Abstract

The article presents a study on the safety, effectiveness, and biliary penetration of ertapenem for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) prophylaxis. Patients with obstructive jaundice without cholangitis were given one gram of ertapenem intravenously before ERCP and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to measure biliary ertapenem levels. Results suggested that ertapenem appeared to be sage and effective in obstructive jaundice patients undergoing ERCP.
