We present design and optimization of a 16-channel, 100 GHz colorless arrayed waveguide gratings multiplexer/demultiplexer for new generation networks based on a hybrid configuration. The AWG was designed for a central wavelength of 1.55 µm and simulated in the wavelength range between 1.5 µm and 1.6 µm. The AWG was designed using the specially developed standalone tool "AWG-Parameters". The AWG structure was created and simulated using Apollo Photonics' commercial design tool. We present design and simulation of the low loss silicon nitride based AWG applying our proprietary AWGParameters tool. The AWG was designed for TM-polarized light with a central wavelength of 850 nm and simulated applying commercial photonic tool PHASAR from Optiwave. The achieved transmission characteristics were evaluated by AWG-Analyser tool. We reached a very good agreement between the designed and simulated transmission parameters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We present simulation of 8-channel, 100-GHz silicon nitride based AWGs using three different commercial photonics tools, namely PHASAR from Optiwave Systems Inc., APSS from Apollo Photonics Inc. and RSoft from Synopsys Inc. For this purpose we created identical waveguide structures and identical AWG layouts in these tools and performed BPM simulations. For the simulations the same calculation conditions were used. These AWGs were designed for TM-polarized light with an AWG central wavelength of 850 nm. The output of simulations, the transmission characteristics, were used to calculate the transmission parameters defining optical properties of simulated AWGs.
