Abstract: This paper presents a new fuzzy logic controller as a maximum power point tracker employing single-ended primary-inductor (SEPIC) converter. The new controller improves perturb and observe search method with rules to fuzzify and eliminate its drawbacks. An accurate and fast converging to maximum power point is offered by fuzzy logic tracker during both steady-state and varying weather conditions compared to conventional maximum power point tracking methods. The performance of the proposed maximum power point tracker is demonstrated in both simulation and experiment at different operating conditions. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The theme of this paper is a novel MPPT converter for battery charger. The converter combines both cuk and buck converters topologies to extract maximum power from photovoltaic arrays while supplying a controlled constant current/voltage to the battery simultaneously. The new topology uses two control signals instead of one control signal; one for maximum power point tracking, another for battery charger control providing constant current/voltage to the battery. The Advantage of this converter is to exploit the maximum power of the PV array avoiding battery damage caused by variable MPPT voltage. As a matter of fact, the tracking voltage that tracks the maximum power is variable according to weather irradiation conditions. However, batteries need constant voltage and current for charging to avoid the damage and to extend its lifetime. Therefore, it is reliable to combine the battery charger control and the maximum power exploitation using two control signals simultaneously. The real-time implementation of the cuk-buck converter was carried in TMS320F28335 DSP. A 4kW prototype system was built and four 12V 100Ah batteries were used. The effectiveness of the proposed converter was tested in both simulation and experiment in various operating conditions. The experiment results verified that the PV power obtained of the two control signal converter was exploited better than that of one control signal and that battery's full charging state was reached in a relatively short time. Abstract Application of Classical Numerical Methods (CNM) for Digital maximum power point tracking (DMPPT) confronts many issues. The issues highlighted in this paper include limited range of operation, PV array dependence and accuracy of the initial guess. In order to address such shortcomings of CNM for DMPPT, Hybrid Techniques (HT) have been proposed. The HT are a combination of the modified incremental conductance method (MINC) and various modified CNM. An overview of the considered MCNM, which are applied to the photovoltaic (PV) application, has also been provided. The HT not only address the issues confronted by the CNM, but also improve the transient response time and remove the steady state oscillations for the conventional MPPT technique. In addition, for DMPPT the DC-DC converter topology under consideration cannot be treated as a black box, by ignoring the effects of the converter topology and control dynamics. Here, a theoretical analysis has been provided to ascertain the optimum performance of DMPPT applications on various DC-DC converter designs. To measure the effectiveness of the proposed HT, Boost, 2-Stage Switch Capacitor Based (2-SSC) Boost, and Optimum Buck Converters (OBC) have been employed.
