In this work, ZnO thin film is prepared by spraying a solution of zinc acetate precursor prepared with different solvents, namely, methanol, ethanol and distilled water at optimized conditions for aluminum substrate temperature and solution concentration. The impact of different solvents on the structural and hydrophobic properties of ZnO thin films was investigated by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope and a Profilometer-Roughness Tester. The morphology of the elaborated ZnO thin films is spherical shaped nanostructured decorated by textures such as bumps (coexistence of ZnO micro-nanostructures). The results confirm that the different solvents used to prepare the ZnO thin films have a significant impact on the characteristics of these layers and the wettability study reveals that the surface of ZnO thin film prepared with distilled water is superhydrophobic.

Transition metal oxides (such as Co3O4 and Mn3O4) have become a focal point of battery material research due to their high specific capacity. Previous studies have shown that transition metal chlorides can be used to prepare metal oxides (TMOs) through electroconversion in aqueous solutions. However, in industry, TMOs are typically prepared by thermally decomposing metal hydroxides or carbonates (TMCs) precursors. TMCs, in particular, are lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) anode materials with high specific capacity and initial Coulombic efficiency. In this paper, we aim to further investigate the electroconversion process by introducing CO2 directly into the catholyte. Our goal is to determine whether CO2 can be converted into TMCs without the need for a surfactant. Through our research, we successfully obtained monodisperse cubic particles of MnCO3 with regular shapes and edges measuring approximately 300 nm. As an anode material for LIBs, MnCO3 exhibits a higher capacity than graphite and demonstrates good capacity retention. Additionally, the use of submicron MnCO3 as an anode material could potentially replace other more toxic and expensive options currently utilized in commercial LIBs products. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Salmonella enterica serovar Indiana (S. Indiana) is among the most prevalent serovars of Salmonella and is closely associated with foodborne diseases worldwide. In this study, we combined a recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) technique with clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat (CRISPR) and CRISPR-associated (Cas) protein Cas12b (CRISPR/Cas12b)-based biosensing in a one-pot platform to develop a novel one-step identification method for S. Indiana infection diagnosis. The entire RPA-CRISPR/Cas12b reaction can be completed at 41 °C within 1 h without the need for specific instruments. The optimal concentrations of Cas12b and single-guide RNA (sgRNA) for the reaction were the same at 250 nM. The single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) reporter 8C-FQ (5′-/6-FAM/CCCCCCCC/BHQ1/-3′) presented the best performance in the reaction compared with the other reporters. The limit of detection (LoD) of the RPA-CRISPR/Cas12b assay was 14.4 copies per reaction. As for specificity, we successfully identified four S. Indiana strains among twenty-two Salmonella strains without any false-positive results, presenting 100% accuracy for S. Indiana, and no cross-reactions were observed in eight other pathogens. Moreover, a total of 109 chicken carcasses were classified by the S. Indiana RPA-CRISPR assay and PCR methods from three processing points, including 43 post-shedding, 35 post-evisceration, and 31 post-chilling. There were 17 S. Indiana-positive samples identified during the whole processing step, consisting of nine post-shedding, five post-evisceration, and three post-chilling. The corresponding S. Indiana-positive rates of post-shedding, post-evisceration, and post-chilling were 20.93% (9/43), 14.29% (5/35), and 9.68% (3/31), respectively. Results from the S. Indiana one-step RPA-CRISPR/Cas12b assay were totally in agreement with those obtained using a traditional culture method, demonstrating 100% agreement with no false-positive or false-negative results observed. Viruses have proved instrumental to elucidating neuronal connectivity relationships in a variety of organisms. Recent advances in genetic technologies have facilitated analysis of neurons directly connected to a defined starter population. These advances have also made viral transneuronal mapping available to the broader neuroscience community, where one-step rabies virus mapping has become routine. This method is commonly used to identify inputs onto defined cell populations, to demonstrate the quantitative proportion of inputs coming from specific brain regions, or to compare input patterns between two or more cell populations. Furthermore, the number of inputs labeled is often assumed to reflect the number of synaptic connections, and these viruses are commonly believed to label strong synapses more efficiently than weak synapses. While these maps are often interpreted to provide a quantitative estimate of the synaptic landscape onto starter cell populations, in fact very little is known about how transneuronal transmission takes place. We do not know how these viruses transmit between neurons, if they display biases in the cell types labeled, or even if transmission is synapse-specific. In this review, we discuss the experimental evidence against or in support of key concepts in viral tracing, focusing mostly on the use of one-step rabies input mapping and related methods. Does spread of these viruses occur specifically through synaptic connections, preferentially through synapses, or non-specifically? How efficient is viral transneuronal transmission, and is this efficiency equal in all cell types? And lastly, to what extent does viral labeling reflect functional connectivity?

Purpose: To assess the efficacy and safety of bone-anchored dental implant placement at the same time as orbital exenteration compared with delayed implant placement. Materials and Methods: A retrospective comparative study was conducted in a single tertiary care center between December 2003 and December 2017. Patients who underwent bone-anchored implant placement at the same time as orbital exenteration were included (group 1) and compared with patients who underwent delayed implant placement (group 2). The main outcome was the 1-year success rate of implant osseointegration. The secondary outcomes were the 5-year success rate of osseointegration, postoperative complications, and time between orbital exenteration and prosthesis placement. Results: Ten and 11 patients (21 and 22 implants) with a mean follow-up of 50.2 and 48.5 months were included in groups 1 and 2, respectively. Patients in group 1 were significantly older (69.7 vs 61.2 years, P = .026). No significant differences were found between both groups regarding tumor type and location, prior treatments, smoking status, and postoperative radiation beam radiotherapy. The 1- and 5-year success rates of osseointegration were 95.5% and 93.3% in group 1, and 100% and 100% in group 2, respectively (P = .488 and P = .450 between both groups). One implant did not osseointegrate in group 1 due to osteitis. Ethmoidal fistula was the most common postoperative complication found in both groups (P = .670). The mean time between orbital exenteration and episthesis placement was 8 (3 to 14) vs 11 (3 to 15) months in groups 1 and 2, respectively (P = .467). Conclusion: Placing implants at the same time as orbital exenteration is a viable procedure. It reduces surgical morbidity and allows placement of implants in a nonirradiated area. In this study, the hollow and highly flexible polydimethylsiloxane microneedles were fabricated in a one step and simple design. For this purpose, a commercial dermastamping device (Dermastamp® 140 DRS) was used as a mold to obtain highly flexible PDMS microneedles containing channels. With the proposed design, microneedles with a total height of 1500 μm, 1500 μm center-to-center spacing and 150 μm channel diameter was successfully fabricated. These data are all compatible with the dimensions and the geometry of the mold used. Then, a syringe adapter was fabricated with a 3D printer and combined with the hollow PDMS microneedle patch for the high-throughput production of alginate beads. After the adapter and the hollow PDMS microneedle patch combination was placed into the syringe pump, the mostly spherical alginate beads with a mean diameter of 2.0 ± 0.3 mm was produced. To sum up, the proposed design and fabrication scheme first offer a novel and simple strategy for the fabrication of hollow polymeric microneedles. Moreover, this system has the potential to be used not only for the high-throughput microfluidic fabrication of polymeric beads, but also in controlled drug delivery systems and cell encapsulation studies.

The synthesis of spiroketals has gained attention because of their importance in chemical and biological reactions. Yet, the mechanistic investigation of mild acid‐catalyzed spiroketalization remains elusive and less explored in the literature and speculated that such transformations may proceed through the oxocarbenium ion intermediate; however, the existence of such species in mild acid‐catalyzed spiroketalization is not documented. The computational study has been performed at M06‐2X/6‐31+G(d) level to examine the kinetically controlled product formation for such reactions and the intrinsic reaction coordinates of 1 d suggest that the reaction proceeds via a "one‐step, two‐stage" mechanism with the formation of transient oxocarbenium as a "hidden intermediate" in the reaction. This study reveals that stereoelectronic interactions devoid the formation of stable oxocarbenium ion intermediate after the proton transfer transition state in the mild acid catalyzed spiroketalization process. IntroductionSpinal dumbbell-shaped tumors are rare, usually benign tumors with intraspinal and paravertebral components connected through intervertebral foramen. Complete excision is often performed through traditional open surgery (TOS). The efficacy and long-term outcomes of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) have not been reported to date in resection of dumbbell-shaped spinal tumors.PurposeThe purpose was to evaluate the efficacy and long-term outcomes of minimally invasive resection combined with unilateral transforaminal intervertebral fusion (TIF) through comparing with TOS in the treatment of spinal dumbbell-shaped tumors.MethodsFifteen patients underwent MIS and 18 patients underwent TOS. Thoracic dumbbell-shaped tumors were directly exposed after removal of costotransverse joints, adjacent rib components, unilateral hemilamina, and facet joints. Lumbar dumbbell-shaped tumors were completely exposed after removal of transverse processes, unilateral hemilamina, and facet joints. Whether for minimally invasive resection or traditional open removal, dumbbell-shaped tumors were completely excised and unilateral TIF was performed to guarantee spinal stability. In the context of weight reduction for new car design, it is essential to downsize, or rather optimize, the Body In White (BIW) structure. A very effective approach is to take into account the influence of Manufacturing process in the performance analysis such as crash or fatigue. Further, integrating the interaction between Stamping and Crash performance should also improve the predictability of the CAE approach and lead to more efficient design. One-step simulation of sheet metal forming is a very promising technology for this application, as it can be used on the same mesh as crash analysis and can work with a simplified dieface. However, a Dieface, although simplified, must be generated for nearly all parts of the vehicle model. Hence, the implementation of product-process coupling on an industrial scale requires the development of methodologies for automatic dieface design imbedding sheet metal forming expertise. Dieface generation depends on the geometrical features of the part, but we understand the latter only if we have a framework in terms of dieface features. The authors show that such a development requires an innovative approach to stamped part classification, based both on the geometrical features of the part and on the possible strategies in dieface development. Beside its novelty, this classification has the advantage of using a decision tree based only on a vector of quantitative features, thus making it possible to implement it in automatic decision support software. This paper proposes a one-step forecasting method based on the LS+AR prediction model that calculates LS and AR model parameters simultaneously. The EOPs products released by the IERS were used as primary data to predict changes in LOD parameters over spans of 1–500 days for 1230 experiments. The experimental results showed that the proposed method has an obvious improvement in long-term LOD parameters prediction accuracy compared with the LS+AR mode. Background: Facial fat grafting for rejuvenation is one of the most popular facial aesthetic procedures in plastic surgery. It is always challenging and since there are a lot of techniques for adipose tissue (AT) harvesting, there are no standard procedures that guarantee natural and long-lasting results. We developed the selective tissue engineering photo stimulation technique (One STEP™) in which we used a novel infrared 1210-nm wavelength laser diode for fat preserved harvesting and direct fat injection that we named PicoGraft™, with no fat manipulation. Methods: This is a retrospective descriptive study in which we included all senior author's patients that got facial fat grafting using the One STEP™ technique. We compared the AT aspirated, after laser emission (STEP-PicoGraft) and the standard assisted liposuction samples (SAL) in cultures. We study the mitochondrial activity of the ASC between STEP and SAL in fresh samples and after 24 h. The evaluation of the results included subjective changes regarding wrinkles, grooves, palpebral bags, hyperchromic spots, and fat hypotrophy of our patients. Results: Between July 2013 and May 2018, a total of 245 patients underwent facial fat grafting using this novel technique. We observed adipocytes preserved after STEP harvesting comparing morphologic changes in SAL samples with a high concentration of inflammatory particles in cultures. ASC mitochondrial activity shows an important difference of more than 7 times in STEP samples in fresh analysis that increase 12 times in 24 h. The subjective results show a good improvement in the periorbital area. The changes on the skin and subcutaneous tissue are seen from the second month and continue to improve up to 12 months. Conclusions: Facial fat grafting using the PicoGraft™ obtained by One STEP™ technique gives excellent volumetric and regenerative results in a single treatment without volumetric hypercorrection, and it is a good alternative for facial rejuvenation. The fat graft obtained with this novel technique is homogenous, without lumps, and has high concentration of viable stimulated ADSC and a high number of viable adipocytes. In this study, micro/nanoscale LiFePO4/graphene composites are synthesized successfully using a one-step microwave heating method. One-step microwave heating can simplify the reduction step of graphene oxide and provide a convenient, economical, and effective method of preparing graphene composites. The structural analysis shows that LiFePO4/graphene has high phase purity and crystallinity. The morphological analysis shows that LiFePO4/graphene microspheres and micron blocks are composed of densely aggregated nanoparticles; the nanoparticle size can shorten the diffusion path of lithium ions and thus increase the lithium-ion diffusion rate. Additionally, the graphene sheets can provide a rapid transport path for electrons, thus increasing the electronic conductivity of the material. Furthermore, the nanoparticles being packed into the micron graphene sheets can ensure stability in the electrolyte during charging and discharging. Raman analysis reveals that the graphene has a high degree of graphitization. Electrochemical analysis shows that the LiFePO4/graphene has an excellent capacity, high rate performance, and cycle stability. The discharge capacities are 166.3, 156.1, 143.0, 132.4, and 120.9 mAh g−1 at rates of 0.1, 1, 3, 5, and 10 C, respectively. The superior electrochemical performance can be ascribed to the synergy of the shorter lithium-ion diffusion path achieved by LiFePO4 nanoparticles and the conductive networks of graphene.

A naive one‐pot strategy developed to prepare high‐performance trinary based material as an energy storage material for supercapacitor. Herein, we have systematically studied and established an effortless and proficient synthetic method to formulate reduced graphene oxide (rGO)/polyaniline (PANI)/manganese dioxide (MnO2) (RPM) trinary material in one‐step without any additional oxidizing/polymerizing agent and acidic condition. The approach of "one arrow two targets" have employed to synthesize trinary based nanocomposite. For the first time, we have synthesized this trinary material in one step. Initially, in‐situ synthesized carbonic acid was consumed as a reducing agent to reduce the graphene oxide (GO) as well as it provided acidic condition for the formation of MnO2 and polymerization of aniline. Secondarily, MnO2 particles synthesized from KMnO4 precursor, which acted as an oxidizing agent to polymerize aniline in the presence of carbonic acid. The material reflected the electrical double layer capacitance as well as pseudocapacitance of RGO and PANI/MnO2. The material exhibited the maximum specific capacitance, 592 F/g at 1 A/g current density corresponds to excessive specific energy and specific power 66.6 Wh/kg, 1800 W/kg, respectively. This familiar route of direct production of graphene with the synergism of PANI‐MnO2 on carbon can be useful for large‐scale fabrication of nano‐carbon material for diverse applications including energy storage application. Recent developments in the law of contract have led to a renewed interest in the concept of negotiating damages. The Supreme Court in Morris-Garner v One Step held that such damages may be awarded for breach of contract where the loss can be assessed appropriately by reference to the economic value of the right infringed. Such a right is considered a valuable asset of which the claimant is deprived by reason of the defendant's breach. The effect of compounding process applying two methods of one and two step mixing on the properties of nanocomposite is investigated. Nanocomposites were produced using polypropylene, cellulosic fibers, MAPP and nanolay as reinforcement. 1.5 and 3% MAPP and 0,2, and 4% nanoclay were used as the variable factor and 20% fibers was used. Melt flow index was measured on compounds produced using one or two steps mixing. Either compounds were mixed with fibers and MAPP and then the test specimens were made and tested according to ASTM test procedures. The results revealed that the two steps mixing increased the mechanical properties. The melt flow index of one step mixing was lower and the melt flow index of initial mixing of polypropylene with nanoclay was very high and it was reduced after compounding with fibers and MAPP. The results revealed that at higher dosages of the nanoclay tensile and bending modulus of the composite increased and tensile strength and modulus of rupture decreased.

In this study, protonic acid and iodine-doped conductive polyaniline (PANI) nanofibers were successfully fabricated in one step using ammonium persulfate (APS) and potassium biiodate (KH(IO3)2) as the co-oxidant. The resultant PANI nanofibers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, wide-angle X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Their electrochemical properties were examined by cyclic voltammetry and the standard four-probe technique. Additionally, the molecular weight of the conductive PANI nanofibers was measured using a viscometer. It is found that the PANI nanofibers are codoped with protonic acid (hydrochloric acid and iodic acid) and iodine (I3− and I5−), and the KH(IO3)2 shows a significant acceleration effect for the oxidation polymerization of aniline. The conductivity of PANI reaches 21 S·cm−1, which is much higher than that of another PANI prepared by APS. This is ascribed to the iodine-doping effect and the nanofibers' morphology. Additionally, the reaction mechanism of PANI is systematically discussed, and the codoped mechanism is proposed. Systematic investigations indicate that APS/KH(IO3)2 is an excellent co-oxidant for the preparation of highly conductive PANI nanofibers in one step. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract In this work, CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 is coated on meso-porous TiO 2 films via one step method (OSM) and hot casting technique (HCT). The optical properties of the solution-processed organic inorganic halide perovskite layers deposited on meso-structured TiO 2 scaffolds are investigated using UV–Vis reflectance and transmittance spectroscopies at the wavelength range of 400–900 nm. Optical parameters including refractive index, extinction coefficient, real and imaginary parts of the dielectric constants, optical conductivity and direct and indirect optical band gaps are calculated and compared for the perovskite films created by above mentioned methods. Optical band gaps are determined from the absorption coefficient values using Tauc's power law. The obtained values of direct band gap for two perovskite films are close to each other (1.56 and 1.58 eV for perovskite layer deposited by OSM and HCT respectively). For both prepared films, the difference between direct and indirect band gaps is 60 meV which is in very good agreement with that reported in literature. In addition to the difference between the perovskite morphology, the optical absorption of perovskite layers created by the HCT is less than that of layers prepared by OSM and therefore the amount of generated photo current is less. This is the main reason that causes the efficiency of perovskite solar cells prepared by HCT (3.0%) is ~38% less than that of cells created by OSM (4.15%). In addition, the as-fabricated superhydrophobic surfaces possess extremely low surface adhesive force and excellent self-cleaning ability. Preparing dense organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite film is hindered by the extremely low solubility of lead(II) iodide (PbI 2 ) at one-step coating process using one-solution (PbI 2 + CH 3 NH 3 I + DMF). Thus, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) has been widely used to enhance the solubility through the formation of adducts. However, the required mixture of DMSO and DMF cannot be simultaneously evaporated at low temperatures, owing to the different boiling points, which are influenced by the surface morphology. Consequently, this also affects the solar energy conversion efficiency of the perovskite solar cells. In this study, we develop a new approach for controlling the evaporation of DMF and DMSO by dip-coating ether on the top of the prepared thin film composed of PbI 2 , methylammonium iodide (MAI), DMF, and DMSO. Interestingly, it reveals that ether acted as an agent for simultaneous evaporation at similar temperatures, which then allows it to control surface morphology, and achieve dense perovskite. The fabricated inverted-perovskite PbI 2 thin film solar cell shows that the efficiency reached up to 16.3% with high reproducibility. A strand exchange amplification (SEA) method to detect foodborne pathogen Listeria monocytogenes was developed. SEA is a novel nucleic acid amplification method that only requires one pair of primers. The specie-specific primers were designed by targeting the 16S rRNA gene and the amplification reaction was performed as short as 60 min at 61 °C. Notably, SEA method could not only detect genomic DNA but also detect RNA by one step without requiring extra reverse transcription. The result could be visualized by naked eyes so that water bath pot would be the only equipment needed. Moreover, culture fluids and bacteria colony could be successfully detected without any pretreatment and the method displayed good specificity and strong anti-jamming capacity. These features greatly simplified the operating procedure and made SEA method be potential for developing point-of-care testing (POCT) devices to detect viable L. monocytogenes. In this work, a facile one-step hydrothermal method was developed to fabricate three types different of nanomaterials: the two-dimension (2D) of MoS 2 nanosheets; 3D spherical CuS nanoparticles; and 3D flower-like heterostructure of MoS 2 /CuS nanohybrid , respectively. The as-synthesized MoS 2 , CuS and MoS 2 /CuS were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) etc. The morphology of the MoS 2 /CuS nanohybrid is different from the MoS 2 nanosheets and CuS nanoparticles. The hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity of MoS 2 nanosheets, CuS nanoparticles and MoS 2 /CuS nanohybrid, were investigated by the Linear Sweep Voltammetry (LSV) and Tafel slope. The HER activity of MoS 2 /CuS nanohybrid is better than those of MoS 2 nanosheets and CuS nanoparticles, which can be attributed to the good electron-transport ability of CuS and the strong reduction ability of hydrogen ions by MoS 2 . Thus, MoS 2 /CuS nanohybrid exhibited excellent activity for HER with a small onset potential of 0.15 V, a low Tafel slope of 63 mV dec −1 , and relatively good stability. However, the MoS 2 nanosheets and CuS nanoparticles respectively shows a bigger onset potential of 0.25 V and 0.35 V, a higher Tafel slope of 165 and 185 mV dec −1 . Due to the existence of water, it is still a challenge to conduct chemical modification on cellulose nanofiber (CNF) hydrogels with active double bonds. A simple one-pot and one-step method for constructing "living" CNF hydrogel with double bond was created at room temperature. The chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of methacryloyl chloride (MACl) was used to introduce physical-trapped, chemical-anchored and functional double bonds into TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofiber (TOCN) hydrogels. TOCN hydrogel could be fabricated within just 0.5 h, the minimum dosage of MACl could be reduced to 3.22 mg/g (MACl/TOCN hydrogel). Furthermore, the CVD methods showed high efficiency for mass production and recyclability. Moreover, the chemical "living" reactivity of the introduced double bonds were verified by the freezing and UV crosslinking, radical polymerization and thiol-ene click reaction. Abstract: Heterocycles with tetrahydroisoquinolines moiety are important biologically, and α‐aminophosphonates derivatives have unusual features in agrochemicals and medicines. In this paper, we combined these two parts to afford α‐aminophosphonates tetrahydroisoquinolines. A highly facile, one step direct carbon‐phosphor bond formation and N‐alkylation of tetrahydroisoquinolines was developed. It is a three‐component reaction of Nitrogen‐unprotected tetrahydroisoquinolines, aldehydes and trialkyl phosphites, which provides C1‐phosphonylated and N‐alkylation of THIQs (Tetrahydroisoquinolines) with moderate to high yields. The mild reaction conditions were investigated to give a broad range of substrates. Under the optimized reaction condition at reaction temperature 120 oC, after heating 8 h the desired final product was given in 90% yield, which is a satisfied reaction result. Lithium sulfur (Li-S) batteries possess high theoretical specific capacity (1675 mAh g −1 ) and energy density (2567 Wh kg −1 ), but are plagued by their poor rate performance. The discovery of new carbon sources, design of novel porous carbon structures, and effective hetero-atom doping of the sulfur matrix are key to overcome this dilemma. In this paper, a boron-doped porous carbon material with a termite nest shape (TNPBC) was obtained from a new carbon source, polyaspartic acid, and borax. Importantly, the doping, activation, and pyrolysis were integrated into one step through a low cost and simple methodology. The borax was essential to formation of a high surface porous architecture and provided boron dopants, which, combined with polyaspartic acid, achieves co -doping (B and N) carbon materials with special porous structures. The simultaneous pore-formation and doping leave an abundance of hetero-atoms exposed on the surface of pores, which enhances the electrostatic interactions between the hetero-atoms and the charged species in the batteries. As a result, the S/TNPBC cathode maintains a stable capacity of 703 mAh g −1 with an excellent Coulombic efficiency of 101.3% after 120 cycles at 0.1C. Moreover, it exhibits an excellent rate capability with an initial capacity of 650 mAh g −1 at 0.5C and sustains a capacity of 500 mAh g −1 after 100 cycles. Furthermore, when TNPBC is used as the anode in a sodium ion battery, an excellent rate capability is achieved. The specific charge capacity is three times greater than without boron doping at 500 mA g −1 . Due to the simple fabrication process and desirable properties of this novel architecture, TNPBC provides a new strategy for enhancing the performance of commercial energy storage devices. Pogostone, isolated fromPogostemon cablin, has many biological activities such as potential antibacterial, anticandida, and antifungal. Traditional extraction leads to low output of PO about 17.6 mg/kg from Herba Pogostemonis. The previous literature had reported a synthetic study and the yield had reached 4.48% with strictly controlled reaction conditions. The two methods above cannot meet the large demand of PO; we report a new synthesis method. 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-2-pyrone (1) was added in toluene, with the existence of acylation catalyst 4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP), 4-methylvaleric acid (2), and condensing agent dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC), PO was synthesized after the combination of 3-carbon of (1) with 1-OH of (2) in the acylation reaction. The purity had reached 98%, determined by HPLC. The structure was confirmed by spectroscopic methods including infrared, electron ionization mass spectrometry, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Salmonella enterica serovar Pullorum/Gallinarum is an important infectious pathogen that has caused widespread problems for chicken industry. Traditional Salmonella serotyping is an expensive and time-consuming process. In this study, we developed a rapid one-step PCR method to identify S. Pullorum/Gallinarum. The PCR-based assay focuses on flhB, which shows a deficient region only in S. Pullorum/Gallinarum, compared with that of other serovars. The specificity and sensitivity of the PCR system were evaluated. The developed PCR method could identify S. Pullorum/Gallinarum from 27 different Salmonella serovars and eight non-Salmonella pathogens. The minimum limit of DNA and the lowest number of cells of S. Pullorum for the PCR detection were no less than 5.85 pg/μL and 10 CFU, respectively. The method was applied to the analysis of Salmonella strains isolated from the chicken farm. The PCR-based testing results of the farm isolates were in concordance with those obtained using traditional serotyping method. This newly developed PCR-based system could be used to accurately screen for the presence of S. Pullorum/Gallinarum, and support traditional serotyping methods, especially in high-throughput screening situations.

Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) possess large specific surface areas, tunable composition, uniform metal active sites, and open framework structures, showing significant perspective in solar-to-chemical energy conversion. As we already know, Co-based ZIF-67 dodecahedron can be converted to functional Co 3 O 4 and CoP frameworks through annealing means in air or an inert atmosphere. Interestingly, ZIF-67-derived Co 3 O 4 is a typical p-type semiconductor but CoP is an n -type semiconductor. Here, a facile strategy is carried out to evolve polyhedral ZIF-67 with poor photocatalytic reaction toward designable complex architectures for efficient solar-driven water splitting. Specifically, one-step construction of complex functional Co 3 O 4 @CoP architecture was successfully implemented firstly in this work, that is, ZIF-67 polyhedrons were transformed into all-in-one Co 3 O 4 @CoP frameworks possessing the co-arranging of Co 3 O 4 with CoP species in space, demonstrating the state-of-the-art green processes to construct designable complex architecture based on MOFs. More importantly, the ZIF-67-derived Co 3 O 4 @CoP photocatalyst exhibits more excellent photocatalytic water splitting performance in comparison with ZIF-67-derived CoP and Co 3 O 4 as well as previous-best catalysts under identical conditions because of multi-action mechanism synergy. Introduction: Ankle osteoarthritis (OA) is a challenging pathology, often requiring surgical treatments. In young patients, joint sparing, biologic procedures would be desirable. Recently, a few reports have described the efficacy of bone marrow stem cells in OA. Considering the good outcomes of one-step bone marrow derived cells transplantation (BMDCT) for osteochondral lesions of the talus (OLT), we applied this procedure for OLT in concomitant ankle OA.Materials and Methods: 56 patients, with a mean age of 35.6 years (range 16–50), who suffered from OLT and ankle OA, were treated using BMDCT. All patients were clinically checked using AOFAS score, in the pre-operative setting until the final follow-up of 36 months. Weight-bearing radiographs and MRI evaluation using Mocart score were performed, preoperatively and postoperatively.Results: The whole clinical outcome had a remarkable improvement at 12 months, a further amelioration at 24 months and a lowering trend at 36 months (77.8 ± 18.3). Early OA had better outcomes. 16 patients required another treatment and they were considered failures. Clinical outcome significantly correlates with OA degree, BMI, associate procedures. Radiographs were in line with clinical results. MRI evaluation showed signs of osteochondral repair.Conclusions: BMDCT showed encouraging clinical and radiological outcomes at short-term follow-up. This procedure should be applied in young and selected patients, excluding severe ankle degeneration, where the results are critical. Numerical examples are, also, considered, which proved that these methods are in competition with the best methods now exist.

Abstract: A facile pillaring method for Al-pillared montmorillonite (Al-pillared-MMT) has been established by the in situ formation polyoxocation [Al13O4(OH)24(H2O)12 7+] in the interlayer of montmorillonite (MMT). The result of X-ray diffraction (XRD) showed that the pillaring effect was consistent with that of the traditional method namely, the basal spacing was up to 18.8Å. PEG400 in the synthesis system played a part of a layer extending agent which could promote the forming of Al13 7+ in the layer of MMT. The nitrogen adsorption–desorption measurement exhibited that the pore size and BET surface area of pillared montmorillonite(MMT) via an in situ way were 3.5–5nm and 181m2/g, respectively. The BET surface area was larger than the conventional pillared MMT and the pore size was nearly the same with traditional methods. The process of synthesis Al13 7+ and pillaring MMT were completed in one step in this method, which was a facile and effective method for preparing pillared MMT. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

A 2-year randomized, controlled prospective study evaluated the clinical effectiveness of a one-step self-etch adhesive and a 'gold-standard' three-step etch-and-rinse adhesive in non-carious Class-V lesions. The null hypothesis tested was that the one-step self-etch adhesive does perform clinically equally well as the three-step etch-and-rinse adhesive. A total of 161 lesions in 26 patients were restored with Clearfil AP-X (Kuraray). The restorations were bonded either with the 'all-in-one' adhesive Clearfil S3 Bond (Kuraray) or with the three-step etch-and-rinse adhesive Optibond FL (Kerr). The restorations were evaluated at baseline and after 6 months, 1 and 2 years, regarding their retention, marginal adapation, marginal discoloration, caries occurrence, preservation of tooth vitality and post-operative sensivity. Retention loss, severe marginal defects and/or discoloration that needed intervention (repair or replacement) and the occurrence of caries were considered as clinical failures. The recall rate at 2 years was 93.8%. Only one Clearfil S3 Bond restoration was lost at the 2-year recall. All other restorations were clinically acceptable. The number of restorations with defect-free margins decreased severely during the 2-year study period (to 6.7% and 25.3% for Clearfil S3 Bond and Optibond FL, respectively). The Clearfil S3 Bond restorations presented significantly more small marginal defects at the enamel side than the Optibond FL restorations (Clearfil S3 Bond: 93.3%; Optibond FL: 73.3%; p = 0.000). Superficial marginal discoloration increased in both groups (to 53.3% and 36% for Clearfil S3 Bond and Optibond FL, respectively) and was also more pronounced in the Clearfil S3 Bond group ( p = 0.007). After 2 years, the simplified one-step self-etch adhesive Clearfil S3 Bond and the three-step etch-and-rinse adhesive Optibond FL were clinically equally successful, even though both adhesives were characterized by progressive degradation in marginal integrity. This paper deals with the analysis and design of tube hydroforming parameters in order to reduce defects which may occur at the end of the forming process, such as necking and wrinkling. We propose a specific methodology based on the coupling between an enhanced one-step method for the rapid simulation of tube hydroforming process and a surrogate model based on a metamodeling technique. The basic formulation of the one-step method has been modified and adapted for the modeling of 3D tube hydroforming problems in which the initial geometry is a circular tube expanded by internal pressure and submitted to axial feeding. In the surrogate model, approximate responses are built using moving least squares method and constructed within a moving region of interest which moves across a predefined discrete grid of authorized experimental designs. Two applications of tube hydroforming of aluminum alloy 6061-T6 have been utilized to validate our methodology. One-step oxidative desulfurization of dibenzothiophene (DBT) using cyclohexanone peroxide (CYHPO) was performed in the presence of N-alkyl-imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs). CYHPO is an oil-soluble oxidant and ILs are employed as extractants. The effect of the ILs, the molar ratio of CYHPO/S (O/S), volume ratio (VIL/Vmodel oil), reaction time (T), and reaction temperature (t) were investigated in detail. The results showed that the desulfurization ability of the ILs followed the order [OMim]BF4 > [HMim]BF4 > [BMim]BF4, reversing the length of the alkyl group to the imidazolium ring. When IL [OMim]BF4 was used, O/S was 2 and VIL/Vmodel oil was 1:1, and 93.5% of DBT in the model oil was removed at 40°C for 30 min. Abstract: CeO2 nanosheets with (110) dominated surface were synthesized for the first time by a facile one-step hydrothermal method without the assistance of any surfactant or template. The role of NH3·H2O on tailoring the morphology of CeO2 nanocrystals was investigated. It was found the NH3·H2O not only serves as the precipitant, but also acts as structural direction agent in the formation of (110)-dominated CeO2 nanosheets. Raman and XRD spectra showed that the sample has a cubic fluorite structure. Compared with bulk CeO2 materials, the prepared CeO2 nanosheets exhibit an obvious blue-shift in UV absorbance. The increase of the direct band gap energy of the obtained sample exceeds 8%. This method provides an environmentally friendly way for preparing CeO2 nanostructures and tailoring their morphology. Moreover, the organic-chelated heavy metals formed by common organic ligands and free heavy metals can cause many problems and concerns because of their poor biodegradability, high solubility, and extreme stability. In this study, aluminum-containing ferrihydrite (Fh-Al) adsorbents of different composition molar ratios were prepared and utilized to remove typical EDTA-Cr(III) in an aqueous system, and the associated removal mechanism was examined. The experimental results show that adding Al not only enhances the removal rate of EDTA-Cr(III) by the Fh-Al adsorbent in a wide pH range (pH = 3–9) but also increases the maximum adsorption capacity of EDTA-Cr(III). In addition, the specific surface area of Fh-Al can be increased by adding aluminum with different molar ratios, thus promoting its adsorption performance for EDTA-Cr(III). Furthermore, surface complexation and electrostatic attraction were proposed as possible mechanisms of EDTA-Cr(III) adsorption by Fh-Al. This study shows that Fh-Al-6 adsorbent can adsorb common EDTA-chelated heavy metals (such as EDTA-Pb, EDTA-Cr, EDTA-Cu and EDTA-Cd) in one step, with maximum adsorption capacities of 41.47, 32.33, 16.51 and 31.27 mg/g at pH = 3. Abstract: Adsorption removal of 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) from aqueous solutions by bentonite/CTAB was studied using two ways: the first one using organophilic bentonite as adsorbent. This material was prepared by exchanging the organic cations as cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) for sodium (Na+) on the layer surface of clay (two steps method). The second way was using bentonite as adsorbent, which is in contact with simultaneous 2,4-dichlorophenol and CTAB in solution (one-step method). This process of wastewater treatment is of interest for the stabilization of wastes in which simultaneous 2,4-DCP/surfactant contaminations occurs. This wastewater treatment was based on simultaneously synthesis of organophilic bentonite and removal of 2,4-dichlorophenol from water in one-step. Batch adsorption studies were conducted to evaluate the effect of various parameters such as the quaternary ammonium cation (CTAB) loading, contact time and initial 2,4-DCP concentration. Adsorption equilibrium reached earlier by one-step method than onto organophilic bentonite. The adsorption kinetics was tested for Elovich, intraparticle diffusion, pseudo-second-order, and pseudo-first-order reactions and rate constants of kinetic models were calculated. The equilibrium adsorption data were analysed by Freundlich, Langmuir, and Redlich–Peterson using non-linear regression technique. Freundlich isotherms best fitted the data for adsorption equilibrium for both methods. The experimental observations indicate that adsorption behaviour of 2,4-DCP is different in each case. Due to its organophilic nature, exchanged bentonite is able to adsorb 2,4-DCP at a very high extent (about 1.5mmol/g) when the 2,4-DCP is the only solute. In the case of simultaneous presence of 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide in solution, the adsorption capacity of 2,4-DCP strongly increases (about 2.5mmol/g). Abstract: Organic–inorganic polystyrene (PSt)–silica (SiO2) hybrid asymmetric particles were prepared in one step by a miniemulsion polymerization technique. The organic and inorganic reagents were confined in miniemulsion microreactor droplets. After the formation of PSt and SiO2, internal phase separation inside the droplets was accelerated owing to the hydrophobicity of PSt and the hydrophilicity of SiO2. Therefore, PSt–SiO2 hybrid asymmetric particles could be synthesized in one step. Between each pair of asymmetric particles, silane couplers act as bridges connecting the PSt and SiO2 particles. The size of PSt particles in these asymmetric particles was easily tuned either by changing the weight ratio of St/TEOS or by varying the sonication power during the miniemulsion preparation. After functionalization of the as-prepared asymmetric dimers by surface decoration with Ag particles, enhanced surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) properties were observed due to electromagnetic enhancement of the added Ag colloids.
