Construction materials, among which concrete is by far the most used, have followed a trend of continuously increasing demand in real estate. A relatively small number of research works have been published on the long-term material properties of concrete in comparison to studies reporting their findings at standard curing ages of 28 days. This is due, in part, to the length of time one must wait until the intended age of concrete is reached. The present paper contributes to filling this gap of information in terms of the strength and dynamic elastic properties of concrete. The dynamic modulus of elasticity may be used to assess the static modulus of elasticity (Young’s modulus), a key property used during the design stage of a structure, in a non-destructive manner. This paper presents the results obtained from laboratory tests on the long-term (6 years) characterization of concrete from the point of view of dynamic shear and longitudinal moduli of elasticity, dynamic Poisson’s ratio, static modulus of elasticity, compressive and tensile splitting strengths, and their change depending on the concrete strength class.

The paper presents the results of a research work aimed at assessing the long-term strength and elastic properties of rubberized concrete. The parameters of the research were the rubber replacement of fine aggregates and the age of testing the specimens. Compressive and splitting tensile strength of concrete cylinders were obtained at the age of 5 years, coupled with the static and dynamic modulus of elasticity of all concrete specimens. Additionally, the material damping coefficient was assessed by means of non-destructive tests. The density of the rubberized concrete decreases with the percentage replacement of natural sand by rubber aggregates. A significant drop in the values of density after 5 years was observed for specimens made with rubberized concrete. The static and the dynamic moduli of elasticity decrease with the increase in rubber content. A similar trend is observed for the compressive and tensile splitting strength.

This article deals with the development of an anti-flood board to protect the interior and exterior of various infrastructures, such a houses, cottages or industrial buildings. It was designed prototypes and assembled numerical simulations. In Central Europe and in particular in the Czech Republic, floods are an integral part of the natural water cycle and cause great loss of life and great property damage. The development of new types of mobile anti-flood boards is very important as the design solution is developed for flood protection with regard to minimizing weight, cost of production, easy manipulation, simplicity and speed of installation.

This article deals with a prototype concept, real experiment and numerical simulation of a layered industrial fire shutter, based on some new insulating composite materials. The real fire shutter has been developed and optimized in laboratory and subsequently tested in the certified test room. A simulation of whole concept has been carried out as the non-premixed combustion process in the commercial final volume sw Pyrosim. Model of the combustion based on a stoichiometric defined mixture of gas and the tested layered samples showed good conformity with experimental results – i.e. thermal distribution inside and heat release rate that has gone through the sample.

This paper deals with testing and numerical simulating of flood barriers. The Czech Republic has been hit by several very devastating floods in past years. These floods caused several dozens of causalities and property damage reached billions of Euros. The development of flood measures is very important, especially for the reduction the number of casualties and the amount of property damage. The aim of flood control measures is the detention of water outside populated areas and drainage of water from populated areas as soon as possible. For new flood barrier design it is very important to know its behaviour in case of a real flood. During the development of the barrier several standardized tests have to be carried out. Based on the results from these tests numerical simulation was compiled using Abaqus software and some analyses were carried out. Based on these numerical simulations it will be possible to predict the behaviour of barriers and thus improve their design.

This article deals with a prototype concept, real experiment and numerical simulation of a combustion chamber, designed for testing fire resistance some new insulating composite materials. This concept of a device used for testing various materials, providing possibility of monitoring temperatures during controlled gas combustion. As a fuel for the combustion process propane butane mixture has been used and also several kinds of burners with various conditions of inlet air (forced, free) and fuel flows were tested. The tested samples were layered sandwich materials based on various materials or foams, used as fillers in fire shutters. The temperature distribution was measured by using thermocouples. A simulation of whole concept of experimental chamber has been carried out as the non-premixed combustion process in the commercial final volume sw Pyrosim. The result was to design chamber with a construction suitable, according to the international standards, achieve the required values (temperature in time). Model of the combustion based on a stoichiometric defined mixture of gas and the tested layered samples showed good conformity with experimental results – i.e. thermal distribution inside and heat release rate that has gone through the sample.

This paper deals with study of a new shape of the glass cover of heat convectors. Design of the heat convectors is characterized by the low water volume, highly variable geometry, adjustable heat output and the pressure losses that arise when the fluid flow through the exchanger. Based on a new concept of a slumped glass cover of the exchanger have been created some numerical models and also carried out experiments in order to find and optimize an appropriate shape. The glass materials are very specific mainly due to their specific shaping abilities and technological capabilities of manufacturing. The aim is to determine an appropriate shape and a curvature of the glass body and also the position and size of the exchanger. It has been found a significant dependence of the heat exchanger position on to the total heat output of an entire device. Simultaneously has been proved also the dependence of a shape of the cover plate, to the total heat output, that is more considerably for natural than for the forced convection.
