This article discusses the importance of trace elements as biomarkers for diabetes mellitus. Trace elements are micronutrients that represent a small percentage of body weight and are considered important for maintaining a healthy physiological state. Recent studies show that the imbalance of these elements is related to diabetes mellitus, such as zinc and chromium deficiency, which affects the synthesis, storage, and release of insulin. In addition, selenium is essential for the restoration of pancreatic islets damaged by diabetes. Copper is also related to microvascular complications in patients with diabetes. These elements can be used as health biomarkers in individuals with metabolic diseases. [Extracted from the article]
