Abstract

Structure information of 11Li halo nucleus has been obtained from the inclusive break-up measurements of the 11Li+208Pb reactions at energies around the Coulomb barrier (Elab = 24.3 and 29.8 MeV). The effective break-up energy and the slope of B(E1) distribution close to the threshold have been extracted from the experimental data.

Abstract

5 pages, 4 figures.--PACS nrs.: 25.10.+s; 21.10.Gv; 21.45.+v; 27.20.+n.--ArXiv pre-print available at: http://arxiv.org/abs/nucl-ex/0101004v2., Three-body correlations in the dissociation of two-neutron halo nuclei are explored using a technique based on intensity interferometry and Dalitz plots. This approach provides for the combined treatment of both the n-n and core-n interactions in the exit channel. As an example, the breakup of Be-14 into Be-12 + n + n by Pb and C targets has been analyzed and the halo n-n separation extracted. Evidence for a finite delay between the emission of the neutrons in the reaction on the C target was observed and is attributed to Be-13 resonances populated in sequential breakup., This work was funded under the auspices of the IN2P3-CNRS (France) and EPSRC (United Kingdom). Abstract

TACTIC (TACTIC web site: http://tactic.triumf.ca) is a new detector for low-energy nuclear reactions currently under development at TRIUMF. The cylindrical ionization chamber allows three-dimensional reconstruction of particle tracks by means of a two-dimensional anode array combined with a TOF measurement of the drift electrons. In addition, the integrated charge for each pulse provides information about the energy loss of the particle and therefore allows a better identification of the nuclear species producing the track. The geometry of TACTIC covers a large angular range permitting the measurement of differential cross-sections over a large solid angle. It will be ideal for investigations of nuclear processes pertinent to the field of nuclear astrophysics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The heavy ion radiative capture reaction 12C(12C,γ) has been investigated around a beam energy of 16 MeV. The total cross-section has been measured with the Fragment Mass Analyser at Argonne National Laboratory and found to be somewhat larger than has previously been measured. A subsequent measurement with the Gammasphere array has shown that a considerable proportion of this extra cross-section relates to a highly non-statistical decay through high-lying states in 24Mg. © 2004 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The nuclear structure of states in 12C have been a subject of interest for both theory and experiment since the early days of nuclear physics. Many open questions remain, especially concerning the existence and properties of 0+ and 2+ states in the triple alpha continuum. A series of experiments have been performed using β-decay of 12N and 12B to probe these states. The latest experiment was performed at KVI using an implantation method, measuring the sum energy of the three α-particles directly. Preliminary results from this experiment will be presented. Abstract

Using the very precise value of the baryonic density of the Universe recently obtained by WMAP, Big Bang Nucleosynthesis calculations predict a primordial 7Li abundance which is a factor 2 – 3 higher than that observed in galactic halo dwarf stars. Up to now, the role of the 7Be(d,p)2α reaction has been neglected. We have studied this reaction, for the first time at energies appropriate to the Big Bang environment, at the CYCLONE facility at Louvain-la-Neuve using a radioactive 7Be beam.
