There is substantial evidence of the association between multiple parental involvement and mathematical performance, but the long-term features of these links remain unclear, in particular in China. This study investigated the 8-year trajectory of mathematical performance, and its associations with five forms of parental involvement. The sample consisted of 645 adolescents (50.39% girls; M age  = 10.5 years, SD = 0.50). Latent growth curve modeling showed upward linear growth in mathematics performance. Among five forms of parental involvement, parental educational expectation was the most powerful predictor. Gender differences and similarities were also found in the family-education nexus. The parental expectation was positively associated with their initial performance in mathematics across gender. The predicting roles of parent-child discussion about school and parental TV controls on the baseline level of mathematical performance and the association between parental expectation and the slope of mathematical performance were only identified among boys. This study highlighted the varied impacts of parental involvement on schooling at different developmental stages, and provided important implications for optimizing parenting and schooling., (© 2023. Introduction: Late adolescents differ in the degree to which they are thoroughly engaged in the study choice process and in the degree to which their choices are autonomous in nature. This study examined the unique and interactive roles of (a) parental involvement in the study choice process and (b) late adolescents' sense of having an authentic inner compass (AIC) in predicting their study choice decision-making., Method: A cross-sectional questionnaire study was conducted among 331 12th-grade adolescents from the Flemish part of Belgium (68.3% female; M age  = 18.04, SD = 0.48) in the spring of 2017 and 2018., Results: Results of the latent sum and difference models revealed that late adolescents experiencing a stronger AIC and more need-supportive parental involvement showed more engagement in and autonomous regulation of the study choice process. In contrast, when experiencing more controlling parental involvement or uninvolvement, late adolescents showed more controlled regulation, with parental control also being linked to less commitment. Background: Adolescents are influenced by external factors which may impact their level of physical activity. Parents require specific strategies to become involved and to increase physical activity participation in adolescence., Objective: Thus, the current study aimed to design recommendations to increase physical activity participation and parental involvement., Methods: The current study forms part of a broader mixed-method study in which the results of the phases and stages of the pre-studies informed the current study. Thus, the current study uses an agreement workshop to develop recommendations with stakeholder and expert input in two rounds. Participants were invited to participate in the current study n = 100, and n = 65 participated in round one. Round two consisted of n = 20 experts invited to an agreement workshop, with n = 11 attending and making an input on the final recommendations. Therefore, experts and parents in the field of parenting, physical activity, and physical education, were invited to participate in the study rounds. After each round, the responses from the panellists were collated, interpreted, and developed into a framework for recommendations using thematic analysis. Themes were generated and refined using an agreement format., Results: After results from the stages and phases were consolidated and refined, six themes and 51 sub-themes were identified in a framework for recommendations. The framework was further refined using expert input and the final recommendations were derived using an agreement or agreement. Thus, with input from experts input through the agreement workshop, the findings were discussed, refined, and drafted into recommendations. Agreement and agreement were achieved on six broad recommendations and fifty-one sub-themes. The final recommendations were presented in the current study to increase parental involvement and physical activity in adolescents., Discussion: Recommendations and physical activity resources were developed and are presented as a form of support to parents and adolescents. The recommendations are intended as a source of unbiased information for parents to become more involved and for adolescents to increase physical activity participation.

Background: Research shows that parents of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are burdened with childcare responsibilities and at increased risk for elevated stress and poor family quality of life (FQOL). Little is known, however, about the dynamic interactions between mothers' and fathers' perceived parenting stress in relating to parental involvement and FQOL, especially in the Chinese cultural context., Aims: This study examined the intrapersonal and interpersonal effects of parenting stress on parental involvement and FQOL for families of children with ASD in mainland China., Method: A total of 210 Chinese couples (total N = 420) completed measures of caregiving involvement, perceived parenting stress, and FQOL. The Actor-Partner Interdependence Mediation Model (APIMeM) was employed to examine the dyadic relationships among the variables., Results: Both parents' parenting stress was negatively associated with their own involvement and FQOL. Background: Many studies on parental involvement in their children's education have limitations in cross-sectional designs in spite of examining the relationships between this involvement and achievement goal orientations. Thus, little is known about whether and how parental involvement affects achievement goal orientations over time., Aims: This study examines the influence of parental involvement on achievement goal orientations among Chinese high school students., Sample: The participants included 741 high school students (367 girls; M age  = 15.51 years, SD = .46) in China., Methods: The data were collected in five waves with a 6-month interval, starting in the autumn of tenth grade and ending in the autumn of twelfth grade. In each wave, participants reported their perceived degree of parental involvement, mastery goal orientation, performance-approach goal orientation and performance-avoidance goal orientation., Results: Over time, a decline was seen in these high school students' perceived level of parental involvement and mastery goal orientation, while an increase in their performance-approach goal orientation and stability in terms of their performance-avoidance goal orientation were found. In addition, the results indicated that the level of and changes in parental involvement had significant effects on the changes in mastery goal orientation, and were unrelated to those of two performance goal orientations., Conclusions: These findings evidence the dynamic nature of parental involvement and students' achievement goal orientations, as well as the positive influence of such involvement on the endorsement and development of mastery goal orientation, while this was not the case for the other two performance goal orientations., (© 2019 The British Psychological Society.)

It is not yet known why some adolescents living in poverty show high self-esteem, while others do not. Parental involvement may be an important determinant to promote self-esteem among adolescents living in poverty. The aim of this study is to explore better parenting involvement behavior to promote self-esteem among adolescents living in poverty. Participants included fifth-, eighth-, and 11th-grade students living in Koichi prefecture, Japan. The participants were part of the Kochi Child Health Impact of Living Difficulty (K-CHILD) study, in 2016 ( n = 10,784). Participants completed a questionnaire with questions about socioeconomic status and 14 parental involvement behaviors, including 9 specific kinds of parental interactions with their child (e.g., talking about school life), and 5 elements related to parental care for their child's physical health (e.g., access to health care). The numbers of parental involvement behaviors, parental interactions with their child, and parental care for their child's physical health were treated as continuous and quartile, to see the association. Overall, the study showed that the larger the number of parental involvement behaviors, the higher the self-esteem score of their off-spring ( p < 0.01) among both adolescents living in poverty and not living in poverty, in which interaction between poverty and parental involvement behaviors was not significant. Both parental interaction with their child and parental care for their child's physical health were associated with higher self-esteem, in which parental interaction with their child had a larger effect than parental care for their child's physical health. To empower adolescents in poverty, caregivers need to provide both parental interaction with the child and parental care for the child's physical health.

Background: Gender differences in alcohol use are more substantial among early adolescents in China than in the United States, presumably because of more permissive drinking norms for boys than girls in Chinese culture. This study tested a theory that gender differences in early experimentation with alcohol can be reduced through general parenting practices. Whereas traditional research has identified mediators of gender differences in alcohol use, the current research isolated moderators of gender differences and developed their implications for prevention programs., Methods: The study analyzed the data from the China Global School-Based Student Health Survey (n = 8805 middle school students in four cities). Youth completed anonymous surveys in classroom settings. The study examined interaction effects between gender and parenting variables using multiple regression with robust standard errors., Results: Early adolescent boys exhibited higher levels of drinking than girls for all drinking outcomes. The gender differences in drinking were negatively associated with the level of perceived parental monitoring, parental involvement in adolescent school performance, and parental empathy in a nonlinear way., Conclusions: Results suggested that early adolescents' perceptions of general parenting practice nonlinearly moderated gender disparities in alcohol use.

Parental involvement in education has generally been shown to foster adolescent academic achievement, yet little is known about whether two important forms of parental involvement-how parents respond to academic underachievement and how parents provide cognitive stimulation in the home-are related to academic achievement for African American adolescents. This study uses two waves of data to evaluate whether these forms of parental involvement are related to future academic achievement for low-income African American adolescents and whether there are gender differences in these associations. African American mothers and adolescents (N = 226; 48% girls) were interviewed when adolescents were ages 14 and 16. Mothers of girls reported higher mean levels of punitive responses to grades than mothers of boys, but child gender did not moderate associations between parental involvement and academic achievement. Cognitive stimulation in the home was related to changes in academic achievement from 14 to 16 years of age, controlling for age 14 academic achievement. This study provides evidence that nonpunitive responses to inadequate grades and cognitive stimulation at home are linked to academic achievement among African American adolescents.

Objective: To explore the experiences of parents and their adolescent children, specifically the dimension of parental involvement in the lives of their adolescent children and how adolescents perceived it., Methods: Following informed consent, a total of nine families with 22 participants took part in the study including nine adolescents, aged between 14 and 16 y, and 13 parents. One-on-one in-depth interviews were conducted at their homes following informed consent. Following transcription, the data was coded and themes were identified using Atlas.ti software. A grounded theory approach was undertaken in analysing the data., Results: Two main themes were identified including perceptions of parental involvement in the lives of their adolescent children and family strategies to improve bonding. Adolescents' concerns centered on reduced interaction time with their family members. Concerns were also raised over the adolescents' increasing academic burden and parents particularly emphasized the increasing use of media and mobile technology by adolescents as deterrents to interaction. Though mothers functioned as primary caregivers, fathers also took on more active roles in the rearing of their children, stepping away from the traditionally viewed role of being a distant patriarchal provider. To improve interaction, parents devised creative strategies to increase time spent interacting with family members such as having dinner, performing household chores, playing games, or visiting places together., Conclusions: The increasing academic burden and access to digital media were perceived as factors leading to reduced interaction between the parent-adolescent dyad. Creative parenting strategies to increase interaction were sought as a solution.

Background: The early years are a crucial period to promote healthy energy balance-related behaviours in children and prevent overweight and obesity. The childcare setting is important for health-promoting interventions. Increasingly, attention has been paid to parental involvement in childcare-based interventions. The aim of this systematic review is to evaluate the effectiveness of these interventions with direct parental involvement on the children's weight status and behavioural outcomes., Methods: A systematic search was conducted in four electronic databases to include studies up until January 2019. Studies written in English, describing results on relevant outcomes (weight status, physical activity, sedentary behaviour and/or nutrition-related behaviour) of childcare-based interventions with direct parental involvement were included. Studies not adopting a pre-post-test design or reporting on pilot studies were excluded. To improve comparability, effect sizes (Cohen's d) were calculated. Information on different types of environment targeted (e.g., social, physical, political and economic) was extracted in order to narratively examine potential working principles of effective interventions., Results: A total of 22 studies, describing 17 different interventions, were included. With regard to the intervention group, 61.1% found some favourable results on weight status, 73.3% on physical activity, 88.9% on sedentary behaviour, and all on nutrition-related behaviour. There were studies that also showed unfavourable results. Only a small number of studies was able to show significant differences between the intervention and control group (22.2% weight status, 60.0% physical activity, 66.6% sedentary behaviour, 76.9% nutrition behaviour). Effect sizes, if available, were predominantly small to moderate, with some exceptions with large effect sizes. The interventions predominantly targeted the socio-cultural and physical environments in both the childcare and home settings. Including changes in the political environment in the intervention and a higher level of intensity of parental involvement appeared to positively impact intervention effectiveness., Conclusion: Childcare-based interventions with direct parental involvement show promising effects on the children's energy balance-related behaviours. However, evidence on effectiveness is limited, particularly for weight-related outcomes. Better understanding of how to reach and involve parents may be essential for strengthening intervention effectiveness.

Students' worries about transitioning to college are correlated with long-term reduced psychological well-being, so we investigated how psychological need satisfaction might mitigate millennials' worries about college. As parents can support or undermine their children's basic needs, we also examined the influence of autonomy-supportive and helicopter parenting during the transition. Additionally, we compared these outcomes between first- and continuing-generation students. Incoming college students (N = 355) completed measures of parental relationship need satisfaction, parental involvement, worries about college, and family achievement guilt. Higher need satisfaction in the parental relationship was associated with reduced worries and feelings of achievement guilt for both first- and continuing-generation students. Autonomy-supportive parenting moderated the relationship between autonomy and millennials' worries about college. Helicopter parenting did not moderate any of the relationships examined in this study but was positively associated with students' transition worries and achievement guilt. We discuss these findings in the context of self-determination theory.

Parents' educational aspirations for youth play an important role in shaping youth's own educational aspirations; however, little is known about how and in what context parents may transmit their aspirations to youth effectively. This is of particular interest and import to be examined in Chinese families, given Chinese cultural emphasis on educational achievement and Chinese youth's outstanding academic performance internationally. By integrating several key theories of motivation and parental socialization (i.e., the expectancy-value model of academic achievement, the two-step model of value transmission, the contextual model of parenting, and the self-determination theory), the current study investigated simultaneously the mediating roles of parental involvement in youth's learning and youth's perceptions of parental aspirations, as well as the moderating role of parental warmth in the intergenerational transmission process of educational aspirations in Chinese families. A two-wave longitudinal study spanning about half a year was conducted among 323 Chinese seventh graders (54% female; M age  = 13.25 years) and one of their parents (median educational attainment = completion of high school, median monthly income = USD 766-1226). It was found that parental educational aspirations for youth were related positively both indirectly through parental involvement and directly to youth's perceptions of parental aspirations, which in turn were associated positively with youth's own educational aspirations about half a year later. It was also found that parental educational aspirations for youth and youth's own educational aspirations were associated positively with each other only when youth reported experiencing high levels of parental warmth, but unrelated when youth reported experiencing low levels of parental warmth, whereas such moderating effects of parental warmth were absent on the links from parental aspirations to youth's perceptions of parental aspirations and parental involvement. These findings highlight the importance of integrating multiple theories to understand parent-to-youth transmission of educational aspirations in non-western cultures, which helps not only reveal generalizability, as well as boundary conditions for Western-originated theories, but also inform practical endeavors at promoting youth's educational achievement worldwide to draw on strengths of different cultures.

Self-determined learning is essential to academic success. The motivational resources development model argues that parents promote academic success in their children indirectly by nurturing self-determined learner. In this study, applying a structural equation modelling and using data collected from 8th graders in Zhuhai, China (n = 1009) in 2012, we aim to answer 2 research questions: (a) What forms of parental involvement are highly correlated with self-determined learning and (b) Can self-determined learning fully mediate the relationship between parental involvement and students' academic performance? We find that parental leisure involvement is positively and significantly associated with the development of self-determined learning, which in turn is significantly and positively correlated with academic achievement. The present study explored the role of parents' in-session and out-session involvement in CBT for anxious children. Fifty 8- to 12-year-old children with a principal DSM-IV anxiety disorder participated in a group CBT program. Parental involvement in the therapy was assessed by the clinician and the children and parents completed a standardized anxiety scale as the main therapy outcome measure, at pre- and post-intervention. In addition, the parents completed questionnaires to evaluate a number of possible correlates of parental involvement, namely, child's anxiety symptoms intensity and interference, parental beliefs about anxiety, expectancies regarding the efficacy of the intervention, and parental anxiety. The results indicated that the parents were moderately involved in the therapy and that socio-economic status and parental beliefs about anxiety were significant correlates of parental involvement. Finally, partial support was found for the idea that parents' involvement in the therapy might have a positive impact on therapy outcome.

While studies on effort (e.g., Carbonaro, 2005; Kariya, 2000, 2013) have revealed relationships among students' effort (e.g., self-reported learning time), socioeconomic status, and school-related factors (e.g., tracking) through secondary education data, whether and how the effort gap emerges and widens in the early years of compulsory education have not been researched. This study investigates the beginning of inequality in effort by using four waves (from first- to fourth-grade students) of the Longitudinal Survey of Babies in the 21st Century, collected in Japan. The results indicate that college-educated parents tend to employ parenting practices that directly and indirectly shape children's learning time; inequality in effort exists, and it becomes exacerbated partly because of parenting differences in a society with a relatively equal elementary education system., (Copyright © 2015 Elsevier Inc. In Europe, about 20% of children are overweight. Focus on parental responsibility is an effective method in weight control interventions in children. In this systematic review we describe the intensity of parental involvement and behaviour change aimed at parents in long-term European childhood weight control interventions. We include European Union studies targeting parents in order to improve children's weight status in multi-component (parental, behaviour change and nutrition) health promotion or lifestyle interventions. The included studies have at least one objectively measured anthropometric outcome in the weight status of the child. Parental involvement was described and categorized based on the intensity of parental involvement and coded using a validated behaviour change taxonomy specific to childhood obesity. Twenty-four studies were analysed. In effective long-term treatment studies, medium and high intensity parental involvement were identified most frequently; whereas in prevention studies low intensity parental involvement was identified most frequently. Parenting skills, generic and specific to lifestyle behaviour, scored frequently in effective weight control interventions. To list parental skills in generic and specific to lifestyle, descriptions of the included studies were summarized. One purpose of this study was to determine whether parental involvement, measured in late adolescence, mediates the relationship between delinquency in mid-adolescence and crime in early adulthood. This study's second purpose was to ascertain whether this relationship is moderated by sex, such that late adolescent parental involvement mediates the delinquency-crime relationship in females but not in males. A secondary analysis of data provided by 579 (272 males, 307 females) members of the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth-Child (NLSYC) was conducted in an effort to evaluate the possibility of moderated mediation in the relationship between delinquency at age 16, parental involvement at age 18, and criminality at age 24. Moderated mediation analysis, path analysis, and causal mediation analysis revealed the presence of a conditional indirect relationship between delinquency, parental involvement, and adult crime moderated by sex. Parents inevitable role in nurturing their child does not end at home. It extends its care and involvement towards their child's schooling. The involvement of parents in academic performance of their child. The study aims to know the correlation of parental involvement and academic performance of Grade 6 learners in San Francisco District and make a guideline that will help in parental engagement. Using descriptive-correlational research design approach that utilizes survey questionnaire to gather numerical data, the researcher compared the academic performance and the student's perception on parental involvement with a ten item questionnaire focusing on Epstein Theory of Parental Involvement such as parenting, communicating, volunteering, learning at home, decision-making and collaborating with the community. With 140 sample population the results showed that there is no significant relationship between the academic performance to parental involvement but there is a significant relationship with regards to the parentchild relationship and parental involvement. The goal of the study was to determine the relationship between parental involvement, mathematical skills, and students' mathematics performance. The researchers employed a descriptive correlational research design to determine the relationship between math performance, parental involvement, and mathematical skills. The participants of the study were 67 first-year and 56 second-year education students of private university currently enrolled during the second semester of the school year 2022-2023. Total Enumeration Sampling technique was used in the selection of the participants. Likewise, adapted survey questionnaires were used to ascertain the level of parental involvement, mathematical skills, and students' mathematics performance. The findings of the study revealed that the students have a moderately high level of parental involvement from their parents and a high level of mathematical skills in terms of interest and study habits but have a low performance in mathematics. Thus students' math performance is not directly affected by the students' parental involvement of their parents, interest, and study habits. This study leverages a unique combination of PISA survey data and Danish registry data to explore the educational gaps in Denmark between adolescents with native and non-Western immigrant backgrounds, focussing on personality traits, school wellbeing, parental involvement and family norms. The study investigates gaps in GPA at age 16 and in length of final education at around age 30. Key findings indicate that parental involvement and family norms significantly mediate the immigrant–native GPA gap, while personality traits do not significantly explain the immigrant–native gaps. Furthermore, the immigrant–native gap in length of final education at age 30 is more than fully explained when accounting for adolescence socio-economic characteristics and parental expectations and involvement. This article explores the experiences of three Latina women who migrated to the United States from different countries and navigated the challenges of raising their children in a cross-cultural environment while striving to preserve their cultural heritage and language. Through narrative interviews and thematic analysis, the study highlights the significance of language as a cultural bridge and the advantages of bilingualism in a multicultural society. The findings reveal that these mothers actively engage in teaching their children their native language, emphasizing the importance of language in maintaining cultural roots and connections with their home countries. They recognize the economic advantages of bilingualism, believing it provides their children with increased job opportunities and professional advantages. Additionally, the study underscores the sacrifices these mothers make for their children’s education and the crucial role of parental involvement in language development and cultural preservation. The findings have implications for policymakers, educators, and parents, emphasizing the importance of supporting bilingual education and recognizing the value of cultural diversity in society. This quantitative research study aimed to examine the role of well-being in students' perceived parental autonomy support and academic achievement. The study collected data through questionnaires to assess students' perceptions in these areas. The findings indicated that both mothers and fathers were perceived to provide relatively low levels of autonomy support with a higher perception of psychological control. Despite students' overall academic success, a substantial proportion reported low levels of well-being. The study showed a significantly positive correlation between the perceived parental autonomy support of mothers and fathers (p = <.001). Additionally, significantly weak positive correlations were found between perceived maternal autonomy support and well-being (p < 0.043), highlighting the crucial role of the mother's involvement in promoting student well-being. However, no significant correlations were found between parental autonomy support and academic achievement for either mothers (p = 0.963) or fathers (p = 0.948), indicating the need for further investigation into the role of maternal support in academic success. Overall, the study highlights the significance of parental autonomy support, well-being, and academic achievement in students' lives. Providing students with resources and support services to improve their well-being is crucial in creating a positive learning environment that fosters engagement, motivation, and goal-setting. Chile was one of the OECD member countries where schools stayed closed the longest during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study provides information about the type of relationship constructed between families and preschools and the conditions under which parental involvement occurred in distance learning experiences during the interruption of in-person educational activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic, from the perspective of 83 principals who lead preschools located in urban and rural areas affected by poverty in Chile. Our findings show that the principals viewed the pandemic as an opportunity to raise awareness and improve educators' knowledge about students' family contexts, diversify and adapt families' modes of participation to their knowledge and living conditions, and incorporate them into the pedagogical decisions that distance learning prompted throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. These findings pose questions regarding the sustainability of these new post-pandemic practices; in other words, whether it is sustainable to shift from a collaborative and instrumental logic of family participation to another that is based on recognition and dialogue and that takes into account families' needs, interests, and possibilities regardless of the economic, digital, and territorial precariousness that characterises their life. The present study investigated the longitudinal associations of self-control and parental involvement with prosociality and internalizing problems from early to mid-to-late adolescence, within a risk and resilience and a developmental cascade framework. We used a panel design (i.e., four measurement times at 2-year intervals from 2008 onwards) to examine data on 1523 Swiss adolescents when they were aged about 11, 13, 15, and 17. A cross-lagged analytical approach was used to respond to our purpose. Results showed that parental involvement promotes later levels of prosociality from early to mid-to-late adolescence. Furthermore, we observed that parental involvement predicted later improvements in self-control and that prosociality and internalizing problems mutually and positively predicted each other during the same period. Our findings suggest that interventions aimed at promoting positive parental involvement with their offspring may contribute to later adolescent prosociality and self-control and that health professionals should consider encouraging a healthy balance between self-interest and concern for others. This study examines the impact of parental involvement on Grade 4 learners' reading performance in Sierra Bullones, Bohol. The research aimed to assess the status of parental involvement and its relationship with learners' reading abilities, based on data from 113 parent-child pairs. Key findings include a significant positive correlation between the extent of parental involvement and learners' reading performance. The study reveals that most respondents are female, aged 31-40 years, and have diverse educational backgrounds, primarily high school graduates. This study investigates the impact of parental involvement on the education outcomes of their children, specifically focusing on the completion of high school. It extends the existing literature by considering the characteristics of both children and parents, and by examining non-school-related parental involvement in a child's everyday life. The analysis utilizes a publicly available database, the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1997, with a sample of American respondents born between 1983 and 1984 who lived with both birth parents during their early teenage years. The study employs simple logistic regression and subclassification on propensity score to estimate causal treatment effects. The results indicate that higher parental involvement is associated with an increased probability of high school graduation, while stricter parental behaviour is found to decrease the expected likelihood of completing high school. Parental involvement is a multifaceted activity which represents many different parental behaviors and parenting practices such as parental aspiration for their child's academic achievement, parental communication with their children about school, parental participation in school activities, parental communications with teachers about their child, and parental rules at home which are considered education related. Republic Act No. 9155 otherwise known as the Governance of Basic Education Act of 2001 under section 1.2 stated that the parents and the community shall be encouraged for active involvement in the education of the child. This study works on determining the relationship of parental involvement and mechanisms on child's learning outcomes through the collection of data using survey questionnaire and utilization of descriptive correlational research design. Moreover, Pearson's R was used in treating the data collected. Parental involvement (PI) in the transition from preschool to primary school is an important prerequisite for children with disabilities to start school successfully. Therefore, the present study looks at PI practices that are conducted to support successful inclusive transition processes in Germany. The focus is on practices that take place in the institutional context of early childhood facilities. The data base consists of qualitative guideline-based interviews with n = 22 preschool teachers. The data analysis comprises two steps: 1) a qualitative content analysis and 2) a systematic comparison of teachers and their transition practices according to specific teacher characteristics, such as professional experience. The results show that communication formats between teachers and parents regarding a child’s development or general issues such as the course of the last preschool year are most widely established to involve parents in the transition process. Some teachers also claim to inform parents about additional support for their child and involve parents in preschool or school visits. This study examined the extent and nature of parental involvement in the education of students with visual impairment in the city of Woldia, Ethiopia, as well as the associated challenges these parents face. A qualitative approach was employed, utilising a case‐study design. A purposive sample of 14 participants, consisting of parents of students with visual impairment, was selected for in‐depth interviews and focus group discussions. The collected data underwent thematic analysis to identify key themes and patterns. The results indicate that parents of children with visual impairment actively engage in their child's education by providing materials, creating supportive environments and maintaining communication with schools. Challenges to parental involvement included poor communication with schools, a lack of involvement in at‐home learning, limited participation in volunteer activities and minimal involvement in decision‐making. These challenges were influenced by factors such as time constraints, false beliefs, scant knowledge of Braille‐related activities and negative attitudes towards parental involvement. Additionally, the study revealed a lack of collaboration between parents and communities in the education of children with visual impairment. These challenges need addressing and parental involvement in the education of these students should be enhanced. Despite the growing popularity of social network sites (SNSs) in educational settings, there has been a lack of comprehensive review studies focused on the effects of SNSs used for educational purposes. This study seeks to address this gap by examining the impact of SNS use on motivations, attitudes, learning outcomes, and parental involvement, which have been infrequently studied in previous research. Employing a systematic review based on the protocol of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), our findings indicate that the use of SNSs has the potential to enhance learners' motivations, engender positive attitudes, and improve learning outcomes. However, it is also observed that parental involvement may complicate SNS-assisted learning outcomes. Consequently, this study explores methods for improving SNS-assisted learning motivations, attitudes, and outcomes, as well as the effects of parental involvement on SNS-assisted learning. The impact of parents on academic achievement has been discussed for many years; however, less interest has been shown in whether their involvement in education influences students' academic motivation. This study attempted to determine the overall impact of parental involvement on the academic motivation of students. The analysis was conducted by using data from 256 correlational values drawn from 37 studies involving 45,428 students. A meta-analysis was performed through the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Program. In the analysis process, the standardized mean difference, based on the random effect model, was employed as a measure of the mean effect size, and the Q statistic was used to assess the significance of the moderator variables. This study demonstrated that parental involvement exerted a small but significant overall impact on students' academic motivation. AbstractThis article presents findings from a qualitative study exploring parents’ struggles over their children’s education. Drawing on affective practice theory (Wetherell 2012) and feminist care ethics (Fisher and Tronto 1990), we offer insights into the affective practices of care driving parents’ educational activism. We detail how parents’ activism is rooted in both powerful feelings of parental responsibility and wider, more altruistic concerns. We argue that parents’ activism disrupts the binary between altruism and self-interest, indicating instead they can be mutually constitutive of collective action; a complex form of affective practice we designate altruistic self-interest. Our analysis suggests parental activism can be a force for progressive educational change in which care for intimates and care for others coincide, but also that educational authorities might adopt a more care-full approach when making key decisions affecting children, families and communities. Introduction: The Ecological Systems Model of Creativity Development (ESMCD) proposes that parental involvement positively impacts student creativity. However, prior empirical studies present mixed results, including positive, negative, and no correlations between these variables. Methods: To synthesize these inconsistent primary studies, the current study conducted a systematic meta-analysis synthesizing 30 primary studies involving 37 independent samples with 70 effect sizes and a total N = 20,906 participants. Results: The results demonstrated: (1) an overall significant small, positive correlation (r = 0.101) between parental involvement and student creativity; (2) significant small, positive correlations between specific involvement types (autonomy support r = 0.144; behavioral control r = 0.133; content support r = 0.131) and creativity, alongside a significant small, negative correlation between psychological control and creativity (r = -0.117); (3) no statistically significant moderating effects of student grade level, parental gender, region, or publication type. Discussion: This systematic meta-analytic review consolidates empirical evidence indicating that parental involvement positively predicts students' creativity, while highlighting the detrimental impact of psychological control on creative outcomes. Further research elucidating the mechanisms underlying these relations is critical for informing parenting approaches and education policies seeking to foster creativity development among students. Although parental involvement is known to be crucial for the academic and social development of students, especially those with learning difficulties, little is known about the relationship of schools’ invitations with parents’ motivational beliefs. A sample of N = 881 German parents of secondary school students, of which N = 119 were identified as parents of children with learning difficulties, participated in the study. Structural equation models were analysed to examine how different aspects of family–school partnerships are related to parental motivational beliefs. Our findings suggest that a welcoming culture and the quality of parent-teacher collaboration are positively associated with higher parental motivation, regardless of students’ learning difficulties. These results highlight the need for inclusive secondary schools to foster not only individual contacts between teachers and parents but also a positive and welcoming school culture. AbstractClimate change education is crucial to addressing the climate crisis. Studies show that parents and guardians can play an important role in transmitting knowledge, competencies, and a pro-environmental orientation to their children. Whilst climate change education can span many disciplines, it has been effective within science education. In this paper we embrace evidence-based effective approaches to science education, with parents. Climate change education research literature published to date focusses on school-based interventions and there is a dearth of literature on parental involvement. This paper describes the development of, and outcomes associated with, a programme to promote engagement with climate change education for families from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds. Data were gathered through post semi-structured interviews and reflections on posters and photos created and collected throughout the programme. Findings indicate that this approach engaged parents in climate change education with their children and successfully addressed various misconceptions. In the social context of the "Educational Involution", the educational expectations of parents have a potential influence on the development of children. High parental educational expectations create parental anxiety, which in turn results in a rise in parental involvement and eventually promotes the growth and progress of children. The current study administered an electronic questionnaire to 891 parents of young children in four provinces of China. The questionnaire included the Parental Educational Expectations Scale, the Educational Anxiety Scale, the Parental Involvement Scale, and the Child Development Scale. This study used SPSS 27.0 for statistical data analysis and the SPSS macro program PROCESS to explore the mediation role. We found that (1) educational anxiety plays a mediating role between parental educational expectations and child development; (2) parental involvement has a mediating effect between parental educational expectations and child development; and (3) educational anxiety and parental involvement play a chain mediating role between parental educational expectations and child development. In conclusion, parental educational expectations appear to contribute to child development, and this effect may be mediated individually and sequentially by educational anxiety and parental involvement. Under current and prominent definitions, the rates of parental involvement among Hispanic/Latino families have been historically low. However, empirical evidence suggests that parental involvement can be perceived/practiced in varied ways. This work explored these perceptions held by Spanish-speaking Hispanic/Latino families through focus groups (n = 10) and individual interviews (n = 23) with parents of school-age children. Findings suggest that Spanish-speaking parents define parental involvement to include the emphasis of educación (a recognition that children's moral compasses and respectful behavior are a part of their formal education) and a parent-centered approach (involving the children in the parents everyday life), while navigating language barriers. Both Spanish- and English-speaking parents endorsed low parent-teacher communication and strong educational aspirations for their children. That is, parents expressed wanting their children to have a better life than the lives the parents have experienced themselves. This study offers empirical evidence that Spanish-speaking families are highly involved in their children's academic development and perceive themselves to play a critical role in their children's educational success. A shared understanding of values including culturally responsive measures to assess diverse parental involvement practices and adopting a cultural lens among teachers/educators is needed to accommodate diverse cultural parental involvement practices. Study findings can inform policies and practice to help pre-service teachers and educators to understand factors that determine Spanish-speaking families' engagement in school-based parental involvement. Parents can have a significant impact on student progress, but it is unclear whether generally influential forms of parental involvement can be identified or if they have a differential impact. Our research focuses on the impact of different forms of parental involvement (at-home and in-school involvement) on primary and high school students' academic performance, and we also examine the differences between low- and high-status families. Our quantitative research analyzed data from all students that were in Grade 6 and Grade 10 in Hungary in 2019, and we conducted analysis using the Hungarian National Competency Assessment database (n = 183.366). We examined how parental involvement affects children's mathematics and reading achievements. The results of our research were as follows: (1) Parental involvement type impacts student achievement. Home-based PI has a negative effect, while teacher–parent conferences and discussing school events have a positive effect. (2) The link between parental involvement and student achievement is weaker for higher-status families compared to lower-status families. Based on our results, the generalizability of the positive impact of parental involvement can be questioned because not all forms of it have a favorable effect on student achievement. All newborns undergo minor painful procedures (e.g., injections). Despite strong evidence supporting parents' efficacy to reduce procedural pain (e.g., breastfeeding), parents remain an underutilized resource. Limited evidence‐based resources about infant procedural pain management targeting parents in the perinatal period exist. We co‐created Parenting Pain Away, a website to enhance parents' access to information and participation in procedural pain management following birth. This study aimed to conduct iterative usability testing with the perinatal population to refine Parenting Pain Away based on target users' identified needs and satisfaction. In 2020, parents of healthy newborns or expectant parents from an Atlantic Canadian province, participated in two iterative cycles of usability testing of Parenting Pain Away. Through recorded interviews, participants were directed to use the "Think Aloud" approach (e.g., verbalize what they see, think, feel) as they navigated through the website. Participants completed online questionnaires related to demographics and user satisfaction, measured by the Post Study System Usability Questionnaire (PSSUQ). Descriptive statistics and content analysis were conducted to analyze the data. In total, there were 10 participants with an average age of 29.9 years (SD = 3.9). Participants identified as mothers (n = 7) or fathers (n = 3) and were expecting (n = 6) or had a newborn (n = 4). The PSSUQ overall scores were 1.84 (SD = 0.55) and 1.34 (SD = 0.49) in Cycles 1 and 2, respectively, indicating high user satisfaction on the 7‐point scale. When comparing between the two cycles, the average overall score was lower in Cycle 2, suggesting improved satisfaction. Participants provided positive feedback about the website and suggested major refinements to simplify content and site navigation. Findings from usability testing cycles were used to inform refinements of the Parenting Pain Away in response to participant satisfaction and feedback. Parents are big part of the success of the learners especially so when we talk about reading competence. Its involvement would require time and effort as in controlling, motivating, monitoring, and providing. This study aims to determine the extent of parental involvement in the reading competence of the third graders at Sta.Cruz, Bagong Nayon 1 and Peace Village Elementary School in Antipolo City. Interviews, literature reviews as well as survey questionnaires were utilized to gather pertinent data. Weighted mean and t-test were used to treat the gathered data. Results revealed that the extent of parental involvement in controlling, motivating, monitoring, and providing are found to be less involved in the reading competence. There is a significant difference between the extent of parental involvement in the reading competence of the Grade 3 learners. However, there is no significant relationship between the extent of parental involvement in the reading competence of Grade 3 pupils and their academic performance in English. This study concludes that the parental involvement in reading competence whether very highly involved or less involved has no effect on the academic performance of the grade 3 learners. This study explores the relationship between parental involvement and students' engagement among junior high school students at MSU-MSAT during the First Semester of the Academic Year 2023-2024. It examines the extent of parental involvement across various domains, evaluates the level of students' engagement, and investigates the correlation between parental involvement and students' engagement. The research involves 165 junior high school students from MSU-MSAT in Maigo, Lanao del Norte, utilizing a descriptive research design. Data is collected through a questionnaire and analyzed using frequency and percentage, average-weighted value, and chi-square. The findings reveal that parents are most active in parenting and communication, with less engagement in volunteering and community collaboration. Parental involvement in learning at home and decision-making is sporadic. Conversely, junior high school students demonstrate engagement in behavioral, emotional, and cognitive dimensions. Involvement of parents is crucial in students' lives. The level of parental participation that a pupil receives at school and/or at home can influence how successful they will be in school. To better understand how parent involvement with children who have intellectual disabilities might improve their academic achievement, this research intended to raise parents' knowledge of it. The study used a correlational research approach, and the findings indicated that parental involvement in their children's learning performance while they are experiencing intellectual obstacles will always offer significant or exceptional relationships. Based on providing learners' improvements in their learning, the parental involvement or participations will supply an instant increase or well-supported advancement in some way. Meanwhile, it was discovered that the most frequent responses from the parents were as follows: parents watch over their children's screen time, playtime, and internet use; they make sure to have time to participate in their children’s school activities; they attend every orientation the school calls for online/modular classes; and they are the kind of parents who place limits on what their children can and cannot do. Most of the parents who responded to the dichotomous questions about the performance of students with intellectual disabilities over the past three years agreed that there had been an improvement or rise in their children's performance. Many parents disagreed with the addition that there had been little to no progress made in their children's academic performance. Based on self-determination theory, this study examined the extent to which the satisfaction of the basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and social relatedness in instrumental lessons explain the quality and quantity of motivation, which are responsible for persistence and dropout in music schools. This study also investigated whether parental involvement contributes to dropout. A total of 140 music students from Austria (37.16% male, 62.1% female, 0.8% diverse) were surveyed using a quantitative questionnaire. The central variables are the tendency to dropout (dependent variable) and, as predictors, the motivational regulation styles, the satisfaction of basic psychological needs in the classroom and parental involvement. The results of a structural equation model indicated that satisfaction of basic needs in class and parental involvement, mediated by motivation, predicted dropout tendencies. Autonomous motivation in lessons is negatively associated and controlled motivation is positively associated with the tendency to drop out of music schools. Satisfaction of basic psychological needs during lessons and parental involvement predicts autonomous motivation. However, basic psychological needs cannot predict controlled motivation but parental involvement can predict controlled motivation to a limited extent. This research investigates the complex relationships between university management strategies, student resilience, and their collective impact on student well-being and psychological distress in the setting of higher education. The aim of this study was to thoroughly examine how these factors interact and how their combined impact affects students' psychological distress and overall well-being. Determining the mediating and moderating roles of autonomy, parental involvement, and coping mechanisms in these connections was another goal of the research. A sample of 422 students from various higher education schools was randomly selected to participate using a quantitative approach. An online questionnaire was used to obtain data on latent constructs connected to the variables of interest. For data analysis, SmartPLS 4 software with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used. The study revealed significant relationships between university management strategies, student resilience, coping mechanisms, autonomy, and parental involvement, impacting student well-being and psychological distress. Coping mechanisms and autonomy played mediating roles, elucidating the mechanisms through which these relationships operated. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the intricate dynamics impacting student well-being and psychological distress in higher education. Scholars widely recognize parental involvement in education as a significant factor in children's academic success, particularly in the domain of reading. This systematic review aimed to examine the role of parental involvement in the implementation of reading programs and its effect on the reading achievement of elementary school learners. Through a comprehensive search of academic databases, relevant studies published in peer-reviewed journals between 2010 and 2023 were identified and analyzed. The review included various forms of parental involvement, such as participation in reading-related activities at home, communication between parents and teachers, and parental engagement in school-based reading initiatives. Findings indicated a positive association between parental involvement in reading programs and children's reading achievement. Specifically, active parental engagement, such as reading with children at home, providing a print-rich environment, and communicating regularly with teachers about their child's progress, was consistently linked with higher levels of reading proficiency among elementary school learners. Moreover, the review highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts between schools and families in designing and implementing reading programs. Programs that actively involved parents in decision-making processes, provided resources and support for parental involvement, and fostered positive relationships between parents and educators were more likely to yield significant improvements in students' reading outcomes. However, challenges related to parental involvement, such as socioeconomic disparities, language barriers, and varying levels of parental education, were also identified. Addressing these challenges required tailored strategies that recognized and accommodated the diverse needs and circumstances of families. This study examines the relationship between parental involvement and academic achievement among adolescents and potential mechanisms underlying this relationship. Using data from six waves of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey, this study estimated fixed effects models to account for individual-level heterogeneity. Sobel mediation tests were employed to examine the mediating roles of four aspects of school adjustment, namely: (a) academic engagement, (b) compliance with school rules, (c) positive peer relationships, and (d) positive teacher–student relationships. Results revealed that parental involvement is positively associated with adolescents' academic achievement (b = 0.172). Proposed mechanism variables explain approximately 68.6% of the association, with academic engagement being the most salient pathway.
