Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the most common long-term respiratory conditions in older people globally, yet is still marked by an annual worldwide awareness-raising day – this year on 20 November. This lack of public awareness and the subsequent burden of the disease may be partly explained by the gradual onset of the disease.
