Shaoyang being in charge of bone theory is originally from the Huangdi Neijing. After the continuous deepening and improvement of many generations of doctors in the past, it has now become a comprehensive theoretical system of traditional Chinese medicine for orthopedic diseases. Osteoporosis is a systemic chronic bone metabolic disease. Its main form is the loss of bone mass in the whole body and the destruction of bone microstructure. This characteristic corresponds to flaccidity of bones, bone bi-disease, and other traditional Chinese bone diseases. However, modern doctors rarely treat such diseases from the perspective of Shaoyang. In this paper, the essence of Shaoyang being in charge of bone and the connection between Shaoyang and OP are clearly sorted out. The method of treating OP from the perspective of Shaoyang is discussed. This has practical significance of the theory of Shaoyang being in charge of bone and has extremely great value for guiding the TCM prevention and treatment program of OP patients. Objective Based on the theory of "Brain as Marrow Sea", this paper analyzes the relationship between Alzheimer's disease (AD) and osteoporosis (OP), and explores the common pathogenesis of the two diseases, so as to spread the idea of prevention and treatment of OP. Methods The association between OP and AD was explored by searching CNKI, Wanfang, Pubmed and other databases on the theory of " Brain as Marrow Sea" and the ancient Chinese medical literature, clinical and experimental studies on OP and AD. Results The brain is the sea of marrow is from the Huangdi Neijing. The doctors' knowledge of the brain and the Sea of marrow is constantly deepening. They realize that the sea of marrow is full of nourishment for the bones, strong muscles and bones, intelligent and quick-witted, the bone and brain systems depend on each other physiologically through the marrow. OP and AD share the same physiological and pathological basis. Conclusion The theory of "Brain as Marrow Sea" is of great value in guiding the understanding of the common pathogenesis of AD and OP. Most doctors take the liver, kidney, spleen, muscle, bone and muscle as their guidance in the prevention and treatment of OP, we neglect the important role of brain-marrow, and expect to find out more ways to prevent and treat OP based on this theory. Objective To explore the correlation between serum pentosidine levels and osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCF). Methods Prospectively analyzed the serum pentose levels of 120 patients who underwent bone mineral density examination;Serum pentosidine level was evaluated using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Among all the patients, 33 with OVCF were assigned to the vertebral fracture group and 87 who did not have vertebral fracture were included in the non-fracture group. In addition, we used the Fracture Risk Assessment (FRAX) tool Korean version to assess the 10-year probability of fracture. Results There was a statistically significant difference in the mean serum pentosidine level (P = 0.04) of the vertebral fracture group (110. 8 ng/mL) and the non-fracture group (64.3 ng/mL). Logistic regression analyses showed that serum pentosidine was significantly associated with OVCF. The 10-year probability of severe osteoporotic fractures in the vertebral fracture group was significantly higher than that in the non-fracture group (P<0.05) , and the incidence of osteoporotic fractures in the vertebral fracture group was higher than that in the non-fracture group (P< 0. 05). There was a positive correlation between pentosidine level and FRAX result (r = 0.35, P- 0.02). Conclusion The elevated serum pentose levels were closely related to the occurrence of OVCF.
