Highlight: [•] PCM, Window to Wall ratio and Shadow Factor in building retrofitting were assessed. [•] Influence of studied variables was evaluated in 5 climates zones in Spain. [•] Comfort and energy efficiency of existing building may be improved by use of PCM. [•] PCM in building retrofit increase significantly the hours in thermal comfort range.
