1. Machine Learning for Turning Optical Fiber Specklegram Sensor into a Spatially-Resolved Sensing System. Proof of Concept.

Abstract

Fiber Specklegram Sensors (FSSs) are highly sensitive to external perturbations, however, trying to locate perturbation's position remains as a barely addressed study. In this work, a system able to classify perturbations according to the place they have been caused along a multimode optical fiber has been designed. As proof of concept, a multimode optical fiber has been perturbated in different points, recording the videos of the perturbations in the speckle pattern, processing these videos, training with them a machine learning algorithm, and classifying further perturbations based on the spatial locations they were generated. The results show classifications up to 99% when the system has to categorize among three different locations lowering to 71% when the locations rise to ten. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This paper describe the surface analysis based on the fringe projection technique. The grating of fringes is illuminated with plastic optical fiber multimode on a surface under test of the order of the cm2. This technique can be used to analyze the deformations of surfaces or errors of manufacture of objects when the projected fringes are compared with the original patterns generated by a computer program. The theoretical approach of the system has been made by means of the analysis of techniques of Moiré, being developed a method for the obtaining of parameters such as angles, phases and not known distances of the objects or surface under analysis. Continuous patient monitoring has achieved high relevancy both in hospital and in residential environments. Previous works have presented a noncontact, robust and easy device for the monitorization of heart rate (HR) and respiration rate (RR) for patients lying in bed based on a specklegram induced in a Plastic Optical Fiber. This work present a comparative of different fiber optical cores diameter, which defines the speckle signal.
