The article discusses the job description, qualifications, and responsibilities of an ophthalmic-optometric assistant. It says that an ophthalmic-optometric assistant is a professional with a high school diploma, with outstanding interpersonal skills, and with a professional behavior who is supervised by an ophthalmologist or an optometrist. To be an ophthalmic-optometric assistant, one has to complete one year of supervised ophthalmic specific on the job training and/or are a graduate of an accredited ophthalmic-optometric assistant/technical program. Although under the supervision of an ophthalmologist or optometrist, it notes that ophthalmic-optometric assistants are likewise required to use their logical skills for independent thinking and discretionary action.
