1. New type of hybrid nodal line semimetal in Be2Si

Abstract

Following Dirac and Weyl semimetals, nodal line semimetals represent a new type of topological semimetal and attracted extensive interest in modern condensed matter physics. Recently, a kind of hybrid nodal lines have been proposed (Zhang et al 2018 Phys. Rev. B 97 125143) and it mainly come from anisotropy interaction. Based on the first-principle calculations and k·p model, we predict a cubic Be _2 Si with topological nontrivial electronic states exhibiting fascinating type-I and type-II hybrid nodal line around Fermi level. Unexpectedly the low energy electronic states of Be _2 Si are isotropy in k _x and k _y directions and a new effective model has been proposed for the appearance of this new type hybrid nodal line. The four-fold degenerated type-I and type-II nodal points in the hybrid nodal lines along the high symmetry lines of Γ– K and Γ– X are protected by mirror reflection, time reversal and space inversion symmetry. The spin–orbit coupling effect only induces slight band gap in the hybrid nodal lines in Be _2 Si whose nontrivial nature remains. Moreover, the nontrivial hybrid nodal lines in Be _2 Si are robust to external strain. The results in present work indicate that Be _2 Si are promising candidates for future experimental studies of nontrivial topological semimetals and an excellent platform to study the interaction between the two types Dirac fermions.

Abstract

The changes in output parameters of 1 MeV electron irradiated MOCVD grown upright metamorphic (UMM) GaInP/GaInAs/Ge triple junction solar cells have been studied. Non-ionizing energy loss (NIEL) approach and MULASSIS simulation were applied for analyzing the effects of irradiation induced displacement damage on cell performance. The influence of base thickness on radiation resistance has been studied by changing the base thickness of top GaInP and middle GaInAs subcell, respectively. The experimental results show that the electrical parameters, Voc, Isc, and Pmax of UMM cell degrade with the increase of electron fluence. The change of spectra response indicates middle GaInAs subcell degrades more severe than top GaInP subcells, and the base thickness of two subcells has different effects on spectra response of UMM cell.

Abstract

Multi-loop scattering amplitudes/null polygonal Wilson loops in ${\mathcal N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills are known to simplify significantly in reduced kinematics, where external legs/edges lie in an $1+1$ dimensional subspace of Minkowski spacetime (or boundary of the $\rm AdS_3$ subspace). Since the edges of a $2n$-gon with even and odd labels go along two different null directions, the kinematics is reduced to two copies of $G(2,n)/T \sim A_{n{-}3}$. In the simplest octagon case, we conjecture that all loop amplitudes and Feynman integrals are given in terms of two overlapping $A_2$ functions (a special case of two-dimensional harmonic polylogarithms): in addition to the letters $v, 1+v, w, 1+w$ of $A_1 \times A_1$, there are two letters $v-w, 1- v w$ mixing the two sectors but they never appear together in the same term; these are the reduced version of four-mass-box algebraic letters. Evidence supporting our conjecture includes all known octagon amplitudes as well as new computations of multi-loop integrals in reduced kinematics. By leveraging this alphabet and conditions on first and last entries, we initiate a bootstrap program in reduced kinematics: within the remarkably simple space of overlapping $A_2$ functions, we easily obtain octagon amplitudes up to two-loop NMHV and three-loop MHV. Abstract

Fluorine is one of the most interesting elements in nuclear astrophysics, where the ^{19}F(p,α)^{16}O reaction is of crucial importance for Galactic ^{19}F abundances and CNO cycle loss in first generation Population III stars. As a day-one campaign at the Jinping Underground Nuclear Astrophysics experimental facility, we report direct measurements of the essential ^{19}F(p,αγ)^{16}O reaction channel. The γ-ray yields were measured over E_{c.m.}=72.4-344 keV, covering the Gamow window; our energy of 72.4 keV is unprecedentedly low, reported here for the first time. The experiment was performed under the extremely low cosmic-ray-induced background environment of the China JinPing Underground Laboratory, one of the deepest underground laboratories in the world. The present low-energy S factors deviate significantly from previous theoretical predictions, and the uncertainties are significantly reduced. The thermonuclear ^{19}F(p,αγ)^{16}O reaction rate has been determined directly at the relevant astrophysical energies.

Abstract

Neutron-rich Pm ( Z = 61 ) isotopes were studied by delayed γ -ray spectroscopy at RIBF, RIKEN Nishina Center using the in-flight fission of a 345 MeV/nucleon U 238 beam. A cluster-type Ge detector array, EURICA, was used to measure the delayed γ rays from stopped ions. Isomeric γ decays were observed in Pm 159 and Pm 161 with half-lives of 4.97(12) μ s and 0.79(4) μ s , respectively. Level schemes for Pm 159 and Pm 161 were constructed in this study. The isomeric states of Pm 159 and Pm 161 could be interpreted as two quasiparticle excitations of neutrons with the configurations of ν ( 7 / 2 [ 633 ] ⊗ 5 / 2 [ 523 ] ) and ν ( 7 / 2 [ 633 ] ⊗ 1 / 2 [ 521 ] ) , respectively. They are analogous to the isomers that have been observed systematically in other even-mass N = 98 and N = 100 isotones in this region. A projected shell model calculation was performed and it reproduced the order of three-quasiparticle states only if new Nilsson parameters with an N -dependent spin-orbit interaction were used. This work demonstrates that the strength of spin-orbit interactions in standard Nilsson parameters needs to be modified to study the properties of neutron-rich rare-earth nuclei around A = 165 , and provides new evidence supporting the existence of the deformed N = 98 subshell gap in odd-mass nuclei for the first time.

8. Ground state inversions in hole nuclei near Sn132 driven by the monopole interaction

Abstract

The neutron-rich nuclei to the southwest of $^{132}\mathrm{Sn}$ are studied comprehensively by large-scale, shell-model calculations with the extended pairing plus multipole-multipole force (EPQQM) model. A regular correlation driven by the monopole interaction between the neutron orbits ${h}_{11/2}$ and ${d}_{3/2}$ is found in this nuclear region for different isotonic chains with $N=79,80,81$. The ground-state inversions from $^{130}\mathrm{In}$ $(^{129}\mathrm{Cd})$ to $^{128}\mathrm{In}$ $(^{127}\mathrm{Cd})$ seen experimentally are well described for the first time by this regular correlation. The regular correlation in different isotonic chains is also supported by a systematic comparison between the observed spectra of $^{126}\mathrm{Ag}$ and $^{128}\mathrm{In}$, and further confirmed by the investigation of isomeric states of $^{126}\mathrm{Pd}$, $^{128}\mathrm{Cd}$, and $^{129}\mathrm{In}$ the in $N=80$ isotonic chain. This regular correlation in different isotonic chains should provide useful guidance for further experiments in this region of nuclei.

Abstract

Background: The evolution of shell structure around doubly-magic exotic nuclei is of great interest in nuclear physics and astrophysics. In the `south-west' region of $^{78}$Ni, the development of deformation might trigger a major shift in our understanding of explosive nucleosynthesis. To this end, new spectroscopic information on key close-lying nuclei is very valuable. Purpose: We intend to measure the isomeric and $\beta$ decay of $^{75}$Co, with one proton- and two neutron-holes relative to $^{78}$Ni, to access new nuclear structure information in $^{75}$Co and its $\beta$-decay daughters $^{75}$Ni and $^{74}$Ni. Methods: The nucleus $^{75}$Co is produced in relativistic in-flight fission reactions of $^{238}$U at the Radioactive Ion Beam Factory (RIBF) in the RIKEN Nishina Center. Its isomeric and $\beta$ decay are studied exploiting the BigRIPS and EURICA setups. Results: We obtain partial $\beta$-decay spectra for $^{75}$Ni and $^{74}$Ni, and report a new isomeric transition in $^{75}$Co. The energy ($E_{\gamma}=1914(2)$ keV) and half-life ($t_{1/2}=13(6)$ $\mu$s) of the delayed $\gamma$ ray lend support for the existence of a $J^{\pi}=(1/2^-)$ isomeric state at 1914(2) keV. A comparison with PFSDG-U shell-model calculations provides good account for the observed states in $^{75}$Ni, but the first calculated $1/2^-$ level in $^{75}$Co, a prolate $K=1/2$ state, is predicted about 1 MeV below the observed $(1/2^-)$ level. Conclusions: The spherical-like structure of the lowest-lying excited states in $^{75}$Ni is proved. In the case of $^{75}$Co, the results suggest that the dominance of the spherical configurations over the deformed ones might be stronger than expected below $^{78}$Ni. Further experimental efforts to discern the nature of the $J^{\pi}=(1/2^-)$ isomer are necessary.

Abstract

The beta-delayed two-proton (beta 2p) decay of S-27 was studied using a state-of-the-art silicon array and Clover-type HPGe detectors. An energy peak at 6372(15) keV with a branching ratio of 2.4(5)% in the decay-energy spectrum was identified as a two-proton transition via the isobaric-analog state in P-27 to the ground state of Al-25 in the beta decay of S-27. Two-proton angular correlations were measured by the silicon array to study the mechanism of two-proton emission. Based on experimental results and Monte Carlo simulations, it was found that the main mechanism for the emission of beta 2p by S-27 is of sequential nature.

Abstract

We study Feynman integrals and scattering amplitudes in ${\cal N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills by exploiting the duality with null polygonal Wilson loops. Certain Feynman integrals, including one-loop and two-loop chiral pentagons, are given by Feynman diagrams of a supersymmetric Wilson loop, where one can perform loop integrations and be left with simple integrals along edges. As the main application, we compute analytically for the first time, the symbol of the generic ($n\geq 12$) double pentagon, which gives two-loop MHV amplitudes and components of NMHV amplitudes to all multiplicities. We represent the double pentagon as a two-fold $\mathrm{d} \log$ integral of a one-loop hexagon, and the non-trivial part of the integration lies at rationalizing square roots contained in the latter. We obtain a remarkably compact "algebraic words" which contain $6$ algebraic letters for each of the $16$ square roots, and they all nicely cancel in combinations for MHV amplitudes and NMHV components which are free of square roots. 12. Damage Detection of a Continuous Bridge from Response of a Moving Vehicle

Abstract

This paper presents a multistage multipass method to identify the damage location of a continuous bridge from the response of a vehicle moving on the rough road surface of the bridge. The vehicle runs over the bridge several times at different velocities and the corresponding responses of the vehicle can be obtained. The vertical accelerations of the vehicle running on the intact and damaged bridges are used for identification. The multistage damage detection method is implemented by the modal strain energy based method and genetic algorithm. The modal strain energy based method estimates the damage location by calculating a damage indicator from the frequencies extracted from the vehicle responses of both the intact and damaged states of the bridge. At the second stage, the identification problem is transformed into a global optimization problem and is solved by genetic algorithm techniques. For each pass of the vehicle, the method can identify the location of the damage until it is determined with acceptable accuracy. A two-span continuous bridge is used to verify the method. The numerical results show that this method can identify the location of damage reasonably well.

Abstract

We introduce and study the Wilson-loop ${\rm d}\log$ representation of certain Feynman integrals for scattering amplitudes in ${\cal N}=4$ SYM and beyond, which makes their evaluation completely straightforward. Such a representation was motivated by the dual Wilson loop picture, and it can also be derived by partial Feynman parametrization of loop integrals. We first introduce it for the simplest one-loop examples, the chiral pentagon in four dimensions and the three-mass-easy hexagon in six dimensions, which are represented by two- and three-fold ${\rm d}\log$ integrals that are nicely related to each other. For multi-loop examples, we write the $L$-loop generalized penta-ladders as $2(L{-}1)$-fold ${\rm d}\log$ integrals of some one-loop integral, so that once the latter is known, the integration can be performed in a systematic way. In particular, we write the eight-point penta-ladder as a $2L$-fold ${\rm d}\log$ integral whose symbol can be computed without performing the integration; we also obtain the last entries and the symbol alphabet of these integrals. Similarly we compute and study the symbol of the seven-point double-penta-ladder, which is represented by a $2(L{-}1)$-fold integral of a hexagon; the latter can be written as a two-fold ${\rm d}\log$ integral plus a boundary term. Abstract

A resonant state at 3.21-0.04+0.12MeV, located just above the one-neutron separation threshold, was observed for the first time in Be12 from the Be11(d,p)Be12 one-neutron transfer reaction in inverse kinematics. This state is assigned a spin-parity of 0- according to the systematics of the level scheme of the N=8 isotones and decay-width analysis. Gamow coupled-channel and Gamow shell-model calculations show the importance of the continuum coupling, which dramatically influences the excitation energy and ordering of low-lying states. Various exotic structures associated with cross-shell intruding configurations in Be12 and in its isotonic nucleus Li11 are comparably discussed.

Abstract

We compute the free energy of asymmetric nuclear matter in a Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach at finite temperature, paying particular attention to the dependence on isospin asymmetry. The first- and second-order symmetry energies are determined as functions of density and temperature and useful parametrizations are provided. We find small deviations from the quadratic isospin-asymmetry dependence and very small corresponding effects on (proto)neutron star structure.

Abstract

5 pags., 3 figs., 2 tabs., Neutron-rich radioactive isotope (RI) beams in the vicinity of Zr110 were produced using the in-flight fission of a 345-MeV/nucleon U238 beam at the RIKEN Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory. The RI beams were separated in flight by the large-acceptance two-stage fragment separator BigRIPS. Isotopes were clearly identified in a low-background particle-identification plot, which was obtained from the measurements of time of flight, magnetic rigidity, and energy loss using beam-line detectors placed in the BigRIPS separator and the ZeroDegree spectrometer. Nine new isotopes, Br101, Kr102, Rb105,106, Sr108, Y110,111, Zr114, and Nb117, are reported for the first time, with their measured production cross sections compared with the extrapolations of lighter isotopes down to the femtobarn regime., This experiment was carried out at the RIBF operated by the RIKEN Nishina Center, and the Center for Nuclear Study, the University of Tokyo. Abstract

15 pags., 10 figs., 4 tabs., Newly observed decay schemes of the nuclei Sb137 and Sb138 are reported. The neutron-rich Sb isotopes were produced by the in-flight fragmentation of a U238 primary beam with an energy of 345 MeV/nucleon. Several new excited states of Te137 with tentatively assigned spin-parities of (5/2-), (9/2-), and (7/2) have been established which play an important role in the evolution of neutron levels beyond N=82. The study of the ß decay of Sb138 led to a considerable extension of the level scheme of Te138 including the identification of several nonyrast states. The structure of Te137 and Te138 is discussed on the basis of large-scale shell-model calculations performed using two different effective interactions., This work was carried out at the RIBF operated by RIKEN Nishina Center and CNS, University of Tokyo. Abstract

6 pags., 4 figs., 2 tabs., The change of the shell structure in atomic nuclei, so-called “nuclear shell evolution”, occurs due to changes of major configurations through particle-hole excitations inside one nucleus, as well as due to variation of the number of constituent protons or neutrons. We have investigated how the shell evolution affects Gamow-Teller (GT) transitions that dominate the β decay in the region below 132Sn using the newly obtained experimental data on a long-lived isomer in 127Ag. The T1/2=67.5(9) ms isomer has been identified with a spin and parity of (27/2+) at an excitation energy of 1942−20+14 keV, and found to decay via an internal transition of an E3 character, which competes with the dominant β-decay branches towards the high-spin states in 127Cd. The underlying mechanism of a strong GT transition from the 127Ag isomer is discussed in terms of configuration-dependent optimization of the effective single-particle energies in the framework of a shell-model approach., Part of the WAS3ABi was supported by the Rare Isotope Science Project which is funded by MSIP and NRF of Korea. Abstract

International audience; Precise knowledge of the charge and rigidity dependence of the secondary cosmic ray fluxes and the secondary-to-primary flux ratios is essential in the understanding of cosmic ray propagation. We report the properties of heavy secondary cosmic ray fluorine F in the rigidity $R$ range 2.15 GV to 2.9 TV based on 0.29 million events collected by the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer experiment on the International Space Station. The fluorine spectrum deviates from a single power law above 200 GV. The heavier secondary-to-primary F/Si flux ratio rigidity dependence is distinctly different from the lighter B/O (or B/C) rigidity dependence. In particular, above 10 GV, the $^{\textrm{F/Si}}_{\textrm{B/O}}$ ratio can be described by a power law $R^δ$ with $δ=0.052±0.007$. This shows that the propagation properties of heavy cosmic rays, from F to Si, are different from those of light cosmic rays, from He to O, and that the secondary cosmic rays have two classes.

Abstract

The neutron-rich $^{130--134}\mathrm{Te}$ isotopes are investigated by large-scale shell-model calculations with the extended pairing plus multipole-multipole force (EPQQM model). The orbits of $(0{g}_{7/2},1{d}_{5/2},1{d}_{3/2},2{s}_{1/2},0{h}_{11/2})$ are included for both proton and neutron model space, while two more neutron orbits $(1{f}_{7/2},2{p}_{3/2})$ above the $N=82$ shell gap are included to study neutron-core excitations. The higher core-excited states in $^{132,133}\mathrm{Te}$ are calculated for the first time in this region. The present work well describes both the low-lying and the high-energy states for $^{134}\mathrm{Te}$, $^{133}\mathrm{Te}$, and $^{132}\mathrm{Te}$, as well as the low-lying levels of $^{131}\mathrm{Te}$ and $^{130}\mathrm{Te}$. The several multiplets with clear boundary exist in $^{134,133}\mathrm{Te}$, while a new configuration lying between 4.8 and 6.0 MeV is found as a theoretical prediction in $^{134}\mathrm{Te}$. Finally, the transition probabilities in these nuclei are calculated and compared with available data. The predicted energy levels and electromagnetic transition will be useful for planning future experiments.

Abstract

β-delayed one-proton emissions of ^{22}Si, the lightest nucleus with an isospin projection T_{z}=-3, are studied with a silicon array surrounded by high-purity germanium detectors. Properties of β-decay branches and the reduced transition probabilities for the transitions to the low-lying states of ^{22}Al are determined. Compared to the mirror β decay of ^{22}O, the largest value of mirror asymmetry in low-lying states by far, with δ=209(96), is found in the transition to the first 1^{+} excited state. Shell-model calculation with isospin-nonconserving forces, including the T=1, J=2, 3 interaction related to the s_{1/2} orbit that introduces explicitly the isospin-symmetry breaking force and describes the loosely bound nature of the wave functions of the s_{1/2} orbit, can reproduce the observed data well and consistently explain the observation that a large δ value occurs for the first but not for the second 1^{+} excited state of ^{22}Al. Our results, while supporting the proton-halo structure in ^{22}Al, might provide another means to identify halo nuclei.

Abstract

Stringy canonical forms are a class of integrals that provide $\alpha'$-deformations of the canonical form of any polytopes. For generalized associahedra of finite-type cluster algebra, there exist completely rigid stringy integrals, whose configuration spaces are the so-called binary geometries, and for classical types are associated with (generalized) scattering of particles and strings. In this paper we propose a large class of rigid stringy canonical forms for another class of polytopes, generalized permutohedra, which also include associahedra and cyclohedra as special cases (type $A_n$ and $B_n$ generalized associahedra). Remarkably, we find that the configuration spaces of such integrals are also binary geometries, which were suspected to exist for generalized associahedra only. For any generalized permutohedron that can be written as Minkowski sum of coordinate simplices, we show that its rigid stringy integral factorizes into products of lower integrals for massless poles at finite $\alpha'$, and the configuration space is binary although the $u$ equations take a more general form than those "perfect" ones for cluster cases. Moreover, we provide an infinite class of examples obtained by degenerations of type $A_n$ and $B_n$ integrals, which have perfect $u$ equations as well. Abstract

11 pags., 8 figs., 2 tabs., The β decay of the semimagic Sn isotopes Sn136,137,138 has been studied at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory at the RIKEN Nishina Center. The first experimental information on excited states was obtained for Sb137 while, in the case of Sb136, the established excitation scheme could be extended by ten previously unidentified levels. In the decay of the most-neutron-rich isotope Sn138, two γ rays were observed for the first time. The new experimental results, in combination with state-of-the-art shell-model calculations, provide the first information with respect to the evolution of the 0g7/2 and 1d5/2 proton single-particle states with increasing neutron number beyond N=84., We thank the staff of the RIKEN Nishina Center accelerator complex for providing high-intensity beams to the experiment. Abstract

We study the symbol and the alphabet for two-loop NMHV amplitudes in planar ${\cal N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills from the $\bar{Q}$ equations, which provide a first-principle method for computing multi-loop amplitudes. Starting from one-loop N${}^2$MHV ratio functions, we explain in detail how to use $\bar{Q}$ equations to obtain the total differential of two-loop $n$-point NMHV amplitudes, whose symbol contains letters that are algebraic functions of kinematics for $n\geq 8$. We present explicit formula with nice patterns for the part of the symbol involving algebraic letters for all multiplicities, and we find $17-2m$ multiplicative-independent letters for a given square root of Gram determinant, with $0\leq m\leq 4$ depending on the number of particles involved in the square root. We also observe that these algebraic letters can be found as poles of one-loop four-mass leading singularities with MHV or NMHV trees. As a byproduct of our algebraic results, we find a large class of components of two-loop NMHV, which can be written as differences of two double-pentagon integrals, particularly simple and absent of square roots. As an example, we present the complete symbol for $n=9$ whose alphabet contains $59\times 9$ rational letters, in addition to the $11 \times 9$ independent algebraic ones. Abstract

We investigate the use of hybrid equations of state in binary neutron-star simulations in full general relativity, where thermal effects are included in an approximate way through the adiabatic index $\Gamma_{\rm{th}}$. We employ a newly developed finite-temperature equation of state derived in the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach and carry out comparisons with the corresponding hybrid versions of the same equation of state, investigating how different choices of $\Gamma_{\rm{th}}$ affect the gravitational-wave signal and the hydrodynamical properties of the remnant. We also perform comparisons with the widely used SFHo equation of state, detailing the differences between the two cases. Overall, we determine that when using a hybrid equation of state in binary neutron-star simulations, the value of thermal adiabatic index $\Gamma_{\rm{th}} \approx 1.7$ best approximates the dynamical and thermodynamical behaviour of matter computed using complete, finite-temperature equations of state., Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures, accepted for publication in PRD

Abstract

Short-lived \(\alpha \) emitters with N = 128–131 and Z = 91–93 were studied in the fusion reaction ^40Ar + ^187Re using the digital pulse processing technique at the gas-filled recoil separator Spectrometer for Heavy Atom and Nuclear Structure (SHANS). Two new isotopes ^223,224Np were identified and the decay of 220 Pa was re-investigated through temporal and spatial correlations. The pileup signals were resolved by using the digital pulse processing technique. An \(\alpha \) decay with half-life of \(T_{1/2} = 2.15(_{52}^{100})\) μs and energy of \(E_{\alpha } = 9477(44)\) keV was attributed to ^223Np. Two \(\alpha \)-decay branches with half-life of \(T_{1/2} = 38(_{11}^{26})\) μs, \(\alpha \) energies of 9137(21) and 8868(60) keV were assigned to ^224Np, decaying to two excited states in ^220Pa. The results of ^223Np disprove the existence of a Z = 92 subshell closure.

Abstract

Motivated by reformulating Yangian invariants in planar ${\cal N}=4$ SYM directly as $d\log$ forms on momentum-twistor space, we propose a purely algebraic problem of determining the arguments of the $d\log$'s, which we call "letters", for any Yangian invariant. These are functions of momentum twistors $Z$'s, given by the positive coordinates $\alpha$'s of parametrizations of the matrix $C(\alpha)$, evaluated on the support of polynomial equations $C(\alpha) \cdot Z=0$. We provide evidence that the letters of Yangian invariants are related to the cluster algebra of Grassmannian $G(4,n)$, which is relevant for the symbol alphabet of $n$-point scattering amplitudes. For $n=6,7$, the collection of letters for all Yangian invariants contains the cluster ${\cal A}$ coordinates of $G(4,n)$. We determine algebraic letters of Yangian invariant associated with any "four-mass" box, which for $n=8$ reproduce the $18$ multiplicative-independent, algebraic symbol letters discovered recently for two-loop amplitudes., Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures; v3: minor updates to match the published version in JHEP

Abstract

An inelastic excitation and cluster-decay experiment ^{2}H(^{16}C,^{4}He+^{12}Be or ^{6}He+^{10}Be)^{2}H was carried out to investigate the linear-chain clustering structure in neutron-rich ^{16}C. For the first time, decay paths from the ^{16}C resonances to various states of the final nuclei were determined, thanks to the well-resolved Q-value spectra obtained from the threefold coincident measurement. The close-threshold resonance at 16.5 MeV is assigned as the J^{π}=0^{+} band head of the predicted positive-parity linear-chain molecular band with (3/2_{π}^{-})^{2}(1/2_{σ}^{-})^{2} configuration, according to the associated angular correlation and decay analysis. Other members of this band were found at 17.3, 19.4, and 21.6 MeV based on their selective decay properties, being consistent with the theoretical predictions. Another intriguing high-lying state was observed at 27.2 MeV which decays almost exclusively to ^{6}He+^{10}Be(∼6 MeV) final channel, corresponding well to another predicted linear-chain structure with the pure σ-bond configuration.

Abstract

The $^{12}\mathrm{C}(\ensuremath{\alpha},\ensuremath{\gamma})^{16}\mathrm{O}$ reaction is one of the most crucial reactions in nuclear astrophysics. The $E2$ external capture to the $^{16}\mathrm{O}$ ground state (GS) has not been emphasized in previous analyses but may make a significant contribution to the $^{12}\mathrm{C}(\ensuremath{\alpha},\ensuremath{\gamma})^{16}\mathrm{O}$ cross section depending on the value of the GS asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC). In the present work, we determine this ANC to be $337\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}45\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{fm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1/2}$ through the $^{12}\mathrm{C}(^{11}\mathrm{B},^{7}\mathrm{Li})^{16}\mathrm{O}$ reaction using a high-precision magnetic spectrograph. This sheds light on the existing large discrepancy of more than 2 orders of magnitude between the previously reported ANC values. Based on the new ANC, we experimentally constrain the GS external capture and show that through interference with the high energy tail of the ${2}^{+}$ subthreshold state, a substantial enhancement in the GS ${S}_{E2}(300)$ factor can be obtained ($70\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}7\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{keV}\text{ }\mathrm{b}$) compared to that of a recent review (45 keV b), resulting in an increase of the total $S$ factor from 140 to 162 keV b, which is now in good agreement with the value obtained by reproducing supernova nucleosynthesis calculations with the solar-system abundances. This work emphasizes that the external capture contribution for the ground state transition cannot be neglected in future analyses of the $^{12}\mathrm{C}(\ensuremath{\alpha},\ensuremath{\gamma})^{16}\mathrm{O}$ reaction.

Abstract

A puzzle has long existed for the α-cluster content in the near-threshold 7.54-MeV state of Be10. A new measurement was conducted to measure the cluster-decay partial width of this state using the reaction Be9(Be9,Be*10→α+He6)Be8 at 45-MeV beam energy. Special measures were taken to reduce the strong near-threshold background. The neutron-decay strength was also obtained based on the threefold coincident measurement. A cluster-decay branching ratio of (4.04±1.26)×10−4 is obtained, resulting in a reasonably large α-cluster spectroscopic factor. The present Rapid Communication confirms the formation of the σ-bond molecular rotational band headed by the 6.18-MeV state in Be10.

Abstract

We compute the symbol of the first two-loop amplitudes in planar ${\cal N}=4$ SYM with algebraic letters, the eight-point NMHV amplitude (or the dual octagon Wilson loops). We show how to apply $\bar{Q}$ equations for computing the differential of two-loop $n$-point NMHV amplitudes and present the result for n=8 explicitly. The symbol alphabet for octagon consists of 180 independent rational letters and 18 algebraic ones involving Gram-determinant square roots. Abstract

$\beta$ decay of $^{26}$P was used to populate the astrophysically important $E_x=$5929.4(8) keV $J^{\pi}=3{^+}$ state of $^{26}$Si. Both $\beta$-delayed proton at 418(8) keV and gamma ray at 1742(2) keV emitted from this state were measured simultaneously for the first time with corresponding absolute intensities of 11.1(12)\% and 0.59(44)\%, respectively. Besides, shell model calculations with weakly bound effects were performed to investigate the decay properties of other resonant states and a spin-parity of $4^+$ rather than $0^+$ was favored for the $E_x=$5945.9(40) keV state. Combining the experimental results and theoretical calculations, $^{25}$Al($p,\gamma$)$^{26}$Si reaction rate in explosive hydrogen burning environments was calculated and compared with previous studies.

Abstract

We investigate properties of nuclear matter and examine possible correlations with neutron star observables for a set of microscopic nuclear equations of state derived within the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock formalism employing compatible three-body forces. We find good candidates for a realistic nuclear EOS up to high density and confirm strong correlations between neutron star radius, tidal deformability, and the pressure of betastable matter. Abstract

A new 11Be( d , p )12Be transfer reaction experiment was carried out in inverse kinematics at 26.9A MeV, with special efforts devoted to the determination of the deuteron target thickness and of the required optical potentials from the present elastic scattering data. In addition a direct measurement of the cross section for the 0 2 + state was realized by applying an isomer-tagging technique. The s-wave spectroscopic factors of 0.20 − 0.04 + 0.03 and 0.41 − 0.11 + 0.11 were extracted for the 0 1 + and 0 2 + states, respectively, in 12Be. Using the ratio of these spectroscopic factors, together with the previously reported results for the p-wave components, the single-particle component intensities in the bound 0 + states of 12Be were deduced, allowing a direct comparison with the theoretical predictions. It is evidenced that the ground-state configuration of 12Be is dominated by the d-wave intruder, exhibiting a dramatic evolution of the intruding mechanism from 11Be to 12Be, with a persistence of the N = 8 magic number broken.

Abstract

The N = 130 short-lived isotope 223 Np was produced as evaporation residue (ER) in the fusion reaction 40 Ar + 187 Re at the gas-filled recoil separator Spectrometer for Heavy Atom and Nuclear Structure (SHANS). It was identified through temporal and spatial correlations with α decays of 215 Ac and/or 211 Fr, the third and fourth members of the α -decay chain starting from 223 Np. The pileup signals of ER( 223 Np)– α ( 223 Np)– α ( 219 Pa) were resolved by using the digital pulse processing technique. An α decay with half-life of T 1 / 2 = 2.15 ( 52 100 ) μs and energy of E α = 9477 ( 44 ) keV was attributed to 223 Np. Spin and parity of 9 / 2 − were tentatively proposed for the ground state of 223 Np by combining the reduced α -decay width and large-scale shell-model calculations. This assignment together with the proton separation energy disprove the existence of a Z = 92 subshell closure.

Abstract

The heavy ion fusion–evaporation reaction study for the high-spin spectroscopy of 75As has been performed via the reaction channel 70Zn(9Be, 1p3n)75As at a beam energy of 42 MeV. The collective structure especially a dipole band in 75As is established for the first time. The properties of this dipole band are investigated in terms of the self-consistent tilted axis cranking covariant density functional theory. Based on the theoretical description and the examination of the angular momentum components, this dipole band can be interpreted as a novel stapler band, where the valence neutrons in ( 1 g 9 / 2 ) orbital rather than the collective core are responsible for the closing of the stapler of angular momentum.

Abstract

The half-lives of seven nuclei have been determined in the neutron-deficient mass-70 region following their production via fragmentation of a 345 MeV/nucleon Xe124 primary beam on a 740 mg/cm2 Be9 target at the RI Beam Factory, RIKEN. The results include two new (Sr73 and Y76) half-lives and a more precise measurement for the ground-state half-life of Sr74. The new results are discussed with reference to previously published calculations that predict the location of the proton dripline in the light Sr and Y region of the nuclear chart. In addition, differences in the ground-state structure of Rb72 and Y76 are discussed with the aid of density functional theory calculations. These provide a possible explanation for why Rb72 undergoes proton decay while the α-conjugate nucleus Y76 predominantly undergoes β+ decay.

Abstract

We present the first experimental determination on the spectroscopic amplitudes (SAs) for the α-cluster in the B 11 ground state via the Li 7 ( Li 6 , d ) 11 B reaction using a high-precision magnetic spectrograph. This is believed to have a strong effect on the studies of α-induced reactions which are crucial in nuclear astrophysics. It is found that the previous SAs of B 11 from shell model calculations cause overestimations of up to 23% for the C 12 ( α , γ ) 16 O S E 2 ( 300 ) factor and up to 34% for the C 13 ( α , n ) 16 O S ( 190 ) factor with respect to the results from the present experimentally determined SAs. Due to the importance of these two reactions, for example the uncertainty in the C 12 ( α , γ ) 16 O cross section at E c.m. = 300 keV is required to be better than 10% by stellar modeling, the new S-factors could result in a potential influence on the astrophysical network calculations.

Previously unknown associated gamma-ray decay energies are reported for each nuclide, and through evaluating the intensity of the 2+ → 0+ E2 transition in the even-even palladium daughter nuclei, 120,122,124Pd, from the beta-tagged gamma-ray spectra an upper or lower limit of beta-delayed neutron emission is deduced for each nuclei. Abstract

Background: Beta-decay spectroscopy provides valuable nuclear physics input for thermonuclear reaction rates of astrophysical interest and stringent test for shell-model theories far from the stability line. Purpose: The available decay properties of proton drip-line nucleus $^{27}$S is insufficient to constrain the properties of the key resonance in $^{26}$Si$(p,\gamma)^{27}$P reaction rate and probe the possible isospin asymmetry. The decay scheme of $^{27}$S is complicated and far from being understood, which has motivated but also presented challenges for our experiment. Method: The $^{27}$S ions were implanted into a double-sided silicon strip detector array surrounded by the high-purity germanium detectors, where the $\beta$-delayed protons and $\gamma$ rays were measured simultaneously. Results: The improved spectroscopic properties including the precise half-life of $^{27}$S, the excitation energies, $\beta$-decay branching ratios, log~$ft$ values, and $B$(GT) values for the states of $^{27}$P populated in the $\beta$ decay of $^{27}$S were measured and compared to the $^{27}$Mg mirror states and the shell-model calculations. The present work has expanded greatly on the previously established decay scheme of $^{27}$S. Conclusions: The precise proton-separation energy of $^{27}$P, the energy and the ratio between $\gamma$ and proton partial widths of the $3/2^+$ resonance were obtained, thereby determining the $^{26}$Si$(p,\gamma)^{27}$P reaction rate based mainly on experimental constraints. The first evidence for the observation of a large isospin asymmetry for the mirror decays of $^{27}$S and $^{27}$Na is also provided. The experimental spectroscopic information can be reproduced by the shell-model calculation taking the weakly bound effect of the proton $1s_{1/2}$ orbit into account.

Abstract

The β-delayed γ-ray spectroscopy of neutron-rich 123;125Ag isotopes is investigated at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory of RIKEN and the long-predicted 1/2¯ β-emitting isomers in 123;125Ag are identified for the first time. With the new experimental results, the systematic trend of energy spacing between the lowest 9/2+ and 1/2¯ levels is extended in Ag isotopes up to N = 78, providing a clear signal for the reduction of the Z = 40 subshell gap in Ag towards N = 82. Shellmodel calculations with the state-of-the-art VMU plus M3Y spin-orbit interaction give a satisfactory description of the low-lying states in 123;125Ag. The tensor force is found to play a crucial role in the evolution of the size of the Z = 40 subshell gap. The observed inversion of the single particle levels around 123Ag can be well interpreted in terms of the monopole shift of the π1g9/2 orbitals mainly caused by the increasing occupation of ʋ1h11/2 orbitals.

Abstract

Fine structure in the $\alpha$ decay of $^{223}$U was observed in the fusion-evaporation reaction $^{187}$Re($^{40}$Ar, p3n) by using fast digital pulse processing technique. Two $\alpha$-decay branches of $^{223}$U feeding the ground state and 244 keV excited state of $^{219}$Th were identified by establishing the decay chain $^{223}$U $\xrightarrow{\alpha_{1}}$ $^{219}$Th $\xrightarrow{\alpha_{2}}$ $^{215}$Ra $\xrightarrow{\alpha_{3}}$ $^{211}$Rn. The $\alpha$-particle energy for the ground-state to ground-state transition of $^{223}$U was determined to be 8993(17) keV, 213 keV higher than the previous value, the half-life was updated to be 62$^{+14}_{-10}$ $\mu$s. Evolution of nuclear structure for $N$ = 131 even-$Z$ isotones from Po to U was discussed in the frameworks of nuclear mass and reduced $\alpha$-decay width, a weakening octupole deformation in the ground state of $^{223}$U relative to its lighter isotones $^{219}$Ra and $^{221}$Th was suggested., Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures
