Abstract

The KLOE experiment at the ϕ – factory DAΦNE in Frascati near Rome is the first to have employed Initial State Radiation (ISR) to precisely determine the e + e − → π + π − ( γ ) cross section below 1 GeV. Such a measurement is particularly important to test the Standard Model (SM) calculation for the ( g − 2 ) of the muon, where a long standing 3 σ discrepancy is observed. In 2005 and 2008 KLOE published two measurements of the π + π − cross section with the photon emitted at small angles, and an independent measurement of the π + π − cross section with the photon emitted at large angles using data at a collision energy of 1 GeV (i.e., 20 MeV below the ϕ -peak) was published in 2010. While the measurements were normalized to the DAΦNE luminosity using large angle Bhabha scattering, a new analysis has been performed which derives the pion form factor directly from measuring the bin-by-bin π + π − γ / μ + μ − γ ratio. We present the preliminary results of this new measurement, as well as the previously published ones, and the impact on the evaluation of the hadronic contribution to the muon anomaly.

Abstract

Neutral kaon pairs produced in phi decays in anti-symmetric entangled state can be exploited to search for violation of CPT symmetry and Lorentz invariance. We present an analysis of the CP-violating process phi->K_S K_L->pi+pi-pi+pi- based on 1.7 fb-1 of data collected by the KLOE experiment at the Frascati phi-factory DAFNE. The data are used to perform a measurement of the CPT-violating parameters Delta_amu for neutral kaons in the contest of the Standard Model Extension framework. The parameters measured in the reference frame of the fixed stars are: Delta_ao = (-6.0 +- 7.7_{stat} +- 3.1_{syst}) x 10^{-18} GeV Delta_ax = ( 0.9 +- 1.5_{stat} +- 0.6_{syst}) x 10^{-18} GeV Delta_ay = (-2.0 +- 1.5_{stat} +- 0.5_{syst}) x 10^{-18} GeV Delta_az = ( 3.1 +- 1.7_{stat} +- 0.5_{syst}) x 10^{-18} GeV These are presently the most precise measurements in the quark sector of the Standard Model Extension., 16 pages, 6 figures, added few typo corrections

Abstract

Neutral kaons from meson decays are produced in pairs, which offers the possibility to select pure kaon beams: the detection of a Ks (KL) tags the presence of a KL (Ks), the same holds for charged kaons. This allows to perform precise measurement of kaon properties. Additionally, these neutral kaon pairs are produced in a pure quantum state (JPC = 1−−), which allows to investigate CP and CPT symmetries via quantum interference effects, as well as the basic principles of quantum mechanics. Introduction to kaon interferometry and the results on the decoherence parameter and CPT test obtained by the KLOE experiment at the DAΦNE e+e− collider will be presented together with prospects for KLOE-2 project.

Abstract

We present a new limit on the production of a light dark-force mediator with the KLOE detector at DAPHNE. This boson, called U, has been searched for in the decay phi --> eta U, U --> e+ e-, analyzing the decay eta --> pi0 pi0 pi0 in a data sample of 1.7 fb-1. No structures are observed in the e+e- invariant mass distribution over the background. This search is combined with a previous result obtained from the decay eta --> pi+ pi- pi0, increasing the sensitivity. We set an upper limit at 90% C.L. on the ratio between the U boson coupling constant and the fine structure constant of alpha'/alpha < 1.7x10^-5 for 30, Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures, updated PLB version

Abstract

Neutral kaons produced in correlated pairs at a phi-factory offer unique possibilities to perform fundamental tests of CPT invariance, as well as of the basic principles of quantum mechanics. The analysis of the data collected by the KLOE experiment at DAFNE is still ongoing with the aim of improving previous results and limits on several parameters describing CPT violation and decoherence. Ancillary measurements like the regeneration cross section on the beam pipe materials are also in progress and will be very useful to reduce the systematic uncertainties. Prospects on improvements at the KLOE-2 experiment, aiming at an increase of the integrated luminosity of about a factor of ten with an upgraded detector, will be also discussed., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures

Abstract

The KLOE experiment has collected an integrated luminosity of about 2.5 fb−1 at the φ factory DAφNE. φ radiative decays have been used to investigate the properties of the light scalar mesons f0(980)/a0(980), whose structure is still controversial.A direct search of σ(600)→π0π0 decay has been performed with data taken at 1 GeV, where φ decays are suppressed.The whole KLOE data set includes also 100 million η’s produced through the radiative decay φ→ηγ and tagged by means of the monochromatic recoil photon. From this sample we have investigated η decays relevant to test ChPT predictions. We present published and preliminary results achieved from full statistics.

Abstract

A search for rare lepton decays of the eta meson was performed using the WASA detector at CELSIUS. Two candidates for double Dalitz decay eta->e+e-e+e- events are reported with a background of 1.3+/-0.2 events. This allows to set an upper limit to the branching ratio of 9.7E-5 (90% CL). The branching ratio for the decay eta->e+e-gamma is determined to (7.8+/-0.5 stat+/-0.8 syst)E-3. An upper limit (90% CL) for the branching ratio for the eta->e+e- decay is 2.7E-5 and a limit for the sum of the eta->mu+mu-mu+mu- and eta->pi+pi-mu+mu- decays is 3.6E-4., 9 pages, 10 Postscript figures, uses revtex4.sty, revised version after referee comments; conclusions unchanged

Abstract

The DAΦNE Φ-factory is an ideal place to search for forces beyond the Standard Model. By using the KLOE detector, limits on U-boson coupling e 2 of the order of 10−5 ÷ 10−7 and on the αD × e 2 product have been set through the study of the Φ Dalitz decay, Uγ events and the Higgsstrahlung process. An improvement of these limits is expected thanks to the KLOE detector and DAΦNE upgrades of KLOE-2.

Abstract

Preliminary results of the measurement of pd → ppnγγ reaction at around 1 GeV are presented. The reaction was measured at the CELSIUS storage ring using the WASA/PROMICE set-up. The quasi free mechanism was found to be dominant with Δ(1232) excitation in the protonpion system. The signal at the position of Roper resonance was observed in the proton-π[sup 0] invariant mass. A class of "non-spectator" events was observed with small proton-proton invariant mass. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Frozen microspheres of hydrogen (pellets) will be one of the target types for the future hadron physics experiment PANDA at FAIR (GSI, Darmstadt, Germany) []. Pellets with a diameter of 25- μm are generated about 3 meters above the interaction region, to which they travel with a velocity around 80 m/s inside a narrow pipe. The interaction region is defined by the overlap of the pellet stream and the accelerator beam and has a size of a few millimeters. One would like to know the interaction point more precisely, to have better possibilities to reconstruct particle tracks and events e.g. in charmonium decay studies. One would also like to suppress background events that do not originate in a pellet, but e.g. may occur in rest gas, that is present in the beam pipe. A solution is provided by the presented pellet tracking system together with a target operation mode that provides one and only one pellet in the interaction region most of the time. The goal is to track individual pellets in order to know their position with a resolution of a few tenths of a millimeter at the time of an interaction. The system must also be highly efficient and provide tracking information for essentially all pellets that pass the interaction region. Abstract

The production of η mesons at an excess energy of 72 MeV has been studied in the reaction pp → pp(η)γγ. It is shown that a simple model with Pp final states included reproduces observed differential distributions better than the same model restricted to Ss, Sd and Ds final states. The strong influence of the Pp states could be taken as an indication of ρ dominance within an one boson exchange model for the excitation of N*(1535). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The two-pion production in pp-collisions has been investigated in exclusive measurements from threshold up to Tp = 1.36 GeV. Total and differential cross sections have been obtained for the channels pnπ+π0, ppπ+π-, ppπ0π0 and also nnπ+π+. For intermediate incident energies Tp > 1 GeV, i.e. in the region, which is beyond the Roper excitation but at the onset of ΔΔ excitation the total ppπ0π0 cross section falls behind theoretical predictions by as much as an order of magnitude near 1.2 GeV, whereas the nnπ+π+ cross section is a factor of five larger than predicted. A model-unconstrained isospin decompostion of the cross section points to a significant contribution of an isospin 3/2 resonance other than the Δ(1232). Abstract

The ABC effect, a low-mass enhancement in the invariant ππ mass, is observed in double-pionic fusion reactions leading to a bound nuclear system in the final state. From previous measurements there have been indications that this phenomenon is resctricted to the σ channel of the ππ system. With exclusive measurements of the pp → dπ+π0 reaction at Tp = 1.1 GeV we demonstrate that, indeed, the ABC effect does not occur in the vector-isovector ππ channel (ρ channel) despite the fact that the ΔΔ excitation is oberved to be the dominant reaction process. We also show that this reaction is well described by a t-channel ΔΔ excitation with the subsequent decay into the vector-isovector ππ channel given by the ρ channel operator. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

We report on the activity of CERN and INFN-LNF groups on the development of large area GEM detectors. The two groups work together within the RD51 Collaboration, to aim at the development of Micro-pattern Gas detectors technologies. The vast request for large area foils by the GEM community has driven a change in the manufacturing procedure by the TS-DEM-PMT laboratory, needed to overcome the previous size limitation of 450 × 450 mm 2 . Now a single-mask technology is used allowing foils to be made as large as 450 × 2000 mm 2 . The limitation in the short size, due to the definite width of the raw material, can be overcome by splicing more foils together. A 10 × 10 cm 2 GEM detector with the new single-mask foil has been tested with X-rays and the results are shown. Possible future applications for large area GEM are the TOTEM experiment upgrade at CERN, and the KLOE-2 experiment at the Dafne Φ -factory in Frascati.

We present the new Inner Tracker detector for the upgrade of the KLOE apparatus at DAΦNE, the Frascati Φ-factory. The device is devoted to improve the vertex reconstruction performance for decays close to the Interaction Point. It is composed of 4 Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) detectors, realized as very light cylinders with an innovative technique that allows to minimize the material budget inside the active area.
