Abstract: The NA48/2 experiment at CERN reports the first observation of the K->pi0e+e-decay from an exposure of 1.7x10^11 charged kaon decays recorded in 2003-2004. A sample of 4919candidates with 4.9% background contamination allows the determination of the branching ratioin the full kinematic region. The study of the kinematic space shows evidence for a structuredependent contribution in agreement with predictions based on chiral perturbation theory. Several P- and CP-violating asymmetries are also evaluated. The most precise measurement of the charged kaon semi-leptonic form factors obtained by NA48/2 with 4.4 million Ke3 and 2.3 million Km3 events collected in 2004 will also be presented.

Abstract: A measurement of the form factors of charged kaon semileptonic decays is presented, based on $4.4 \times 10^6$ $K^\pm \to \pi^0 e^\pm \nu_e$ ($K^\pm_{e3}$) and $2.3 \times 10^6$ $K^\pm \to \pi^0 \mu^\pm \nu_{\mu}$ ($K^\pm_{\mu3}$) decays collected in 2004 by the NA48/2 experiment. The results are obtained with improved precision as compared to earlier measurements. The combination of measurements in the $K^\pm_{e3}$ and $K^\pm_{\mu3}$ modes is also presented., Comment: 20 pages , 9 figures, 5 tables

Abstract: The NA48/2 experiment collected data in 2003 and 2004 with the main purpose to study direct CP violation in charged kaons decaying in three pions. Thanks to the huge statistics collected, other studies are also possible. In this paper two recent results, in the framework of QCD studies, are reported: the measurement of the K ± → π 0 e ± ν Form Factors and the first observation of the rare decay K ± → π ± π 0 e + e − .

Abstract: The NA62 experiment recorded a large sample of K+→μ+νμ decays in 2007. A peak search has been performed in the reconstructed missing mass spectrum. In the absence of a signal, limits in the range 2×10−6 to 10−5 have been set on the squared mixing matrix element |Uμ4|2 between muon and heavy neutrino states, for heavy neutrino masses in the range 300–375 MeV/ c2 . The result extends the range of masses for which upper limits have been set on the value of |Uμ4|2 in previous production search experiments.

Abstract: The NA62 experiment at CERN collected a large sample of charged kaon decays with a highly efficient trigger for decays into electrons in 2007. The kaon beam represents a source of tagged neutral pion decays in vacuum. A measurement of the electromagnetic transition form factor slope of the neutral pion in the time-like region from ∼1 million fully reconstructed π 0 Dalitz decay is presented. The limits on dark photon production in π 0 decays from the earlier kaon experiment at CERN, NA48/2, are also reported.

Abstract: The NA62 experiment at CERN collected a large sample of charged kaon decays with a highly efficient trigger for decays into electrons in 2007. The kaon beam represents a source of tagged neutral pion decays in vacuum. A measurement of the electromagnetic transition form factor slope of the neutral pion in the time-like region from ∼1 million fully reconstructed π 0 Dalitz decay is presented. The limits on dark photon production in π 0 decays from the earlier kaon experiment at CERN, NA48/2, are also reported.

Abstract: A search for the decay K S → π 0 γγ has been made using the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. Using data collected in 1999 during a 40-hour run with a high-intensity K S beam, an upper limit for the branching ratio BR ( K S → π 0 γγ , z ⩾0.2) −7 has been obtained at 90% confidence level, where z = m γγ 2 / m K 0 2 .

Abstract: The decay rate of $\klpgg$ has been measured with the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. A total of 2558 $\klpgg$ candidates have been observed with a residual background of 3.2%. The branching ratio is determined to be $(1.36 \pm0.03_{(stat)} \pm0.03_{(syst)}\pm 0.03_{(norm)})\times10^{-6}$ and the vector coupling constant $a_v = -0.46 \pm0.03_{(stat)} \pm0.04_{(syst)}$. This result suggests that the CP-violation effects are dominating in the $\klpee$ decay. An upper limit for the $\klpgg$ decay rate in the two photon mass region $m_{\gamma\gamma}

Abstract: A test of lepton flavour conservation in kaon rare decays by the NA48/2 experiment at CERN SPS is presented. The improved upper limit on the rate of the lepton number violating decay K ± → π ∓ μ ± μ ± is established with the data sample collected in 2003–2004. A precision test of lepton flavour universality in kaon rare decays by the successor NA62 experiment at CERN SPS is reported. The helicity suppressed ratio R K = Γ(K ± → e ± ν )/Γ(K ± → μ ± ν ) is measured with a 0.4% precision using the data sample collected in 2007–2008 and is consistent with the prediction of the Standard Model. The main goal of the NA62 experiment is to measure the branching ratio of the ultra-rare K + → π + ν ν decay with 10% accuracy. This will be achieved by collecting ∼ 1013 K + decays in the fiducial volume. The NA62 estimated sensitivities to rare and forbidden decays of K + and π 0 , including lepton flavour and number violating modes, and the NA62 potential to improve on several experimental limits are discussed.

Abstract: Effects of new physics in flavor could be found both in Flavor Changing Neutral Current (FCNC) processes and in Lepton Flavor Violation (LFV) modes. The former offer the possibility to deeply test the standard model in a clean environment, while the latter are sensitive to contribution from several models beyond the standard model. In the Kaon sector both FCNC and LFV will be investigated in the NA62 experiment. In addition the kaons sector is an ideal place where to look for new particles and tiny effects, in the region of hundreds of MeV/ c 2 . In this paper prospects for exotic searches in NA62 will be presented, together with recent results from NA48/2 and NA62-RK on LFV kaon decays modes.

Abstract: A measurement of the branching ratio of the rare leptonic kaon decay $K^\pm \rightarrow \mu^\pm \nu_{\mu} e^+ e^- $ is presented using data collected by the NA48/2 experiment in 2003 and 2004. The measurement is performed in the region $M_{ee} > 140$~MeV/c$^2$. In this particular region low energy QCD contributions become important and can be calculated in the framework of Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT). From a total number of $1.56 \times 10^{11}$ recorded kaon decays, the branching ratio is measured to be $\mathcal{B} \left( K^\pm \rightarrow \mu^\pm \nu_{\mu} e^+ e^- | M_{ee} > 140~ MeV/c^2 \right) = (7.8 \pm 0.2) \times 10^{-8} $.

Abstract: The NA48/2 experiment at CERN collected a large sample of charged kaon decays into final states with multiple charged particles in 2003-2004. An upper limit of $8.6 \times 10^{-11}$ at 90~$\%$~CL is set on the branching ratio of the lepton number violating decay $K^\pm \rightarrow \pi^{\mp} \mu^{\pm} \mu^{\pm}$. Searches for two-body resonances like heavy neutral leptons and inflatons in the $K^\pm \rightarrow \pi \mu \mu$ decays in the accessible range of masses and lifetimes are also presented.

Abstract: A sample of more than one million K±→π+π−e±ν ( Ke4 ) decay candidates with less than one percent background contamination has been collected by the NA48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS in 2003–2004, allowing a detailed study of the decay properties. The branching ratio, inclusive of Ke4γ decays, is measured to be BR(Ke4)=(4.257±0.016exp±0.031ext)×10−5 with a total relative error of 0.8% . This measurement complements the study of S- and P-wave hadronic form factors by assigning absolute values to the relative hadronic form factors obtained earlier in a simultaneous analysis of the ππ scattering lengths conducted on the same data sample. The overall form factor normalization fs=5.705±0.017exp±0.031ext is obtained with a total relative precision of 0.6% .

Abstract: A precision test of lepton flavour universality has been performed by measuring the ratio R K of kaon leptonic decay rates K + → e + ν and K + → μ + ν in a sample of 59 813 reconstructed K + → e + ν candidates with ( 8.71 ± 0.24 ) % background contamination. The result R K = ( 2.487 ± 0.013 ) × 10 − 5 is in agreement with the Standard Model expectation.

Abstract: As first observed by the NA48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS, the π0π0 invariant mass (M00) distribution from K±→π±π0π0 decay shows a cusp-like anomaly at M00=2m+, where m+ is the charged pion mass. An analysis to extract the ππ scattering lengths in the isospin I=0 and I=2 states, a0 and a2, respectively, has been recently reported. In the present work the Dalitz plot of this decay is fitted to a new empirical parameterization suitable for practical purposes, such as Monte Carlo simulations of K±→π±π0π0 decays.

Abstract: Measured ratios of decay rates for Ke3/K2\pi, K\mu3/K2\pi and K\mu3/Ke3 are presented. These measurements are based on K^+- decays collected in a dedicated run in 2003 by the NA48/2 experiment at CERN. The results obtained are Ke3/K2\pi = 0.2470 +/- 0.0009 (stat) +/- 0.0004 (syst) and K\mu3/K2\pi = 0.1637 +/- 0.0006 (stat) +/- 0.0003 (syst). Using the PDG average for the K^+- -> \pi^+-\pi^0 normalisation mode, both values are found to be larger than the current values given by the Particle Data Book and lead to a larger magnitude of the |V_{us}| CKM element than previously accepted. When combined with the latest Particle Data Book value of |V_{ud}|, the result is in agreement with unitarity of the CKM matrix. In addition, a new measured value of K\mu3/Ke3 = 0.663 +/- 0.003(stat) +/- 0.001(syst) is compared to the semi-empirical predictions based on the latest form factor measurements., Comment: 20 pages, 5 tables, 10 figures. Abstract: A precision measurement of the ratio RK of the rates of kaon leptonic decays K+- --> e nu and K+- --> mu nu with the full data sample collected by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2007-2008 is reported. The result, obtained by analysing ~150000 reconstructed K+- --> e nu candidates with 11% background contamination, is RK = (2.488+-0.010)*10^{-5}, in agreement with the Standard Model expectation., Accepted for publication in Physics Letters B (18 January 2013). 18 pages, 6 figures

Abstract: We report the results from a study of ~23 Million K+- ==> pi+- pizero pizero decays recorded by the NA48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS, showing an anomaly in the pizero pizero invariant mass distribution in the region around 2m+, where m+ is the charged pion mass. This anomaly, never observed in previous experiments, can be interpreted as an effect due mainly to the final state charge exchange scattering process pi+ pi- ==> pizero pizero in K+- ==> pi+- pi+ pi- decay. It provides a precise determination of a0 - a2, the difference between the pi-pi scattering lengths in the isospin I=0 and I=2 states.

Abstract: We present a new measurement of the branching ratio R of the decay K L → π ± e ∓ ν , denoted as K e 3 , relative to all charged K L decays with two tracks, based on data taken with the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. We measure R = 0.4978 ± 0.0035 . From this we derive the K e 3 branching fraction and the weak coupling parameter | V u s | in the CKM matrix. We obtain | V u s | f + ( 0 ) = 0.2146 ± 0.0016 , where f + ( 0 ) is the vector form factor in the K e 3 decay.

Abstract: In data taken with the NA48 experiment at the CERN SPS in 1999, 730 candidates of the weak radiative hyperon decay Ξ0→Λγ have been found with an estimated background of 58±8 events. From these events the Ξ0→Λγ decay asymmetry has been determined to α(Ξ0→Λγ)=-0.78±0.18stat±0.06 syst, which is the first evidence of a decay asymmetry in Ξ 0→Λγ. The branching fraction of the decay has been measured to be Br(Ξ0→Λγ)=(1.16±0.05 stat±0.06syst)×10-3. © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract: A new advance on direct CP violation in the neutral kaon system has been made by the NA48 Collaboration at CERN. We report on the measurement of the parameter Re(e'/e) based on the data collected in 1997. The experiment is performed by studying all four relevant decays modes of K L /K S to π + π − and π 0 π 0 collected simultaneously in the NA48 detector. We have obtained the value Re(e'/e)=[18.5±4.5(stat)±5.8(syst)]×10 −4 .

Abstract: We present a comprehensive treatment of the precise determinations of the parameters Re({var_epsilon}{sup {prime}}/{var_epsilon}), {tau}{sub S}, {Delta}m, {phi}{sub +{minus}}, and {Delta}{phi} in the neutral kaon system with the Fermilab E731 detector. Together, these determinations allow accurate studies of both CP and CPT symmetry. Details of the detector and its performance and the data analysis are given. Abstract: The NA48/2 and NA62 experiments at CERN study rare kaon decays using the decay in ﬂight technique. In this paper two selected topics will be presented: new measurements performed by the two experiments of the K±→ π±γγ decay which represents a stringent test of the Chiral Perturbation Theory and the measurement of the Branching Ratio of the very rare decay K+→π+νν¯${K^ + } \to {\pi ^ + }\nu \bar \nu $ at 10% level, that will provide a test of the Standard Model and possible extensions beyond it.

Abstract: With the E731 apparatus at Fermilab, we have simultaneously collected 6859 ${\mathit{K}}_{\mathit{L}}$ and ${\mathit{K}}_{\mathit{S}}$ decays into ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\pi}}}^{+}$${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\pi}}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$\ensuremath{\gamma}. Using our sample of over 370 000 ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\pi}}}^{+}$${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\pi}}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$ decays for normalization we have determined that the ratio \ensuremath{\Gamma}(${\mathit{K}}^{0}$\ensuremath{\rightarrow}${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\pi}}}^{+}$${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\pi}}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$\ensuremath{\gamma})/\ensuremath{\Gamma}(${\mathit{K}}^{0}$\ensuremath{\rightarrow}${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\pi}}}^{+}$${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\pi}}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}}$) is (23.0\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.7)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}${10}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}3}$ for ${\mathit{K}}_{\mathit{L}}$ and (7.10\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.22)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}${10}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}3}$ for ${\mathit{K}}_{\mathit{S}}$, for photon energies greater than 20 MeV in the kaon center of mass. After removing the inner-bremsstrahlung contribution, we find that the photon energy spectrum of the direct emission decay of the ${\mathit{K}}_{\mathit{L}}$ is consistent with the presence of a vector meson propagator in the form factor.

Abstract: The full E731 data set is used to provide precise determinations of several parameters of the neutral kaon. We find the [ital K][sub [ital S]] lifetime [tau][sub [ital S]]=(0.8929[plus minus]0.0016)[times]10[sup [minus]10] s, the [ital K][sub [ital L]-][ital K[ital S]] mass difference [Delta][ital m]=(0.5286[plus minus]0.0028)[times]10[sup 10][h bar] s[sup [minus]1] the phase of [eta][sub +[minus]], [Phi][sub +[minus]]=42.4[degree][plus minus]1.4[degree], and the phase difference between [Phi][sub 00] and [Phi][sub +[minus]], [Delta][Phi]=[minus]1.6[degree][plus minus]1.2[degree]. Comparisons with previous experiments and with [ital CPT] symmetry are given.

Abstract: Data collected in Fermilab experiment E731 was used to perform the first search for the decay K L → π 0 vv. This decay is dominated by short distance effects and is almost entirely direct CP violating within the standard model. Cuts were developed to reject the background processes Λ → nπ 0 and K L → π + e − γv. No candidate events were seen. We find BR (K L → π 0 vv) < 2.2.×10 − at the 90% confidence level

Abstract: A study of prompt neutrino events from 400 GeV protons on a beam-dump is presented. The ratio of electron- to muon-neutrino rates is 0.86±0.14, in agreement withe−μ universality. The anti-neutrino to neutrino flux ratio is $$\bar v_\mu /v_\mu = 0.81 \pm 0.19$$ . The absolute rates and distributions observed are shown to be in quantitative agreement with the known properties of charmedquark production in hadron collisions.

Abstract: We report a value of -[3.3±1.1 (stat)±0.7(syst)]×10 -3 for the quadratic slope parameter h in the Dalitz plot of the K L →3π 0 decay. This result is obtained from a sample of 5.1×10 6 decays. The validity of the ΔI=1/2 rule in the quadratic term is investigated using this result. This is the first measurement of the 3 0 slope parameter, and also the most sensitive measurement of any of the quadratic slope parameters for the charged or neutral kaons

Abstract: Data collected by the E731 experiment at Fermilab were used to search for {ital CPT} violation in {ital K}{sup 0}{r arrow}{pi}{pi} decays by measuring the difference {Delta}{phi} between the phases of the {ital CP}-violating parameters {eta}{sub 00} and {eta}{sub +{minus}}. Our result, {Delta}{phi}={minus}0.3{degree}{plus minus}2.4{degree}{plus minus}1.2{degree}, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic, is consistent with {ital CPT} symmetry.

Abstract: P326 aims at measuring the very rare decay K + → π + ν ν ¯ at the CERN SPS. The Gigatracker should track every particle of the 75 GeV / c hadron beam at a rate of about 1 GHz with time resolution in the 100 ps range and good momentum and angle resolution. The calculated fluence in 100 days of data taking is comparable to the one expected in the inner layers of the silicon trackers in LHC experiments during 10 years of operation. The physics requirements on the Gigatracker performance are overviewed and the preliminary design concept is outlined.

Abstract: The decay rate of K S → π e ν relative to the rate of K L → π e ν has been measured by the NA48 Collaboration in a neutral kaon beam originating from 400 GeV proton-Be interactions at the CERN SPS. The result is 0.993 ± 0.026 stat ± 0.022 syst , compatible with 1 in agreement with the Standard Model prediction at tree level. It implies B R ( K S → π e ν ) = ( 7.05 ± 0.18 stat ± 0.16 syst ) × 10 −4 .

Abstract: We report a measurement of the direct CP violation asymmetry parameter A g in charged kaon decays K ± → π ± π + π − by the NA48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS. The experiment has been designed not to be limited by systematics in the asymmetry measurement. Using 1.67 × 10 9 such decays collected during the 2003 run, the charge asymmetry in the Dalitz plot linear slope parameter g has been measured to be A g = ( 1.7 ± 2.9 ) × 10 −4 . The precision of the result is limited by the statistics used.

Abstract: A novel low-energy neutrino-oscillation experiment NOSTOS, combining a strong tritium source and a high pressure spherical TPC detector (10 m in radius) has been recently proposed. The goal of the experiment is to measure the mixing angle $\theta_{13}$, the neutrino magnetic moment and the Weinberg angle at low energy. The same apparatus, filled with high pressure Xenon, exhibits a high sensitivity as a Super Nova neutrino detector with extra galactic sensitivity. Abstract: Using the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS, 31 KS → π 0γγ candidates with an estimated background of 13.7 ± 3.2 events have been observed. This first observation leads to a branching ratio of BR(KS → π0γγ) z>0.2 = (4.9 ± 1.6stat ± 0.9 syst) × 10-8 in agreement with Chiral Perturbation Theory predictions. © 2003 Elsevier B.V. Abstract: The KS → γγ decay rate has been measured with the NA48 detector using a high intensity short neutral beam from the CERN SPS. The measured branching ratio BR(KS → γγ) = (2.78 ± 0.06stat ± 0.04syst) x 10-6, obtained from 7461 ± 172 KS → γγ events, is significantly higher than the O(p4) prediction of chiral perturbation theory. Using a KL beam the ratio Γ(KL → γγ)/Γ(KL → π0π0π0) = (2.81 ± 0.02syst) ×10-3 has been measured. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract: The direct CP violation parameter Re(epsilon'/epsilon) has been measured from the decay rates of neutral kaons into two pions using the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. The 2001 running period was devoted to collecting additional data under varied conditions compared to earlier years (1997-99). The new data yield the result: Re(epsilon'/epsilon) = (13.7 +/- 3.1) times 10^{-4}. Combining this result with that published from the 1997, 98 and 99 data, an overall value of Re(epsilon'/epsilon) = (14.7 +/- 2.2) times 10^{-4} is obtained from the NA48 experiment., Comment: 19 pages, 5 figures, to be published in Physics Letters B

Abstract: A new beam line and detector were constructed to increase statistical precision and greatly reduce systematic uncertainty on the ratio of the CP-nonconserving parameters epsilon'/epsilon. Major improve- ments are discussed together with a result from a first run: epsilon'/epsilon = 0.0032 +- 0.0028 (statistical) +- 0.0012 (systematic). The precision is better than earlier measurements yet the result is still consistent with the superweak mechanism (which predicts zero) and that due to Kobayashi and Maskawa. Significantly more data are being collected.

Abstract: The authors report on the analysis of inclusive neutral current events produced in neutrino and antineutrino narrow band beams. One finds for incident neutrino energies in the range 12-200 GeV and for hadron energies above 12 GeV a neutral charged current cross-section ratio of R/sub nu /=0.293+or-0.010 for incident neutrinos, and R/sub anti nu /=0.35+or-0.03 for antineutrinos. These ratios are consistent with the Weinberg-Salam model, with sin/sup 2/ theta /sub w/=0.24+or-0.02. (6 refs).

Abstract: We report on results from a study of hadron-energy distributions for ν and ν inclusive neutral current interactions. There is no significant variation of the neutral to charged current total cross-section ratios R ν and R ν with neutrino energy. The space-time structure of neutral currents is dominated by V − A , with a significant admixture of V + A . The Weinberg-Salam model is in agreement with all data if sin 2 θ w =0.24±0.02.

Abstract: A large sample of opposite-sign dimuons, produced by the interaction of neutrinos and antineutrinos in iron, is analysed. The data agree very well with the hypothesis that the extra muon is the product of charm decay. They yield information on the strength and space-time structure of the charmproducing weak current. The strange-sea structure functionxs(x) is determined. The difference between neutrino and antineutrino dimuon production is analysed to provide a value of the Kobayashi-Maskawa weak mixing angleθ2.

Abstract: We report results from a beam dump experiment that has been performed at the CERN SPS neutrino facility using the CDHS neutrino counter detector. Limits on dimuon and trimuon production by new penetrating neutral particles are given. A new source of prompt electron and muon neutrinos has been observed giving (1.2±0.4)× 10−7 νe or νμ per incident proton with neutrino angle smaller than 1.85 mrad and Eν > 20 GeV. If these prompt neutrinos are attributed to charmed meson pair production, the inclusive DD production cross section could be of the order of 30 ωb. If axions are existing their production rate relative to π0 mesons is found to be less than 0.5 × 10−8.

Abstract: A search has been made for neutrino interactions with a positive (wrong-sign) muon in the final state. All the events found can be attributed to known sources. A cut at a visible energy of 100 GeV leaves one event, giving an upper limit for μ + production relative to μ - of 1.6 × 10 −4 at the 90% confidence level. Upper limits are given for (a) charm-changing neutral currents, (b) positive heavy-lepton production, and (c) neutrino-antineutrino oscillations.
