Professional nursing organizations represent an important channel for the nursing profession to influence health policy, represent and protect the interests of nurses, and advocate for the further development of the profession. Facing the rapidly increasing aging population and emerging needs of long-term care in Taiwan, the Taiwan Nurses Association launched an integrated project to propose policy advice on the development of nursing in long-term care. In this paper, the relevant findings in the domestic and foreign literature are summarized to better define the role function and core competence of long-term care nurses. In addition, the current tasks, perceived competence, and training needs of nurses working in long term care settings are presented, and the consensus on various advocacy strategies are summarized. The findings presented in this study may be referenced when developing evidence-based policy recommendations related to education, practice, legal / regulatory amendments, and professional organizations. Aim: The purposes of this study were to describe the degree of knowledge and explore the factors associated with knowledge of infertility among women of childbearing age with breast cancer. Methods: In this cross‐sectional study, we recruited women of childbearing age with a diagnosis of breast cancer who had completed chemotherapy at a hospital in Taipei from 2015 through 2016. Face‐to‐face interviews were completed with 201 (62%) of 324 eligible women, asking about sociodemographic variables, disease and treatment characteristics, fertility intention, and infertility‐related knowledge. Results: The result showed one in 10 women had thought about becoming pregnant after completion of breast cancer chemotherapy. The mean score of infertility knowledge among participants was low, especially for general knowledge. Women with higher levels of education had better knowledge scores. Fertility intention score, especially for the domain of the pregnant risk, was negatively associated with infertility knowledge score. Conclusion: Women with breast cancer lacked knowledge about infertility and underestimated the possibility of infertility. We suggest future patient education on infertility after cancer treatment and about reproductive technology in oncologic practice before treatment begins. Achieving enhanced healthcare quality by participating in cross-disciplinary medical teams and providing specialized, precision nursing are core professional values of clinical nurse specialists (CNSs). Although CNSs are crucial in the healthcare field, the development of CNSs in Taiwan remains in its infancy. The Taiwan Nurses Association has already announced regulations related to professional frameworks and scope of practice for advanced practice nurses and has reached a preliminary consensus and plans on the definition, qualifications, and indicators of care for CNSs. The clinical application, job titles, and certification of the professional core values of CNSs require continuous and joint deliberation and development by professional nurse organizations. In this study, the results of empirical research into professional organizational frameworks and certification of CNSs in Europe, the United States, and Australia were used to derive a reference model for CNS education and training development for advanced practice nurse specialties in Taiwan. Aim and objectives. The aim was to develop a practice theory that can be used to guide the direction of community nursing practice to help clients with schizophrenia and those who care for them. Design. Substantive grounded theory was developed through use of grounded theory method of Strauss and Corbin. Methods. Two groups of participants in Taiwan were selected using theoretical sampling: one group consisted of community mental health nurses and the other group was clients with schizophrenia and those who cared for them. The number of participants in each group was determined by theoretical saturation. Semi-structured one-to-one in-depth interviews and unstructured non-participant observation were utilized for data collection. Data analysis involved three stages: open, axial and selective coding. During the process of coding and analysis, both inductive and deductive thinking were utilized and the constant comparative analysis process continued until data saturation occurred. To establish trustworthiness, the four criteria of credibility, transferability, dependability and confirmability were followed along with field trial, audit trial, member check and peer debriefing for reliability and validity. Results. A substantive grounded theory, the role of community mental health nurses caring for people with schizophrenia in Taiwan, was developed through utilization of grounded theory method of Strauss and Corbin. Conclusion. In this paper, results and discussion focus on causal conditions, context, intervening conditions, consequences and phenomenon. Relevance to clinical practice. The theory is the first to contribute knowledge about the field of mental health home visiting services in Taiwan to provide guidance for the delivery of quality care to assist people in the community with schizophrenia and their carers. Purpose: To examine how robot‐enabled focus on professional task engagement and robot‐reduced nonprofessional task engagement are related to nurses' professional turnover intention. Design: We adopted a two‐wave study design. Methods: We collected the first wave of data in a large hospital in Taiwan during October and November 2019 and the second wave between December 2019 and February 2020. We used the data collected from 331 nurses who participated in both waves. Findings: We found that robot‐enabled focus on professional task engagement is positively related to nurses' overall job satisfaction and perceived health improvement. Robot‐reduced nonprofessional task engagement is positively related to nurses' perceived health improvement. Both overall job satisfaction and perceived health improvement are negatively related to nurses' professional turnover intention. Conclusions: Robots' ability to focus nurses' efforts in professional tasks may help improve nurses' health and overall job satisfaction, and by extension reduce their turnover intention. Clinical Relevance: Nurse managers could suggest hospitals introduce robots, particularly those that can share nurses' nonprofessional workload. The study was to compare the effects of two different educational interventions on knowledge and competence of nurses regarding conveying gastroscopy-related information to patients. Background. Nurses play an important role in helping patients undergo gastroscopy and must be familiar with the procedure to provide related patient education. Design. A quasi-experimental study. Methods. This study in 2010 involved a pre-test and two post-tests. The experimental group ( n = 25) received a multimedia CD-ROM, and the comparator group ( n = 40) received a pocket booklet. The effects of the two educational interventions were measured using the Knowledge Test Gastroscopy Nursing Instruction Scale, the Self-Evaluation Gastroscopy Nursing Instruction Scale, and the Gastroscopy Nursing Instruction Learning Satisfaction Scale. Results. No overall significant difference in knowledge scores between the two groups was found, but subsequent post hoc analysis showed significantly higher scores in the experimental group than in the comparator group at week 6. A significant within-subjects effect of the self-evaluation gastroscopy nursing instruction scores from baseline-week 6 was dependent on the experimental group or the comparator group. There were significant between-subjects effects overall, at week 3 and at week 6. Conclusion. Both educational interventions improved nurses' knowledge and competence in gastroscopy-related information. Aims and objectives. To explore the cross-level effects of the four dimensions of patient safety climate on nursing innovation. Background. Across the globe, nursing innovation is highly encouraged by nursing experts to improve nursing outcome. Nursing innovation, in turn, is affected by organisational climate, and a critical aspect of organisational climate is patient safety. Design. This is a cross-sectional study. Methods. We employed a questionnaire survey to collect data and selected nurses from Taiwan hospitals as samples. A total of 808 valid questionnaires in 172 teams of four hospitals were collected. Patient safety climate was aggregated by individual-level data; thus, we examined rwg, ICC 1 and ICC 2. Hierarchical linear modelling was used to analyse the data. Results. Of these three dimensions of nursing innovation, the level of knowledge creation was perceived by the nurses as the highest. In terms of patient safety climate, managerial practices regarding patient safety scored the highest, followed by patient safety procedures, patient safety information flow and patient safety priority. Only patient safety information flow yielded a significant positive influence on knowledge creation, innovation behaviour or innovation diffusion. Conclusion. Hospital nurses do achieve better performance in knowledge creation. Patient safety information flow has positive and cross-level impact on nursing innovation; therefore, the method to increase safety information flow is the key focus of nursing innovation management. Relevance to clinical practice. Through the improvements made in patient safety climate, hospital managers could promote the development of nursing innovation. Patient safety information flow is positively associated with nursing innovation. Patient safety information could be integrated in nursing training in all levels. Rules and procedures regarding patient safety should be drafted in simple and clear terms.
