Mannich condensations were used to prepare a series of multidentate aminophenol compounds from ethylenediamine, various amounts of paraformaldehyde and 2,4-disubstituted phenols. One of these diaminotetraphenol compounds was reacted with Zn(OAc) 2 ·2H 2 O and the resulting solid state structure of the pentacoordinated Zn(II) compound was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.
