Internet, due to its interactive and connective characteristics, is in the origin of great changes in the business world. In the marketing field, those transformations are more visible and they are changing the relations among partners, with power moving towards customers, who are even claiming for an effective participation in the marketing-mix formulation. In this context, many companies are changing their marketing strategies in order to take advantage of the opportunities Internet is bringing, namely the opportunity for customizing the marketing strategy and the relationships. Based on a sample of 192 Portuguese private companies, 93 having website, this study aims to identify the level of technological sophistication and investigate the Internet impact on the marketing strategy redesign and on the performance of the organisations.

- Abstract
This study analyzes how supply chain leadership (SCL), supply chain followership (SCF) and green supply chain integration (GSCI) can contribute to green new product development (GNPD) and performance (PRF) through the effects of green innovation (GRI), considering the moderator role of customer pressure (CPR). In doing so, it provides new insights that can aid in understanding the importance of collaborative behavior in the supply chain that promotes sustainable benefits for companies and their stakeholders, stimulating green innovation as a key to making business more circular. ology: Using a structured questionnaire, this study gathers data from a cross-sectional sample of 425 supply chain partners of Portugal's biggest energy supplier. Structural equation modelling is used to test the proposed hypotheses, and the impact of customer pressure on the suggested relationships is assessed through a multi-group analysis. The findings suggest that SCL, SCF and GSCI positively impact GRI. Additionally, this study reveals that GNPD has a positive impact on PRF. Supply chain customer pressure appears to moderate some of the proposed relationships. This article provides some empirical evidence of the influence of SCL, SCF and GSCI on organizational value creation, contributing to a better understanding of the impacts of green innovation approaches on business sustainability. The overall results may support the importance of collaborative behavior in the supply chain for creating value for business, responding at the same time to the environmental sustainability challenges that humanity is facing, considering the role of customer pressure in moderating these relationships. Results show that, by being greener, a company may be more competitive, thus highlighting the importance of the collaboration between responsible and committed leaders and proactive followers for creating a better future for all. The research considered the suppliers of only one company. The relationships between variables need to be explored in other practical case studies and longitudinal research to improve the potential for extrapolating generalizations and establishing clear causalities. The study aims to show how organisation's corporate ethics and social responsibility have influence on satisfaction with management and workers' attitudes and behaviours, especially in terms of organisational commitment (OC), innovative behaviour (IB) and performance. To systematise this reality, was used a self-reported sample of 223 Portuguese individuals. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to test the hypotheses. On the influence on satisfaction with management, the results showed that employees value the ethical component and also workforce social responsibility practices. Concerning OC, statistical evidence was found on the influence of satisfaction with management, ethical values and also workforce practices. It was also found that OC influences IB, and that this attitude had strong positive relationships with in-role performance. The empirical evidence suggests that organisation's corporate ethics and social responsibility are important to workers, so should be taken in account by managers and be subject of research by academics. Issues concerning the choice of distribution channels have always been considered important by marketing thinkers and practitioners. Traditionally, this has stemmed, in part, from the marketing concept having the exchange process at its core, with the exchange being facilitated by distribution channels. A second reason for the importance of the channel decision is its long-term nature. Choice of channel represents an enduring commitment—heavy investments are required and are not easily redeployed, and the social and political character of distribution channels means that change can be difficult and painful.

The pandemic marked the beginning of a succession of events on a global scale (not the least of which is a greater concern for the environment and for quality of life/distance work) with a major impact on the economy. Innovation plays a key role in meeting the challenges of the future, but despite investment in innovation, global economic growth has fallen short of the expected performance. The aim of this study is to identify the factors with the greatest impact on the performance of innovation ecosystems based on the performance of the innovation ecosystems of 64 countries assessed by the Global Innovation Index 2022. The methodology consists of multiple hierarchical linear regressions, in which the impact factors on innovation ecosystems, measured through indicators, are the independent variables and innovation performance, in knowledge and technology and in creativity, are the dependent variables in an iterative process, using STATA/MP 18.0 data analysis software. The results indicate that human capital and research (the basis of business and innovative products aimed at filling gaps in the market are people with a good higher education, which is also linked to local university rankings) and business sophistication (highly qualified work, leveraging strategic partnerships, and with knowledge absorption capacity) are the main pillars determining innovation performance at a global level. Education (an educated workforce is of growing importance in the knowledge era), R&D investment (including support from the state in the form of tax incentives for whoever invests in R&D), innovation partnerships (for a faster, more open innovation effort), ecological sustainability (a new reinforced priority after COVID-19) and knowledge absorption (to absorb one must first detain valuable knowledge in the area) are the variables with the greatest impact on innovation performance. The work provides guidance on which areas should be prioritized in the development of policies and strategies to accelerate innovation in countries. The study is limited by the time frame and reveals, by comparison with pre-pandemic studies, that the determinants of innovation can be dynamic, varying according to the countries and, consequently, the global context of the analysis. Objective: The main objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of sustainable human resources management (SHRM) and internal communication (IC) on turnover intention (TI) and employee performance (PER) while assessing the mediating role of organizational attractiveness (AT) over these relationships. In this sense, this study intends to evaluate the effect of SHRM and IC on employee PER and TI, with AT acting as the mediator in a joint model of analysis. Methodology: To achieve the aforementioned purposes, a cross-sectional quantitative study was prepared using the Structural Equation Model (SEM). In total, 177 individuals participated in the study. Regarding gender, 62.4% were female. Participants came from all districts of Portugal and were aged from 21 years old to over 55 years old. Results: The main results show that both SHRM and IC are significantly correlated with AT, PER, and TI. Additionally, AT has a total mediation effect in the relationship between SHRM, PER, and TI and also between IC, PER, and TI. Practical implications: These results seem to support the need for organizations to invest in combined strategies and practices that aim to intertwine SHRM and IC towards the benefit of the worker. Both areas have been shown to have solid effects over PER and TI, as well as on the development of favorable worker perceptions that identify the organization as a good place to work. Practitioners should look at both SHRM and IC as valid ways of stimulating the quality of the worker–organization relationship. Incorporating these areas into common strategic planning and consecutive practices seems advisable regarding workers' performance and employee retention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Latin American SMEs currently have serious financial and technological limitations. These problems have generated poor progress in technological digitization, innovation management, and corporate performance. The purpose of this research is to first analyze the direct effect that digitalization has on the management of innovation and corporate performance of Mexican SMEs. Secondly, the moderating effect that technological barriers have on the digitization, innovation, and results of the corporate performances of Mexican SMEs is examined. This study compiles information from a sample of 4121 managers of SMEs in the service trade and manufacturing sector. The information collection technique was through a personal interview (online questionnaire) addressed to the owner and/or manager of the SMEs through the LimeSurvey Professional platform. The fieldwork was carried out during the months of January to July of the year 2022. The structural equations model (SEM) was used for data analysis, specifically with the statistical technique of analysis of variance through the partial least square (PLS). The findings revealed that digitization has positive and significant effects on innovation management and corporate performance. In addition, the results indicate that the barriers to digitalization as a moderating variable have been impeding development and digital transformation and reducing the results of innovation and corporate performance of Mexican SMEs. This study contributes to the development of dynamic capabilities theory. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose – Corporate reputation (CR) is an important intangible asset of a company. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the role of CR on co-operants behavior and on organizational performance in co-operative organizations. Design/methodology/approach – This investigation proposes an investigation model and tests the framework using structural equation modeling. For this purpose, 263 valid questionnaires were collected from a research sample comprised of co-operants of the biggest dairy union of co-operatives in Iberia. Findings – CR has a significant impact on co-operatives members’ loyalty and on co-operatives’ performance. The model provides a wider comprehension of the CR concept and introduces both the drivers and consequences. Research limitation – This investigation is based on a sample of members of one union of co-operatives in the specific dairy milk industry. Practical implication – The results give new guidelines to redress the co-operatives traditional management, namely the management of intangible assets like reputation. Internal culture, satisfaction with management, image and communication can boost reputation and thus organizational performance and members’ loyalty. Social implication – This paper aims to contribute to the competitiveness of a type of organization closed to the social structure of the rural population. Originality value – The results bring the management challenges of the twenty-first century to the traditional principles underlying co-operatives management helping them to reinforce competitiveness. Burnout should be seen as an important phenomenon influencing the services provided by police forces, due to its high exposure to stressful events. The study sought to examine the impact of burnout on performance and turnover intention of Portuguese police forces, as well as to analyze the moderating effect of compassion satisfaction (CS) on this relationship. Data were collected in 2021 from 1.682 Portuguese police officers, using individual surveys. The results showed that (1) burnout is negatively related to performance; (2) burnout is positively related to turnover intention; (3) CS, although it has a positive effect on performance, does not assume a moderating role, as expected, in the relationship between burnout and performance; (4) CS assumes a moderating role in the relationship between burnout and turnover intention. That is, when a person who still suffers from burnout feels CS, it decreases the intention to leave the organization. The implications and the bearings of this study are discussed and presented regarding the theoretical, empirical and practical perspectives in order to better support both the comprehension of burnout in police officers and offer the best practical recommendations. Objective: Lean Management is an organizational philosophy based on TPS industrial production methods designed by engineers from Toyota, a Japanese vehicles maker. The study aims to assess the effects of implementing Lean Management methodologies on the well-being and Performance of workers, mediated by Work Engagement and Job Resourcefulness, in the context of present-day organizations.Approach: The conceptual model was developed based on studies on Lean Management, Work Engagement, Job Resourcefulness, Performance, Productivity and workers’ Well-Being. Ten study hypotheses about causality and mediation relationships between variables were raised. The investigation data was collected through electronic surveys published online and by contacts with direct electronic messages (e-mail), seeking as much as possible to obtain a significant sample of the target population. The collected data was analysed using the Structural Equations Model, with the help of SPSS and its AMOS plug-in to perform the required calculations for the analysis. Results: The investigation concluded that there is a positive relationship between Lean Management and workers’ Well-Being and Performance, as mediated by Work Engagement and Job Resourcefulness. It is therefore expected that successful implementations of Lean Management will lead to gains in Work Engagement and Job Resourcefulness, which ultimately will lead to Performance and Well-Being levels’ gains as well. However, it’s expected that unsuccessful implementations of Lean Management will have detrimental effects on the referred variables. No statistical evidence was found to support, however, the hypothesis that Job Resourcefulness has an influence on Group Performance, while the positive effect on Individual Performance and Operational Performance was corroborated.Limitations and future lines of research: Comparative studies with other countries can be done in future research, as well as comparisons “before-after” of the implementation, between Lean and Non-Lean teams, cultural differences and effectiveness of the implementation in terms of financial results. Practical contributions: The offered model and the conclusions reached by the investigation may serve as a decision support tool for company managers concerned with the impacts of implementing Lean Management methodologies on the well-being and productivity of workers, adjusting paradigm changing activities to better respond to their anxieties and expectations, and focusing resources on the variables that are statistically expected to produce the greatest positive impacts.Originality: Few comprehensive studies like this proposal were found in the literature review, being mostly focused on specific sectors, industries, countries or levels of hierarchy.

NEW product development , *INTERNATIONAL business enterprises , *EXPORTS , *ORGANIZATIONAL performance research , *COMPETITIVE advantage in business , *STRUCTURAL equation modeling - Abstract
This article extends the current research on innovation by investigating the relationship between innovative capabilities and export firms' overall performance. From the perspectives of the resource-based view (RBV) and dynamic capability, we examine the differential and interactive effects of exploration and exploitation capabilities in product innovation for external markets and overall performance (direct and mediated by a new product). In addition, we test the moderating effect of market dynamism and the controlling effect of firm size on these relationships. Hence, the main contribution of this article is developing and empirically testing an original model, by combining these constructs that address new relationships, in an emerging country. This model was tested with data from 498 Brazilian export firms, distributed throughout all Brazilian manufacturing sectors, by firm size, and in states. The analysis was made with application of the structural equation modeling (SEM). As a result, we found support for the assumptions that exploitation capabilities influence product innovation and overall performance, whereas exploration capabilities and their interaction to exploitation capabilities influence overall performance, but not product innovation. Additionally, the relationship between exploitation capabilities and overall performance is mediated by product innovation. Unlike hypothesized, market dynamism does not moderate the relationship between product innovation and overall performance. Furthermore, firm size works as a controlling variable in the relationships analyzed. Regarding the implications for theory, this study contributes to grasp that exploitation capabilities influences a firm's overall performance, both directly and indirectly (via product innovation), and highlights the various direct and mediatory effects of innovation on overall performance. These insights show the importance of considering the role of mediating and moderating variables in theory and research models that address the determinants of overall performance to avoid overestimation of certain constructs. Finally, the paper provides original empirical support for the hypothesis of the interdependency of product innovations for external markets and overall performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Doctoral Thesis in Business Management presented to Faculty of Economics of Coimbra University Purpose: In an increasingly interconnected world every action matters. Sustainable supply chain management is a field full of opportunities for deeper investigations, in order to understand how to use power and influence in a proper way to develop business in a responsible way, through an approach where all can win. The first goal of this investigation is to map academic publications on the subject and the intellectual knowledge contained therein, covering past research trends and identifying potential future paths of research in the fields of corporate social responsibility and supply chain management, through a systematic review and bibliometric analysis. The second goal was to investigate the impact of the supply chain leadership and supply chain followership on purchasing social responsibility, considering the mediator effects of information sharing and shared values, since these variables contribute to a better understanding of the leadership and followership phenomena as key drivers of a sustainable supply chain management. The third goal was to identify the impact of supply chain leadership and supply chain followership on corporate social responsibility, considering the mediating effects of shared values, information sharing and purchasing social responsibility. The fourth goal was to identify how corporate social responsibility affects firm value, specifically through the analyses of social responsible behaviours impact on shared value shared value creation, in order to achieve higher performances performance and greater competitive advantages. The fifth goal was to analyse how supply chain leadership and supply chain followership affects firm value, specifically, through the analyses of transformational leadership and followership behaviours on shared value creation, in order to higher performance and greater shared values alignment. By doing so, new insights on sustainable supply chain management to assure business sustainability are provided. Methodology: The answers to the relationships proposed were drawn from the partial and cumulative results that were tested in the four partial and complementary models developed, corresponding to four empirical partial investigations produced. To test the proposed research hypotheses, this investigation uses a structured questionnaire to gather data from a cross-sectional sample of supply chain partners from the biggest Portuguese energy supplier. The initial three investigation models considered a sample of 425 partners, and the fourth later model considered a sample of 456 partners, since 31 additional responses had been fulfilled later in the investigation. Structural Equation Modelling is used to test the proposed hypotheses, and a multi-group analysis is conducted to find how suppliers’ dependency can impact the suggested relationships. Findings: The main findings of this investigation are: (i) there is a growing academic appeal to perform empirical studies involving supply chain partners, with the objective of monitoring the performance of companies through robust indicators and understanding how actions taken by leading organisations are contributing to the creation of value and competitive advantages, in a multidimensional and holistic approach; (ii) supply chain leadership has a positive impact on supply chain followership, information sharing, shared value, shared values and purchasing social responsibility, showing indirect effects on corporate social responsibility and performance through the proposed mediating variables; (iii) supply chain followership has a positive impact on information sharing, shared value, shared values and corporate social responsibility, showing indirect effects on performance; (iv) corporate social responsibility has a positive impact on competitive advantages, shared value and performance; (v) information sharing has a positive impact on performance and corporate social responsibility; (vi) shared values has a positive impact on purchasing social responsibility, corporate social responsibility and performance; (vii) shared value has a positive impact on performance; (viii) performance has a positive impact on corporate social responsibility; (ix) supply chain leadership dependency appears to moderate some of the proposed relationships. Implications/Originality: This research provides empirical evidence on the influence of supply chain leadership, supply chain followership and corporate social responsibility on organizational value creation, contributing to a better understanding of the impacts of social responsible behaviours on business sustainability, filling the gaps identified on past literature. The overall results may support the importance of a social responsible leadership, identifying how a sustainable company may create value for itself, and for everyone with whom it interacts. Consequently, researchers conducting studies on business strategy can incorporate these conceptual approaches as key elements in strategic business planning. In addition, supply chain management researchers can evaluate the inclusion of supply chain leadership, supply chain followership and corporate social responsibility in the studies carried out, in order to evaluate how these variables can translate on tangible assets, life cycle management, time to market, quality and product innovation. Limitations: The research only considers suppliers of one company. The relationships between variables need to be explored in other practical case studies and longitudinal investigations to improve the possibility of generalisation and establishing more reliable causal relationships.
