Aim: Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is characterised by chronic pain, swelling, and vasomotor dysfunction. The disorder often gradually leads to muscle dystrophy, bone defects, and decreased limb function. The etiology of this condition has not been fully established. Aim. To analyse the physical therapy in CRPS patients treated at the Division of Physical Medicine of the Department of Rehabilitation in 2012-2022. Materials and Methods: The study involved a group of 58 patients after distal epiphyseal fractures of the forearm and crus. Testing concerned the following: hand or foot skin temperature, hand grip strength, pain intensity, bone radiographs, and psychosomatic profile according to Zung's scale. Physical therapy included whirlpool massage, lidocaine and calcium iontophoresis, variable low frequency magnetic fields, and kinesiotherapy. Results: After 6-week treatment, we achieved full clinical improvement in 82% of the patients and partial improvement in 18% (these were patients in whom the treatment was introduced at an advanced stage of the disorder). conclusions: 1. Cerebral palsy is a non-progressive functional disorder affecting the developing central nervous system, predominantly motor neurons, whose onset occurs during pregnancy, delivery or in the perinatal period. The incidence of cerebral palsy ranges from 1.5 to 2.5 per 1,000 live births. Brain damage due to periventricular leukomalacia and intraventricular haemorrhage in newborns is the most common cause of cerebral palsy. This paper presents the clinical picture of a girl with cerebral palsy. The child experienced perinatal hypoxia, which resulted in central nervous system damage and changes in the form of periventricular leukomalacia. Initially, she exhibited considerable axial hypotonia and upper and lower limb hypotonia. Rehabilitation was promptly initiated using a combination of multiple neurological methods, for example Vojta's method, NDT Bobath therapy and PNF. The rehabilitation produced the desired effects, with the child achieving better motor control with respect to trunk and head stabilisation. She began using orthopaedic aids and undergoing verticalisation at the age of two years. She started experimental stem cell treatment in 2016. Currently her therapy takes place five times a week. The child is able to walk a short distance when she is being held by her arms. She acquires new skills and learns fast and has a wide vocabulary. She is motivated and determined to continue her rehabilitation in order to achieve her dream of walking with a walker by herself. In recent years, the number of implanted pacemakers has been increasing. The number of patients with cardiac pacemakers reporting to physiotherapy departments and referred for further treatment at spa hospitals has been increasing. There is an urgent need for popularising knowledge about this issue among physicians and physiotherapists. The paper presents examples of individual pacing modes and describes possible use of physiotherapy in the patients. Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the efficacy of physical therapy methods used in AS patients. Materials and Methods: The study group comprised of 30 individuals with ankylosing spondylitis aged 30 to 67 years, including 5 women and 25 men. The mean age was 43.4 years in women and 41.76 years in men. The largest patient group consisted of men aged 30 to 40 years. All patients lived in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship. The study used a diagnostic survey based on a questionnaire created by the authors. Study patients underwent physical therapy in the form of electrotherapy, laser therapy, ultrasound therapy, magnetic field therapy, cryotherapy, kinesiotherapy and massage. Results: The study showed that physical therapy reduced pain severity and increased the level of everyday functioning. Both the sign test (p-value≈0) and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test (p-value≈0) showed a significant difference in pain severity measured before rehabilitation vs. after rehabilitation (significance level, α=0.05). conclusions: Physical therapy and rehabilitation is a key part of treatment in this group of patients. Aim: Temporomandibular joint dysfunction is a common and difficult clinical problem. To present the use of physical therapy in patients with temporomandibular joint dysfunctions. materials and methods: The paper presents the etiopathogenesis and clinical presentation of temporomandibular joint dysfunctions as well as patient cases and describes physical therapy in joint dysfunction, including the methods and equipment used to perform the procedures. Conclusion: The paper stresses the importance of physical therapy in the treatment of temporomandibular joint dysfunctions. Aim: Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide, with breast cancer being the most commonly occurring cancer in women. In Poland and in most of the other European countries, breast cancer constitutes 21% of all cancer cases. The aetiology of breast cancer has not yet been fully determined. Early detection offers a better chance of cure. Materials and Methods: The study group consisted of 23 female patients from the breast cancer support group at the Specialist Hospital in Radom. The patients underwent rehabilitation. The study used a research tool in the form of a survey developed by the authors, which helped collect sociodemographic and health data. The data were statistically analysed and the presence of statistically significant differences was checked with a chi-squared test. The results were presented as a proportion (%) of the study group. Results: The results of the study show that rehabilitation had a significant impact on the quality of life. Study patients described the physical therapy they received during and after hospitalisation as excellent. Introduction: Stroke is one of the most serious health problems of the modern society. Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the effects of 6-month home-based rehabilitation in stroke patients. Material and Methods: The study included 37 patients (35% were women and 65% were men) after ischaemic stroke. Study patients received 6-month home-based physical therapy in Kielce County (Gmina Chęciny and Gmina Łopuszno). The study used the Barthel Index, the Timed Up and Go Test and the Modified Rankin Scale. Physical therapy included kinesiotherapy methods (such as active and assisted exercises), physiotherapy methods (electrotherapy, laser therapy) and special methods (PNF and kinesiotaping). Results: The study showed significant differences in the results between the pre- and post-rehabilitation assessments. Before rehabilitation, the majority of study patients (22 people, 60%) scored between 21 and 85 points according to the Barthel Index, which suggests moderately severe disability. After rehabilitation, this number was reduced to 20 patients (54%). With respect to the Timed Up and Go Test, most study patients (25 people, 68%) both before and after rehabilitation needed 10 to 19 seconds to perform the test, indicating limited functional mobility. The degree of disability according to the Modified Rankin Scale was 4 in 23 study patients (62%) before rehabilitation and in 27 study patients (73%) after rehabilitation. A total of 8 study patients (22%) before rehabilitation had very severe disability with a result of 5 according to the Modified Rankin Scale; only 3 study patients (0.1%) did not show any improvement after rehabilitation. Conclusions: 1. Home-based physiotherapy performed over a period of 6 months had a very beneficial influence on increasing independence in stroke patients. 2. Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the quality of life and physical therapy used in patients after knee arthroplasty. Materials and Methods: The study involved 20 patients after surgical treatment with knee arthroplasty staying at the in-patient rehabilitation centre in Osieczek. The patients underwent physical therapy and rehabilitation. Results: Following 3-week treatment, study patients showed better mobility, pain elimination and an improved quality of life. Further management included recommendations with respect to regular physical activity and maintaining a normal body weight. Conclusions: 1. Osteoarthritis is the most common cause of disability in patients. 2. Arthroplasty has a beneficial influence on the subjective and objective condition of patients. 3. The procedure helped increase mobility, improved the quality of life and eliminated pain in the patients. 4. Introduction: Cervical pain syndromes constitute a difficult diagnostic and therapeutic problem. Their main causes include abnormal load, microtrauma, and damage to intervertebral discs, joint capsules, ligaments, and muscles. Aim: To assess the effects of physical therapy on pain, range of spinal mobility, and quality of life in patients with cervical discopathy. Materials and Methods: The study assessed a group of 31 patients, including 16 women and 15 men, aged 26 to 65 years, who had been diagnosed with discopathy at the C5-6 and C6-7 level. The patients underwent 3-week physical therapy with electrotherapy, ultrasound therapy, laser therapy and kinesiotherapy. Results: The physical therapy used in study patients improved their spinal mobility, had a positive influence on the subjective feeling of pain, reducing or eliminating it completely, and allowed the patients to return to normal everyday functioning. Conclusions: 1. Cervical pain syndromes constitute a difficult diagnostic and therapeutic problem. 2. Aim: The main aim of the study was to assess the effects of hip arthroplasty and rehabilitation on pain, physical fitness and everyday functioning. Materials and Methods: The study involved 25 HOA patients, including 19 women and 6 men, after hip arthroplasty. The patients were assessed before and after the procedure. The results were used to conduct descriptive, graphical and statistical analyses. Results: Surgical treatment and rehabilitation improved joint mobility and had a positive influence and the subjective feeling of pain, resulting in pain reduction or elimination. The treatment also increased the patients' ability to ambulate. Conclusions: 1. HOA is a common diagnostic and therapeutic problem that affects more women than men. 2. Since the study showed a high overweight and obesity rate, it is important to educate patients about the effects of physical activity on controlling one's body weight and inform them that overweight and obesity are risk factors for HOA. 3. The treatment used in study patients reduced or eliminated the pain, improved joint mobility and increased the patients' ability to ambulate, which had a positive effect on the quality of life. Introduction: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, progressive, demyelinating disease of the central nervous system. 2.5 million people are affected by MS worldwide; in Poland, the number of patients is approximately 40,000. Patients with multiple sclerosis suffer from a number of symptoms associated with this disease. Aim of the research: To assess the effectiveness of physiotherapy in MS. Material and methods: The study enrolled 25 MS patients aged 27-72 years (including 16 females and 9 males), undergoing 6-week rehabilitation. They were examined twice: before and after rehabilitation. The study used two questionnaires created by the author. Evaluation of the clinical status and disease severity was based on the Kurtzke Expanded Disability Status Scales (EDSS), the Lawton Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) Scale, and the Multiple Sclerosis Impact Scale (MSIS-29). The results were analysed with Student's t-test and the chi-square (?2) test. Results: Statistical analysis showed significant (the level of significance was 0.05) progress in the functional status of the patients after physiotherapy, as evidenced by improved results with respect to the motor efficiency in the Kurtzke Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), the functional assessment in the Lawton Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) Scale, and the influence of MS on patients' daily life in the Multiple Sclerosis Impact Scale (MSIS-29) seen in the majority of the patients, which confirms a positive impact of the therapy. Conclusions: In the study group, comprehensive rehabilitation had a beneficial influence on the improvement of functional status and the level of motor ability. Schwartz-Jampel syndrome (SJS) is a rare genetic disorder characterised by myotonia and bone dysplasia. It is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait and caused by mutations in the gene encoding perlecan (HSPG2). Its symptoms include muscular stiffness and hypertrophy. The aim of the study was to analyse the clinical presentation as well as the physical therapy and rehabilitation in a patient with SJS. A 16-year-old patient with SJS has been followed up by the authors for the last 2 years. We assessed the physical therapy and rehabilitation conducted at home and presented the possibilities of an extended programme that can be implemented at the multi-field Division of Physical Medicine.
