The discharge of dye industry wastewater without any proper treatments has raised tremendous concerns due to its hazardous nature and potential risks. Photocatalytic degradation is a promising technology for environmentally friendly and sustainable treatment of dye pollutants. Nanomaterial-based photocatalysts have been successfully applied to treat industrial dye wastewater. Among them, titanium dioxide (TiO2) with diverse nanostructure and numerous advantages has garnered significant attentions. However, the morphological difference of TiO2 is of paramount importance for enhancing its degradation performance. This review provides an overview of recent advances in various forms of multidimensional TiO2, including 0D nanoparticles, 1D nanowires, nanotubes, nanofibers, and nanorods, 2D nanosheets and nanoplates, as well as assembled 3D micro-nano structures, for photocatalytic dye wastewater treatment. The article could briefly elaborate the conventional synthesis routes, advantages, challenges, and application areas of TiO2 in different dimensions, and compares their photocatalytic degradation performance and mechanisms. Simultaneously, these approaches of modified performances by doping metal ions and non-metal ions have emphatically involved over here. Graphene oxide (GO) has been continuously demonstrated as promising membrane for water purification due to its excellent hydrophilic surface properties and special interconnected 2D nanofluidic channels for ion/molecule transport. In this work, to resolve the membrane fouling problem for GO membrane, GO/TiO 2 membrane with the multifunction of concurrent water filtration and photodegradation for pollutants was successfully fabricated by a one-step facile approach. Crossflow filtration was applied to evaluate the separation performance by simulating the real industrial process. The as-prepared GO/TiO 2 membrane exhibited remarkable ability on photocatalytic degradation of Methylene Blue under UV light, 92% of MB could be degraded after 110 min irradiation with 4 mg of photocatalyst. The membrane fouling could be effectively alleviated with UV light irradiation, resulting in a high flux recoverability of 96% after 100 min. Furthermore, the mechanism of membrane fouling processes for GO/TiO 2 membrane under crossflow filtration was analyzed based on Darcylaw model. The result showed adsorption and cake layer which accounted for 46.3% and 46.0% of membrane resistance were main factors that cause GO/TiO 2 membrane fouling. Bamboo with the outstanding properties, such as good mechanical strength, fast growth rate and low growth cost, is considered as one of utilitarian structural nature materials. But bamboo is easy to get mildewed resulting in disfiguration and fungi corrosion. In this work, a facile method was developed to improve the mildew-proofing capability of bamboo. Mussel-inspired polydopamine (PDA) with biomimetic adhesion function and highly active functional groups was employed to immobilize highly-dispersed Ag and TiO2 nanoparticles on the surface of bamboo via an in-situ growth method. Integrating the uniform PDA coating, photocatalytic function of TiO2 nanoparticles and bactericidal role of Ag nanoparticles, the mildew-proofing capability of bamboo is enhanced significantly. The results show a non-covalent interaction is more likely to account for the binding mechanism of PDA to bamboo. And the prepared bamboo samples show good photocatalytic performance and have excellent resistance leachability.
