The article focuses on exercise and physical programs for older adults. Position Stand is designed to provide an overview of issues that are relevant in understanding the value of exercise and other physical activity for older adults. It has three sections including the review on the functional changes that characterizes human aging, the influence of physical activity into the aging process and the long-term and short-term benefits of exercise in older population. It mentions that no physical activity has proven to stop the aging process but there is evidence that regular exercise can limit the development of chronic diseases. It suggests that older population should engage in physical activity regularly such as aerobic exercise and flexibility exercises and should avoid inactivity.
