Excited states of $^{129}$In populated following the $\beta$-decay of $^{129}$Cd were experimentally studied with the GRIFFIN spectrometer at the ISAC facility of TRIUMF, Canada. A 480-MeV proton beam was impinged on a uranium carbide target and $^{129}$Cd was extracted using the Ion Guide Laser Ion Source (IG-LIS). $\beta$- and $\gamma$-rays following the decay of $^{129}$Cd were detected with the GRIFFIN spectrometer comprising the plastic scintillator SCEPTAR and 16 high-purity germanium (HPGe) clover-type detectors. %, along with the $\beta$-particles were detected with SCEPTAR. From the $\beta$-$\gamma$-$\gamma$ coincidence analysis, 32 new transitions and 7 new excited states were established, expanding the previously known level scheme of $^{129}$In. The $\log ft$ values deduced from the $\beta$-feeding intensities suggest that some of the high-lying states were populated by the $\nu 0 g_{7/2} \rightarrow \pi 0 g_{9/2}$ allowed Gamow-Teller (GT) transition, which indicates that the allowed GT transition is more dominant in the $^{129}$Cd decay than previously reported. The astrophysical $s$-process is one of the two main processes forming elements heavier than iron. A key outstanding uncertainty surrounding $s$-process nucleosynthesis is the neutron flux generated by the ${}^{22}\mathrm{Ne}(\alpha, n){}^{25}\mathrm{Mg}$ reaction during the He-core and C-shell burning phases of massive stars. This reaction, as well as the competing ${}^{22}\mathrm{Ne}(\alpha, \gamma){}^{26}\mathrm{Mg}$ reaction, is not well constrained in the important temperature regime from ${\sim} 0.2$--$0.4$~GK, owing to uncertainties in the nuclear properties of resonances lying within the Gamow window. To address these uncertainties, we have performed a new measurement of the ${}^{22}\mathrm{Ne}({}^{6}\mathrm{Li}, d){}^{26}\mathrm{Mg}$ reaction in inverse kinematics, detecting the outgoing deuterons and ${}^{25,26}\mathrm{Mg}$ recoils in coincidence. We have established a new $n / \gamma$ decay branching ratio of $1.14(26)$ for the key $E_x = 11.32$ MeV resonance in $^{26}\mathrm{Mg}$, which results in a new $(\alpha, n)$ strength for this resonance of $42(11)~\mu$eV when combined with the well-established $(\alpha, \gamma)$ strength of this resonance. We have also determined new upper limits on the $\alpha$ partial widths of neutron-unbound resonances at $E_x = 11.112,$ $11.163$, $11.169$, and $11.171$ MeV. Monte-Carlo calculations of the stellar ${}^{22}\mathrm{Ne}(\alpha, n){}^{25}\mathrm{Mg}$ and ${}^{22}\mathrm{Ne}(\alpha, \gamma){}^{26}\mathrm{Mg}$ rates, which incorporate these results, indicate that both rates are substantially lower than previously thought in the temperature range from ${\sim} 0.2$--$0.4$~GK., Comment: 17 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. The exotic Borromean nucleus $^{20}$Mg with $N$ = 8, located at the proton drip-line provides a unique testing ground for nuclear forces and the evolution of shell structure in the neutron-deficient region. We report on the first observation of proton unbound resonances together with bound states in $^{20}$Mg from the $^{20}$Mg($d$,$d'$) reaction performed at TRIUMF. Phenomenological shell-model calculations offer a reasonable description. However, our experimental results present a challenge for current first-principles nuclear structure approaches and point to the need for improved chiral forces and {\it ab initio} calculations. Furthermore, the differential cross section of the first excited state is compared with distorted-wave Born approximation calculations to deduce a neutron quadrupole deformation parameter of $\beta_n$=0.46$\pm$0.21. This provides the first indication of a possible weakening of the $N$ = 8 shell closure at the proton drip-line., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

The low energy excited $0_{2,3}^+$ states in $^{96}$Sr are amongst the most prominent examples of shape coexistence across the nuclear landscape. In this work, the neutron $[2s_{1/2}]^2$ content of the $0_{1,2,3}^+$ states in $^{96}$Sr was determined by means of the d($^{95}$Sr,p) transfer reaction at the TRIUMF-ISAC2 facility using the SHARC and TIGRESS arrays. Spectroscopic factors of 0.19(3) and 0.22(3) were extracted for the $^{96}$Sr ground and 1229~keV $0^+$ states, respectively, by fitting the experimental angular distributions to DWBA reaction model calculations. A detailed analysis of the $\gamma$-decay of the isomeric $0_3^+$ state was used to determine a spectroscopic factor of 0.33(13). The experimental results are compared to shell model calculations, which predict negligible spectroscopic strength for the excited $0^+$ states in $^{96}$Sr. The strengths of the excited $0_{2,3}^+$ states were also analyzed within a two-level mixing model and are consistent with a mixing strength of $a^2$=0.40(14) and a difference in intrinsic deformations of $|\Delta \beta|=0.31(3)$. The $E0$ transition strength in the $2^+_2 \rightarrow 2^+_1$ transitions of $^{58,60,62}$Ni have been determined for the first time following a series of measurements at the Australian National University (ANU) and the University of Kentucky (UK). The CAESAR Compton-suppressed HPGe array and the Super-e solenoid at ANU were used to measure the $\delta(E2/M1)$ mixing ratio and internal conversion coefficient of each transition following inelastic proton scattering. Level half-lives, $\delta(E2/M1)$ mixing ratios and $\gamma$-ray branching ratios were measured at UK following inelastic neutron scattering. The new spectroscopic information was used to determine the $E0$ strengths. These are the first $2^+ \rightarrow 2^+$ $E0$ transition strengths measured in nuclei with spherical ground states and the $E0$ component is found to be unexpectedly large; in fact, these are amongst the largest $E0$ transition strengths in medium and heavy nuclei reported to date.
