Abstract: The electronic structures of double perovskites have been investigated by employing photoemission spectroscopy (PES), soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), and soft X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) near the Fe absorption edge. The substitution of ions for ions causes the increasing component in the mixed-valent states, but little difference in the Fe 2p XMCD spectra. As x increases, the photoemission intensity near the Fermi level decreases, which indicates the decreasing carriers and the decreasing bandwidth of the itinerant states. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The Ce 4f electronic structure of a CDW system has been investigated using high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). By employing the fine-structure (FS) resonance, the Ce 4f ARPES spectra have been measured. The FS resonance ARPES shows a typical two-peak structure with the peaks at and , in which the latter peak shifts with increasing emission angle by . The Ce 4f states have the negligibly small intensity near , reflecting the minor contribution from Ce 4f electrons to the metallic ground state of . This implies that Te(1) 5p and Ce 5d electrons are involved in the CDW formation in . [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Electronic structures of delafossite oxides have been investigated by using photoemission spectroscopy (PES) and soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). T 2p XAS (, Ni) spectra of show that the valence states of Co ions are trivalent and do not change with . In contrast, Ni ions are in the mixed-valent states and the trivalent component increases with increasing . This finding suggests that the metallic nature of for low values of arises from the divalent Ni ions. The valence-band PES study of reveals that the Ni 3d states are more metallic like than the Co 3d states. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
