UTF 0605 disponibilizadas por programas de melhoramento genético nacionais de trigo. O experimento foi conduzido em Pato Branco – PR, na safra agrícola de 2012, em delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados com três repetições. As hibridações foram realizadas com oito genitores, sendo três anões (CD 0827, CD 0985 e UTF 0605) e BRS Pardela, Safira, BRS Tangará, CD 111 e CD 108, escolhidos por apresentarem estatura de planta média à elevada, potencial produtivo e demais caracteres agronômicos de interesse. Os valores dos quadrados médios da capacidade geral de combinação (CGC) foram superiores à capacidade específica de combinação (CEC) para todos os caracteres estudados, demonstrando maior contribuição dos efeitos gênicos aditivos. A capacidade geral de combinação das linhagens anãs (CD 0827, CD 0985 e UTF 0605) indicou as maiores contribuições para a redução da estatura de planta, em ambas as gerações avaliadas, com destaque para a linhagem UTF 0605. A CGC também indica que os genitores UTF 0605, Safira e BRS Tangará maximizam o número de afilhos férteis por planta (AFPL) e CD 0985 e CD 111 se mostraram efetivos em aumentar o número de grãos por planta (NGE). Os genitores Safira, BRS Tangará, CD 108 e entre as anãs CD 0827 se destacaram com os mais elevados valores quanto a CGC para rendimento de grãos por planta (RGP). Os genitores anãos UTF 0605, CD 0985 e CD 0827 são fontes promissoras de genes aditivos para o desenvolvimento de progênies de menor estatura de planta e maior número de afilhos férteis por planta, grãos por espiga e massa de mil grãos. Os cruzamentos CD 0827 x Safira, UTF 0605 x Safira, CD 0985 x CD 111, CD 0985 x CD 108, UTF 0605 x CD 111, UTF 0605 x BRS Tangará destacaram-se com maiores valores de capacidade específica de combinação para rendimento de grãos, e os dois primeiros foram superiores quando se considera os valores de heterose e heterobeltiose e depressão endogâmica. Os resultados deste estudo demonstram a viabilidade de utilização de linhagens anãs em programas de melhoramento genético. The introduction of Rht genes, mainly from breeding programs in Asia, Europe, United States and Mexico has allowed the advancement of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) to marginal areas considered. In this context, this study aims to evaluate the combining ability, heterosis and heterosis in a 8x8 diallel order to verify the pleiotropic effect (single gene controls several features of the phenotype), in other words, beyond the stature which components of income that are being changed when taller cultivars are crossed with dwarf lines CD 0827, CD 0985 and UTF 0605 provided by national wheat breeding programs. The experiment was conducted in Pato Branco - PR in the 2012 harvest, in a randomized block design with three replications. Hybridizations were performed with eight parents, three of them dwarfs (CD 0827 , CD 0985 and UTF 0605), BRS Pardela, Safira , BRS Tangara, CD 111 and CD 108. The values of the mean squares for GCA were higher than SCA for all traits indicating higher contribution of additive genetic effects. The general combining ability of the dwarf lines (CD 0827 , CD 0985 and UTF 0605) indicated the greatest contributions to the reduction of plant height in both generations evaluated, highlighting the UTF 0605 lineage. The CGC also indicates that UTF 0605, Safira and BRS Tangará parents maximize the number of fertile tillers per plant (NFPP) and CD 0985 , CD 111 were effective in increasing the number of grains per spike (NGS). The Safira, BRS Tangará, CD 108 and CD 0827 between dwarf parents stood out with the highest values for GCA for grain yield per plant (GYP) . The dwarf parents UTF 0605, CD 0985 and CD 0827 are promising sources of additive genes for the development of progenies of lower plant height and increased number of fertile tillers per plant, grains per spike and thousand grain weight. The CD 0827 x Safira, UTF 0605 x Safira, CD 0985 x CD 111, CD 0985 x CD 108, UTF 0605 x CD 111, UTF 0605 x BRS Tangará stood out with higher values of specific combining ability for grain yield, and the first two were higher when considering the values of heterosis and heterosis and inbreeding depression. The results of this study demonstrate the feasibility of using plant population used in breeding programs.

CNPq Conhecer os processos responsáveis pelo avanço do progresso genético do rendimento de grãos é uma etapa essencial para o desenvolvimento de cultivares mais produtivas. Os objetivos do estudo foram: a) Avaliar a duração dos subperíodos de desenvolvimento de cultivares de trigo brasileiros, lançados entre 1940 e 2009, e quantificar a importância de cada fenofase sobre o rendimento de grãos e seus componentes. b) Caracterizar, fisiologica e agronomicamente, cultivares de trigo desenvolvidos entre 1940 e 2009, a fim de identificar critérios de seleção mais efetivos à continuidade do progresso genético de melhoramento no Brasil. c) Caracterizar cultivares antigos e modernos brasileiros, lançados em diferentes décadas, quanto à eficiência do uso do nitrogênio e seus componentes. Dez cultivares de trigo brasileiros, antigos e modernos, foram avaliados em ensaios de competição, em duas safras agrícolas (2010 e 2011); na safra agrícola de 2011 um ensaio foi conduzido em casa de vegetação, com quatro doses de nitrogênio (0, 60, 120 e 180 kg N ha-1). Comparou-se a duração dos subperíodos, caracteres agronômicos e fisiológicos (trocas gasosas) e caracteres da eficiência do uso do nitrogênio (EUN). O melhoramento reduziu a fase de semeadura a antese e aumentou a fase de enchimento de grãos, contribuindo com o aumento da massa de mil grãos. Os genótipos modernos tiveram o subperíodo de espigueta terminal a antese aumentado (0,68 a 1,35 graus dias ano-1) ao longo dos anos, contribuindo com o incremento do número de grãos por espigueta, número de grãos por espiga, peso seco de espiga em antese e índice de fertilidade da espiga. O incremento de rendimento de grãos foi de 29 kg ha-1 ano-1, com um ganho genético de 0,92% ano-1 no período de 1940 e 2009. O progresso genético para rendimento de grãos foi principalmente relacionado ao incremente do índice de colheita, número de grãos e rendimento biológico, que foram alcançados pelo aumento da condutância estomática e da taxa fotossintética em pré e pós-antese e redução da estatura de planta. A eficiência de absorção de nitrogênio (EAN) foi positivamente associada com a eficiência do uso do nitrogenio (EUN) na ausência de adubação nitrogenada. A eficiência de utilização do nitrogenio (EUtN) e a EAN foram positivamente associadas a EUN nas doses elevadas de N. Os cultivares mais recentemente disponibilizados para cultivo (Quartzo, CD 117, BRS Tangará, BRS 220, BRS 208 e BRS Guamirim) foram mais eficientes no uso do nitrogênio e mais tolerantes a baixas doses em comparação ao grupo formado pelos cultivares BRS 179, BR 23, Toropi e Frontana. Knowledge the processes responsible for the progress of genetic gain in grain yield in wheat plant is an essential step for the development of high yield cultivars. The aims of the study were: a) Evaluate the duration of developmental phases in wheat cultivars and quantify the importance of each phase on grain yield and its components. b) characterize physiological and agronomically wheat cultivars released in different decades, to identify selection criteria for continued improvement of genetic progress in Brazil. c) Characterize Brazilian wheat cultivars developed in different decades for the nitrogen use efficiency (NUE). Ten wheat cultivars released from1940 to 2009, were examined for two years in a competition essay (2010 and 2011) and in 2011 an essay in green house was conducted with four nitrogen rates (0, 60, 120 e 180 kg N ha-1). We compared the duration of periods, agronomic and physiological traits (gas exchange) and nitrogen use efficiency (EUN) characters. The Breeding reduced time to anthesis and increased the grain filling, contributing to the increase in thousand kernel weight. The modern cultivars had the period terminal spikelet to anthesis increased (0,68 to 1,35 degree days year-1) over the years, contributing to the increase in the number of grains per spikelet, number of grains per spike, spike dry weight at anthesis and spike fertility index. The increase in grain yield was 29 kg ha-1 yr-1, with a genetic gain of 0,92% yr-1 from 1940 to 2009, this is largely related to the increased of harvest index, number of grains m-2 and biological yield, which were achieved through improving stomatal conductance and photosynthetic rate in pre and post-anthesis and reduced in plant height. The nitrogen uptake efficiency (NUpE) was positively associated with nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) in the absence of fertilization. Nitrogen utilization efficiency (NutE) and NUpE were positively associated with NUE in higher N. The modern cultivars (Quartzo, CD 117, BRS Tangará, BRS 220, BRS 208 and BRS Guamirim) were more efficient in the use of nitrogen and more tolerant to low N input compared to the group formed by BRS 179, BR 23, Toropi and Frontana.
