The purpose of the CALAS project is the study of supergranulation, a large scale pattern on the photosphere. The origin of supergranulation is still quite controversed and needs observations with very high spatial resolution on a wide field of view. The CALAS project is an answer to those requirements by building a camera with large field and high resolution, installed at Lunette Jean Rösch, a 50cm refractor on top of Pic du Midi. This camera uses CMOS sensors which advantages are the reading speed, the low cost and large dimensions available. We made a complete acquisition syste: the camera and its control and reading electronics with its acquiring software, along with a suitable disk system for the large amount of data.The other part of the project was to design an optical bench on two optical channels allowing the observation of the solar surface both with imagery and with Doppler and magnetography, using magneto-optical filters. Part of the work also consisted in adapting and improving Lunette Jean Rösch.During this project I made numerous observing missions at LJR and also participated a Joint Observing Programwhich purpose was the study of the photospheric flows in the vincinity of filaments.At the end of this thesis, the first large field and high resolution observationsof the photosphere have been made at Lunette Jean Rösch, and their quality is quite promising for the next scientific use.; L'objet du projet CALAS est l'étude de la supergranulation solaire, structure à grande échelle de la photosphère. L'origine de la supergranulation est encore controversée et nécessite des observations à très haute résolution spatiale sur un grand champ de vue. Le projet CALAS répond à ces exigences en proposant de concevoir une caméra rapide combinant grand champ et haute résolution, installée à la Lunette Jean Rösch, réfracteur de 50 cm de diamètre situé au Pic du Midi. Cette caméra utilise des capteurs CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semi-conductor) dont les avantages sont notamment la rapidité de lecture, le coût réduit et de grands formats disponibles.Nous avons conçu une chaîne d'acquisition complète, comprenant la caméra et son électronique de commande, une électronique de lecture couplée à un logiciel de prise de vues, et un système de stockage des données.Le projet a également consisté à concevoir un banc optique sur deux voies permettant l'observation de la surface solaire en mode imagerie mais aussi en mode Doppler et magnétographie, par l'utilisation d'un filtre magnéto-optique. Le travail a également nécessité d'étudier l'intégration de CALAS au sein de la Lunette Jean Rösch, en participant à la jouvence de cet instrument.Enfin, au cours de ce projet, outre de nombreuses missions d'observation à la Lunette Jean Rösch, j'ai également été amené à participer à une campagne internationale d'observations coordonnées consacrée à l'étude des mouvements de la photosphère dans l'environnement de filaments. A l'issue de cette thèse, les premières observations à grand champ et haute résolution de la photosphère solaire ont été réalisées à la LJR, et leur excellente qualité se révèle déjà tout à fait prometteuse pour la suite de l'exploitation scientifique.

Rieutord Directeur de thèse; Velocity fields measurements of turbulent flows in the solar photosphere reveal three distinct horizontal scales: granulation (1 000 km), mesogranulation (7 000 km) and supergranulation (30 000 km). Granulation is known to result from radiative cooling of hot ascending gas close to the surface, but the origin of mesogranulation and supergranulation remains largely unknown. Several convection models were developed in the course of this PhD research in order to investigate possible formation mechanisms for these large-scale flows. A theoretical study of the convective instability in the linear regime has first been attempted. The model relies on a fully compressible description of the fluid movements when a vertical permanent magnetic field and fixed thermal flux boundary conditions (that are relevant on large scales) are imposed. Very elongated convection cells are shown to be preferred as convection sets in and scales comparable to supergranulation can be obtained for realistic values of the magnetic field. Direct numerical simulations of fully compressible turbulent convection in a very large aspect ratio domain have then been carried out to investigate turbulent dynamics on large scales. These simulations have been performed using a DNS code which was partly developed during the thesis. Two distinct scales come out of the numerical experiment: the first one is comparable to granulation and is only found in the surface layers. The second one is an energetic mesoscale with horizontal extent larger than the granular pattern but still smaller than the size of the computational domain. It is visible at all depths and is found to have a genuine convective origin. As solar mesogranulation bears some resemblance with this pattern, it is conjectured that it may be the dominant convective scale below the photospheric surface and would be partly hidden by granulation. A third approach has finally been proposed, that deals with the possibility that supergranulation may result from a large-scale instability of granulation. The first steps towards a computation of turbulent transport coefficients of convective flows have been done by developing a code based on the mean-field hydrodynamic theories of the AKA effect and turbulent viscosity.; Les mesures des champs de vitesse turbulents dans la photosphère solaire font apparaître trois échelles horizontales distinctes : la granulation (1~000~km), la mésogranulation (7~000~km), et la supergranulation (30~000~km). La granulation résulte du refroidissement radiatif brutal à la surface du gaz chaud et montant. En revanche, l'origine de la mésogranulation et de la supergranulation est en grande partie inconnue. Au cours de cette thèse, plusieurs modèles de convection ont été élaborés afin de mettre en évidence des mécanismes de formation de ces écoulements à grande échelle. Une première approche théorique a consisté à étudier l'instabilité convective dans le domaine linéaire en présence de champ magnétique, de stratification en densité, et de conditions aux limites de flux thermique, pertinentes aux grandes échelles. Cette étude a montré que des cellules de convection très allongées étaient favorisées et qu'une échelle supergranulaire pouvait être obtenue pour des valeurs réalistes de champ magnétique. Dans un deuxième temps, des simulations numériques directes de convection turbulente compressible avec un rapport d'aspect très important ont été réalisées afin d'étudier la dynamique aux grandes échelles. Ces simulations, effectuées à l'aide d'un code DNS développé en partie durant la thèse, ont permis de mettre en évidence la formation de deux échelles horizontales distinctes. La première, comparable à la granulation, n'est visible qu'à proximité de la surface. La seconde est une mésoéchelle très énergétique, de taille intermédiaire entre la dimension horizontale du domaine et la granulation. Elle est présente à toutes les profondeurs et son origine est convective. La mésogranulation solaire, au vu de ses ressemblances avec ce motif, pourrait donc dominer la dynamique convective sous la surface tout en étant masquée par la granulation. Une troisième approche, visant à étudier la possibilité que la supergranulation résulte d'une instabilité à grande échelle de la granulation, a finalement été proposée. A cette fin, les premiers pas vers un calcul de coefficients de transport turbulent pour des écoulements convectifs ont été faits en développant un code s'appuyant sur le formalisme de théories hydrodynamiques de champ moyen pour l'effet AKA et la viscosité turbulente.
