Abstract: The NA62 experiment recorded a large sample of K+→μ+νμ decays in 2007. A peak search has been performed in the reconstructed missing mass spectrum. In the absence of a signal, limits in the range 2×10−6 to 10−5 have been set on the squared mixing matrix element |Uμ4|2 between muon and heavy neutrino states, for heavy neutrino masses in the range 300–375 MeV/ c2 . The result extends the range of masses for which upper limits have been set on the value of |Uμ4|2 in previous production search experiments.

Abstract: The NA62 experiment collected a large sample of charged kaon decays in 2007 with a highly efficient trigger for decays into electrons. A measurement of the $\pi^0$ electromagnetic transition form factor slope parameter from $1.11\times10^{6}$ fully reconstructed $K^\pm \to \pi^\pm \pi^0_D, \pi^0_D \to e^+ e^-\gamma$ events is reported. The measured value $a = (3.68 \pm 0.57)\times10^{-2}$ is in good agreement with theoretical expectations and previous measurements, and represents the most precise experimental determination of the slope in the time-like momentum transfer region., Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures; Revised version accepted for publication in Physics Letters B

Abstract: The NA48/2 experiment at CERN collected two data samples with minimum bias trigger conditions in 2003 and 2004. A measurement of the rate and dynamic properties of the rare decay K ± → π ± γ γ from these data sets based on 149 decay candidates with an estimated background of 15.5 ± 0.7 events is reported. The model-independent branching ratio in the kinematic range z = ( m γ γ / m K ) 2 > 0.2 is measured to be B MI ( z > 0.2 ) = ( 0.877 ± 0.089 ) × 10 − 6 , and the branching ratio in the full kinematic range assuming a particular Chiral Perturbation Theory description to be B ( K π γ γ ) = ( 0.910 ± 0.075 ) × 10 − 6 .

Abstract: A test of lepton flavour conservation in kaon rare decays by the NA48/2 experiment at CERN SPS is presented. The improved upper limit on the rate of the lepton number violating decay K ± → π ∓ μ ± μ ± is established with the data sample collected in 2003–2004. A precision test of lepton flavour universality in kaon rare decays by the successor NA62 experiment at CERN SPS is reported. The helicity suppressed ratio R K = Γ(K ± → e ± ν )/Γ(K ± → μ ± ν ) is measured with a 0.4% precision using the data sample collected in 2007–2008 and is consistent with the prediction of the Standard Model. The main goal of the NA62 experiment is to measure the branching ratio of the ultra-rare K + → π + ν ν decay with 10% accuracy. This will be achieved by collecting ∼ 1013 K + decays in the fiducial volume. The NA62 estimated sensitivities to rare and forbidden decays of K + and π 0 , including lepton flavour and number violating modes, and the NA62 potential to improve on several experimental limits are discussed.

Abstract: A precision test of lepton flavour universality has been performed by measuring the ratio R K of kaon leptonic decay rates K + → e + ν and K + → μ + ν in a sample of 59 813 reconstructed K + → e + ν candidates with ( 8.71 ± 0.24 ) % background contamination. The result R K = ( 2.487 ± 0.013 ) × 10 − 5 is in agreement with the Standard Model expectation.

Abstract: A sample of 3120 K ± → π ± μ + μ − decay candidates with ( 3.3 ± 0.7 ) % background contamination has been collected by the NA48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS, allowing a detailed study of the decay properties. The branching ratio was measured to be BR = ( 9.62 ± 0.25 ) × 10 − 8 . The form factor W ( z ) , where z = ( M μ μ / M K ) 2 , was parameterized according to several models. In particular, the slope of the linear form factor W ( z ) = W 0 ( 1 + δ z ) was measured to be δ = 3.11 ± 0.57 . Upper limits of 2.9 × 10 − 2 and 2.3 × 10 − 2 on possible charge asymmetry and forward–backward asymmetry were established at 90% CL. An upper limit BR ( K ± → π ∓ μ ± μ ± ) 1.1 × 10 − 9 was established at 90% CL for the rate of the lepton number violating decay.

Abstract: Using the full data set of the NA48/2 experiment, the decay K ± → π ± e + e − γ is observed for the first time, selecting 120 candidates with 7.3 ± 1.7 estimated background events. With K ± → π ± π D 0 as normalisation channel, the branching ratio is determined in a model-independent way to be Br ( K ± → π ± e + e − γ , m e e γ > 260 MeV / c 2 ) = ( 1.19 ± 0.12 stat ± 0.04 syst ) × 10 −8 . This measured value and the spectrum of the e + e − γ invariant mass allow a comparison with predictions of chiral perturbation theory.

Abstract: The distribution of the K ± → π ± π + π − decays in the Dalitz plot has been measured by the NA48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS with a sample of 4.71 × 10 8 fully reconstructed events. With the standard Particle Data Group parameterization the following values of the slope parameters were obtained: g = ( − 21.134 ± 0.017 ) % , h = ( 1.848 ± 0.040 ) % , k = ( − 0.463 ± 0.014 ) % . The quality and statistical accuracy of the data have allowed an improvement in precision by more than an order of magnitude, and are such as to warrant a more elaborate theoretical treatment, including pion–pion rescattering, which is in preparation.

Abstract: Measured ratios of decay rates for Ke3/K2\pi, K\mu3/K2\pi and K\mu3/Ke3 are presented. These measurements are based on K^+- decays collected in a dedicated run in 2003 by the NA48/2 experiment at CERN. The results obtained are Ke3/K2\pi = 0.2470 +/- 0.0009 (stat) +/- 0.0004 (syst) and K\mu3/K2\pi = 0.1637 +/- 0.0006 (stat) +/- 0.0003 (syst). Using the PDG average for the K^+- -> \pi^+-\pi^0 normalisation mode, both values are found to be larger than the current values given by the Particle Data Book and lead to a larger magnitude of the |V_{us}| CKM element than previously accepted. When combined with the latest Particle Data Book value of |V_{ud}|, the result is in agreement with unitarity of the CKM matrix. In addition, a new measured value of K\mu3/Ke3 = 0.663 +/- 0.003(stat) +/- 0.001(syst) is compared to the semi-empirical predictions based on the latest form factor measurements., Comment: 20 pages, 5 tables, 10 figures. Abstract: A sample of $1.69\times 10^7$ fully reconstructed $\pi^0\to\gamma e^+e^-$ decay candidates collected by the NA48/2 experiment at CERN in 2003--2004 is analysed to search for the dark photon ($A'$) production in the $\pi^0\to\gamma A'$ decay followed by the prompt $A'\to e^+e^-$ decay. No signal is observed, and an exclusion region in the plane of the dark photon mass $m_{A'}$ and mixing parameter $\varepsilon^2$ is established. The obtained upper limits on $\varepsilon^2$ are more stringent than the previous limits in the mass range $9~{\rm MeV}/c^2, Comment: Revised version accepted for publication in Physics Letter B

Abstract: A precision measurement of the ratio RK of the rates of kaon leptonic decays K+- --> e nu and K+- --> mu nu with the full data sample collected by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2007-2008 is reported. The result, obtained by analysing ~150000 reconstructed K+- --> e nu candidates with 11% background contamination, is RK = (2.488+-0.010)*10^{-5}, in agreement with the Standard Model expectation., Accepted for publication in Physics Letters B (18 January 2013). 18 pages, 6 figures

This experiment permits one to perform very precise measurements of the s-wave scattering lengths at isospin state of I = 0 and 2 and a pion energy of 200 MeV-1 GeV. Quark-antiquark condensate, effective Lagrangian theory, and some features of the QCD lattice approach can be tested with very high precision.

Abstract: We report the observation of the Ξ c ∗+ state decaying into Ξc0π+ with Ξ c 0 →Λ K 0 π + π − or ΛK−π+π+π−. We have observed 47±11 candidate events for the Ξ c ∗+ state and measured its mass to be 177.1±0.5±1.1 MeV/ c 2 above the Ξc0 mass. We have also measured the Ξc0 mass to be 2470.0±2.8±2.6 MeV/ c 2 .

Abstract: New measurements of the lifetime and mass of the Ξ c + are presented. The Ξ c + has been reconstructed through the two decay channels Ξ − π + π + and Σ + K − π + . The data were accumulated by the Fermilab high energy photoproduction experiment E687. The lifetime is measured to be 0.34 +0.07 −0.05 (stat.)±0.02 (syst.) ps while the mass is measured to be 2465.8±1.9 (stat.)±2.5 (syst.) MeV/c 2 .

Abstract: An amplitude analysis of the D+, Ds+ → π−π+π+ Dalitz plots is presented using data collected by the Fermilab high-energy photoproduction experiment E687. The data are fitted to a model consisting of a sum of relativistic Breit-Wigner amplitudes for the intermediate two-body resonant decay modes plus a flat non-resonant contribution. From the fit we derive decay fractions and relative phases. We also present measurements of Γ(D + →π − π + π + ) Γ(D + →K − π + π + ) and Γ(D s + →π − π + π + ) Γ(D s + →K − K + π + ) .

Abstract: The experiment with the prototype of liquid krypton electromagnetic calorimeter for the KEDR detector is described. The experiment was carried out at the VEPP-4M collider at the tagged photon beam. The tagged photons were obtained in the energy region 50–625 MeV using the ROKK-1M facility. The edges of the bremsstrahlung spectra were used for the energy resolution measurement in the high-energy region up to 4500 MeV. The energy resolution comparable with the resolution of the best crystal calorimeters and the excellent spatial resolution (∼1 mm) have been obtained. The results are in good agreement with the Monte-Carlo simulation.

Abstract: Charged hadronic five-body decays of D + and D s + mesons have been studied in the E687 photoproduction experiment at Fermilab. We report the first compelling evidence of the decay mode D + , D s + → π − π − β + π + π + and the measurements of the decays D + → K − π − π + π + π + , D s + → K − K + π − π + π + and D s + → φπ − π + π + . An analysis of the D + → K − π − π + π + π + resonance structure is also presented.

Abstract: We report on the results of a search for fourteen flavor changing neutral current, lepton number violating, or lepton family number violating decays of the charmed meson D + in the large charm sample recorded by the Fermilab photoproduction experiment E687. No evidence is seen for these rare and standard-model-forbidden decays, of the form D + → h ± l ∓ l + (with h = π , K and l = e , μ ); we determine 90% confidence level upper limits on their absolute branching fractions in the range (9–20) × 10 −5 .

Abstract: We report on the first statistically significant observation of the vector meson Cabibbo suppressed semileptonic decay D+ → ρ0μ+ν. We measure the branching ratio of the decay mode D+ → ρ0μ+ν (plus possible unobserved γ from D+ → η′μ+ν, η′ → γρ0) with respect to the decay mode D + → K ∗0 μ + ν to be BR (D + → ρ 0 μ + ν) BR (D + → K ∗0 μ + ν) = 0.079 ± 0.019 ( stat ) ± 0.013 ( syst ) . Data were collected by Fermilab photoproduction experiment E687.

We find 45.4 ± 13.3 events in the electron mode and 45.6 ± 11.8 in the muon mode. The relative branching ratio BR (D 0 →π − l + v) BR (D 0 →K − l + v) for the combined sample is measured to be 0.101 ± 0.020 (stat.) ± 0.003 (syst.) 14 .

Abstract: We report measurements of charm particle production asymmetries from the Fermilab photoproduction experiment E687. An asymmetry in the rate of production of charm versus anticharm particles is expected to arise primarily from fragmentation effects. We observe statistically significant asymmetries in the photoproduction of D+, D ∗+ and D0 mesons and find small (but statistically weak) asymmetries in the production of the Ds+ meson and the Λc+ baryon. Abstract: Fermilab high-energy photoproduction experiment E687 provides a high statistics sample of the decay mode D + → K ∗0 μ + ν (charge conjugates are implied). Our analysis yields a branching ratio of Γ (D + → K ∗0 μ + ν) Γ (D + → K − π + π + ) = 0.56±0.04±0.06 . The ratios of the form factors governing the decay are measured to be R ν = 1.74 ±0.27±0.28 and R 2 = 0.78±0.18±0.10, implying a polarization of Γ l Γ t = 1.20±0.13 ±0.13 for the electron decay. Finally, we report new limits on the decay modes D + → K − π + μ + ν (nonresonent) and D + → K ∗0 π 0 μ + ν .

Abstract: We report the results of a search for the doubly Cabibbo suppressed decays D+ → K+K−K+ and D+ → ΦK+, and the singly Cabibbo suppressed decays Ds+ → K+K−K+ and Ds+ → ΦK+. Our measurements are all consistent with zero branching ratio, and we set 90% confidence level upper limits on the relative D+ branching ratios: BR(ΦK + ) BR(Φπ + ) , BR(K + K − K + ) BR(Φπ + ) and BR(K + K − K + ) BR(K − π + π + ) , and the relative Ds+ branching ratios: BR(ΦK + ) BR(Φπ + ) and BR(K + K − K + ) BR(Φπ + ) . The data were accumulated by the Fermilab high energy photoproduction experiment E687.

Abstract: We present the first measurement of the lifetime of the Ω c 0 baryon. The data were collected in the Fermilab high energy photoproduction experiment E687. The measured lifetime is τ = 86−20+27(stat.) ± 28(syst.) fr. Thus the Ω c 0 has one of the shorter lifetimes among the weakly decaying singly charmed baryons.

Abstract: Amplitude analyses of the D+ and Ds+ → K+K−π+ Dalitz plots are presented using data collected by the Fermilab high energy photoproduction experiment E687. Our data are fit to a model consisting of a sum of Breit-Wigner amplitudes for the intermediate two-body resonant decay modes. We extract decay fractions and relative phases. These results are used to infer new branching ratios for D+ → K+K−π+ inclusive as well as the Φπ+ and K ∗ (892) 0 K + channels.

Abstract: The NA48/2 and NA62 experiments at CERN study rare kaon decays using the decay in ﬂight technique. In this paper two selected topics will be presented: new measurements performed by the two experiments of the K±→ π±γγ decay which represents a stringent test of the Chiral Perturbation Theory and the measurement of the Branching Ratio of the very rare decay K+→π+νν¯${K^ + } \to {\pi ^ + }\nu \bar \nu $ at 10% level, that will provide a test of the Standard Model and possible extensions beyond it.

Abstract: We have made a new measurement of the branching ratio Γ(D + → K 0 K + ) Γ(D + → K 0 π + ) and the first measurement of Γ(D + → K 0 K ∗+ ) Γ(D + → K 0 π + ) . The data were accumulated in the 1990–1991 fixed target running period of Fermilab high energy photoproduction experiment E687. We measure Γ(D + → K 0 K + ) Γ(D + → K 0 π + ) = 0.25 ± 0.04 ± 0.02 and Γ(D + → K 0 K ∗+ ) Γ(D + → K 0 π + ) = 1.1 ± 0.3 ± 0.4 .

Abstract: Analysis of three D → Kππ Dalitz plots is presented using data collected by the Fermilab high energy photoproduction experiment E687. Our data are fit to a model consisting of a sum of Breit-Wigner amplitudes for the intermediate two-body resonant decay modes and a constant term for the nonresonant contribution. We extract branching fractions and relative phases and compare them to the results obtained in other experiments. Although this model qualitatively reproduces many features of our data, statistically significant discrepancies are observed in some of our fits.

Abstract: The fermilab high-energy photoproduction experiment E687 provides a sample of approximately 90 events of the decay mode D+s→ φμ+ ν. The ratios of the form factors governing the decay are measured to be Rv=1.8±0.9±0.2 and R2= 1.1±0.8±0.1, implying a polarization of Г 1 /Г t = 1.0±0.5±0.1 for the electron decay, consistent with our measurement of the form factor for the decay D + → K ∗0 μ + ν .

Abstract: We report precise measurements of the D 0 and D + meson lifetimes by the E687 Collaboration at Fermilab. The measurements have been made using 16000 fully reconstructed decays of the D 0 into the K − π + and K − π + π − π + final states and 9000 decays of the D + into the K − π + π + final state. The lifetimes of the D 0 and D + mesons are measured to be 0.413±0.004±0.003 ps and 1.048±0.015±01011 ps respectively.

Abstract: We report a measurement of the relative branching ratio of two Cabibbo-suppressed decay modes: D 0 → π − π + and D 0 → K − K + . The data were accumulated in the 1990–1991 fixed target run of Fermilab high energy photoproduction experiment E687. The branching ratios of these modes relative to the Cabibbo-allowed decay D 0 → K − π + are also presented. The relative branching ratios are measured to be Γ ( D 0 → KK )/ Γ ( D 0 → ππ ) = 2.53 ± 0.46 ± 0.19, Γ ( D 0 → KK )/ Γ ( D 0 → Kπ ) = 0.109 ± 0.007 ± 0.009, and Γ ( D 0 → ππ )/ Γ ( D 0 → Kπ ) = 0.043 ± 0.007 ± 0.003.

Abstract: We report evidence for the Cabibbo-suppressed decay of the charm baryon Λ c + into the final state pK − K + . The analysis is performed on data collected by high energy photoproduction experiment E687 during the 1990–1991 Fermilab fixed target run. The branching ratio of the decay Λ c + → pK − K + relative to the non-suppressed Λ c + → pK − π + is measured to be BR( pK − K + / pK − π + ) = 0.096 ± 0.029 ± 0.010. The upper limit of the decay into po relative to the inclusive pK − K + decay is measured to be BR( po / pK − K +

Abstract: We report a measurement of the semimuonic decay D0→K−μ+ν from data taken during the 1987–1988 fixed target run at Fermilab by the E687 Collaboration. We obtain Γ(D0→K−μ+ν)/Γ(D0→K−π+)=0.82±0.13±0.13 and use this result to calculate Γ(D 0 →K ∗− μ + ν)/Γ(D 0 →K − μ + ν)=0.59±0.10±0.13 .

Abstract: Fermilab high-energy photoproduction experiment E687 measures a branching ratio of Γ ( D S + → φμ + ν ) / Γ ( D S + → φμ + ) = 0.58 ± 0.17 (stat) ± 0.07 (sys). This branching ratio is combined with theoretical inputs to obtain a new measurement of the D S + absolute branching ratio of Γ ( D S + → φμ + ) / Γ ( D S + → all) = 0.031 ± 0.009 (stat 0.005 (sys) ± 0.004 (theoretical).

Abstract: A precise measurement of the [Lambda][sub [ital c]][sup +] lifetime using approximately 1340 fully reconstructed [Lambda][sub [ital c]][sup +][r arrow][ital pK][sup [minus]][pi][sup +] and charge conjugate decays is presented. The data were accumulated by the Fermilab high energy photoproduction experiment E687. The lifetime of the [Lambda][sub [ital c]][sup +] is measured to be 0.215[plus minus]0.016[plus minus]0.008 ps.

Abstract: A calorimeter using 30 tons of liquid krypton for the KEDR detector is being constructed. The main effects which determine the energy and space resolution have been studied. An energy resolution of 1.7% at 1.2 GeV was obtained with the prototype. A space resolution of 0.4 mm for relativistic particles has been reached with the prototype.

Abstract: The magnetic spectrometer and charged particle tracking system used in Fermilab experiment 687 to study the photoproduction and decay of charm particles are described in detail. The photons are produced by a wideband electron beam which can operate at energies up to 600 GeV/ c . The spectrometer consists of a high resolution silicon microstrip detector, a large aperture dipole magnet, proportional chambers, a second large aperture dipole, and more proportional chambers. Three multi-cell threshold Cherenkov counters provide charged particle identification. The tracking system is capable of resolving the secondary decay vertices of charm and beauty mesons and baryons from the primary interaction vertex. It also determines the invariant mass of the multibody final states of particles containing heavy quarks with excellent resolution. The particle identification system allows one to identify kaons and protons present in these final states clearly. This collection of detectors produces very clean signals for charm particles and permits one to make many cross checks of the apparatus. The performance is illustrated for a variety of charm signals. Of particular interest is a description of the tracking through the silicon microstrip detector and its use in isolating downstream decay vertices. Two complementary approaches to the reconstruction of secondary decay vertices are presented and insight is gained by comparing their strengths and weaknesses.

Abstract: Analysis of the resonant and non-resonant branching fractions for the decays D 0 →K S 0 π + π − and D 0 →K S 0 K + K − is presented. For the D 0 →K S 0 π + π − decay, a fit to the observed Dalitz plot was performed to determine the complex amplitudes of the sub-component modes. For the D 0 →K S 0 K + K − decay, measurements of the branching ratios D 0 →K S 0 K + K − (inclusive), D 0 →K S 0 φ , and D 0 →K S 0 (K + K − ) non- φ relative to the D 0 →K S 0 π + π − mode are reported. The data were collected by the Fermilab high energy photoproduction experiment E687.

Abstract: We present measurements of the branching ratios for two Cabibbo suppressed decays of the D0 meson, D0 → π+π+π−π− and D0 → K−K+, and for the decay D + s → фπ + π + π − . The physics signals were extracted from a data sample consisting of 60 million triggers, collected by Fermilab Photoproduction Experiment E687 from December 1987 to February 1988. The relative branching ratios are measured to be: Γ(D0 → 4π)/Γ(D0 → K3π) = 0.108±0.024±0.008, Γ(D0 → KK)/Γ(D0 → Kπ) = 0.138±0.027 ±0.010 and Γ( D s → ф3π)/Γ( D s → фπ) = 0.58±0.20±0.10 .

Abstract: The pion radiative scattering (π-p → π-pγ) has been studied at 43 GeV in the interval 0.2 < |tp| < 0.4 (GeV/c)2 of the momentum transfer squared to the proton and in the range of photon energy 2 < ω < 40 GeV. Calculations based on Low theorem agree well with measured ω, tp and mπγ (final πγ-invariant mass) differential cross-sections. The results obtained extend the validity of Low approach to the radiative scattering at high energies.

Abstract: Effects determining the energy and spatial resolution of a calorimeter based on liquid krypton have been studied. With cathode strips of 10 mm a spatial resolution of 0.4 mm has been obtained in a cosmic rays test. The energy resolution of the calorimeter (0.4 ton of krypton) has been measured with positrons, achieving a rms of 5.7% at E = 130 MeV and 1.7% at E = 1200 MeV. The measurements are compared to Monte Carlo simulations.

Abstract: We report a measurement of the direct CP violation asymmetry parameter A g in charged kaon decays K ± → π ± π + π − by the NA48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS. The experiment has been designed not to be limited by systematics in the asymmetry measurement. Using 1.67 × 10 9 such decays collected during the 2003 run, the charge asymmetry in the Dalitz plot linear slope parameter g has been measured to be A g = ( 1.7 ± 2.9 ) × 10 −4 . The precision of the result is limited by the statistics used.
