Abstract: NA48/2 results contributing to ChPT testing are presented. A sample of 1663 events of the rare decay $ K^ \pm \to \mu ^ \pm ve^ + e^ - $ has been selected with a minimume+e−eﬀective mass of 140 MeV. The measured model independent decay rate is in agreement with ChPT predictions. The branching ratio of the $ K^ \pm \to \mu ^ \pm ve^ + e^ - $ decay, never observed so far, has been obtained from a sample of about 5000 candidates with less than 6% background, also in agreement with ChPT predictions. In addition, a most precise measurement of the charged kaon semileptonic formfactors has been obtained from 4.4 millionKe3and 2.3 millionKµ3events collected in 2004.

Abstract: The NA48/2 experiment at CERN collected a large sample of charged kaon decays to final states with multiple charged particles in 2003--2004. A new upper limit on the rate of the lepton number violating decay $K^{\pm}\to\pi^{\mp}\mu^{\pm}\mu^{\pm}$ is reported: $\mathcal{B}(K^{\pm}\to\pi^{\mp}\mu^{\pm}\mu^{\pm}), Comment: 15 pages, accepted for publication in Physics Letters B

Abstract: From the analysis of a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.63 pb-1 taken during the 1990 run of LEP at centre of mass energies between 88.2 GeV an 94.2 GeV, the tau decays {Mathematical expression} and their charge conjugates have been studied. The following branching ratios have been measured; {Mathematical expression}, {Mathematical expression}, Br(τ- → π- (K-)vτ)=11.9±0.7±0.7%, BR (τ- → ρ- vτ)= 22.4±0.8±1.3%, in good agreement with world averages. The measured electronic and muonic branching ratios lead to a measurement of the strong coupling constant, αs (mτ) = 0.26-0.12 +0.09. Extrapolating the αs value from mτ to mZ yields αs (mZ) = 0.109-0.028 +0.012. The average polarization Pτ of taus produced in Z → τs τs decays has also been measured using the above decay modes. The weighted mean of the polarizations obtained from the four decay modes is Pτ=-0.24±0.07. This value of Pτ gives, in the improved Born approximation, a ratio between the axial and vector coupling constants of the tau of υτ/aτ = 0.12 ± 0.04, and hence a value of the effective electroweak mixing parameter sin2 θW(mZ 2). © 1992 Springer-Verlag., 0, SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

Abstract: The NA48/2 Collaboration at CERN has accumulated unprecedented statistics of rare kaon decays in the Ke4 modes: Ke4(+-) ($K^\pm \to \pi^+ \pi^- e^\pm \nu$) and Ke4(00) ($K^\pm \to \pi^0 \pi^0 e^\pm \nu$) with nearly one percent background contamination. The detailed study of form factors and branching rates, based on these data, has been completed recently. The results brings new inputs to low energy strong interactions description and tests of Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) and lattice QCD calculations. In particular, new data support the ChPT prediction for a cusp in the $\pi^0\pi^0$ invariant mass spectrum at the two charged pions threshold for Ke4(00) decay. New final results from an analysis of about 400 $K^\pm \to \pi^\pm \gamma \gamma$ rare decay candidates collected by the NA48/2 and NA62 experiments at CERN during low intensity runs with minimum bias trigger configurations are presented. Abstract: Recent results and prospects for precision tests of the Standard Model in kaon decay-in-flight experiments at CERN are presented. A measurement of the ratio of leptonic decay rates of the charged kaon at the level of 0.4% precision constrains the parameter space of new physics models with extended Higgs sector, a fourth generation of quarks and leptons or sterile neutrinos. Searches for heavy neutrino mass states and the dark photon in the ∼ 100 MeV/c(2) mass range based on samples collected in 2003-2007 are in progress and prospects will be discussed. The NA62 experiment, starting in 2014, will search for a range of lepton number and lepton flavour violating decays of the charged kaon and the neutral pion at improved sensitivities down to ∼ 10(-12), which will probe new physics scenarios involving heavy Majorana neutrinos or R-parity violating SUSY.

Abstract: A sample of $4.687\times 10^6$ fully reconstructed $K^\pm\to\pi^\pm\pi^0_D$, $\pi^0_D\to\gamma e^+e^-$ decay candidates in the kinematic range $m_{ee}>10~{\rm MeV}/c^2$ with a negligible background contamination collected by the NA48/2 experiment at CERN in 2003-04 is analysed to search for the dark photon ($A'$) via the decay chain $K^\pm\to\pi^\pm\pi^0$, $\pi^0\to\gamma A'$, $A'\to e^+e^-$. Abstract: A sample of 65210 $K^\pm \rightarrow \pi^0 \pi^0 e^\pm \nu $ ($K_{e4}^{00}$) decay candidates with $1\%$ background contamination has been collected in 2003--2004 by the NA48/2 collaboration at the CERN SPS. A study of the differential rate provides the first measurement of the hadronic form factor variation in the plane $(M_{\pi\pi}^2 ,M_{e\nu}^2)$ and brings evidence for a cusp-like structure in the distribution of the squared $\pi^0\pi^0$ invariant mass around $4m_{\pi^+}^2$. Exploiting a model independent description of this form factor, the branching ratio, inclusive of radiative decays, is obtained using the $K^\pm \rightarrow \pi^0 \pi^0 \pi^\pm $ decay mode as normalization. It is measured to be BR$(K_{e4}) = (2.552 ± 0.010_{stat} \pm 0.010_{syst} \pm 0.032_{ext}) \times 10^{−5}$ which improves the current world average precision by an order of magnitude while the $1.4\%$ relative precision is dominated by the external uncertainty from the normalization mode. A comparison with the properties of the corresponding mode involving a $\pi^+ \pi ^-$ pair ($K_{e4}^{+-}$) is also presented. Abstract: From the 2002 data taking with a neutral kaon beam extracted from the CERN-SPS, the NA48/1 experiment observed 97 $\Xi^{0}\rightarrow \Sigma^{+} \mu^{-} \bar{\nu}_{\mu}$ candidates with a background contamination of $30.8 \pm 4.2$ events. From this sample, the BR($\Xi^{0}\rightarrow \Sigma^{+} \mu^{-} \bar{\nu}_{\mu}$) is measured to be $(2.17 \pm 0.32_{\mathrm{stat}}\pm 0.17_{\mathrm{syst}})\times10^{-6}$. The overall form factor normalization $f_s = 5.705 \pm 0.017_{exp} \pm 0.031_{ext}$ is obtained with a total relative precision of 0.6%. Abstract: A sample of 3120 $K^\pm\to\pi^\pm\mu^+\mu^-$ decay candidates with $(3.3\pm0.7)$% background contamination has been collected by the NA48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS, allowing a detailed study of the decay properties. The branching ratio was measured to be ${\rm BR}=(9.62\pm0.25)\times 10^{-8}$. The form factor $W(z)$, where $z=(M_{\mu\mu}/M_K)^2$, was parameterized according to several models. In particular, the slope of the linear form factor $W(z)=W_0(1+\delta z)$ was measured to be $\delta=3.11\pm0.57$. Upper limits of $2.9\times 10^{-2}$ and $2.3\times 10^{-2}$ on possible charge asymmetry and forward-backward asymmetry were established at 90% CL. An upper limit ${\rm BR}(K^\pm\to\pi^\mp\mu^\pm\mu^\pm)

Abstract: We report results from the analysis of the $K^{\pm} \rightarrow \pi^{+} \pi^{-} e^{\pm} \nu$ (Ke4) decay by the NA48/2 collaboration at the CERN SPS, based on the total statistics of 1.13 million decays collected in 2003-2004. The hadronic form factors in the S- and P-wave and their variation with energy are obtained. The phase difference between the S- and P-wave states of the $\pi \pi$ system is accurately measured and allows a precise determination of $a_{0}^{0}$ and $a_{0}^{2}$, the I=0 and I=2 S-wave $\pi \pi$ scattering lengths: $a_{0}^{0} = 0.2220 \pm 0.0128_{stat} \pm 0.0050_{syst} \pm 0.0037_{th}, a_{0}^{2}$ = $-0.0432 \pm 0.0086_{stat} \pm 0.0034_{syst} \pm 0.0028_{th}.$ Combination of this result with the other NA48/2 measurement obtained in the study of $K^{\pm} \rightarrow \pi^{0} \pi^{0} \pi^{\pm}$ decays brings an improved determination of $a_{0}^{0}$ and the first precise experimental measurement of $a_{0}^{2}$, providing a stringent test of Chiral Perturbation Theory predictions and lattice QCD calculations. Using constraints based on analyticity and chiral symmetry, even more precise values are obtained: $a_{0}^{0} = 0.2196 \pm 0.0028_{stat} \pm 0.0020_{syst}$ and $a_{0}^{2} = -0.0444 \pm 0.0007_{stat} \pm 0.0005_{syst} \pm 0.0008_{ChPT}$.

Abstract: The decay asymmetries of the weak radiative Hyperon decays $\Xi^{0}\to \Lambda \gamma$ and $\Xi^{0} \to \Sigma^{0}\gamma$ have been measured with high precision using data of the NA48/1 experiment at CERN. From about 52000 $\Xi^{0}\to \Lambda \gamma$ and 15000 $\Xi^{0} \to \Sigma^{0}\gamma$ decays, we obtain for the decay asymmetries $\alpha_{\Xi^{0}\to \Lambda\gamma}$ = -0.704 +- 0.019$_{stat}$ +- 0.064$_{syst}$ and $\alpha_{\Xi^{0}\to \Sigma^{0}\gamma}$ = -0.729 +- 0.030$_{stat}$ +- 0.076$_{syst}$, respectively. These results are in good agreement with previous experiments, but more precise. With about 23,k $K_{S} \rightarrow \pi^{+}\pi^{-}e^{+}e^{-}$ events and 59,k $K_{L} \rightarrow \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0}_{D}$ normalization decays, the $K_{S} \rightarrow \pi^{+}\pi^{-}e^{+}e^{-}$ branching ratio relative to the $K_{L}\rightarrow \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0}_{D}$ one was determined to be BR($K_{S} \rightarrow \pi^{+}\pi^{-}e^{+}e^{-}$)/BR($K_{L} \rightarrow \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0}_{D}$) = $ (3.28 \pm 0.06_{stat}\pm 0.04_{syst})\times 10^{-2}$. This result was used to set the upper limit $|g_{E1}/g_{BR}| \lt 3.0$ at $90%$ CL on the presence, in the decay amplitude, of an E1 direct emission ($g_{E1}$) term relative to the dominant inner bremsstrahlung ($g_{BR}$) term. The CP-violating asymmetry ${cal A}_{\phi}$ in the sin$\phi$,cos$\phi$ distribution of $K_{S} \rightarrow \pi^{+}\pi^{-}e^{+}e^{-}$ events, where $\phi$ is the angle between the $\pi^{+} \pi^{-}$ and the $e^{+}e^{-}$ decay planes in the kaon centre of mass, was found to be ${cal A}_{\phi} = (-0.4 pm 0.8)%$, consistent with zero. These results are in good agreement with a description of the $K_{S} \rightarrow \pi^{+}\pi^{-}e^{+}e^{-}$ decay amplitude dominated by the CP-even inner bremsstrahlung process.

Abstract: As first observed by the NA48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS, the $\pi^{0}\pi^{0}$ invariant mass ($M_{00}$) distribution from $K^{\pm} \rightarrow \pi^{\pm}\pi^{0}\pi^{0}$ decay shows a cusp-like anomaly at $M_{00}=2m_{+}$, where $m_{+}$ is the charged pion mass. An analysis to extract the $\pi\pi$ scattering lengths in the isospin $I=0$ and $I=2$ states, $a_{0}$ and $a_{2}$, respectively, has been recently reported. In the present work the Dalitz plot of this decay is fitted to a new empirical parameterization suitable for practical purposes, such as Monte Carlo simulations of $K^{\pm} \rightarrow \pi^{\pm}\pi^{0}\pi^{0}$ decays.

Abstract: We report the results from a study of the full sample of ~ 6.031 10^7 K+- -> pi+- pi0 pi0 decays recorded by the NA48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS. As first observed in this experiment, the pi0 pi0 invariant mass M00 distribution shows a cusp-like anomaly in the region around M00 = 2m+, where m+ is the charged pion mass. This anomaly has been interpreted as an effect due mainly to the final state charge exchange scattering process pi+ pi- -> p0 p0 in K+- -> pi+- pi+ pi- decay. Fits to the M00 distribution using two different theoretical formulations provide the presently most precise determination of (a0 - a2), the difference between the pi pi S-wave scattering lengths in the isospin I=0 and I=2 states. Higher-order pi pi rescattering terms, included in the two formulations, allow also an independent, though less precise, determination of a2., Comment: 19 pages, 12 figures

This measured value and the spectrum of the $e^{+}e^{-}\gamma$ invariant mass allow a comparison with predictions of Chiral Perturbation Theory. Abstract: A measurement of the direct CP violating charge asymmetries of the Dalitz plot linear slopes $A_g=(g^+-g^-)/(g^++g^-)$ in $K^\pm\to\pi^\pm\pi^+\pi^-$ and $K^\pm\to\pi^\pm\pi^0\pi^0$ decays by the NA48/2 experiment at CERN SPS is presented. A new technique of asymmetry measurement involving simultaneous $K^+$ and $K^-$ beams and a large data sample collected allowed a result of an unprecedented precision. The charge asymmetries were measured to be $A^c_g=(-1.5\pm2.2)\times10^{-4}$ with $3.11\times 10^9$ $K^{\pm}\to\pi^\pm\pi^+\pi^-$ decays, and $A^n_g=(1.8\pm1.8)\times10^{-4}$ with $9.13\times 10^7$ $K^{\pm}\to\pi^\pm\pi^0\pi^0$ decays. Abstract: A total of 235 698 Xi0 -> Lambda pi0 and 21 527 anti-Xi0 -> anti-Lambda pi0 decays were selected from data obtained by the NA48/1 experiment at CERN. From this sample, the lifetime of the Xi0 hyperon was measured to be (3.065 +- 0.012(stat) +- 0.014(syst)) x 10^-10 s. This result is about two standard deviations above the world average and an order of magnitude more precise than the previous best measurement. With the same data sample, we have measured the ratio of anti-Xi0 and Xi0 fluxes in proton collisions at 400 GeV/c on a beryllium target.

Abstract: The decay rate of $K_{S} \to \pi e \nu$ relative to the rate of $K_{L} \to \pi e \nu$ has been measured by the NA48 collaboration in a neutral Kaon beam originating from 400 GeV proton-Be interactions at the CERN SPS. The result is $0.993 \pm 0.026_{stat} \pm 0.022_{syst}$, compatible with 1 in agreement with the Standard Model prediction at tree level. It implies $BR(K_{S} \to\pi e \nu) = (7.05 \pm 0.18_{stat.} \pm 0.16_{syst.}) \times 10^{-4}$.

With the standard Particle Data Group parameterization the following values of the slope parameters were obtained: $g=(-21.134 \pm 0.014)$%, $h=(1.848 \pm 0.039)$%, $k=(-0.463 \pm 0.012)$%. The quality and statistical accuracy of the data have allowed an improvement in precision by more than an order of magnitude, and are such as to warrant a more elaborate theoretical treatment, including pion-pion rescattering, which is in preparation. Abstract: This paper reports on a new high precision measurement of the form factors of the $K_{L}\rightarrow~\pi^{\pm}~\mu^{\mp}~\nu_{\mu}$} decay. The data sample of about $2.3 \times 10^{6}$ events was recorded in 1999 by the NA48 experiment at CERN. Studying the Dalitz plot density we measured a linear, $\lambda^{'}_{+} = (16.8\pm 2.3_{stat} \pm 2.4_{syst})\times 10^{-3}$, and a quadratic, $\lambda^{''}_{+} = (4.0\pm 1.0_{stat} \pm 1.0_{syst})\times 10^{-3}$ term in the power expansion of the vector form factor. No evidence was found for a second order term for the scalar form factor; the linear slope was determined to be $\lambda_{0} = (9.1\pm 1.1_{stat} \pm 0.8_{syst})\times 10^{-3}$. \noindent Using a linear fit our results were: $\lambda_{+} = (26.1\pm 0.6_{stat} \pm 0.8_{syst} )\times 10^{-3}$ and, $\lambda_{0} = (12.6\pm 0.7_{stat} \pm 1.0_{syst} )\times 10^{-3}$. A pole fit of the form factors yields: $m_V = ( 915 \pm 10_{stat} \pm 17_{syst} )$ MeV/c$^2$ and $m_S = (1348 \pm 43_{stat} \pm 53_{syst} )$ MeV/c$^2$. This Letter reports on a new high precision measurement of the form factors of the KL→π±μ∓νμ decay. The data sample of about 2.3×106 events was recorded in 1999 by the NA48 experiment at CERN. Studying the Dalitz plot density we measured a linear, λ+′=(20.5±2.2stat±2.4syst)×10−3 , and a quadratic, λ+″=(2.6±0.9stat±1.0syst)×10−3 term in the power expansion of the vector form factor. No evidence was found for a second order term for the scalar form factor; the linear slope was determined to be λ0=(9.5±1.1stat±0.8syst)×10−3 . Using a linear fit our results were: λ+=(26.7±0.6stat±0.8syst)×10−3 and λ0=(11.7±0.7stat±1.0syst)×10−3 . A pole fit of the form factors yields: mV=(905±9stat±17syst) MeV/c2 and mS=(1400±46stat±53syst) MeV/c2 . This paper reports on a new high precision measurement of the form factors of the K_{L}\to \pi^{\pm} \mu^{\mp} \nu_{\mu} decay. Abstract: Measured ratios of decay rates for $\Re_{K_{e3}/K_{2\pi}}, \Re_{K_{\mu3}/K_{2\pi}}$ and $\Re_{K_{\mu3}/K_{e3}}$ are presented. These measurements are based on $K^{\pm}$ decays collected in a dedicated run in 2003 by the NA48/2 experiment at CERN. The results obtained are $\Re_{K_{e3}/K_{2\pi}} = 0.2496 \pm 0.0009_{(stat)} \pm 0.0004_{(syst)}$ and $\Re_{K_{mu3}K_{2\pi}} = 0.1637 \pm 0.0006_{(stat)} \pm 0.0003_{(syst)}$. Using the PDG average for the $K^{\pm} \rightarrow \pi^{\pm}\pi^{0}$ normalisation mode, both values are found to be larger than the current values given by the Particle Data Book and lead to a larger magnitude of the $|V_{us}|$ CKM parameter than previously accepted. In addition, a new measured value of $\Re_{K_{\mu3}/K_{e3}} = 0.656 \pm 0.003_{(stat)} \pm 0.001_{(syst)}$ is compared to the semi-empirical predictions based on the latest form factor measurements. Measured ratios of decay rates for Ke3/K2\pi, K\mu3/K2\pi and K\mu3/Ke3 are presented. These measurements are based on K^+- decays collected in a dedicated run in 2003 by the NA48/2 experiment at CERN. The results obtained are Ke3/K2\pi = 0.2470 +/- 0.0009 (stat) +/- 0.0004 (syst) and K\mu3/K2\pi = 0.1637 +/- 0.0006 (stat) +/- 0.0003 (syst). Abstract: We present a measurement of the ratio of the decay rates $\Gamma (K_L \rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-) / \Gamma(K_L \rightarrow\pi^{\pm}e^{\mp}\nu)$, denoted as $\Gamma_{K2\pi}/\Gamma_{Ke3}$. The analysis is based on data taken during a dedicated run in 1999 by the NA48 experiment at the CERN SPS. Using a sample of 47000 $K_{2\pi}$ and five million $K_{e3}$ decays, we find $\Gamma_{K2\pi}/\Gamma_{Ke3} = (4.835 \pm 0.022_{stat.} \pm 0.016_{syst.}) \times 10^{-3}$. From this we derive the branching ratio of the CP violating decay $K_L \rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-$ and the CP violation parameter $|\eta_{+-}|$. Excluding the CP conserving direct photon emission component $K_L \rightarrow \pi^+\pi^-\gamma$, we obtain the results BR$(K_L \rightarrow \pi^+\pi^-) = (1.941 \pm 0.019) \times 10^{-3}$ and $|\eta_{+-}| = (2.223 \pm 0.012) \times 10^{-3}$.

Abstract: From 56 days of data taking in 2002, the NA48/1 experiment observed 6316 $\Xi^{0}\rightarrow \Sigma^{+} e^{-} \overline{\nu}_{e}$ candidates (with the subsequent $\Sigma^{+} \rightarrow p \pi^{0}$ decay) and 555 $\overline{\Xi^{0}}\rightarrow \overline{\Sigma^{+}} e^{+} \nu_{e}$ candidates with background contamination of $215 \pm 44$ and $136 \pm 8$ events, respectively. From these samples, the branching ratios BR($\Xi^{0}\rightarrow \Sigma^{+} e^{-} \overline{\nu}_{e})=(2.51 \pm0.03_{\mathrm{stat}}\pm 0.09_{\mathrm{syst}})\times10^{-4}$ and BR($\overline{\Xi^{0}}\rightarrow \overline{\Sigma^{+}} e^{+} \nu_{e})= (2.55 \pm 0.12_{\mathrm{stat}}\pm{0.10}_{\mathrm{syst}}) \times 10^{-4}$ were measured allowing the determination of the CKM matrix element $|V_{\mathrm{us}}| = 0.209^{+0.023}_{-0.028}$. Using the Particle Data Group average for $|V_{\mathrm{us}}|$ obtained in semileptonic kaon decays, we measured the ratio $g_1/f_1 = 1.20 \pm 0.05$ of the axial-vector to vector form factors.

Abstract: The NA48 collaboration has measured the amplitude of the CP-conserving component of the decay $K^{0}_{S} \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0}$ relative to $K^{0}_{L} \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0}$. For the characteristic parameter $\lambda$, the values Re $\lambda = 0.038 \pm 0.010$ and Im $\lambda = - 0.013 \pm 0.007$ have been extracted. These values agree with earlier measurements and with theoretical predictions from chiral perturbation theory.

Abstract: The decay rate of the neutral long-lived $K$ meson into the $e^{+}e^{-}e^{+}e^{-}$ final state has been measured with the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. Using data collected in 1999, a total of 132 events has been observed with negligible background. The total number of kaons was determined to be $5.1 \times 10^{10}$. This observation corresponds to a preliminary branching ratio of $\Gamma(K_{L} \to e^{+}e^{-}e^{+}e^{-})/\Gamma(K_{L} \to all) = (3.67 \pm 0.32_{(stat)} \pm 0.23_{(sys)} \pm 0.08_{(norm)}) \times 10^{-8}$, where the first error is statistical, the second systematic, and the third error is due to the uncertainty in the normalization. The decay rate of the long-lived neutral $K$ meson into the $e^{+}e^{-}e^{+} e^{-}$ final state has been measured with the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. Using data collected in 1998 and 1999, a total of 200 events has been observed with negligible background. This observation corresponds to a branching ratio of Br($K_{L} \to e^{+}e^{-}e^{+} e^{-}) = (3.30 \pm 0.24_{stat} \pm 0.23_{sys} \pm 0.10_{norm}) \times 10^{-8}$. The decay rate of the long-lived neutral K meson into the e+e−e+e− final state has been measured with the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. Using data collected in 1998 and 1999, a total of 200 events has been observed with negligible background. This observation corresponds to a branching ratio of Br(KL→e+e−e+e−)=(3.30±0.24stat±0.23syst±0.10norm)×10−8 . Abstract: We present a measurement of the relative branching ratio of the decay KL -> pi e nu gamma (Ke3gamma) with respect to KL-> pi e nu (gamma) (Ke3+Ke3gamma) decay. The result is based on observation of 19 000 Ke3gamma and 5.6 x 10^6 Ke3 decays. The value of the branching ratio is Br(Ke3gamma, Egamma^*>30 MeV,theta(e,gamma)^*>20^o)/Br(Ke3)= (0.964+-0.008+0.011-0.009)%. This result agrees with theoretical predictions but is at variance with a recently published result., 13 pages, 7 figures. submitted to Phys. Lett. B

Abstract: We report the results from a study of $\sim 2.3 \times 10^{7} K^{\pm} \to \pi^{\pm}\pi^{0}\pi^{0}$ decays recorded by the NA48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS, showing an anomaly in the $\pi^{0}\pi^{0}$ invariant mass ($M_{00}$) distribution in the region around $M_{00} = 2m_{+}$, where $m_{+}$ is the charged pion mass. This anomaly, never observed in previous experiments, can be interpreted as an effect due mainly to the final state charge exchange scattering process $\pi^{+}\pi^{-} \to \pi^{0}\pi^{0}$ in $K^{\pm} \to \pi^{\pm}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ decay. It provides a precise determination of $a_{0} - a_{2}$, the difference between the $\pi\pi$ scattering lengths in the isospin $I=0$ and $I=2$ states. A best fit to a rescattering model corrected for isospin symmetry breaking gives $(a_{0} − a_{2})m_{+} = 0.268 \pm 0.010$( stat. ) $\pm 0.004 $(syst.), with additional external uncertainties of $\pm 0.013$ from branching ratio and theoretical uncertainties. If the correlation between $a_{0}$ and $a_{2}$ predicted by chiral symmetry is taken into account, this result becomes $(a_{0} − a_{2})m_{+} = 0.264 \pm 0.006$( stat.) $\pm 0.004$( syst.) $\pm 0. 013$(ext).

Abstract: Using data taken during the year 2000 with the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS, a search for the CP violation decay $K_{S} \to 3\pi^{0}$ has been performed. From a fit to the lifetime distribution of about 4.9 million reconstructed $K^{0}/\bar{K^{0}} \to 3\pi^{0}$ decays, the CP violationg amplitude $\eta_{000} = A(K_{S} \to 3\pi^{0})/A(K_{L} \to 3\pi^{0})$ has been found to be $\Re(\eta_{000}) = -0.002 \pm 0.011 \pm 0.015$ and Im$(\eta_{000}) -0.003 \pm 0.0013 \pm 0.017$. This corresponds to an upper limit on the branching fraction of Br($K_{S} \to 3\pi^{0}) < 7.4 \times 10^{-7}$ at 90% confidence level. The result is used to improve knowledge of $\Re(\epsilon)$ and the CPT violating quantity Im($\delta$) via the Bell-Steinberger relation.

Abstract: A search for the decay $K_{S} \to \pi^{0} \mu^{+} \mu^{-}$ has been made by the NA48/1 Collaboration at the CERN SPS accelerator. The data were collected during 2002 with a high intensity $K_{S}$ beam. Six events were found with a background expectation of $0.22^{+0.18}_{0.11}$ events. Using a vector matrix element and unit form factor, the measured branching ratio is $B(K_{S} \to \pi^{0}\mu^{+}\mu^{-}) = [2.9^{+1.5}_{-1.2}(stat) \pm 0.2(syst)] \times 10^{9}$. A search for the decay KS→π0μ+μ− has been made by the NA48/1 Collaboration at the CERN SPS accelerator. The data were collected during 2002 with a high-intensity KS beam. Six events were found with a background expectation of 0.22−0.11+0.18 events. Using a vector matrix element and unit form factor, the measured branching ratio is B(KS→π0μ+μ−)=[2.9−1.2+1.5(stat)±0.2(syst)]×10−9. A search for the decay K_S -> pi^0mu^+mu^- has been made by the NA48/1 Collaboration at the CERN SPS accelerator. The data were collected during 2002 with a high-intensity K_S beam. Six events were found with a background expectation of 0.22^+0.18_-0.11 event. Abstract: In data taken with the NA48 experiment at the CERN SPS in 1999, 730 candidates of the weak radiative hyperon decay $\Xi^{0} \to \Lambda\gamma$ have been found with an estimated background of $58 \pm 8$ events. From these events the $\Xi^{0} \to \Lambda\gamma$ decay asymmetry has been determined to $\alpha(\Xi^{0} \to \Lambda\gamma) = -0.78 \pm 0.18_{stat} \pm 0.06_{syst}$, which is the first evidence of a decay asymmetry in $\Xi^{0} \to \Lambda\gamma$. The branching fraction of the decay has been measured to be $Br(\Xi^{0} \to \Lambda\gamma) = (1.16 \pm 0.05_{stat} \pm 0.06_{syst}) \times 10^{-3}$.

Abstract: A search for the decay $K_{S} \rightarrow \pi^0 e^{+}e^{-}$ has been made by the NA48/1 experiment at the CERN SPS accelerator. Using data collected during 89 days in 2002 with a high-intensity $K_{S}$ beam, 7 events were found with a background of 0.15 events. The branching fraction $BR(K_{S} \rightarrow \pi^0 e^{+}e^{-}, m_{ee} > 0.165$ GeV/c$^{2}) = (3.0^{+1.5}_{-1.2(stat)} \pm 0.2(syst)) \times 10^{-9}$ has been measured. Using a vector matrix element and a form factor equal to one, the measurement gives $BR(K_{S} \rightarrow \pi^0 e^{+}e^{-}) = (5.8^{+2.9}_{-2.4}) \times 10^{-9}$.

Abstract: The $K_{L} \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}e^{+}e^{-}$ and $K_{S} \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}e^{+}e^{-}$ decay modes have been studied in detail using the NA48 detector at CERN SPS. Based on the data collected during the 1998 and 1999 run periods, a sample of 1162 $K_{L} \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}e^{+}e^{-}$ candidates has been observed with an expected background level of 36.9 events, yielding the branching ratio measurement $BR(K_{L} \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}e^{+}e^{-})=(3.08 \pm 0.20) \times 10^{-7}$. The distribution of events in the sin$\phi$cos$\phi$ variable, where $\phi$ is the angle between the $\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ and the $e^{+}e^{-}$ decay planes in the kaon centre of mass, is found to exhibit a large CP-violating asymmetry with the value $A_{\phi}(14.2 \pm3.6)$%. For the $K_{S} \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}e^{+}e^{-}$ decay channel, 621 candidates have been identified in the 1999 data sample with an estimated background contribution of 0.7 event. The corresponding branching ratio has been determined to be $BR(K_{S} \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}e^{+}e^{-})=(4.71 \pm 0.32) \times 10^{-5}$. The combined value of this measurement with the published 1998 result is $BR(K_{S} \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}e^{+}e^{-})=(4.69 \pm 0.30) \times 10^{-5}$. No asymmetry is observed in this decay mode. Our results are in good agreement with theoretical predictions based on a phenomenological description of radiative kaon decays. The form factor parameters a$_{1}$/a$_{2}$ and $\tilde{g}_{M1}$ in the $K_{L} \to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}e^{+}e^{-}$ direct emission process as well as the value of the $K^{0}$ charge radius have been extracted from the data.

Abstract: A search for the decay $K_{S} \to \pi^{0} \gamma\gamma$ has been made using the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. Abstract: The $K_{S} \to \gamma\gamma$ decay rate has been measured with the NA48 detector using a high intensity short neutral beam from the CERN SPS. The measured branching ratio BR($K_{S}) \to \gamma\gamma = (2.78 \pm 0.06_{stat} \pm 0.04_{syst}) \times 10^{-6}$, obtained from 7461$\pm$172 $K_{S} \to \gamma\gamma$ events, is significantly higher than the $O(p^{4})$ prediction of Chiral Perturbation Theory. Using a $K_{L}$ beam the ratio $\Gamma(K_{L} \to \gamma\gamma)/ \Gamma(K_{L} \to \pi^{0}\pi^{0}\pi^{0}) = (2.81 \pm 0.01_{stat} \pm 0.02_{syst}) \times 10^{-3}$ has been measured.

Abstract: The decay rate of $K_{L} \to \pi^{0}\gamma\gamma$ has been measured with the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. A total of 2558 $K_{L} \to \pi^{0}\gamma\gamma$ candidates have been observed with a residual background of 3.2%. The branching ratio is determined to be $(1.36 \pm 0.03_{(stat)} \pm 0.03_{(syst)} \pm 0.03_{(norm)}) \times10^{-6}$ and the vector coupling constant $a_v = -0.46 \pm0.03_{(stat)} \pm0.04_{(syst)}$. This result suggests that the CP-violation effects are dominating in the $K_{L} \to \pi^{0}e^{+}e^{-}$ decay. An upper limit for the $K_{L} \to \pi^{0}\gamma\gamma$ decay rate in the two photon mass region $m_{\gamma\gamma}

Abstract: A measurement of the K_S lifetime is presented using data recorded by the NA48 experiment at the CERN-SPS during 1998 and 1999. The K_S lifetime is derived from the ratio of decay time distributions in simultaneous, collinear K_S and K_L beams, giving a result which is approximately independent of the detector acceptance and with reduced systematic errors. The result obtained is tau_S=(0.89598 +- 0.00048 +- 0.00051)x10^(-10) s, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic., 12 pages, 1 figure, to be published in Physics Letters B

Abstract: A value of $(-6.1\pm 0.9_{stat}\pm 0.5_{syst}) \times 10^{-3}$ is obtained for the quadratic slope parameter $h$ in the $K_{L}\rightarrow 3\pi^{0}$ decay Dalitz plot at the NA48 experiment at the CERN SPS. The result is based on $14.7\times 10^{6}$ fully reconstructed $K_{L}\rightarrow 3\pi^{0} \rightarrow 6\gamma$ decays. This is the most precise measurement of any of the Dalitz plot slope parameters in the charged and neutral kaon decays so far.

Abstract: The direct CP violation parameter $\Re(\epsilon'/\epsilon)$ has been measured from the decay rates of neutral kaons into two pions using the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. With 3.3 million $K_{L} \to \pi^{0}\pi^{0}$ events collected during the 1998 and 1999 running periods, a result of $\Re(\epsilon'/\epsilon) = (15.0 \pm 2.7) \times 10^{-4}$ has been obtained. The result combined with the published 1997 sample is $\Re(\epsilon'/\epsilon) = (15.3 \pm 2.6) \times 10^{-4}$.
